Definitions

  • the present invention relates to a surveillance systems that may be placed at remote sites and which record activities at the remote sites.
  • Surveillance systems in particular video monitoring security systems, are popularly utilized in both residential and commercial areas, at construction sites, and border areas and virtually at any location at which it would be beneficial to monitor activities.
  • Such systems provide security by deterring unlawful or otherwise improper activities, minimizing losses, maximizing worker productivity, identifying the causes of accidents and crimes and so forth. Such systems are becoming more and more popular.
  • a shortcoming associated with conventional surveillance systems that provide video images of the area being monitored is that power must be provided to the system.
  • the power supply must be continuous if continuous surveillance is desired. It is difficult to provide electrical power in many cases where the security systems are used at remote locations.
  • the present invention addresses these shortcomings.
  • the present invention provides a remote, self-powered surveillance system which may include multiple surveillance units each of which wirelessly transmits video images to a central.
  • the present invention relates in particular to a street light which comprise a pole and a light bulb is connected to a top of the pole.
  • a stand alone surveillance system comprising a street light, which comprises a pole and a light bulb connected to a top of the pole, wherein a solar power panel is connected to the pole and electrically connected to a chargeable battery, further comprising a digital video recorder (DVR) and at least one video camera connected to the top of the pole, the camera obtaining digital signals of images and providing said digital signals to said DVR that records said images; and a remote receiver that receives wirelessly transmitted signals of said images from said DVR or directly from the at least one camera, wherein the power supply of the light bulb, the DVR and the at least one video camera is provided by the chargabel battery connected with the solar power panel.
  • DVR digital video recorder
  • the surprising finding of the present invention is that it is possible to provide a stand alone surveillance system by the help of a street light, a camera, a battery and wireless transmission system for transferring the data from the camera to an external receiver.
  • the DVR comprised by the system does not mean that a conventional (digital) video recorder as such is comprised, even though this is the case according to one of the preferred embodiments.
  • a DVR may also mean according to the present disclosure that the information of the camera is just processed for the subsequent wireless data transission to an external receiver. Such a processing can not be done by the camera itself but needs a further device which is according to one embodiment the DVR.
  • a transmitter/receiver coupled to said DVR generates said wirelessly transmitted signals based on DVR signals sent from said DVR to said transmitter/receiver, and wherein said transmitter/receiver comprises one of a satellite transmitter, a cellular modem transmitter, GPRS transmitter, a CDMA transmitter, a GSM transmitter and/or a WLAN transmitter.
  • a transmitter comprising a GPRS and/or GSM transmitter allows a transmission of data without the need of establishing any further infrastructure.
  • the survaillance system according the the present disclosure can be placed anywhere, has its own power supply and transmits the signals via a already existing mobile network.
  • a GPRS transmitter and/or a GSM transmitter shall be representative for all types of mobile communication devices and standards that are availible now and in the future for mobile data transmission.
  • Other examples of such standards are LTE, UMTS, 5G, etc.
  • a detection control is comprised and the camera and the first and in particular a further light bulp are activated, if a movement is detected by the detection control, wherein in particular the detection control comprises an infrared sensor.
  • the camera is recording and transmitting the recorded data the whole time, while for example the light bulp of the street light is activated based on predetermined times.
  • a second light bulp is activated in this case to signal to a user that an alarm was detected by this specific surveillance system, in case several surveillance systems according to the present disclosure are used.
  • That further light bulp may be in a different color, in particular red, and may as well be activated to flash in regular invervals.
  • the DVR records a video for a predetermined time after a movement is detected, wherein said video is transmitted via the transmitter/receiver and the video is saved locally in addition.
  • the surveillance systems sends an alarm information to a remote device, in particular to a remote device in form of a mobile device or a monitoring center, causing the remote device to start an optical and/or acustical alarm signal and in particular automatically show a video stream of the at least one camera on a display of the remote device.
  • a remote device e.g. a remote device in form of a mobile device or a monitoring center.
  • user being far away from the the stand alone surveillance system may directly be notfied and informed about a potential alarm and are able to react to said alarm.
  • This remote alarm may be in addition to the local alarm alrady outlined.
  • a further light bulb and/or a speaker on the stand alone system is activated, wherein said further light bulb and/or speaker is signalling that an alarm was caused, wherein in particular the further light bulbs radiates red light, in particular in form of flashes.
  • Such a type of alarm on the one hand frightens persons that may have caused the alarm and may stop unwanted persones from entering a protected site.
  • a direct communication with persons standing next to the stand alone survailane system is possible and this may help to clarify situations or to provide assistance in emergency situations to said persons.
  • an alarm button for activating the alarm manually is arranged at the pole.
  • Such an alarm button is in particular of advantage to allow a person to inform a third party, in particular located at a monitoring center, about a potential relevant issue like an emergency.
  • a communication device capable of transmitting audio and/or video signals to a remote location for a communication with a user is comprised by the pole, wherein in particular said communication device is automatically activated if a movement is detected and/or the alarm is automatically or manually activated.
  • Said communication tool may as well be usefull to clear up a situation by enabling a direct communication with persons being next to the stand alone surveillance system.
  • the communication device is a hands-free device providing a bi-directional audi and/or video communication.
  • the detection control comprises a sensor to detect smoke, chemical components, gases, radiation and/or heat.
  • One potential relevant situation that shall be monitored by the stand alone surveillance system is to secure locations against an unwanted entering by persons. Another object of the present disclosure is that said system may as well be used to detect additional critical situations.
  • One situation that may be of relevance to be detected is a fire. In this case it would be of advantage that a smoke detection sensor is comprised by the system.
  • Another scenario is a use of a stand alone surveillance system according to the present discolsure in or around a nuclear power plant. In this case would be of advantage if a sensor is comprised detecting radiation.
  • Another embodiment of the present disclosure may comprise a sensor to detect unwanted chemical components in the air, like around industrial parks, so that an alarm is activated if the concentration of certain chemical substances is too high.
  • the stand alone surveillance system is therefore not only restricted to the detection of motions to prevent locations from unwanted persons, but could be used in a much more general way depending on the requirements at different locations.
  • the light bulb and/or the further light bulb of the stand alone surveillance systems is composed of Light Emitting Diodes (LED).
  • LED Light Emitting Diodes
  • Such a light bulb has in particular the advantage that the power consumption is quite low.
  • the further light bulp and the light bulp could be provided as one, depending on the selection of LEDs and the composition of the LED array.
  • At least one, two, three or more further camera(s) is/are comprised by the system, each camera arragend to cover a different and, in particular partial, view of the surrounding of the system.
  • the solar panel is arranged on a housing located at the top of the pole, wherein the solar panel is arranged on the upper side of said housing and the camera is located at the lower side of said housing.
  • solar panels may be of advantage, e.g. on the pole of the stand alone surveillance system.
  • an arragement of the solar panel at the top of the housing In most cases, this will be the sunniest place for the solar panel while the further systems, the camera, the sensors, etc. are not disturbed by the solar panel at all.
  • Said system shall surveillance events on the ground or below the housing on the top of the pole.
  • the further light bulb is located at an edge of the housing radiating light to the upside and the downside of the housing at the same time.
  • all electronic components of the system in particular the DVR, the at least one camera, the solar panel, the light bulb, the further light bulb, the communication device and/or the alarm button, are arranged within the pole or the upper housing the surveillance system, while no external power supply is connected to the surveillance system.
  • present disclosure provide the use of a stand alone survaillance system according to present disclosure for the surviallance of houses, construction sides, airports, company premises and/or train stations.
