Description

Domaine de l'inventionField of the invention

The invention relates to a dial for a timepiece comprising a support and a mother-of-pearl sheet, the mother-of-pearl sheet having a front face and a rear face facing said support and on which a pattern has been printed. The invention also relates to a method of manufacturing such a dial, as well as to a timepiece comprising such a dial.

Arrière-plan de l'inventionBackground of the invention

Such a dial is for example described in the patent CH 697 210 . In this document, the pattern is formed by phosphorescent, fluorescent or luminescent light elements in order to form an image visible in the dark but invisible under normal illumination conditions. To do this, the light elements can be applied to the rear face of the mother-of-pearl or to the substrate or be deposited in blind cavities hollowed out in the mother-of-pearl or in the substrate. The recommended thickness for the mother-of-pearl sheet is 0.4 mm. This thickness is necessary to make it possible to dig the blind cavities. In addition, the mother-of-pearl sheet must be of sufficient thickness so that the layer of phosphorescent pigments does not appear by transparency through the mother-of-pearl in daylight, under normal illumination condition. This thickness of mother-of-pearl gives the dial a significant thickness so that it is not possible to produce ultra-thin dials for the manufacture of ultra-thin watches.

Résumé de l'inventionSummary of the invention

The aim of the present invention is to overcome the drawbacks mentioned above by providing a mother-of-pearl dial and its manufacturing process making it possible to produce an ultra-thin dial and a timepiece, in particular an ultra-thin watch, comprising such a dial, without harming the characteristic appearance of mother-of-pearl.

To this end, the invention relates to a dial for a timepiece comprising a support and a mother-of-pearl sheet, the mother-of-pearl sheet having a front face and a rear face facing said support and on which a pattern has been printed. .

According to the invention, the mother-of-pearl sheet has a thickness of between 50 μm and 300 μm so that the pattern printed on the rear face of the mother-of-pearl sheet appears by transparency through the mother-of-pearl under normal illumination conditions.

Thus, a mother-of-pearl dial decorated with an ultra-thin pattern is obtained while preserving the iridescent character of the mother-of-pearl and the smooth appearance of the mother-of-pearl on the front face, visible to a user.

Other features and advantages will emerge clearly from the description which is given below, by way of indication and in no way limiting, with reference to the appended drawings, in which:
  • the figure 1 is a top view of a dial according to the invention; and
  • the figure 2 is a sectional view along the AA axis of the figure 1 .

Description détaillée des modes de réalisation préférésDetailed description of the preferred embodiments

With reference to the figure 1 , the dial 1 for a timepiece comprises a support 2 and a mother-of-pearl sheet 3.

Preferably, the support 2 is metallic. It is for example made in a sheet of brass.

The mother-of-pearl sheet has a front face 3a, corresponding to the side visible to the user, and a rear face 3b, positioned facing the support 2 and on which a pattern 4 has been printed.

A metal ring 6, preferably made of brass, is provided on the peripheral edge of the mother-of-pearl sheet 3 to define the contours of the dial 1. This metal ring 6 may for example have a thickness of the order of 700 μm to 900 μm. , for example 800 µm.

In accordance with the present invention, the mother-of-pearl sheet has a thickness of between 50 μm and 300 μm so that the pattern printed on the rear face of the mother-of-pearl appears by transparency through the mother-of-pearl under normal illumination conditions, in particular in grazing light. Preferably, the mother-of-pearl sheet has a thickness of between 50 μm and 250 μm, preferably between 100 μm and 200 μm, preferably between 120 μm and 180 μm, more preferably between 130 μm and 170 μm, and even more preferably between 140 µm and 160 µm. For example, the thickness of the mother-of-pearl sheet is approximately 150 µm. Such a thickness of the mother-of-pearl sheet is a compromise found by the applicant making it possible, on the one hand, to maintain the transparency necessary for the pattern printed on the rear face of the mother-of-pearl to appear by transparency through the mother-of-pearl under normal conditions of use. illumination, and on the other hand to avoid breaking the mother-of-pearl sheet, in particular when printing the pattern, due to too great a fragility.

D'une manière avantageuse, le support métallique 2 peut présenter par exemple une épaisseur de l'ordre de 200 µm à 250 µm, de sorte que le cadran présente par exemple une épaisseur totale ultra mince de 350 µm à 400 µm.Advantageously, the metal support 2 may for example have a thickness of the order of 200 μm to 250 μm, so that the dial has for example an ultra-thin total thickness of 350 μm to 400 μm.

The printed pattern 4 can be any type of pattern. Preferably, the printed pattern consists of a set of lines of different widths, making it possible to create the appearance of a structure. For example, the pattern can represent the veins and structure of a leaf.

Preferably, the mother-of-pearl used is natural mother-of-pearl.

Advantageously, the mother-of-pearl can be colored.

The method of manufacturing such a dial comprises the steps of:
  1. a) provide a support 2, preferably metallic, for example made of brass
  2. b) provide a mother-of-pearl sheet 3 having a thickness between 50 μm and 300 μm, preferably between 50 μm and 250 μm, preferably between 100 μm and 200 μm, preferably between 120 μm and 180 μm, more preferably between 130 µm and 170 µm, and even more preferably between 140 µm and 160 µm
  3. c) print a pattern 4 on the back face 3b of the mother-of-pearl sheet
  4. d) assemble the printed mother-of-pearl sheet 3 obtained in step c) on the support 2, and the thickness according to step b) being chosen so that the pattern can appear by transparency through the mother-of-pearl under normal conditions of illumination.

The method also comprises a step for assembling the metal ring 6 on the peripheral edge of the mother-of-pearl sheet 3.

In steps a) and b), the support 2, the mother-of-pearl sheet 3 and the ring 6 are cut and prepared to present the desired shape and dimensions of the dial, as well as the thicknesses in accordance with the invention. The orifices 8 for the passage of the axis of the switch are also made in the support 2 and the mother-of-pearl sheet 3.

In accordance with step c), a pattern 4 is printed on the rear face 3b of the mother-of-pearl sheet by means of an ink deposited according to a method chosen from the group comprising screen printing, photolithography, and jet printing. 'ink. Screen printing is particularly preferred.

Advantageously, the thickness of the deposited ink layer is between 10 μm and 40 μm, preferably between 20 μm and 30 μm. The ink used is standard.

Preferably, the printing process is implemented to print a pattern consisting of a set of lines of different widths in order to create the appearance of a structure.

In addition, the method of the invention can comprise a step e) of tinting the mother-of-pearl before step c) of printing the pattern.

Des index ou autres éléments décoratifs peuvent être déposés sur le verre saphir ou sur la feuille de nacre 3.Once the printed mother-of-pearl sheet 3 obtained in step c) and the ring 6 assembled on the support 2 to form the dial 1, the front face 3a of the mother-of-pearl sheet can be polished to obtain a front face. smooth. The mother-of-pearl sheet 3 is then protected by a sapphire crystal (not shown). Indexes or other decorative elements can be placed on the sapphire crystal or on the mother-of-pearl sheet 3.

The present invention also relates to a timepiece comprising a dial as described above. The invention makes it possible to obtain an ultra thin frame, made of mother-of-pearl decorated with a pattern, while preserving the iridescent character of the mother-of-pearl and the smooth appearance of the mother-of-pearl on the front face. By transparency through the mother-of-pearl, the pattern appears more discreet, thinner and more elegant. The invention also makes it possible to obtain a timepiece, and in particular a watch, ultra thin, due to the use of an ultra thin dial.
