Definitions
- the present invention concerns a paper product dispenser.
- the present invention concerns a dispenser of paper products such as napkins, tissues and the like.
- dispensers of paper products such as napkins, tissues and the like which are designed to be placed, for example, on tables, furniture or other surfaces to allow such products to be freely picked up by users.
- a typical usage example of these dispensers is in bars, restaurants or other similar businesses where products are picked up by people consuming food or drinks.
- a dispenser of the above-mentioned type comprises a box-shaped container, which houses a pack of napkins or tissues internally, to be picked up one after the other in succession.
- the napkins or tissues are arranged interfolded, i.e. each is folded and positioned in relation to the other such that when a product is picked up, it drags the end flap of the product immediately following it: the latter can thus be easily picked up by the user.
- the container of the dispenser usually has at least one opening through which the user can pick up one product at a time; when the products are arranged interfolded, the flap of the first product available for picking up partially protrudes from said opening.
- the opening can be provided at the front or the top of the dispenser.
- the container can be opened to insert the paper products once they have been finished; the opening mechanism of the container and its positioning can also be different (e.g. top, front or rear opening).
- the dispenser In certain usage situations - for example the counter of a bar - the dispenser is placed, on a supporting surface, in a specific position that makes it possible to conveniently pick up the products, for example with the opening facing users. However, there are other usage situations in which a single pick-up position is not equally convenient for all users.
- the dispenser For example, if the dispenser is placed at the centre of a table, the opening for picking up the products will always be facing a particular user; in order to pick up the product, the other users must continually turn the dispenser or ask the user located in front of the opening to pass them the product: this action is to the detriment of hygiene, as the product passes through multiple hands.

Description
- The present invention concerns a paper product dispenser.
- More specifically, the present invention concerns a dispenser of paper products such as napkins, tissues and the like.
- There are various known types of dispensers of paper products such as napkins, tissues and the like which are designed to be placed, for example, on tables, furniture or other surfaces to allow such products to be freely picked up by users. A typical usage example of these dispensers is in bars, restaurants or other similar businesses where products are picked up by people consuming food or drinks. Normally a dispenser of the above-mentioned type comprises a box-shaped container, which houses a pack of napkins or tissues internally, to be picked up one after the other in succession.
- Typically, but not exclusively, the napkins or tissues are arranged interfolded, i.e. each is folded and positioned in relation to the other such that when a product is picked up, it drags the end flap of the product immediately following it: the latter can thus be easily picked up by the user.
- The container of the dispenser usually has at least one opening through which the user can pick up one product at a time; when the products are arranged interfolded, the flap of the first product available for picking up partially protrudes from said opening.
- With reference to the position of use, the opening can be provided at the front or the top of the dispenser.
- The container can be opened to insert the paper products once they have been finished; the opening mechanism of the container and its positioning can also be different (e.g. top, front or rear opening).
- In certain usage situations - for example the counter of a bar - the dispenser is placed, on a supporting surface, in a specific position that makes it possible to conveniently pick up the products, for example with the opening facing users. However, there are other usage situations in which a single pick-up position is not equally convenient for all users.
- For example, if the dispenser is placed at the centre of a table, the opening for picking up the products will always be facing a particular user; in order to pick up the product, the other users must continually turn the dispenser or ask the user located in front of the opening to pass them the product: this action is to the detriment of hygiene, as the product passes through multiple hands.
-

dispenser 1 comprises at least abase 5. - The
base 5 is designed to be in contact with any supporting surface; this supporting surface can be, for example, the top of a table, a piece of furniture, a bar counter, a shelf or other, without limitations. - According to the invention, the
dispenser 1 comprises swivelling coupling means 6, interposed between thecontainer 2 and thebase 5. - This solution allows the
container 2 to be freely rotated with respect to thebase 5, making it possible to turn theopening 4 in the desired direction, for example toward a particular user who intends to pick up a product. - In more detail, the
container 2 comprises alower portion 7 and anupper portion 8, which enclose saidinner compartment 3. - The swivelling coupling means 6 are interposed between the
lower portion 7 of thecontainer 2 and thebase 5. - In the embodiment shown in the figures, the
lower portion 7 and theupper portion 8 of thecontainer 2 are separable from one another, so as to allow access to theinner compartment 3. - In other words, the
upper portion 8 of thecontainer 2 constitutes, in practice, its opening and closing lid. - The
lower portion 7 comprises afront element 9 that is affected by theopening 4 for picking up the products. - The
upper portion 8 is articulated to thelower portion 7; theupper portion 8 can therefore be rotated from a closed position to an open position, in which it is possible to access theinner compartment 3. - The
upper portion 8 is articulated, in particular, to thefront element 9 of thelower portion 7; in more detail, thefront element 9 is provided with twoopposite side holes 10, in whichrespective pins 11 provided in theupper portion 8 can engage. - In other embodiments of the invention, it is clear that the
side holes 10 could also be provided in theupper portion 8, while thepins 11 could be provided in thelower portion 7. - The
opening 4 for picking up the products (see for examplefigures 1 and 2 ) has an elongated shape, rounded at the ends; with reference to its longitudinal axis, theopening 4 is asymmetrical, in that it comprises a substantially archedupper outline 12 and alower outline 13, which define arecess 14 that facilitates the insertion of the fingers of a user's hand. - The
upper portion 8 of the container 2 (see for examplefigures 1 and7 ) is slightly divergent, in the sense that it widens toward the area of theopening 4; this makes it possible to create afront element 9 of ample size and consequently anopening 4 which is larger and easily accessible. - The
dispenser 1 comprises compacting means for the products, indicated withreference number 15. - The compacting means 15 are housed in the
inner compartment 3 of thecontainer 2. - In more detail, the compacting means 15 make it possible to maintain the products consistently and correctly in contact with the
front element 9 of thelower portion 7, so that they can be easily picked up through theopening 4, even when they have been almost entirely consumed. - The compacting means 15 comprise a pair of
guides 16, and aplate 17 slidably associated withsaid guides 16. - The
guides 16 are connected to thelower portion 7 of thecontainer 2; in more detail, the bottom of thelower portion 7 is provided withopposite pockets 18 in whichrespective appendices 19, associated withsaid guides 16, are removably engaged. - The coupling between the
appendices 19 and thepockets 18 can be, for example, through interlocking or other suitable means of connection. - The
plate 17 comprises twoside slides 20, slidably coupled to the respectiveupper edges 21 of theguides 16. - The
plate 17 is associated to elastic means which exert a thrusting action on thesame plate 17 in the direction of theopening 4 of thecontainer 2, so that the packed paper products housed in theinner compartment 3 are always induced to abut against thefront element 9, even when they have been almost entirely consumed. The elastic means can be of any type which is suitable to implement the specific function described. - The
container 2 comprises closing means 22, which make it possible to selectively access theinner compartment 3. - The closing means 22 comprise at least one elastically
flexible tab 23, integral with the lower portion 7 (at the rear area, in use). - The
tab 23 comprises a respective raisedend portion 24; said raisedend portion 24 has a circular shape, for example. - The closing means 22 also comprise a
hole 25 created in the upper portion 8 (at the rear area, in use). - In a closed configuration of the
container 2, the raisedend portion 24 of thetab 23 is engaged in thehole 25. - To open the
container 2 and access theinner compartment 3, slight pressure must be exerted on the raisedend portion 24 so that it disengages from thehole 25, thus releasing theupper portion 8 fromlower portion 7. - The
base 5 of thedispenser 1 is substantially shaped like a cross; this solution allowsdispenser 1 to obtain optimum stability on a support surface, while limiting the weight of the object and the use of the materials. - Supporting
feet 26 are provided at the four corners of the cross (figure 4 ). - The
feet 26 can comprise - or be covered by - a material that creates a high friction coefficient on the supporting surface for thedispenser 1; for example, this material can be rubber or the like. - This makes it possible to keep the
base 5 stably in contact with the supporting surface even while thecontainer 2 is rotated with respect to the same. - The
base 5 can however have any shape according to the specific application needs. According to the invention, the swivelling coupling means 6 comprise afemale element 27 and amale element 28, with the latter rotatably engaged inside thefemale element 27. - The
female element 27 and themale element 28 are respectively associated with thelower portion 7 of thecontainer 2 and thebase 5. - In the embodiment shown in the annexed figures, which is of particular practical interest, the
female element 27 is associated with thelower portion 7 of thecontainer 2, while themale element 28 is associated with thebase 5. - The
female element 27 comprises (or is constituted by) acircular seat 27a formed in thelower portion 7 of the container 2 (in more detail, formed in the bottom of the lower portion 7). - The
male element 28 comprises (or is constituted by) anannular protrusion 28a, integral with the upper surface of thebase 5 in use, and suitable to engage within thecircular seat 27a. - According to an embodiment, the
annular protrusion 28a comprises a plurality of constrainingportions 29 of theannular protrusion 28a itself inside thecircular seat 27a. - In more detail, the constraining
portions 29 prevent theannular protrusion 28a from accidentally withdrawing from thecircular seat 27a. - In the embodiment shown in the figures, the
annular protrusion 28a comprises four constrainingportions 29, arranged at 90° with respect to one another. - Each of the constraining
portions 29 comprises a respective section of saidannular protrusion 28a, physically separated or isolated by means of discontinuous sections (e.g. cuts). - This makes it possible to render each constraining
portion 29 elastically flexible; for this purpose a respective through slot or cut 30 is provided in the thickness of thebase 5 and near each constrainingportion 29, which allows the free flexion of the constrainingportion 29 itself. - Each constraining
portion 29 has its respectiveterminal end 31 bent toward the outside of theannular protrusion 28a: in doing so, a sort of tooth is created which, when theannular protrusion 28a is engaged inside thecircular seat 27a, abuts against the peripheral edge of the same and prevents, precisely, any accidental withdrawal of theannular protrusion 28a. - In order to disengage the
container 2 from thebase 5, for example for cleaning, maintenance and similar purposes, it is sufficient to press the constrainingportions 29 toward the centre of theannular protrusion 28a, so as to detach the constrainingportions 29 themselves from the peripheral edge of thecircular seat 27a. - The coupling between the
annular protrusion 28a and thecircular seat 27a makes it possible to freely rotate thecontainer 2 with respect to thebase 5, so as to orient theopening 4 for picking up the products at will. - The rotation of the
container 2 with respect to thebase 5 is particularly safe and stable, given the large diameter of theannular protrusion 28a and thecircular seat 27a. - According to an embodiment, the
dispenser 1 comprises selective locking means 32 of thecontainer 2 with respect to thebase 5. - In more detail, the selective locking means 32 make it possible - at the user's discretion - to constrain the
container 2 with respect to thebase 5, so as to prevent its rotation, or to release thecontainer 2 from thebase 5 so that the two components are freely rotatable with respect to one another. - The selective locking means 32 comprise a
first element 33 that selectively couples with asecond element 34, integral with thebase 5. - According to an embodiment, a
housing 40 is provided in thebase 5 in which the samefirst element 33 is inserted when not used, so that it can be preserved. - To be able to be used, the
first element 33 must be extracted from thehousing 40. In the embodiment illustrated in the figures, which is of particular practical interest, thefirst element 33 comprises afirst portion 35 for connection to thecontainer 2, and asecond portion 36 for connection to thesecond element 34. - The
first element 33 is substantially shaped like a mushroom, where thefirst portion 35 constitutes the head, and thesecond portion 36 the stem. - The bottom of the
lower portion 7 of thecontainer 2 is provided with a throughhole 37 with two diameters: one slightly larger than the diameter of thefirst portion 35, and the other slightly larger than the diameter of thesecond portion 36. - In this way, the
first element 33 can be engaged inside the throughhole 37 so that thesecond portion 36 of the same protrudes downward in relation to thelower portion 7 of thecontainer 2. - Correspondingly, the
second element 34 comprises ahole 38 formed in thebase 5, at the centre of which asmall rod 39 of a tubular shape facing downwards is provided, exiting from the lower surface of thebase 5; saidrod 39 is suitable to selectively receive thesecond portion 36 of thefirst element 33. - Therefore - as shown in
figure 6 - when thefirst element 33 is engaged inside the throughhole 37, the engagement of thesecond portion 36 inside the hole of therod 39 prevents the container from rotating with respect to thebase 5. - When the
first member 33 is instead disengaged from the throughhole 37, thecontainer 2 is freely rotatable with respect to thebase 5. - It has thus been seen how the invention achieves the intended purposes.
- The
dispenser 1 according to the invention constitutes a practical and economical solution to allow easier consumption of paper products by multiple users located in different positions in relation to the dispenser itself. - The use of the
dispenser 1 according to the invention is very simple and easy, as well as safe from the viewpoint of the necessary hygiene requirements. - Thanks to the presence of the selective locking means 32, the
dispenser 1 according to the invention can also be transformed into a traditional dispenser, i.e. not rotatable with respect to the base. - This invention has been described according to preferred embodiments, but equivalent variants are still possible without departing from the scope of the appended claims.
