Definitions
- This invention is related to air intercoolers used in diesel vehicles.
- Said invention is related to an air intercooler with an air spoiler element cooling the intake air charge into an engine, and homogeneously distributing the flow of air with high pressure and temperature in a collector.
- an air intercooler In diesel engines, the temperature of air directed to the intake manifold increases due to both a turbo interlocked with an exhaust system and heating of gases under pressure. A system letting air into an engine after cooling this heated air with decreased density and reduced performance gain is called an air intercooler.
- Working principle of an air intercooler is actually a type of radiator. The difference is that, water in a radiator and air in an air intercooler is cooled.
- Air cooler In diesel vehicles, directing charged air by means of turbo provides air cooling. Desired combustion rates are achieved due to higher amounts of oxygen present in cold air. Air cooler is of great importance both in diesel automobiles and high load capacity diesel vehicles. In order to achieve the desired traction, an air intercooler needs to function for a long time without failing.
- An air intercooler consists of side panels, a tray, a turbulator, heat transfer surfaces, and tubes. A turbulator in positioned in the tube.
- Air to be cooled passes through a tube, while charge air from outside passes through fins located in tubes. Due to not directing charge air in an inlet collector within the collector, deformations occur at the conjunction of the tray and the tube, where strength is the weakest. Power dissipation occurs because of air leakages occurring in the air intercooler and the air intercooler needs to be replaced. This disadvantage should be eliminated and an air intercooler should be durable.
- Objects of the Invention Object of the invention is that it has different technical features innovating in this field other than present air intercoolers.
- Another object of the invention is to provide a homogeneous distribution of air in a collector and thereby a durable embodiment of an air intercooler.
- Still another object of the invention is to reduce maintenance costs of an air intercooler.
- an air spoiler eliminating the disadvantages of the present embodiments is developed by positioning it within the inlet collector in the air intercooler.
- An air spoiler By means of an air spoiler, hot air is distributed homogeneously into the collector without accumulating in initial inlet tubes. Thus, deformations caused by charge air on the far ends of a tube due to high temperature and pressure is prevented.
- Air intercooler is ensured to be durable. Maintenance costs are reduced.
- a preferred embodiment of the invention comprises at least one air spoiler positioned in a collector wherein the hot air to be charged enters.
- an air spoiler is coupled into an inlet tube.
- Another preferred embodiment of the invention comprises at least one air spoiler element positioned at the intake of a baffle air tube.
- an air intercooler with a hot air inlet, and a charge air outlet, charging the air directed to the engine in vehicle's engines, comprising heat transfer surfaces and tubes configured between the said hot air inlet and charge air outlet, characterized in that;

- Figure 2 Two dimensional cross sectional front view of an air intercooler subject to the invention.
- Figure 2.1 Two dimensional detailed close-up cross sectional front view of an air intercooler.
- Figure 3 General perspective view showing tubes and heat transfer surfaces of an air intercooler.
- Figure 4 Assembly perspective view of an air spoiler element positioned in an air corridor.
- Figure 5 Assembly perspective view of an air spoiler element positioned in an air corridor.
- An air intercooler (10) subject to the invention comprises a hot air inlet (1 ), charge air outlet (2), heat transfer surfaces (6) and tubes (7) configured between the said hot air inlet (1 ) and cooled air outlet (2), side panels (5), tray (4), and turbulator (8).
- it comprises an air spoiler element (3) formed in the said hot air inlet corridor (9), ensuring the distribution of hot air homogeneously.
- Said air spoiler (3) comprises an angled face (3.1 ) and a vertical extension (3.2) positioned against the inner wall (9.3) of an air inlet corridor (9).
- said air spoiler (3) comprises a vertical extension (3.2) extending towards a vertical corridor (9.2), an extension outreaching a y1 axis of an upper tube (7.1 ) while not reaching an y2 axis of a lower tube (7).
- said air vent (9.4) formed at an air inlet (7.2) of an upper tube (7.1 ) by means of a vertical extension (3.2) of an air spoiler element (3).
- Tubes (7) are positioned within a tray (4) along with heat transfer surfaces (6) called fins. There is a nonhomogeneous distribution of air in a hot air inlet (1 ). Because of nonhomogeneous distribution, due to high temperature and pressure, deformations occur in tubes (7) at the far end of a tube where a tray (4) and a tube (7) couple. Thereupon, leakages occur in an air intercooler (10). Engine power is impaired due to insufficient charging of air flowing into an engine. In order to eliminate this problem, an air spoiler element (3) is integrated into to the system.
- FIG 5 a demounted illustration of an air spoiler element (3) as a representational application of the invention is shown.
- a hot air inlet (1 ) and an air spoiler element (3) are present.
- Air spoiler element (3) is to lead air flow into a hot air inlet (1 ) especially at regions close to the first tubes (7). These regions are regions contacting high temperature and pressure and exposed to high tension. Thereby, strength is increased.
- FIG 4 a perspective illustration of an air spoiler element (3) as a representational application of the invention is shown.
- An air spoiler element (3) is coupled in to a hot air inlet (1 ).
- Air spoiler element (3) provides an even distribution of charge air into a tube (7) by compensating instantaneous tensions within a hot air inlet (1 ) and thereby prevents deformations that may occur due to a nonhomogeneous flow.
- FIG 1 a detailed illustration of an air intercooler as a representational application of the invention is shown.
- tubes (7) are compiled on a tray (4) and heat transfer surfaces (6) are positioned between tubes (7).
- Layout of an air spoiler element (3) coupled into a hot air inlet (1 ) is shown. Lack of strength developing a hot air inlet (1 ) and a tube (7) is eliminated.
- FIG 2 a cross-sectional illustration of an air intercooler as a representational application of the invention is shown. Tubes (7) compiled between two trays (4) and heat transfer surfaces (6) positioned between said tubes (7) are present. At the initial and final portions of heat transfer surfaces (6), side panels (5) are positioned in two pieces.
- an air spoiler element (3) is positioned within a hot air inlet (1 ). In addition, it comprises a vertical extension (3.2) extended up to a corridor width (N) in x-axis in the horizontal corridor (9.1 ) of the said air inlet corridor (9) and having an extension varying according to product capacity on x2-axis.
- an angled face (3.1 ) of an air spoiler element (3) comprises acute angled, agonic, planiform and even radial surfaces in different products and depending on the area of use.
