Description

The invention relates in particular to a U-shaped circulation heat exchanger, in particular a charge air cooler.

In the field of motor vehicles, the charge air intended for the engine is cooled by a heat exchanger commonly called a charge air cooler (RAS). Some of these coolers, hereinafter called air RAS, are cooled by air.

Le flux d'air de suralimentation circule donc selon un circuit en forme de U.Depending on the architecture of the vehicle and the space available under the hood to integrate the air RAS, the charge air inlet and outlet of the exchanger can be placed on the same side of the exchanger. The charge air flow therefore circulates in a U-shaped circuit.

Three architectures of U-shaped fluid circulation exchangers are known from the prior art.

According to a first known architecture, the heat exchanger comprises a row of tubes, a first part of the tubes of the row of tubes delimiting a first fluid circulation channel, a second part of the tubes of the row of tubes delimiting a second channel fluid circulation. The heat exchanger comprises a collector plate pierced with openings for receiving the tubes, a cover for closing the collector plate and thus forming a collector box, as well as a plane seal disposed on the collector plate to ensure sealing with the lid. The collector box is then divided by a partition wall to delimit two chambers which communicate respectively with the first channel and the second channel, the circulation of the fluid in the channels taking place against the current. Such an exchanger of the prior art is subjected to thermal cycling which creates failures such as cracks resulting in fluid leaks, particularly near the partition wall of the collector box. Indeed, on either side of the partition wall of the collector box, a tube of the first fluid circulation channel is crossed by a hot fluid and a tube of the second fluid circulation channel is crossed by a cold fluid, which generates differences in thermal expansion of materials and causes cracks.

According to a second known architecture, the heat exchanger comprises two rows of tubes, a first row delimiting a first fluid circulation channel, a second row delimiting a second fluid circulation channel, a collector plate pierced with reception openings tubes, a cover for closing the collector plate and thus forming a collector box, as well as a plane seal placed on the collector plate to ensure sealing with the cover. The collector box is then divided by a partition to delimit two chambers which communicate respectively with the first channel and the second channel of each tube, the circulation of the fluid in the tube channels taking place against the current. Such an exchanger has the disadvantage of having two rows of tubes, which complicates its manufacture, increases its cost and, for equivalent dimensions, reduces the exchange surface of the exchanger and therefore its performance.

Le document EP 2 317 271 A1 présente un échangeur de chaleur selon le préambule de la revendication 1.According to a third architecture known and described in the document FR2864610 B1 , the heat exchanger comprises a row of tubes, having two circulation channels delimited by a partition wall, each tube having a cutout at the level of the partition wall, a collector box divided into two chambers by a partition wall and a seal. The seal is inserted into the tube cutout and is in contact with the partition wall of the collector box to guarantee sealing between the two chambers. Such an exchanger has the disadvantage of comprising non-standard tubes since they include a specific cut, which complicates its manufacture and increases its cost. In order to resolve these disadvantages, the invention proposes an exchanger with a so-called U-shaped methodical circulation architecture. within the same row of tubes with the advantage of comprising a bundle of standard single-row tubes, and which meets the specifications of the most demanding customers in terms of resistance to thermal cycling. The document EP 2 317 271 A1 presents a heat exchanger according to the preamble of claim 1.

The following examples concern a supercharger type heat exchanger. However, this invention applies to any type of exchanger comprising a bundle of tubes, for example, a radiator, an evaporator, a recirculation air cooler.

In other words, the exchanger is designed so that the end openings of the tubes are coplanar with the bottom of the plate. However, the manufacturing tolerances of the tubes and the collector plate as well as the assembly tolerances can, for example, cause the tubes to sink to a height of 0.7 millimeters relative to the bottom of the plate or exceed 0.8 millimeters. relative to the bottom of the plate. The penetration and protrusion are distances which are measured locally between the plane containing the end mouth of a tube and the bottom of the plate which is adjacent to it.

The following achievements are examples. Although the description refers to one or more embodiments, this does not necessarily mean that each element mentioned in the context of an embodiment relates only to this same embodiment, or only to characteristics of this embodiment. apply only to this embodiment.

There figure 1 represents a heat exchanger 1 comprising a bundle of a row of tubes 2 for circulating fluid, in particular charge air. The tubes 2 are stacked in a stacking direction d. The tubes 2 open into two collector boxes 26 and 27 and are held by two collector plates 3 and 9 respectively secured to the collector boxes 26 and 27.

There figure 2 illustrates heat exchanger 1 without collector boxes 26 and 27.

A seal 10 comprising a sealing strap 13 extending in the stacking direction d on one end of the bundle of tubes 2, in particular on end mouths 8 of the tubes 2.

Each tube 2 has at its end an opening whose contour 8a defines an end mouth 8.

Tube 2 has a preferably flat end. The line drawing the contour of the end mouth 8 is closed and fits into a plane.

Unlike one of the architectures of the prior art, the tube 2 does not include a cutout at its end to insert a seal, in particular a sealing strap. The end mouth 8 therefore does not include a cutout: the line drawing the outline of the end mouth 8 is closed.

Chaque bouche d'extrémité 8 est comprise dans un plan d'extension principale d'extrémité P.The end mouths 8 of the tubes 2 are illustrated on the Figure 3 . Each tube 2 includes an end mouth 8. Each end mouth 8 is included in a main end extension plane P.

Elles peuvent être ovale, ovoïde, ronde, carrée...Preferably, the end mouths 8 are of substantially rectangular shape. They can be oval, ovoid, round, square...

Preferably, the main end extension planes P of the end mouths 8 of the tubes 2 are coplanar with each other.

According to a particular embodiment, the main end extension planes P of the end mouths 8 are distinct parallel planes.

As illustrated on the Figure 4 , each tube 2 comprising an inlet channel 2a for fluid circulation and an outlet channel 2b for fluid circulation separated by a separation wall 2c. In the case of the cooler charge air, the fluid is charge air.

Each tube 2 includes a corrugated insert 19. The presence of undulations makes it possible to increase the surface of the insert 19 and therefore the exchange surface between the tube 2 and the charge air.

On the Figure 4 , the separation wall 2c is a U-shaped hollow wall.

La bretelle d'étanchéité 13 est représentée en transparence sur la figure 4.The sealing strap 13 is shown in transparency on the Figure 4 .

The sealing strap 13 extends in the stacking direction d of the tubes 2 on the mouths 8 of the tubes 2, above the separation wall 2c of each tube 2.

Lorsque la bretelle d'étanchéité 13 est en compression contre la bouche d'extrémité 8 d'un tube 2, la paroi creuse en forme de U et en particulier l'espace intérieur de cette paroi creuse est obturé par ladite bretelle d'étanchéité 13.When the sealing strap 13 is in compression against the end mouth 8 of a tube 2, the U-shaped hollow wall and in particular the interior space of this hollow wall is closed by said sealing strap 13 .

The dividing wall 2c of a tube may also be made of material with the tube 2. For example, the dividing wall 2c may result from a fold when the tube 2 is a folded tube. The separation wall 2c can also be the central wall of a stamped tube.

La figure 5 est une illustration du joint d'étanchéité 10.There figure 5 is an illustration of seal 10.

The seal 10 comprises a substantially rectangular frame 11 capable of being inserted into the peripheral groove of a collector plate.

The seal 10 comprises a sealing strap 13 extending between two opposite edges of the frame 11.

Each side tab 12 of each pair of side tab 12 extending perpendicularly and on either side of said sealing strap 13.

Le nombre de languettes latérales 12 peut varier selon la géométrie et la taille du cadre 11.The number of side tabs 12 may vary depending on the geometry and size of the frame 11.

For example, for a frame of length 152mm and width 90mm, it is advantageous to provide six side tongues, distributed in pairs of three side tongues, each side tongue 12 of a pair of side tongues extending on either side other of the sealing strap 13.

The side tabs 12 have for example a thickness of 1.8mm.

A side tab 12 may be sufficient to hold the sealing strap 13 in a predefined position.

The seal may include a single pair of side tabs, each of the side tabs extending perpendicularly on either side of the sealing strap.

On the figure 5 , the side tabs 12 of the pair or pairs of side tabs 12 are aligned with each other.

The side tabs 12 of the pair or pairs of side tabs 12 are arranged along the same line perpendicular to the sealing strap 13.

The side tabs 12 can be arranged staggered along the sealing strap, alternately on one side and the other of said sealing strap.

The length of the receiving plate 15 is at least equal to the height overall of the tube bundle 2 measured in the stacking direction.

There figure 6a represents a sectional view of the seal 10 of the figure 5a along the Via-Via line according to a plane passing along two lateral tongues 12 and perpendicular to the sealing strap 13.

Le plan d'extension principale du cadre 11 du joint d'étanchéité 10 est situé dans un plan parallèle et distinct du plan d'extension principale de la bretelle d'étanchéité 13.The main extension plane of the frame 11 of the seal 10 is located in a plane parallel to and distinct from the main extension plane of the sealing strap 13.

Le plan d'extension principale du cadre 11 du joint d'étanchéité 10 est situé dans un plan parallèle et distinct du plan d'extension principale des languettes latérales 12.The main extension plane of the frame 11 of the seal 10 is located in a plane parallel to and distinct from the main extension plane of the side tabs 12.

The raised edges 14 are symmetrical in shape with respect to a plane perpendicular to the side tongues 12 and passing through the center of the receiving plate 15.

The two raised edges 14 have a sufficient height to maintain a dividing wall 21 on the receiving plate 15. For example, the height of the two raised edges 14 measured from and perpendicular to the receiving plate 15 at their highest point is included between 0.5 and 3 millimeters, in particular between 2 and 3 mm.

The two raised edges 14 have a cross section in the shape of a right triangle.

The sealing strap 13 has a cross section in the form of a hollow receptacle whose interior side walls are flared from the receiving plate 15 which is the bottom of the receptacle and whose exterior side walls are at right angles to the plane of the plate reception 15.

The side tabs 12 comprise a surface 12a intended to be brought into contact with a collector plate.

The surface 12a of each side tongue 12 is flat.

The surfaces 12a of the side tongues 12 are coplanar with each other.

It is however possible that the surfaces 12a are not flat. Indeed, the function of the side tabs 12a is to maintain the sealing strap 13 at a predefined distance from the frame 11 and not a sealing function with respect to the collector plate on which the seal 10 is posed.

There figure 6b represents a sectional view of the seal 10 of the figure 5b along the line Vlb-Vlb according to a plane passing along the sealing strap 13 in the center of the receiving plate 15 and perpendicular to the side tabs 12.

Le joint d'étanchéité 10 est d'épaisseur constante au niveau du plateau de réception 15.The seal 10 is of constant thickness at the level of the receiving plate 15.

The sealing strap 13 comprises a surface 13a intended to be brought into contact with a collector plate.

The surface 13a of the sealing strap 13 is flat.

According to another embodiment illustrated in Figure 10 , the surface 13a of the sealing strap 13 may be non-planar.

There figure 6c represents a sectional view of the seal 10 of the figure 5c along the line Vlc-Vlc according to a plane passing along a raised edge 14 of the sealing strap 13 and perpendicular to the side tabs 12.

The length of the raised edges 14 is less than the length of the receiving plate 15. The raised edge is continuous.

The length of the raised edges 14 may be equal to that of the receiving plate 15. The raised edges may be discontinuous and include only sections regularly distributed along the receiving plate 15.

The raised edges 14 are identical but can be of different height or shape.

They can also be made of a material different or identical to that of the receiving plate 15 and for example glued to said receiving plate 15.

On the Figure 7 , the collector box 26 is secured to the collector plate 3. The foot 22 of the collector box 26 is crimped to the collector plate 3 by crimping tabs.

The collector box 26 comprises a partition wall 21 delimiting an inlet chamber 25 in the inlet channels 2a of the tubes 2 and an outlet chamber 20 for the outlet channels 2b of the tubes 2.

La cloison de séparation 21 est disposée sur la bretelle d'étanchéité 13, en particulier sur le plateau de réception 15.The separation wall 21 is placed on the sealing strap 13, in particular on the receiving plate 15.

La cloison de séparation 21 est maintenue par les bords relevés 14 de la bretelle d'étanchéité 13.The partition wall 21 is held by the raised edges 14 of the sealing strap 13.

Les bords relevés 14 de la bretelle d'étanchéité 13 sont symétriques par rapport à la cloison de séparation 21.The raised edges 14 of the sealing strap 13 are symmetrical with respect to the partition wall 21.

The frame 11 of the seal 10 is located in a peripheral groove 5 of the collector plate 3.

Le cadre 11 du joint d'étanchéité 10 est comprimé entre le pied de boîte 22 de la boîte collectrice 26 et le fond de la gorge périphérique 5 de la plaque collectrice 3.The frame 11 of the seal 10 is compressed between the box foot 22 of the collector box 26 and the bottom of the peripheral groove 5 of the collector plate 3.

The sealing strap 13 is in contact and preferably compressed against the partition wall 21 and against the collector plate 3 and the tubes 2, as illustrated figure 8 .

The openings 7 have inverted collars 9, that is to say making projection of the bottom of the plate 6 on the opposite side of the collector box 26. In other words, the collars 9 project from the bottom of the plate 6 on the side opposite the peripheral groove 5.

Avantageusement les tubes 2 sont brasés aux collets 9.The collars 9 extend from the bottom of the plate 6 around the tubes 2, the ends of which they enclose. Advantageously, the tubes 2 are brazed to the collars 9.

According to another embodiment, for example illustrated in Figure 10 , the collars can be oriented in the opposite direction.

Les languettes latérales 12 s'étendent sur le fond de plaque 6 de la plaque collectrice 3.The side tabs 12 extend over the bottom of the plate 6 of the collector plate 3.

In the embodiment of the figure 8 , the end mouths 8 of the tubes 2 are substantially coplanar with each other and with the bottom of the plate 6.

The surface 13a of the sealing strap 13 in contact with the collector plate 3 and in particular with the bottom of the plate 6 and in contact with the end mouths 8 of the tubes is flat.

The surface 13a of the sealing strap 13 is included in the main end extension planes P of the end mouths 8 of the tubes 2.

The main end extension planes P of the end mouths 8 of the tubes 2 are in the same plane as the bottom of the plate 6.

The elasticity of the sealing strap 13 associated with its compression against the end mouths 8 and the bottom of the plate 6 makes it possible to fill in the coplanarity defects between the end mouths 8 of the tubes 2 and the bottom of the plate 6 to guarantee a good seal with the separation wall 21 of the collector box 26.

Indeed, the manufacturing tolerances of the tubes 2 and the collector plate 3 as well as the assembly tolerances can cause the tubes 2 to sink by a height dh relative to the bottom of the plate or to exceed dh relative to the bottom of the plate. plate. The depression and overrun are distances which are measured locally between the plane containing the end mouth of a tube and the bottom of the plate which is adjacent to it.

On the Figure 9 , the excess corresponds to a positive height dh, the depression corresponds to a negative height dh.

Beyond a certain height dh a sealing strap 13 with a flat surface 13a is no longer suitable.

This may be the case in a collector plate architecture with inverted collars when the tubes 2 are designed to protrude from the bottom of the plate 6 of the collector plate 3 and this is particularly the case when the collars are standard, as illustrated in Figure 10 .

On the Figure 10 , the openings 7 of the bottom of the plate 6 of the collector plate comprise collars projecting from the bottom of the plate 6 on the side of the collector box to which the collector plate is secured.

The tubes 2 being held by the collars 9, they project from the bottom of the plate 6 by several millimeters, into the collector box.

In this configuration, the surface 13a of the sealing strap 13 in contact with the plate bottom 6 of the collector plate 3 and the end mouths 8 of the tubes 2 is of complementary shape to the surface formed by the plate base 6 of the collector plate 3 and the end mouths 8 of the tubes 2 on which said sealing strap 13 is arranged.

Ainsi, la surface 13a de la bretelle d'étanchéité 13 est ondulée, la profondeur des ondulations s'adaptant au profil des creux et vagues engendrée par la surface du fond de plaque 6, des collets 9, et des bouches d'extrémités 8 des tubes 2.Thus, the surface 13a of the sealing strap 13 is corrugated, the depth of the undulations adapting to the profile of the hollows and waves generated by the surface of the plate bottom 6, the collars 9, and the end mouths 8 of the tubes 2.

Thus, depending on the depth or protrusion of the end mouths 8 of the tubes 2 relative to the bottom of the plate 6 of the collector plate 3, the surface 13a of the sealing strap 13 is either flat or corrugated.

For example, the seal 10 comprises a sealing strap 13 whose thickness measured at the receiving plate 15 is 4 millimeters. The maximum compression distance of the sealing strap 13 at the level of the sealing plate 15 is 3.06 millimeters. The minimum compression distance is 0.03 millimeters.

The maximum compression distance of the sealing strap 13 at the level of the sealing plate 15 being 3.06 millimeters, the compression margin is therefore 0.94 millimeters. For an overhang dh of the end mouths 8 of less than 0.94 millimeters, a sealing strap 13 with a flat surface 13a may be suitable. For an excess dh greater than 0.94 millimeter, there is interference between the partition wall 21 and the end mouths 8 of the tubes 2, as well as a cutout of the sealing strap 13. It is therefore preferable that the surface 13a of the sealing strap 13 is corrugated and locally increased to fill the hollows caused by the protrusion dh of the end mouths 8 relative to the bottom of the plate 6.

The minimum compression distance of the sealing strap 13 at the level of the sealing plate 15 is 0.03 millimeter when the maximum depression dh is 0.66mm. For a depression dh greater than 0.66 millimeters, the surface 13a of the sealing strap 13 is preferably corrugated.
