Description

The present invention relates to an abrasive article, in particular Marmorierkörper comprising a polymer matrix in which abrasive grains are embedded, and at least one plasticizer.

Such abrasive bodies are known from the prior art. For example, marble articles are known as flexible abrasive articles, with which surface and decorative cuts, e.g. Can be realized on stainless steel or aluminum in tank construction. About the plasticizer, the hardness and flexibility of the abrasive body is set. By adjusting the hardness and flexibility of the grinding wheel, in turn, the properties for the grinding process can be controlled in a targeted manner. For example, the gloss, the roughness and similar properties of the surface or decorative finish can be adjusted. In the grinding bodies known from the prior art, in particular Marmorierkörpern diisobutyl phthalate (DIBP) is used as plasticizer. However, these Marmorierkörper show various weaknesses when grinding. Thus, the micrographs which are obtained with the Marmorierkörpern known from the prior art, not uniform and homogeneous. Also, the gloss produced by the grinding is often uneven in the surfaces treated with the prior art marbling bodies.

It is an object of the present invention to provide an abrasive article which overcomes the disadvantages of the prior art abrasive articles. A particular object of the invention is to provide an abrasive article with which improved micrographs can be obtained.

This object is achieved by an abrasive article of the type mentioned, which is characterized in that the at least one plasticizer is a carboxylic acid ester.

The inventors of the abrasive article according to the invention have surprisingly found that the use of a carboxylic acid ester as a plasticizer with the abrasive body according to the invention can produce micrographs that are substantially more homogeneous and uniform than the micrographs produced by prior art abrasive articles. This results in a substantially improved visual appearance of the surfaces treated with the abrasive article according to the invention (see also Comparative Experiments below).

A further advantage of the abrasive article according to the invention over the abrasive articles known from the prior art is that no diisobutyl phthalate (DIBP) is present in the abrasive article according to the invention. DIBP is very dangerous because of health issues. Thus, DIBP is classified as toxic to reproduction and is therefore considered a substance of very high concern. These health risks are avoided in the abrasive article according to the invention.

The at least one plasticizer is advantageously selected from the group of acetyltributyl citrate (ATBC), citric acid ester, benzoic acid ester, adipic acid ester, sebacic acid ester, acetic acid ester, fatty acid ester, benzenetricarboxylic acid ester, in particular trimellitic acid ester and dioctyl terephthalate (DOTP). These carboxylic acid esters have proven to be particularly advantageous in terms of achieving a homogeneous micrograph. Acetyl tributyl citrate has proven to be particularly suitable.

Dies wird insbesondere beim durchgeführten, unten beschriebenen Vergleichstest deutlich. This becomes particularly clear when carrying out the comparative test described below.

The polymer matrix is usually an elastomer matrix.

The polymer matrix is particularly preferably a polysulfide matrix. A polysulfide matrix, in combination with carboxylic acid esters, has been found to be particularly useful in applying trim to metallic surfaces.

As a rule, the abrasive grains comprise corundum and / or silicon carbide.

Furthermore, the abrasive article according to the invention may contain fillers and additives.

Advantageously, the proportion of carboxylic acid ester in the abrasive article according to the invention, in particular the proportion of acetyltributyl citrate, is from about 1 to about 5% by weight. This proportion has proven to be particularly suitable for achieving optimum decorative cuts.

Vergleichstest:Comparison Test:

There were micrographs with a known from the prior art abrasive body containing diisobutyl phthalate (DIBP) as a plasticizer, as well as with an inventive Abrasive article containing ATBC as a plasticizer.

Fig. 1 Fig. a shows a photograph of the micrograph produced with the abrasive article known in the prior art. Here, a grinding pattern was produced on the surface of a metal container with the grinding body known from the prior art.

Fig. 1b shows a photograph of the micrograph, which was produced by means of the abrasive article according to the invention. Again, a metal container was processed.

As can be clearly seen in the photographs, the grinding pattern produced by the abrasive article according to the invention is substantially more homogeneous and has a better, more uniform gloss than is the case with the grinding pattern produced by the grinding wheel known from the prior art. The comparative experiment shows impressively that with the aid of the abrasive body according to the invention, which contains as plasticizer a carboxylic acid ester (here ATBC), a significantly better optical appearance can be achieved than with the abrasive article of the prior art.
