Description

  • The present invention relates to a laundry washing and/or drying machine comprising a front door having a handle installed by way of slidingly fitting fastener tabs into connection slots in an inter-engaged manner. Laundry machines such as for instance washing machines, drying machines and combo washing/drying machines comprise a rotary drum in which cloth items are placed and accessible via a front door, a water tub in which the rotary drum is rotatable and a motor providing said rotary drum to be driven. To this end, laundry machines have front doors typically allowing access into the rotary drum for loading and unloading the laundry to be processed. Alternatively, a direct drive mechanism can be used where need for using of a pulley mechanism is dispensed with.
  • A front door opening mechanism typically functions in the manner that a handle associated with a handle lever is rotatable to drive a hook lever, the latter being actuated to lock or unlock the front door. Generally, rotation of the handle provides that a contact portion leans on the hook lever in the direction to engage with a female member for effectuating locking of the front door. The force exerted by the contact portion on the hook lever either releases the locking mechanism or provides positioning of the hook lever in the engaging state. In other words, the front door provides access to washing chamber by means of the handle.
  • An external handle portion of the handle can be mounted on the outer surface of the front door's outer lid by means of different connection structures. The external handle portion is therefore the outer visible portion and a non-uniform and asymmetrical positioning thereof in terms of the relative levels with the neighboring outer lid portions as the machine ages may create a low quality impression on the part of end-users. This non-uniformity effect is overcome by installation of the handle's external handle portion in a sliding manner so as to establish mutual inter-engagement with the external lid tab connection.
  • A prior art publication in the technical field of the present invention may be referred to as US2013232810 , which discloses an appliance provided with a door mounted to a cabinet of the appliance. The door has a handle that is defined by a recess in a sidewall of the door. The handle can be positioned on the door such that the door is suitable for use on either a washing machine appliance or a dryer appliance.
  • Prior art document US 2005/262887 describes a door assembly for a washing machine in which at least one boss is provided on an outer frame, and at least one hole for receiving the boss is provided on a handle.
  • The present invention provides a laundry machine in which a handle's external handle portion is mounted on an external lid portion in a uniform manner so as to involve a planar neighboring surface relation with neighboring outer lid portions as defined by the characterizing features in Claim 1.
  • Primary object of the present invention is to provide an improved installation of the handle of the laundry machine front door. The present invention proposes a laundry machine with a handle comprising an external handle portion mounted to an outer lid of the front door with at least one fastener tab of the external handle portion being slid into a fastener tab enclosure of the outer lid, providing a single-axis connection direction and ensuring fixation on horizontal and vertical axes. The external handle portion is provided with fastener tabs having outwardly projecting body portions leading to an engagement extension inclined therewith while an intermediate wall joins the engagement extension with the external handle portion, dividing the space defined between the engagement extension and the external handle portion into two parts. The intermediate walls inserted into slits of the fastener tab enclosures serve for the purpose of preventing lateral displacement of the external handle portion, therefore contributing to preventing positional uniformity problems in the long run.
  • Further, a pair of external handle side tabs projecting from lateral corners of the external handle portion is provided to interengagingly communicate with outer lid side slots of the outer lid. The mutual interconnection substantially contributes to eliminating uniformity problems and the non-flush surface relation with the neighboring outer lid portions as a result of the ageing of the machine.

  • The present invention relates to a laundry machine comprising a water tub, a rotary drum, in which the laundry is to be placed and an electric motor rotating the drum. A front door (1) typically allows access into the drum for loading or unloading laundry. The front door (1) of the laundry machine is conventionally opened by means of a handle (6) installed by way of slidingly fitting fastener tabs (8) of an external handle portion (4) into connection slots (11) disposed on a lid engagement area (7) of an outer lid (3) as will be delineated below.
  • The front door (1) of the laundry machine comprising an inner lid (2) and an outer lid (3) provides access into the drum by way of operating the handle (6). The handle (6) having external and interior handle portions (4, 5) operates so as to either release a locking mechanism or provides positioning of a respective locking end (not shown) in the engaging state.
  • According to the present invention, a pair of fastener tabs (8) is disposed on the inner surface of the external handle portion (4) so as to allow attachment of the external handle portion (4) to the outer lid (3) in a slidingly fitted manner. The fastener tabs (8) engage with connections slots (11) of the outer lid (3), the connections slots (11) being defined by fastener tab enclosures (12) of the outer lid (3).
  • Therefore a lid engagement area (7) of the outer lid (3) provides that the external handle portion (4) is slid into fastener tab enclosures (12) in a unidirectional interengaging manner, therefore ensuring a robust mechanical connection. The fastener tabs (8) are centrally positioned on the external handle portion (4) surface with an outwardly projecting body portion while the engaging ends thereof are connected with the external handle portion (4) body by intermediate walls (16) in the form of a divider portion mating with slits (15) of the fastener tab enclosures (12) of the lid engagement area (7). Therefore, the intermediate walls (16) in cooperation with the slits (15) ensure that the external handle portion (4) is only allowed unidirectional displacement in the mounting direction.
  • The fastener tab enclosures (12) within the lid engagement area (7) serve for enclosing the fastener tabs (8) to ensure proper positioning and rigid installation of the external handle portion (4) on to the outer lid (3) of the front door (1). A fastener tab enclosure (12) is shaped as an open-sided housing with a pair of opposite alignment walls (14) positioned laterally around the open side of the fastener tab enclosure (12) to provide guidance and ease of movement for the fastener tabs (8) during installation.
  • The external handle portion (4) of the handle (6) further comprises a pair of side tabs (external handle side tabs, 13) to be projecting from lateral corners of the external handle portion (4). Each of the external handle side tabs (13) is designed to have two side tab walls (18) inclined relative to each other and having an upper wall joining the two side tab walls (18) so as to mate with outer lid side slots (17) similarly having two side walls inclined relative to each other and joined by an upper wall. During installation, the upper wall joining the two side tab walls (18) of the external handle side tabs (13) is turned upside down and the external handle side tabs (13) and the outer lid side slots (17) fit into each other in an engaging manner at both ends of the lid engagement area (7). Therefore, rigid and stable positioning of the external handle portion (4) is ensured as each pair of the external handle side tab (13) and outer lid side slot (17) cooperate to prevent displacement of the external handle portion (4) both on horizontal and vertical axes.
  • The mounting of the fastener tabs (8) to the outer lid (3) of the front door (1) is therefore provided by way of first aligning the external handle side tabs (13) relative to the outer lid side slots (17) at both ends of the lid engagement area (7) followed by sliding of the fastener tabs (8) into the connection slots (11) until the intermediate walls (16) are fully introduced into the slits (15). Each of Fig. 5 to Fig. 8 demonstrates cross-sectional views along the fastener tabs (8) and fastener tab enclosures (12) during different stages of the mounting operation.
  • Further, according to the present invention, an interior handle portion (5) effective in locking and unlocking the front door (1) is provided with a pair of interior handle tabs (10) providing installment of the interior handle portion (5) to front door (1) by engagement of an interior handle tab (10) with a tab holder (9) positioned on the external handle portion (4).

  • According to the invention, the handle (6) comprises an external handle portion (4) mountable to the outer lid (3) of the front door (1) such that at least one fastener tab (8) disposed on the external handle portion (4) mechanically communicates with a fastener tab enclosure (12) of the outer lid (3) in a slidingly fitted manner.
  • According to the invention, the outer lid (3) comprises a lid engagement area (7) having at least one fastener tab enclosure (12) defining a connections slot (11) with which a fastener tab (8) disposed on the inner surface of the external handle portion (4) engages.
  • According to the invention, the fastener tabs (8) of the external handle portion (4) have an outwardly projecting body portion with an engagement extension extending in an inclined manner with respect to the outwardly projecting body portion.
  • According to the invention, each fastener tab (8) further comprises an intermediate wall (16) connected with the external handle portion (4) body and dividing the space defined between the engagement extension and the external handle portion (4) into two parts.
  • According to the invention, each intermediate wall (16) mates with a slit (15) in the form of a linear channel of the fastener tab enclosure (12) on the lid engagement area (7).
  • In an embodiment of the present invention, each fastener tab enclosure (12) is shaped as an open-sided housing with a pair of opposite alignment walls (14) positioned laterally around the open side of the fastener tab enclosure (12).
  • In a further embodiment of the present invention, the external handle portion (4) of the handle (6) comprises a pair of external handle side tabs (13) projecting from lateral corners of the external handle portion (4).
  • In a further embodiment of the present invention, each external handle side tab (13) is designed to have two side tab walls (18) inclined relative to each other and having an outer wall joining the two side tab walls (18) so as to define a semi-closed inner space.
  • In a further embodiment of the present invention, each external handle side tab (13) mates with outer lid side slots (17) of the outer lid (3), the outer lid side slots (17) having two side walls inclined relative to each other and joined by an outer wall so as to define a semi-closed inner space.
  • In a further embodiment of the present invention, an interior handle portion (5) is provided with at least one interior handle tab (10) providing installment of the interior handle portion (5) to the front door (1) by engagement of an interior handle tab (10) with a tab holder (9) positioned on the external handle portion (4).
  • In a further embodiment of the present invention, the external handle portion (4) is mounted to the outer lid (3) of the front door (1) by way of first aligning the external handle side tabs (13) relative to the outer lid side slots (17) followed by sliding of the fastener tabs (8) into the connection slots (11) until the intermediate walls (16) are fully introduced into the slits (15).
