Description

AN ELECTRONIC SYSTEM FOR PRODUCT IDENTIFICATION AND FILLING
MANAGEMENT
DESCRIPTION
Related technical field:
The invention is related to an electronic system for product identification and filling management which eliminates mixing of the products with the haulage media of fluid hauling vehicles such as tankers, wagons, vessels and similar, and mistakes experienced during filling and unloading operations. The invention is particularly suitable for filling and unloading of different fluid products in more than one tank compartments.
Current Situation of the Technique :
Haulage units such as tankers, wagons, etc. accommodating different storage media separated from each other can be used for hauling of fluids, especially refinery products.
The subject haulage units may comprise more than one storage compartments in order to provide transport different product groups through same haulage unit as well in order to prevent shaking in transit and provide road and load safety.
For example, in case haulage unit transports petroleum refinery products, haulage unit can be a wagon or road fuel tanker. In this case, tanker / wagon has 1 or more independent compartments. Each of these compartments can be distributed to the body of the haulage unit in such a manner that they will haul different products in different or same volumes. The products to be hauled such as 97 octane unleaded, 95 octane unleaded, diesel, blended diesel fuel, kerosene, etc. can be located/filled into the different compartments at desired volumes without possibility of mixing of them with each other. Thus, the fuel needs of a filling station can be covered with just a one haulage unit (tanker) wholly by placing/filling 95 octane unleaded gasoline into one compartment and blended diesel fuel into another and diesel into one another compartment of tanker / wagon.
Haulage units are receiving fluid load demanded to be hauled from filling terminals and then unloading at another station located in another destination. Such filling and unloading operations of concerned tanker are made into above ground and underground storage environments.
However, since the operations of filling and unloading different products in and from haulage units are performed continuously, tracking of these operations and high financial burdens caused by the mistakes experienced during these operations, comprises the basic technical problem for tracking of these operations in current technique.
According to the financial value of the transported product, precise tracking / monitoring and control of hauling, filling and unloading process is very important. At any of these stages, financial losses such as theft of product, gone out of control as well as loss of product due to operational mistakes can be arisen . On the other hand, if the fluid product to be hauled is classified as hazardous product, continuous tracking and control of the product in order to prevent potential risk factors could be more important.
In normal usage of the technique, the operation of filling and unloading of haulage units are monitored through the processes in which human labor is more weighed. Filling operations are identified and completed by controlling the valves connected to haulage unit or storage environment through human work force.
Unloading / filling process is followed by entering order quantity to be filled or unloaded into a control device, a recording media (like a computer) or automation system.
The information that which product will be filled or unloaded in which compartment of the haulage unit is directed by the written signboards located on the concerned compartment of the tanker. However, control device, recording media or automation system for data entering, all the decisions concerning to the control of entire process, regardless of which process is used, and operations to be performed are taken by the operator of the operation. Therefore, it is quite likely to experience human based mistakes.
Filling / unloading operations of the haulage units such as wagon / road fuel tankers used especially for hauling of refinery products can be realized by means of manholes suitable for overhead filling / unloading operation or filling / unloading couplings positioned relatively at the more lower part of haulage unit .
In current technique, operator decides to which product will be placed in which compartment of haulage unit and writes the details complied to this decision over a plate, positions this plate over the compartment of haulage unit and follows the required filling and unloading operations. Filling operation into the suitable compartment of haulage unit is started by means of manhole cover or filling - unloading couplings through the control of operation in compliance with the details written in plate positioned over the compartment of the haulage unit. But the compartments of many haulage unit are in different sizes in volume. In the case that operators attempts to make filling into the wrong compartment of haulage unit, the compartment of the haulage unit may overflow due to volume difference and product loss can be experienced.
On the other hand, any mistake of the operator related with filling compartments may lead mixing of different types of products inside the compartment or place into which transfer to be made from the compartment. In case of mixing of the products with each other, products loss can be experienced again since separating mixed products is a very difficult process.
Another technical problem that may appear in the current technique is the mistakes seen during the unloading of filled products into correct destination properly. In the case that mixing of filling request slip or safety cards issued by the operator or tracking system during the filling operation, the product can be transferred to different destinations instead of pre-intended destination. This situation may be caused by operator mistakes or by the persons intentionally for the purpose of stealing product.
On the other hand, it is not possible to monitor and record the fuel hauled with existing systems. This situation allows stopping and unloading of haulage unit at a destination other than the intended destination or transferring a part of load. Since the tracking systems used under usual conditions of technique are not able to control the product level in the haulage unit during filling and unloading operations, the possibility of intervention to possible overflow or short filling cases are being eliminated. Since the tracking and filling / unloading control systems used in the current technique are labor intensive systems that must be controlled continuously by an operator, both time and labor force losses can be suffered. Therefore, mentioned systems are prone to mistakes and their usage costs are also high.
Purpose of the invention:
The purpose of the invention is to establish a system which can be used easily and safely due to its freeness from human errors.
Another purpose of the invention is to provide a tracking system in which all the operations are done by the driver without requiring operator.
An another purpose of the invention is to establish a system which is able make data entry without having the steps such as PIN code entry or card read.
Another purpose of the invention is to provide a system which can operate mistake-free by assigning and controlling haulage unit and haulage unit's compartment labels by the system independently from an operator during the filling / unloading operations.
Another purpose of the invention is to establish a control system which provides that the compartment of haulage unit or relating to haulage unit is filled and unloaded only at the destinations pre-determined by the system.
It is to provide a system which is able to time and labor force saving due to automation of filling / unloading operation processes by simplifying them.
Description of the invention:
The invention is an electronic system for product identification and filling management which provides automatic filling by recognizing both product and dispatching environment automatically by removing the operator control during filling and unloading operations between fluid hauling vehicles such as tankers, wagons, vessels and similar and underground and above ground tanks .
The subject system consists of the combination of sub elements of the system positioned over filling terminals, haulage units and unloading terminals and functioning / operation of the system is provided via coupled usage of these sub elements separately or collectively.
Over the filling terminal; filling terminal control system sub elements which are consisted of electronic labels located over each filling unit, electronic label drivers which can transmit identity details read from electronic label to control unit, 1 electronic label reader per each filling island of filling terminal, a visible and an audible warning unit for each filling island and terminal filling control interface are positioned .
If the invention is used for filling operation of refinery products, filling unit may become filling arm.
Junction boxes, cable glands and communication / power cables are added to the system separately in order to provide the above defined system sub elements operate in an interrelated way with each other. Over the haulage unit; haulage unit control system sub elements which are consisted of electronic hauling unit label which will be provided one piece for each haulage unit, and able to carry and transmit the data regarding tanker electronically, one electronic manhole label for each manhole cover for each compartment within the haulage unit, and one electronic coupling label for each filling / unloading coupling for each manhole cover for each compartment within the haulage unit are positioned .
Haulage unit may comprise a haulage unit control unit which is able to provide tracking of haulage unit and control of electronic labels other than the sub elements described above. Mentioned control unit can be a controlled having a microprocessor. Haulage unit control unit is positioned over the haulage unit. Over the unloading terminal; haulage unit control system sub elements which are consisted of unloading control unit which verify electronic labels of underground / above ground tank at unloading terminal and haulage unit coupling electronic labels, engage alarm devices where mixing risk appears, and prevent overflow of underground tanks via tank automation interface, electronic label reader, underground / above ground tank electronic product labels, visible and audible warning unit and underground / above ground tanks automation interface are positioned . Cable glands and communication / power cables are added to the system separately in order to provide the above defined system sub elements operate in an interrelated way with each other.
Above mentioned electronic labels can a label at RFID structure. In the case that electronic labels are RFID label, electronic label reader can be RFID label readers.
Sub elements of invented filling terminal system, haulage unit system sub elements, and unloading terminal system sub elements are connected to a central server in order to provide that they are connected to each other and operate compatibly. Filling terminal sub elements, haulage unit system sub elements and unloading terminal system sub elements are kept under control by connecting terminal filling control interface, haulage unit control unit, unloading control unit and underground / above ground tanks automation interface to a central server.
Above described central server can run through a web interface and both system tracking and control can be done via web interface .
When a haulage unit is arrived at filling terminal within the coverage of invented system, haulage unit label of haulage unit is read by electronic label reader and approaching haulage unit is defined in terminal filling control interface. Haulage unit is directed to suitable filling unit (arm) in compliance with the data recorded at terminal filling control interface. Electronic label on the filling unit and electronic labels located over the haulage unit compartment (manhole or filling / unloading coupling) are read by means of electronic label readers located on filling island and the product to be filled and predefined compartment are verified. After the product to be filled and filling compartment are approved, filling operation is started. The product in suitable amount is being transferred to the concerned compartment under control upon commencement of filling operation.
Terminal filling control interface is controlling filling operation continuously. Warnings can be raised via visible and audible warning units if the electronic label definitions defined in the system do not match each other. A visible warning is also shown to the driver or operator that the operation is being carried out properly as well as for the mistakes such as wrong connections during filling or overflow of filling environment. While correct filling in an application of invention is shown by visible and audible warning unit in green light throughout the duration of filling, wrong filling operation is shown to driver or operator with a red light or audible warning. If red light or audible warning is arisen in the system, filling operation is being stopped by terminal filling control interface.
After concerned product is filled into concerned compartment by filling unit (arm) under the control of terminal filling control interface, electronic label for other compartment are defined to terminal filling control interface by means of electronic label readers and filling operation of other compartment is started.
If the structure of filling island is appropriate, more than one filling unit can be defined concurrently for the compartments of haulage unit and filling operation for all compartment can started simultaneously. Since a single visible and audible warning unit will not sufficient for one filling island in such a case, a separate visible and audible warning unit can be used for each filling unit. After filling operation is finished, haulage unit is sent to the destination defined by central server. When requested, electronic labels of haulage unit can be sealed by the central server up to destination to where haulage unit will be transferred. Therefore, it is not possible to unload haulage unit up to the intended destination. This avoids unloading other than intended destinations by mistake or by malicious persons.
An electronic locking mechanism is positioned over manhole or filling / unloading coupling in order to provide sealing. In this way, concerned covers and valves are remained locked until the haulage unit arrives at the intended destination. A position determination and tracking unit can be contained in the structure of invented haulage unit control unit. Concerned position determination and tracking unit can be GPS-based. In this way, the position of the haulage unit can be monitored throughout its travel toward destination.
On the other hand, a position limit can be defined for position determination and tracking unit when requested. In such a case, if haulage unit is gone out of determined travel limits, required warning is done over web interface via central server. When haulage unit is arrived at intended destination, electronic haulage unit label is read by electronic label reader and defined to unloading terminal incoming haulage unit unloading control unit and underground / above ground tanks automation interface. Unloading control unit is directing haulage unit to concerned underground / above ground tank. Then underground / above ground tank electronic product labels and electronic coupling label or electronic manhole label are defined to electronic label reader. Underground / above ground tanks automation interface provides starting or stopping of the operation by raising audible or visible warnings via visible or audible warning unit if the product line connected to the tank is proper.
For example, operator or driver is being informed with green light if proper connection is provided, and system sounds the mistake with red light and audible warning in case of wrong connection.
Thanks to control of entire system with central server, which product is to be unloaded or filled can be planned prior to the haulage unit comes to unloading terminal or filling terminal.
Prior to haulage unit arrives at filling terminal, which operations will be performed when and in which filling island can be planned beforehand. Same planning can also be done for unloading operation and filling - unloading process can optimized through pre-planning.
If invented haulage unit is in a structure having filling / unloading coupling, solenoid valves like ADR tanker, dependency of the system to the operator can be mitigated by providing automatic opening and closing of the valves by the system.
