Abstract
Description
- The present invention relates to a supply air terminal device.
- In prior art cooling and heating devices usually comprise a supply air chamber, a mixing chamber and a heat exchanger. The fresh air is brought from the supply air chamber into the mixing chamber, wherein the fresh air is mixed with the circulated room air, and the combined air flow is conducted to the room space. The fresh air flow induces the circulated room air to flow from the room into the mixing chamber through a heat exchanger, in which the circulated room air can be cooled or heated.
- The
FI patent 122295 B - The objective of the invention is to alleviate the disadvantages mentioned above.
- In particular, it is an objective of the present invention to provide shallower structure that does not require so much space in vertical direction in a room.
- According to an aspect, the present invention provides a supply air terminal device having at least one supply air chamber comprising a supply air chamber floor and a fresh air inlet arranged to receive fresh air, and at least one mixing chamber comprising a mixing air chamber floor and end walls. The invention comprises also at least one nozzle arranged to conduct the fresh supply air from the supply air chamber into the mixing chamber. The fresh supply air flow induces circulated air from the room into the mixing chamber through holes in the mixing chamber floor and the combined air flow is formed. The circulated air flow passes a heat exchanger, which is arranged within the mixing chamber. There is also a channel, which is arranged to conduct the combined air flow from the mixing chamber to the room. The supply air chamber and the mixing chamber are arranged parallel to each other so that the supply air chamber floor and the mixing chamber floor form a visible plane surface.
- The advantage of the invention is that the supply air terminal device is thinner in vertical direction and, therefore, requires less space in vertical direction in the room.
- In an embodiment of the invention, the supply air chamber and the mixing chamber are separated by a vertical wall.
- In an embodiment of the invention, at least one nozzle is arranged in the upper section of the vertical wall.
- In an embodiment of the invention, the heat exchanger is located in proximity to the mixing chamber floor.
- In an embodiment of the invention, the fresh supply air from the nozzle is blown in horizontal direction above the heat exchanger so that the flow induces the circulating air from the room to pass the heat exchanger and further to mix with the fresh supply air.
- In an embodiment of the invention, the mixing chamber comprises an inclined side wall, which wall is opposite to the vertical wall between the mixing chamber and the supply air chamber.
- In an embodiment of the invention, the edge of the mixing chamber floor is folded into the mixing air chamber between the inclined side wall and the heat exchanger so that the angle (α) between the folded section and the horizontal floor section is less than 90 degrees.
- In an embodiment of the invention, the channel is formed between the inclined side wall and the folded edge of the mixing chamber floor.
- In an embodiment of the invention, the folded edge of the mixing chamber floor comprises a rotating damper to adjust the size of the channel and the flow path of the mixed combined air in the channel, which damper is rotatable around its joint.
- In an embodiment of the invention, the mixing chamber floor is hingedly mounted to the end walls of the mixing chamber by hinge means.
- In an embodiment of the invention, the hinge means permit the mixing chamber floor to be rotated open so that the heat exchanger is exposed.
- In an embodiment of the invention, the ratio between height (H) and width (W) H/W < 0,2.
- In an embodiment of the invention, the device comprises a second similar mixing chamber, which is arranged parallel to the first mixing chamber and the supply air chamber so that the supply air chamber floor and the first and second mixing chamber floor form a visible plane surface.
- In an embodiment of the invention, the supply air chamber is arranged between the first mixing air chamber and the second mixing chamber.
- In an embodiment of the invention, the device comprises a second similar supply air chamber, which is arranged parallel to the first mixing chamber, second mixing air chamber and the first supply air chamber so that the first supply air chamber floor and the first mixing chamber floor form a visible plane surface, and the second supply air chamber floor and the second mixing chamber floor form a visible plane surface.
- In an embodiment of the invention, the second supply air chamber is arranged between the first supply air chamber and the second mixing air chamber so that there is a gap between the first and second supply air chamber.
- It is to be understood that the aspects and embodiments of the invention described above may be used in any combination with each other. Several of the aspects and embodiments may be combined together to form a further embodiment of the invention.

FIG. 1 shows a supply air terminal device 1 comprising at least onesupply air chamber 2, at least onemixing air chamber 3 and a heat exchanger 4. As seen inFIG. 1 , thesupply air chamber 2 and themixing chamber 3 are arranged parallel to each other so that the supplyair chamber floor 6 and themixing chamber floor 7 form a visible plane surface. The supply air terminal device 1 is elongated, but the height (H) and width (W) of the supply air terminal device 1 may vary. The ratio H/W between height (H) and width (W) of the supply air terminal device 1 is, however, smaller than 0,2. - Fresh air is supplied into the supply air chamber via a
fresh air inlet 15, and from thesupply air chamber 2, the fresh supply air is conducted into the mixing chamber through anozzle 5. Thenozzle 5 is located in the upper section of thevertical wall 11, which separates thesupply air chamber 2 and themixing chamber 3. There can be more than onenozzle 5, which conduct the fresh supply air into themixing chamber 3 and they all are located in the upper section of thevertical wall 5. - The heat exchanger 4 is located in the
mixing chamber 3 in proximity to themixing chamber floor 7, and is mounted to theend walls 13 of themixing chamber 3. The freshsupply air flow 16 is blown into themixing chamber 3 in horizontal direction above the heat exchanger 4. The mixing chamber floor comprises plurality ofholes 14, through which the circulated air from a room is conducted into themixing chamber 3. The freshsupply air flow 16 induces the circulating air from the room to pass theheat exchanger 3 into themixing chamber 3, and further to mix with the fresh supply air. The combined air flow is blown to the room via a channel 8. InFIG. 1 , the channel 8 is formed between an inclined side wall 9 of themixing chamber 3 and a foldededge 12 of themixing chamber floor 7. The inclined side wall 9 is opposite to thevertical wall 11. -
FIG. 2 is an axonometric view of the supply air terminal device. The mixing chamber floor is hingedly mounted to bothend walls 13 of themixing chamber 3 by hinge means 17. As shown inFIG. 2 , the hinge means 17 permit themixing chamber floor 7 to be rotated open, and to expose the heat exchanger for example maintaining purposes. -
FIG. 3 is a detailed cross-sectional view of the foldededge 12 of the mixingchamber floor 7. As seen inFIG. 3 , the edge of the mixingchamber floor 7 is folded into the mixingchamber 3 between the inclined side wall 9 and the heat exchanger 4 (not shown inFIG. 3 ). The angle α between the foldededge 12 and the mixing chamber floor is less than 90 degrees. - The folded edge comprises a
rotating damper 10, which is an elongated plate. Thedamper 10 adjusts the size of the channel 8 by rotating around its joint 22. When the damper is not in use (closed), the plate is parallel to the foldededge 12, and the flow path of the combined air is at its maximum. When thedamper 10 is fully open, the flow path of the combined air is at its minimum. There can be mid positions for thedamper 10 and by adjusting the position of thedamper 10, the air flow volume to the room can be adjusted. -
FIG. 4 is a cross-sectional view of the supply air terminal device, which is assembled to the ceiling. This embodiment comprises onesupply air chamber 3 and onemixing chamber 3. -
FIG. 5 shows an embodiment of an invention, wherein the supply air terminal device comprises asecond mixing chamber 18, which is similar to thefirst mixing chamber 3. Thesecond mixing chamber 18 is arranged parallel to thefirst mixing chamber 3 and thesupply air chamber 2 so that the supplyair chamber floor 6, the first mixingchamber floor 7 and the secondmixing chamber floor 20 form visible plane surface. In the embodiment shown inFIG. 4 , thesupply air chamber 2 is arranged between thefirst mixing chamber 3 and thesecond mixing chamber 18. -
FIG. 6 shows an embodiment of an invention, wherein the supply air terminal device comprises asecond mixing chamber 18 and a secondsupply air chamber 19. The firstsupply air chamber 2, the secondsupply air chamber 19, thefirst mixing chamber 3 and thesecond mixing chamber 18 are arranged in parallel to each other so that the first supplyair chamber floor 6 and the first mixingchamber floor 7 form a visible plane surface, and the second supplyair chamber floor 20 and the second mixingair chamber floor 21 form a visible plane surface. As seen inFIG. 6 the secondsupply air chamber 19 is arranged between the firstsupply air chamber 2 and thesecond mixing chamber 18. In the embodiment shown inFIG. 6 , there is agap 22 between the firstsupply air chamber 2 and the secondsupply air chamber 19. For example dividing wall can be assembled into the gap and, therefore, both divided rooms can have their own supply air terminal devices. - Although the invention has been the described in conjunction with a certain type of device, it should be understood that the invention is not limited to any certain type of device. While the present inventions have been described in connection with a number of exemplary embodiments, and implementations, the present inventions are not so limited, but rather cover various modifications, and equivalent arrangements, which fall within the purview of prospective claims.
Claims (16)
- A supply air terminal device (1) comprising
at least one supply air chamber (2) comprising a supply air chamber floor (6) and a fresh air inlet (15) arranged to receive fresh air;
at least one mixing chamber (3) comprising a mixing chamber floor (7) having plurality of holes (14) and end walls (13);
at least one nozzle (5) arranged to conduct the fresh supply air from the supply air chamber (2) into the mixing chamber (3), wherein the fresh supply air and a circulated air from the room are combined and a combined air flow is formed;
a heat exchanger (4) arranged within the mixing chamber (3) to pass the circulated air from the room into the mixing chamber (3) through the holes (14) located in the mixing chamber floor (7);
a channel (8) arranged to conduct the combined air flow from the mixing chamber (3) to the room,
characterized in that the supply air chamber (2) and the mixing chamber (3) are arranged parallel to each other so that the supply air chamber floor (6) and the mixing chamber floor (7) form a visible plane surface. - A supply air terminal device (1) according to claim 1, characterized in that the supply air chamber (2) and the mixing chamber (3) are separated by a vertical wall (11).
- A supply air terminal device (1) according to claim 2, characterized in that at least one nozzle (5) is arranged in the upper section of the vertical wall (11).
- A supply air terminal device (1) according to any of claims 1-3, characterized in that the heat exchanger (4) is located in proximity to the mixing chamber floor (7).
- A supply air terminal device (1) according to claim 4, characterized in that the fresh supply air from the nozzle (5) is blown in horizontal direction above the heat exchanger (4) so that the fresh supply air flow (16) induces the circulating air from the room to pass the heat exchanger (4) and further to mix with the fresh supply air.
- A supply air terminal device (1) according to any of claims 1-5, characterized in that the mixing chamber (3) comprises an inclined side wall (9), which wall is opposite to the vertical wall (11) between the mixing chamber and the supply air chamber.
- A supply air terminal device (1) according to claim 6, characterized in that the edge of the mixing chamber floor is folded into the mixing air chamber (3) between the inclined side wall (9) and the heat exchanger (4) so that the angle (α) between the folded section and the horizontal floor section is less than 90 degrees.
- A supply air terminal device (1) according to claim 7, characterized in that the channel (8) is formed between the inclined side wall (9) and the folded edge (12) of the mixing chamber floor (7).
- A supply air terminal device (1) according to claim 7 or 8, characterized in that the folded edge (12) of the mixing chamber floor (7) comprises a rotating damper (10) to adjust the size of the channel (8) and the flow path of the combined air in the channel (8), which damper is rotatable around its joint (22).
- A supply air terminal device (1) according to any of claims 1-9, characterized in that the mixing chamber floor (7) is hingedly mounted to the end walls (13) of the mixing chamber (3) by hinge means (17).
- A supply air terminal device (1) according to claim 10, characterized in that the hinge means (17) permit the mixing chamber floor (7) to be rotated open so that the heat exchanger (4) is exposed.
- A supply air terminal device (1) according to any of claims 1-11, characterized in that the ratio between height (H) and width (W) H/W < 0,2.
- A supply air terminal device (1) according to any of claims 1-12, characterized in that the device (1) comprises a second similar mixing chamber (18), which is arranged parallel to the first mixing chamber (13) and the supply air chamber (2) so that the supply air chamber floor (6), the first mixing chamber floor (7) and the second mixing chamber floor (20) form a visible plane surface.
- A supply air terminal device (1) according to claim 13, characterized in that the supply air chamber (2) is arranged between the first mixing chamber (3) and the second mixing air chamber (18).
- A supply air terminal device (1) according to claim 13 or 14, characterized in that the device comprises a second similar supply air chamber (19), which is arranged parallel to the first mixing chamber (3), the second mixing chamber (18) and the first supply air chamber (2) so that the first supply air chamber floor (6) and the first mixing chamber floor (7) form a visible plane surface, and the second supply air chamber floor (21) and the second mixing chamber floor (20) form a visible plane surface.
- A supply air terminal device (1) according to claim 15, characterized in that the second supply air chamber (19) is arranged between the first supply air chamber (2) and the second mixing chamber (18) so that there is a gap (22) between the first supply air chamber (2) and the second supply air chamber (21).
