Description

The field of the invention is that of display systems mounted on the head of the crew members of an aircraft. More specifically, the invention relates to the display and heading selection by this type of display system.
Helmet or head visualization systems have been used extensively for aeronautical applications for several decades. A head display system mainly comprises two subsets.
The first subset is a headset or a headband equipped with a viewing system projecting to the eye or the eyes of the user a collimated image superimposed on the outside. Headset means a head protection structure, said structure carrying a number of speech devices or visualization or detection. The English equivalent is "helmet". The term "headband" refers to a structure carrying a certain number of voice or visualization or detection devices and which does not necessarily provide a head protection function. The English equivalent is "headset". The system according to the invention is indifferently a helmet or a head support.
The second subassembly is a head posture detection system for locating in space, with respect to a known reference, generally related to an aircraft, the position and orientation of the helmet or the headband. The main function of the visualization system is to be able to present, superimposed on the external landscape, so-called "conformal" information, that is to say, displayed virtually in the exact direction that they would occupy in the external landscape. Thus, if the system displays a video image from a sensor and having a certain number of objects, the represented objects of this image are superimposed exactly on the objects present in the field. The same goes for synthetic representations of objects such as tracks, targets or directions. Currently, when the crew wishes to follow a heading related to an element of the outdoor scene, it must first determine the heading associated with the external element and then enter it in the avionics system, usually using a rotator mounted on a control station. The object of the invention is to simplify this operation by using the own resources of the helmet or head display systems and in particular to display compliant information.
More specifically, the subject of the invention is an aircraft head-display system comprising a head support, a display device, a posture detection of said head support, means for detecting the current heading of an aircraft and graphic generating means of said current heading, characterized in that the system comprises control means, display and caps selection, said means arranged so as:
- à afficher, dans le dispositif de visualisation, en réponse à une première commande, un second cap dit de consigne et un troisième cap dit « cap support » correspondant à la direction du support de tête dans un repère terrestre, ladite direction donnée par les informations issues de la détection de posture dudit support de tête et des moyens de détection du cap courant ;  to display, in the display device, in response to a first command, a second setpoint heading and a third heading called "support heading" corresponding to the direction of the head support in a terrestrial reference, said direction given by the information derived from the posture detection of said head support and the current heading detection means;
- à remplacer, en réponse à une seconde commande, ledit second cap par le dit troisième cap, ledit troisième cap devenant ainsi la nouvelle consigne de cap.  to replace, in response to a second command, said second heading by said third heading, said third heading thus becoming the new heading setpoint.
Advantageously, when the caps are located in the viewing field of the display device, the display of the heading value is carried out in a conformal position, that is to say in the exact direction corresponding to the heading direction.
Advantageously, when the caps are located outside the field of view of the display device, the display of the heading value is made at the edge of the field of the display device with an icon representative of the direction in which the heading is located.
The invention also relates to a method for displaying, managing and selecting the heading in an aircraft head-up display system, said display system comprising a head support, a display device, a posture detection of said head support. head, means for detecting the current heading of an aircraft and means for graphically generating said current heading, characterized in that the method comprises at least:
- une étape d'affichage, en réponse à une première commande, d'un second cap dit de consigne et un troisième cap dit « cap support » correspondant à la direction du support de tête dans un repère terrestre, ladite direction donnée par les informations issues de la détection de posture dudit support de tête et des moyens de détection du cap courant.  a step of displaying, in response to a first command, a second setpoint heading and a third heading called "support heading" corresponding to the direction of the head support in a terrestrial reference, said direction given by the information derived from the posture detection of said head support and the current heading detection means.
Avantageusement, le procédé comporte:  Advantageously, the method comprises:
- une étape de substitution, en réponse à une seconde commande, du second cap par le troisième cap, ledit troisième cap devenant ainsi la nouvelle consigne de cap.  a substitution step, in response to a second command, of the second heading by the third heading, said third heading thus becoming the new heading setpoint.
The invention will be better understood and other advantages will become apparent on reading the description which follows given by way of non-limiting example and by virtue of the appended figures among which:
Figures 1 to 4 show the various possible displays of heading in an aircraft head display system according to the invention.
Le système de visualisation de tête selon l'invention comporte :The head display system according to the invention comprises:
- un support de tête ou un casque équipé comprenant un ensemble optoélectronique d'affichage. Cet ensemble de visualisation peut être monoculaire ou binoculaire. Lorsque le support de tête ou le casque est porté par un utilisateur, cet ensemble donne une image collimatée issue d'un afficheur superposée au paysage extérieur par un combineur ou mélangeur optique ; a head support or an equipped helmet comprising an optoelectronic display assembly. This display assembly can be monocular or binocular. When the head support or the helmet is worn by a user, this set gives a collimated image from a display superimposed on the outside landscape by a combiner or optical mixer;
- un système de détection de posture du support de tête ou du casque permettant de déterminer la position du support ou du casque dans le repère de l'aéronef. Il existe différents systèmes de détection qui sont bien connus de l'homme du métier. On citera les systèmes à détection magnétique dans lesquels un récepteur mesure les composantes d'un champ électromagnétique connu et les systèmes à détection optique comportant un émetteur et un récepteur apte à déterminer la position et l'orientation de cet émetteur par reconnaissance de forme. La position de l'aéronef dans un repère terrestre est elle-même connue au moyen de différents capteurs comme la centrale inertielle de l'aéronef ; a posture detection system of the head support or the helmet making it possible to determine the position of the support or the helmet in the reference mark of the aircraft. There are different detection systems that are well known to those skilled in the art. Magnetic detection systems in which a receiver measures the components of a known electromagnetic field and optical detection systems comprising a transmitter and a receiver capable of determining the position and the orientation of this transmitter by shape recognition. The position of the aircraft in a terrestrial reference is itself known by means of various sensors such as the aircraft's inertial unit;
- un ensemble ou un calculateur électronique assurant la génération d'une symbologie conforme superposée sur le paysage extérieur par l'ensemble optoélectronique d'affichage. Cette symbologie comporte généralement les informations de base nécessaires au pilotage (indications de la vitesse, de l'altitude, de l'assiette, de l'horizon,...). Pour assurer cette fonction, les différents capteurs de l'aéronef fournissent au calculateur les informations nécessaires. Le système de détection d'orientation du casque lui donne les informations de position et d'orientation permettant d'afficher la symbologie de façon conforme, c'est-à-dire dans un repère terrestre indépendant des mouvements de l'aéronef et des mouvements du casque ;  a set or an electronic calculator ensuring the generation of a conforming symbology superimposed on the outside landscape by the optoelectronic display assembly. This symbology generally includes the basic information necessary for piloting (indications of speed, altitude, attitude, horizon, etc.). To ensure this function, the various sensors of the aircraft provide the computer with the necessary information. The helmet orientation detection system gives it position and orientation information for displaying the symbology in a compliant manner, ie in a landmark independent of aircraft movements and movements. helmet;
- Control means, generally one or more control stations for selecting, modifying or validating the information and data displayed by the display device. These control means may also be arranged on the control stick or be activated by a voice command.
The calculator also provides the specific functions of the invention related to the heading display. By way of nonlimiting examples, they are shown in FIGS. 1 to 4. These figures schematically represent the display of the heading in a helmet display device. In these figures, the rectangular periphery represents the limits of the field of the display device. The landscape P is represented symbolically by ridge lines in these figures. For the sake of clarity, all the symbology unrelated to the display of the caps has been removed from the figures.
In FIG. 1, the system only displays in the center and at the top of the field of view the current heading C1, that is to say the actual one followed by the aircraft at a time t. In this figure 1, the displayed value of the cap C1 is "266". All displayed values are in degrees.
In FIG. 2, the pilot has validated the heading display function according to the invention. The system then displays the setpoint C2. In this FIG. 1, the displayed value of heading C2 is "260". It also displays a third cap C3 called "cap support" corresponding to the direction of the head support in a landmark. The value of heading C3 is given by the information derived from the posture detection of said head support and the current heading detection means. The displayed value of heading C3 is "271". The system also displays a first vertical bar Ε½ whose bearing intersects the exact direction of the setpoint heading C2 and a second vertical bar B C 3 whose bearing intersects the exact direction of the cap C3. This second bar is, by nature, disposed in the center of the field of the display device and remains fixed. These bars are placed in the correct position. They have different graphic representations in order to differentiate them. In the figures, the first bar is represented by a continuous line and the second bar by a dashed line. Of course, it is possible to play on other parameters like the length, the thickness or the color of the bars.
Figure 3 shows the evolution of the symbology of the caps when the pilot turns his head to designate another direction. The value of C2 setpoint does not change. It remains at the value of "260". On the other hand, if this heading leaves the field of view, its value remains indicated in the field of the visualization device, but its representation bar B C 2 which was in conformal position disappears. It is replaced by an icon that indicates that the setpoint is out of the field of view. In Figure 3, for example, this icon is a chevron whose tip is turned towards the direction of the setpoint. The value of heading C3 that depends on the posture of the helmet changes. It goes to the value "302", the pilot having turned his head, in this example, by 31 degrees. Of course, the second vertical bar B C 3 remains fixed in the reference of the helmet visual. The pilot can, at any moment, validate the direction of the support heading which then becomes the new setpoint heading. Thus, in FIG. 4, the pilot validated the support heading C3 of FIG. 3, the value of which was "302". The new setpoint value C2 is now "302". At the time of validation, the two vertical bars B C 2 and B C 3, indicating caps C2 and C3 are combined as shown in FIG. 4.
In the various figures, the value of the current heading C1 remained unchanged, indicating that the aircraft did not change direction while the pilot turned his head. When the user validates the new setpoint, the heading associated with the direction of the head at the time of validation is the new course taken into account by the navigation system of the aircraft. If the autopilot is engaged, the new heading is the one followed by the aircraft, if the autopilot is not engaged, the pilot manually follows the new course indicated in the display device.
