Abstract

The present invention relates to a laundry treatment machine (1) comprising a tub (3) enclosing a drum (2), in which the laundry is to be placed and an air circulation duct (4) by means of which circulation of the processing air is provided in order for effecting drying of the laundry in the drum (2), the laundry treatment machine (1) further comprising a condenser (6) having a main body connectable with a condenser inlet tube wherein the condenser's (6) main body is fixedly connectable with the condenser inlet tube by means of a inlet tube adaptor means (7). The condenser's (6) main body comprises at least one screw boss (9) into which a screw (12) is insertable and the inlet tube adaptor means (7) comprises at least one screw retaining means (10) gripping a screw's (12) shaft inserted into the screw boss (9), the head portion (14) of the screw (12) pressing on the screw retaining means (10).

Description

    CONDENSER UNIT HAVING A COMBINED TIGHT FIT AND MECHANICAL FASTENER CONNECTION
  • The present invention pertains to a laundry treatment machine having a condenser unit, said condenser unit having a combined tight fit and mechanical fastener connection.
    A conventional clothes dryer having a condenser is a machine in the form of a tumble clothes dryer without an external vent. In a vented clothes dryer, air is typically drawn from the surrounding area, heated and blown through the clothes as the drum is rotated. Hot air then evaporates water in the fabrics, and the moisture-laden air is exhausted through a vent duct. In a drying machine with a condenser, on the other hand, air within the drum is heated, blown through the tumbling clothes, and then the moisture-laden air is passed through a heat exchanger, where the water recondenses. The same dry air is then reheated and the cycle is repeated.
  • The second loop in a drying machine with a condenser consists of either air or water. Some condenser dryer models are air-cooled, and use the ambient room air in this effect, by blowing it across the heat exchanger. The condensed water can be pumped away to a drain line. In combined washer/dryers, the ventless condenser system is also commonly used, but in these cases the condensers are water-cooled.
  • A prior art publication in the technical field of the present invention may be referred to as WO2013182403 among others, the document disclosing a laundry dryer comprising a body, a drum wherein the laundry is placed, a drying duct wherein the processing air is circulated in order to dry the laundry, a drying fan which circulates the processing air in the drying duct, a heater which heats the processing air, a condenser which dehumidifies the processing air, a cooling fan which cools the condenser and an outside air duct which directs the cooling air sucked from the outside environment by the cooling fan onto the condenser.
  • The present invention provides an arrangement in relation to the laundry treatment machine by which the condenser can be connected to the condenser inlet tube in a more secure manner, as defined by the characterizing features in Claim 1.
  • Primary object of the present invention is hence to provide a laundry treatment machine having a condenser whose connection with the condenser inlet tube is mechanically reliable to withstand vibrational effects capable of breaking the connection apart during prolonged use.
  • The present invention proposes a laundry treatment machine comprising a condenser having a main body connected to an inlet tube adaptor means. A screw boss of the condenser, into which a screw is insertable, and a screw retaining means of the inlet tube adaptor means, gripping a screw’s shaft while the head portion of the screw presses on the screw retaining means, provides an inter-engaging connection. The screw retaining means are sandwiched between the head portions of the screws and the screw bosses.
  • The condenser comprises two lateral screw bosses and the inlet tube adaptor means has a pair of screw retaining means at each lateral surface, extending along the upper and lower ends of the screw bosses.
  • A screw retaining means has two retaining arms gripping one of two end portions of a screw shaft while at the same time restricting a screw boss in a contact relationship from above or below.
  • The screw bosses extend parallel to the lateral surfaces of the condenser body so that a maintenance operator can easily reach to the same.
  • The inlet tube adaptor means comprises intermediate protrusions reaching behind the back of a screw boss so that the condenser and the inlet tube adaptor means are interlocked and cannot be separated from each other by vibrational forces.
  • Accompanying drawings are given solely for the purpose of exemplifying a laundry treatment machine condenser connection structure, whose advantages over prior art were outlined above and will be explained in brief hereinafter.
  • The drawings are not meant to delimit the scope of protection as identified in the claims nor should they be referred to alone in an effort to interpret the scope identified in said claims without recourse to the technical disclosure in the description of the present invention.
  • Fig. 1 demonstrates a general cross-sectional schematic view of the laundry treatment machine according to the present invention.
  • Fig. 2a demonstrates a side view of the condenser connected with the inlet tube adaptor means according to the present invention. Fig. 2b demonstrates a general perspective view of the condenser connected with the inlet tube adaptor means according to the present invention.

  • The present invention relates to a laundry treatment machine (1) comprising a tub (3) enclosing a drum (2), in which the laundry is to be placed and an air circulation duct (4) by means of which circulation of the processing air is provided in order for effecting drying of the laundry in said drum (2).
  • The drying process taking place subsequent to the washing process, a closed cycle fan conventionally provides the circulation of the processing air such that the processing air is condensed by a condenser (6). The cooling air may be obtained from an outer air duct (5) by means of an open cycle fan. The cooling air may be then passed onto the condenser (6) in order to provide the cooling of the same. A heater placed in the air circulation duct (4) provides the dehumidified processing air coming from the condenser (6) to be heated and sent onto the laundry.
  • Along at least one drying channel through the condenser (6), flows the processing air coming from the air circulation duct (4) by means of said closed-cycle fan and at least one cooling channel, also passing through the condenser (6) draws heat from the drying channels. The drying channels and the cooling channels are disposed in the condenser’s (6) main housing in between a condenser inlet tube and a condenser outlet tube.
  • According to the present invention, an inlet tube adaptor means (7) is provided between the condenser (6) and the condenser inlet tube, the inlet tube adaptor means (7) ensuring a mechanically more reliable as well as easily fitted connection thereinbetween. The condenser inlet tube and the inlet tube adaptor means (7) are conventionally connected to each other by vibration welding.
  • In accordance with the invention, the condenser (6) comprises two lateral screw bosses (9) disposed at one end of the longitudinal body to be connected with the inlet tube adaptor means (7). The condenser (6) has a longitudinal body with a generally rectangular cross-section, shorter edges of the rectangular cross-section body forming the two lateral surfaces (8) of the condenser (6).
  • The lateral screw bosses (9) are oriented in the manner to be extending substantially parallel to the lateral surfaces (8) of the condenser (6) body such that screws (12) can be inserted and fitted into the screw bosses (9) through an axis perpendicular to the top surface of the condenser (6) body. This configuration provides that a maintenance or repair service can be performed in a more practical manner as the screw bosses (9) can be easily accessed and a staff member can easily get to the screws (12) from above the condenser (6) top surface.
  • The screw bosses (9) at each lateral side are arranged such that they provide a tight fit connection with the inlet tube adaptor means (7), the latter also having a generally rectangular cross-sectional body corresponding to the condenser (6). The inlet tube adaptor means (7) has a pair of reciprocating screw retaining means (10) at each side in order for gripping end portions of the longitudinal shaft of a screw (12) inserted into the screw bosses (9). When a screw (12) is driven through the screw boss (9), a respective screw retaining means (10) having two retaining arms (11) extending parallel to the surface normal of the inlet tube adaptor means (7), centers and restricts a given screw boss (9) in a contact relationship from above and below, while at the same time retaining the respective screw (12) in position with the two retaining arms (11) at both sides of the screw shaft (13). In other words, while vibrational forces effective during operation of the laundry treatment machine (1), work to deviate the axis of the screws (12) in the screw bosses (9) so as to remove a given screw (12) and detach the condenser (6) from the inlet tube adaptor means (7), two pairs of retaining arms (11) at the upper and lower part of the screw shaft (13) provides that the screw (12) secures the inlet tube adaptor means (7) to the condenser (6) with the head portion (14) thereof pressing on the retaining arms (11).
  • In accordance with the present invention, a tight fit connection between the condenser (6) and the inlet tube adaptor means (7) is achieved by means of intermediate protrusions (15) of the inlet tube adaptor means (7), the intermediate protrusions (15) extending behind the screw bosses (9) while securing the two parts to each other, preventing the inlet tube adaptor means (7) from displacing in an unengaging direction. In other words, while the intermediate protrusions (15) reach behind the back of the screw bosses (9) during installation of the respective parts, the position of the screw bosses (9) relative to the inlet tube adaptor means (7) is locked by the intermediate protrusions (15). The intermediate protrusions (15) accordingly act as locking indentations. The inlet tube adaptor means (7) further has centering protrusions (17) over which the screw bosses (9) can be slid along central grooves (16) thereof.
  • In accordance with the invention, the screws (12) are fitted subsequent to interlocking of the condenser (6) with the inlet tube adaptor means (7) as explained above. The provision of interlocking without a fastener element at the initial stage of the installation is advantageous in that the installation can be completed by a reduced number of operators.
  • In a nutshell, the present invention proposes a laundry treatment machine (1) comprising a tub (3) enclosing a drum (2), in which the laundry is to be placed and an air circulation duct (4) by means of which circulation of the processing air is provided in order for effecting drying of the laundry in the drum (2), the laundry treatment machine (1) further comprising a condenser (6) having a main body connectable with a condenser inlet tube.
  • The condenser’s (6) main body is fixedly connectable with the condenser inlet tube by means of an inlet tube adaptor means (7). The condenser’s (6) main body comprises at least one screw boss (9) into which a screw (12) is insertable. Said inlet tube adaptor means (7) comprises at least one screw retaining means (10) gripping a screw’s (12) shaft inserted into the screw boss (9), the head portion (14) of the screw (12) pressing on the screw retaining means (10).
  • In a further embodiment of the present invention, the condenser (6) comprises two lateral screw bosses (9) at two lateral surfaces (8) thereof and disposed at one end of the longitudinal body to be connected with the inlet tube adaptor means (7).
  • In a still further embodiment of the present invention, the inlet tube adaptor means (7) has a pair of screw retaining means (10) at each lateral surface thereof.
  • In a yet still further embodiment of the present invention, the screw retaining means (10) is designed to grip one of the two end portions of a screw (12) shaft being inserted into the screw bosses (9).
  • In a yet still further embodiment of the present invention, the screw retaining means (10) is designed to restrict a screw boss (9) in a contact relationship from above or below.
  • In a yet still further embodiment of the present invention, the screw bosses (9) are oriented in the manner to be extending substantially parallel to said lateral surfaces (8) of the condenser (6) body.
  • In a yet still further embodiment of the present invention, the screw retaining means (10) has two retaining arms (11) extending parallel to the surface normal of the inlet tube adaptor means (7).
  • In a yet still further embodiment of the present invention, the retaining arms (11) retain a screw (12) in position, extending at opposite radial sides of the screw shaft (13).
  • In a yet still further embodiment of the present invention, the inlet tube adaptor means (7) comprises intermediate protrusions (15) reaching behind the back of the screw boss (9) such that position of the screw boss (9) relative to the inlet tube adaptor means (7) is lockable.
  • In a yet still further embodiment of the present invention, the inlet tube adaptor means (7) has centering protrusions (17) for positioning the inlet tube adaptor means (7) relative to the screw bosses (9).
  • According to the invention, the condenser (6) is fixedly secured to the inlet tube adaptor means (7) with a combined tight fit and mechanical fastener connection, therefore establishing a reliable leak-proof mechanical connection that can withstand vibrational forces in case of prolonged use.

Claims (10)

  1. A laundry treatment machine (1) comprising a tub (3) enclosing a drum (2), in which the laundry is to be placed and an air circulation duct (4) by means of which circulation of the processing air is provided in order for effecting drying of the laundry in the drum (2), the laundry treatment machine (1) further comprising a condenser (6) having a main body connectable with a condenser inlet tube characterized in that
    the condenser’s (6) main body is fixedly connectable with the condenser inlet tube by means of an inlet tube adaptor means (7),
    the condenser’s (6) main body comprises at least one screw boss (9) into which a screw (12) is insertable,
    the inlet tube adaptor means (7) comprises at least one screw retaining means (10) gripping a screw’s (12) shaft inserted into the screw boss (9), the head portion (14) of the screw (12) pressing on the screw retaining means (10).
  2. A laundry treatment machine (1) as in Claim 1, characterized in that the condenser (6) comprises two lateral screw bosses (9) at two lateral surfaces (8) thereof and disposed at one end of the longitudinal body to be connected with the inlet tube adaptor means (7).
  3. A laundry treatment machine (1) as in Claim 1 or 2, characterized in that the inlet tube adaptor means (7) has a pair of screw retaining means (10) at each lateral surface thereof.
  4. A laundry treatment machine (1) as in Claim 1, 2 or 3, characterized in that the screw retaining means (10) is designed to grip one of two end portions of a screw (12) shaft being inserted into the screw boss (9).
  5. A laundry treatment machine (1) as in Claim 1, 2 or 3, characterized in that the screw retaining means (10) is designed to restrict a screw boss (9) in a contact relationship from above or below.
  6. A laundry treatment machine (1) as in Claim 2, 3, 4 or 5, characterized in that the screw bosses (9) are oriented in the manner to be extending substantially parallel to the lateral surfaces (8) of the condenser (6) body.
  7. A laundry treatment machine (1) as in Claim 4, characterized in that the screw retaining means (10) has two retaining arms (11) extending parallel to the surface normal of the inlet tube adaptor means (7).
  8. A laundry treatment machine (1) as in Claim 7, characterized in that the retaining arms (11) retain a screw (12) in position, extending at opposite radial sides of the screw shaft (13).
  9. A laundry treatment machine (1) as in any previous Claims, characterized in that the inlet tube adaptor means (7) comprises intermediate protrusions (15) reaching behind the back of the screw boss (9) such that position of the screw boss (9) relative to the inlet tube adaptor means (7) is lockable.
  10. A laundry treatment machine (1) as in any previous Claims, characterized in that the inlet tube adaptor means (7) has centering protrusions (17) for positioning the inlet tube adaptor means (7) relative to a screw boss (9).
