Description
- The present invention relates to child motion apparatuses.
- Infant swing apparatuses have become common household items. An infant swing has the primary function of applying a gentle, swinging or gliding motion to soothe a child, while providing a safe and comfortable seating area. However, one main drawback of the current infant swings is that they are generally built with large standing frames and swing arms that are complicated to fold. This makes travelling with an infant swing all the more difficult.
DocumentUS 5 547 425 A relates to a playground apparatus including a base, a stanchion, and a pivotally mounted balance beam for movement up and down. A seat assembly is located at a first end of the balance beam and a structure for counterbalancing is located at a second end of the balance beam. - Therefore, there is a need for an apparatus for soothing a child that is more convenient in use, and can address at least the foregoing issues.
- The present application describes a child motion apparatus that can be conveniently folded and unfolded, and can sway sideways to help soothe a child. In one embodiment, the child motion apparatus includes a base having an upper surface, an upright column connected with the base; protruding upward through the upper surface and disposed below the seat, a seat pivotally supported by the upright column above the upper surface of the base, the seat being disposed at a top of the upright column and being rotatable relative the base about a rotation axis defined by the upright column, and an anchor movably assembled with either of the seat and the base at a position distant from the upright column. The anchor has a locking position where the anchor extends across a gap between a bottom of the seat and the upper surface of the base and blocks rotation of the seat about the rotation axis, and an unlocking position allowing rotation of the seat about the rotation axis.

FIG. 1 is a perspective view illustrating an embodiment of achild motion apparatus 100, andFIGS. 2-4 are various perspective views illustrating a frame construction of thechild motion apparatus 100. Referring toFIGS. 1-4 , thechild motion apparatus 100 can include asupport base 102, aseat 104 arranged above thebase 102, and anupright column 106 connected with thebase 102. Thebase 102 can have anupper surface 103 exposed outward, and theupright column 106 can protrude upward through theupper surface 103. Theupright column 106 is disposed below theseat 104, and pivotally supports theseat 104 above thebase 102. Theupright column 106 can define a pivot axis Z about which theseat 104 can rotate and oscillate to the left and right side in an alternated manner for soothing a child. - The
seat 104 can have a rear 104A, afront 104B, and a longitudinal axis S extending centrally from the rear 104A to thefront 104B. Theseat 104 can include a rigid frame 108 (better shown inFIGS. 2-4 ), a fabric material 110 (shown inFIG. 1 ) secured with therigid frame 108 to define a sitting area for receiving a child, and acarrying handle 111 connected with therigid frame 108. As better shown inFIGS. 2-4 , therigid frame 108 can include a surroundingframe 112 to which is fixedly connected thefabric material 110, abottom frame segment 114 and aseatback frame segment 116. - The surrounding
frame 112 can surround a central region where thefabric material 110 can be stretched to form a seating support for receiving a child. The surroundingframe 112 can include two surroundingframe portions pivot joints 122 defining a same pivot axis P1. Each of the two surroundingframe portions child motion apparatus 100 is deployed, the surroundingframe portion 118 can extend downward from the pivot axis P1, and the surroundingframe portion 120 can extend upward from the pivot axis P1. The twopivot joints 122 can respectively connect the two surroundingframe portions carrying handle 111 can have an arc shape having two sides respectively connected pivotally with the surroundingframe portion 120 about the pivot axis P1 via twopivot joints 123. - The
bottom frame segment 114 can have a generally elongated shape, and can extend centrally along the longitudinal axis S from the rear 104A to thefront 104B of theseat 104. Thebottom frame segment 114 has a rear and afront end seat 104, and is connected with a top of theupright column 106 at a location between therear end 114A and thefront end 114B. Theseatback frame segment 116 can have a generally elongated shape, and can be disposed behind the portion of thefabric material 110 that forms the seat support, i.e., generally behind a back of a child received in theseat 104. Theseatback frame segment 116 can rise upward from thebottom frame segment 114, and has alower end 116A and anupper end 116B. Thefront end 114B of thebottom frame segment 114 can be pivotally connected with a lower region of the surroundingframe portion 118 via ahinge 124 defining a pivot axis P2. Therear end 114A of thebottom frame segment 114 can be pivotally connected with thelower end 116A of theseatback frame segment 116 via ahinge 126 defining a pivot axis P3. Theupper end 116B of theseatback frame segment 116 can be pivotally connected with a top of the surroundingframe portion 120 via apivot connection 127 defining a pivot axis P4. The pivot axes P1, P2, P3 and P4 are parallel to one another and extend transversally relative to the seat 104 (i.e., from a left to a right side thereof). - Referring to
FIGS. 2-4 , thepivot connection 127 can include ahousing 129 that is pivotally connected with the surroundingframe portion 120 and is further slidably connected with theupper end 116B of theseatback frame segment 116. More specifically, theupper end 116B of theseatback frame segment 116 can be assembled for sliding movement through an interior of thehousing 129. Thehousing 129 can further be assembled with one or more latches (not shown) for preventing an axial sliding displacement of theseatback frame segment 116 relative to thehousing 129, and arelease button 130 operable to drive unlocking displacement of the latches for allowing sliding displacement of theseatback frame segment 116 relative to thehousing 129. Sliding displacement of theseatback frame segment 116 relative to thehousing 129 may be allowed for facilitating rotation of theseatback frame segment 116 about the pivot axis P3 relative to thebottom frame segment 114. - Referring again to
FIGS. 2-4 , aseat pan 132 can be affixed with thebottom frame segment 114 at a location above the top of theupright column 106. Theseat pan 132 can be formed with twosidewalls 132A rising upward respectively at the left and right sides thereof. Moreover, two lateral limitingpads 134 made of a rigid material can be respectively affixed with a left and a right side of the surroundingframe portion 120. The laterallimiting pads 134 can be disposed near a shoulder height of a child, and can symmetrically project downward and from the left and right sides of the surroundingframe portion 120 toward a central region thereof. Thesidewalls 132A of theseat pan 132 can help to center the hips and legs of a child, and the laterallimiting pads 134 can help to center the chest and head of the child. With a child placed at a centered position on theseat 104, a more balanced sway motion of theseat 104 can be obtained about a center axis of thebase 102. - The frame structure of the
seat 104 can be unfolded for use and collapsed for convenient storage.FIGS. 1-4 show theseat 104 in the unfolded state, andFIG. 5 is a schematic view illustrating theseat 104 in an unfolded or collapsed state. When theseat 104 is deployed for use as shown inFIGS. 2-4 , the surroundingframe portions seat 104 is in the collapsed state as shown inFIG. 5 , the surroundingframe portion 120 and the carryinghandle 111 can respectively fold over the surroundingframe portion 118. Moreover, the pivot joints 122 and 123 can include latches operable to rotationally lock thesurrounding frame 112 and the carryinghandle 111. - In conjunction with
FIGS. 2-4 ,FIG. 6 is a cross-sectional view illustrating exemplary construction of the pivot joints 122 and 123 that are respectively arranged at each of the left and right side of theseat 104, andFIG. 7 is a schematic view illustrating further construction details of thepivot joint 122. The pivot joints 122 and 123 at each of the left and right side of theseat 104 can have a same construction. Referring toFIGS. 2-4 ,6 and7 , the pivot joint 122 can include twocoupling shells latch 140, aspring 142 and arelease actuator 144. Each of thecoupling shells coupling shell 136 can be affixed with an end of the surroundingframe portion 118, and thecoupling shell 138 can be affixed with an end of the surroundingframe portion 120. Thecoupling shell 136 can be pivotally connected with a first side of thecoupling shell 138 about the pivot axis P1. The assembly of thecoupling shells inner cavity 139 in which thelatch 140 is movably assembled. For clarity, the representation of thecoupling shell 136 affixed with the surroundingframe portion 118 is omitted inFIG. 7 to better show the placement and interaction of thelatch 140 with respect to thecoupling shell 138. - The
latch 140 can have a disk shape substantially centered on the pivot axis P1. Thelatch 140 can be formed as one integral part having twoopposite sides central hole 146 can be formed through thelatch 140 and opened on the twoopposite sides latch 140 can include a plurality of teeth protruding radially outward from the round shape and distributed around the pivot axis P1, e.g.,teeth teeth teeth latch 140 can further have achannel 148 on theside 140A that extends annularly around the pivot axis P1. Thechannel 148 can exemplary have a generally V-shaped cross-section, and can define tworamp surfaces 148A. - Referring to
FIGS. 6 and7 , an interior of thecoupling shell 138 can be affixed with a protrudingaxle 150 centered on the pivot axis P1. Thelatch 140 can be assembled in theinner cavity 139 with theaxle 150 extending through thecentral hole 146 of thelatch 140 for movably supporting thelatch 140. Thelatch 140 can thereby slide in theinner cavity 139 along the pivot axis P1 between a locking state for locking the surroundingframe portions frame portions latch 140 can be assembled with thecoupling shell 136 such that both thelatch 140 and thecoupling shell 136 are rotationally locked with each other (i.e., they cannot rotate relative to each other). When thelatch 140 is in the unlocking state, thecoupling shell 138 thus can rotate about the pivot axis P1 relative to thecoupling shell 136 and thelatch 140. - As shown in
FIG. 7 , the interior of thecoupling shell 138 can further include a plurality of indentations corresponding to the teeth of thelatch 140 distributed around the pivot axis P1, e.g.,indentations indentations indentations latch 140 can slide along the pivot axis P1 to engage and disengage theteeth indentations teeth latch 140 can respectively engage with theindentations FIG. 7 ) for locking the two surroundingframe portions teeth latch 140 can be respectively positioned in theindentations FIG. 10 ) when the two surroundingframe portions - When they are engaged by the teeth of the
latch 140, theindentations frame portion 120 relative to the surroundingframe portion 118 only in a folding direction, while allowing rotation in the unfolding direction. To this purpose, each of theindentations indentations latch 140 can be stopped for preventing rotation in the folding direction. Moreover, one or more of theindentations indentations latch 140 can freely slide in contact with the ramps during unfolding rotation of the surroundingframe portion 120 relative to the surroundingframe portion 118. Thecoupling shells frame portions - Referring to
FIG. 6 , thespring 142 is assembled in theinner cavity 139, and can have two opposite ends respectively connected with theside 140B of thelatch 140 and an inner sidewall of thecoupling shell 136. Thespring 142 can bias thelatch 140 toward the locking state for engagement with thecoupling shell 138. - The
release actuator 144 is operable to cause unlocking displacement of thelatch 140 against the biasing action of thespring 142. Therelease actuator 144 can include aring 144A and anactuating portion 144B affixed with each other, the actuatingportion 144B extending at a side of thering 144A. In one embodiment, therelease actuator 144 including thering 144A and theactuating portion 144B may be formed as an integral part. Therelease actuator 144 can be assembled with thecoupling shell 138 for sliding relative to thecoupling shell 138 and the surroundingframe portion 120 along a plane substantially perpendicular to the pivot axis P1. Once therelease actuator 144 is assembled with thecoupling shell 138, theaxle 150 passes through thering 144A, the actuatingportion 144B extends outward through an opening of thecoupling shell 138, and thering 144A is disposed between theside 140A of thelatch 140 and thecoupling shell 138. Thering 144A of therelease actuator 144 can be in sliding contact with thechannel 148 on theside 140A of thelatch 140. - In conjunction with
FIGS. 6 and7 ,FIG. 8 is a schematic view illustrating the twopivot joints FIGS. 2-4 and6 , suppose that the surroundingframe portions portion 144B of therelease actuator 144 can be exposed outward at a lower side of the joint 122. Moreover, thelatch 140 can engage with thecoupling shell 138 as schematically illustrated inFIGS. 6 and7 . - Referring to
FIG. 8 , for unlocking the surroundingframe portions portion 144B can be depressed in the direction G so as to cause a sliding displacement of therelease actuator 144 perpendicular to the pivot axis P1. Owing to the siding contact between thering 144A of therelease actuator 144 and the ramp surfaces 148A of thechannel 148, this sliding displacement of therelease actuator 144 can push thelatch 140 to slide along the pivot axis P1 and disengage from thecoupling shell 138. The surroundingframe portion 120 can be thereby unlocked for folding rotation about the pivot axis P1 relative to the surroundingframe portion 118. Therelease actuator 144 and the surroundingframe portion 120 are rotatable in unison relative to the surroundingframe portion 118 and thelatch 140 during the folding rotation. -
FIG. 10 is a schematic view illustrating an interior of the pivot joint 122 when the surroundingframe portions frame portion 120 can lie generally parallel to the surroundingframe portion 118. Moreover, theteeth latch 140 can respectively engage in theindentations frame portions frame portion 120 can be rotated relative to the surroundingframe portion 118 until the unfolded state is reached, without the need of operating therelease actuator 144. - In certain situations, it may happen that a caregiver mistakenly thinks that the surrounding
frame portions latch 140 has not yet engaged thecoupling shell 138. In order to prevent accidental folding of thesurrounding frame 112 away from the unfolded state, the pivot joint 122 can further include a safety feature configured to stop the surroundingframe portion 120 at an intermediate angular position relatively closer to the unfolded state than the folded state. Referring toFIGS. 7 ,10 and11 , this safety feature can include at least oneadditional indentation 159 provided in thecoupling shell 138. Theindentation 159 can be defined at least partially between astop sidewall 159A and aramp 159B. Theindentation 159 is disposed along a radial direction with respect to the pivot axis P1 that is different from those of theindentations indentations - The
indentation 159 can correspond to an intermediate angular position of the surroundingframe portion 120 relative to the surroundingframe portion 118 between the unfolded and folded state, which is schematically shown inFIG. 11 . The angle A between the intermediate angular position of the surroundingframe portion 120 shown inFIG. 11 and the position of the surroundingframe portion 120 in the unfolded state as shown inFIG. 7 can be between about 35 degrees and about 45 degrees. When the surroundingframe portion 120 is located at the intermediate angular position shown inFIG. 11 , thetooth 147C of thelatch 140 can engage in theindentation 159 owing to the biasing action of thespring 142 applied on thelatch 140. While thetooth 147C is positioned in theindentation 159, the contact between thetooth 147C and thestop sidewall 159A can block rotation of the surroundingframe portion 120 toward the folded state. For further rotating thesurrounding frame portion 120 from the intermediate angular position to the folded state, therelease actuator 144 has to be operated as described previously to disengage thetooth 147C from theindentation 159. Thedisengaged tooth 147C then can travel past theindentation 159 as the surroundingframe portion 120 rotates past the intermediate angular position to the folded state. - Owing to the inclination of the
ramp 159B, unfolding rotation of the surroundingframe portion 120 past the position of theindentation 159 is allowed: thetooth 147C can be in sliding contact with theramp 159B while the surroundingframe portion 120 rotates relative to the surroundingframe portion 118 from the intermediate angular position toward the unfolded state. Theindentation 159 thus can effectively prevent accidental folding of thesurrounding frame 112, and allow normal unfolding operation. - Referring again to
FIGS. 6 and7 , the pivot joint 123 connecting the carryinghandle 111 with the surroundingframe portion 120 can include thecoupling shell 138, anothercoupling shell 160 affixed with an end of the carryinghandle 111, alatch 162, aspring 164 and arelease button 166. Thecoupling shell 160 is affixed with an end of the carryinghandle 111, and is further pivotally connected with a second side of the coupling shell 138 (i.e., opposite to that of the coupling shell 136) about the pivot axis P1. Thecoupling shell 138 is thereby sandwiched between thecoupling shells coupling shells inner cavity 167 in which are respectively assembled thelatch 162 and thespring 164. Thecoupling shell 160 and the second side of thecoupling shell 138 can be respectively provided with a plurality of inner teeth, i.e.,teeth 138A for thecoupling shell 138, andteeth 160A for thecoupling shell 160. - The
latch 162 can have a generallydisk shape 162A centered about the pivot axis P1, and can be provided with a plurality ofteeth 168 protruding radially outward from thedisk shape 162A. Moreover, thelatch 162 can further be affixed with anelongated segment 162B that extends axially along the pivot axis P1 from thedisk shape 162A and has a distal end formed with one ormore lips 169. In one embodiment, the latch 162 (including thedisk shape 162A,elongated segment 162B,teeth 168 and lips 169) may be integrally formed as a single part. Theelongated segment 162B can be formed as a hollow tube. - Referring to
FIG. 6 , the second side of thecoupling shell 138 can be affixed with a protrudingaxle 170 centered about the pivot axis P1. Thelatch 162 can be slidably assembled in theinner cavity 167 with theaxle 170 of thecoupling shell 138 extending through an interior of theelongated segment 162B of thelatch 162, and theelongated segment 162B extending axially along the pivot axis P1 through thering 144A of therelease actuator 144 and thecentral hole 146 of thelatch 140. In particular, theelongated segment 162B can extend past asurface 172 defined on theside 140B of thelatch 140 around thecentral hole 146, and thelips 169 can define asurface 174 facing thesurface 172 of thelatch 140. Thesurface 172 can be exemplary formed by a protruding rim of thecentral hole 146. During unlocking displacement of thelatch 140, thesurface 172 of thelatch 140 and thesurface 174 of thelatch 162 can interact with each other so as to cause concurrent unlocking of both thelatches - With the aforementioned assembly, the
latch 162 can slide in theinner cavity 167 along the pivot axis P1 between a locking state for rotationally locking the carryinghandle 111 with the surroundingframe portion 120, and an unlocking state for allowing rotation of the carryinghandle 111 about the pivot axis P1 relative to the surroundingframe portion 120. More specifically, when thelatch 162 is in the locking state, theteeth 168 of thelatch 162 can respectively engage with theteeth 138A of thecoupling shell 138 and theteeth 160A of thecoupling shell 160 to block rotation of the carryinghandle 111 about the pivot axis P1 relative to the surroundingframe portion 120. When thelatch 162 is slidably switched to the unlocking state, theteeth 168 of thelatch 162 can disengage from theteeth 160A of thecoupling shell 160 to allow rotation of the carryinghandle 111 about the pivot axis P1 relative to the surroundingframe portion 120. While it is in the unlocking state, thelatch 162 can be rotationally locked with thecoupling shell 138 and the surroundingframe portion 120, and rotationally decoupled from thecoupling shell 160 and carryinghandle 111. - The
spring 164 is assembled in theinner cavity 167, and can have two opposite ends respectively connected with thelatch 162 and an inner sidewall of thecoupling shell 138. Thespring 164 can bias thelatch 162 toward the locking state for engagement with thecoupling shell 160. - The
release button 166 is slidably assembled with thecoupling shell 160, and is connected with the latch 162 (e.g., therelease button 166 can have one ormore tongue 166A in contact with the latch 162). When it is depressed, therelease button 166 can slide along the pivot axis P1 and push thelatch 162 to slide along the pivot axis P1 in the same direction for disengaging from thecoupling shell 160, thereby unlocking the carryinghandle 111. Theunlocked coupling shell 160 and carryinghandle 111 then can rotate about the pivot axis P1 relative to thecoupling shell 138 and surroundingframe portion 120. - Exemplary interaction between the two
latches FIGS. 6 ,8 and9 . Referring toFIG. 6 , suppose that thechild motion apparatus 100 is in the unfolded state for use, and both thelatches surface 172 of thelatch 140 can be adjacent to (or slightly distant from) thesurface 174 of thelatch 162. - Referring to
FIG. 9 , in case a caregiver wants to adjust the carryinghandle 111 while the surroundingframe portions release button 166 can be depressed in the direction F to cause unlocking movement of thelatch 162 along the pivot axis P1. This unlocking movement of thelatch 162 moves thesurface 174 of thelatch 162 away from thesurface 172 of thelatch 140, and has no effect on thelatch 140 which can remain stationary in the locking state. The unlocked carrying handle 111 then can be pivotally adjusted about the pivot axis P1, while the surroundingframe portions - Referring to
FIG. 8 , when the caregiver wants to collapse the child motion apparatus, therelease actuator 144 can be depressed in the direction G. As a result, therelease actuator 144 slides perpendicular to the pivot axis P1, which can push thelatch 140 to slide along the pivot axis P1 and disengage from thecoupling shell 138 owing to the siding contact between thering 144A of therelease actuator 144 and theramp surface 148A of thechannel 148. This unlocking displacement of thelatch 140 causes thesurface 172 of thelatch 140 to contact and push against thesurface 174 of thelatch 162, so that thelatch 162 is also urged by thelatch 140 to slide along the pivot axis P1 in the same direction for unlocking the carryinghandle 111. The carryinghandle 111 can be accordingly unlocked without the need of pressing on therelease button 166, in parallel to the unlocking of the surroundingframe portion 120. The unlockedsurrounding frame portion 120 and carryinghandle 111 then can be rotated about the pivot axis P1 relative to the surroundingframe portion 118 to the folded state as shown inFIG. 5 . - With the construction described herein, the pivot joints 122 and 123 at each of the left and right sides of the
seat 104 thus can be unlocked in a concurrent manner for convenient folding operation of thesurrounding frame 112 and carryinghandle 111. - Referring again to
FIGS. 2-4 , the rotation axis Z defined by theupright column 106 can be substantially adjacent to the longitudinal axis S of theseat 104. Moreover, the rotation axis Z can be inclined toward a rear of theseat 104 by an angle relative to a vertical direction, such that theseat 104 is inclined rearward. As a result, a distance between theupper surface 103 of thebase 102 and a bottom of theseat 104 can be greater at the front 104B of theseat 104 than at the rear 104A of theseat 104. In one embodiment, the rearward inclination angle of the rotation axis Z relative to a vertical direction can be between about 0 and about 15 degrees, and more preferably about 10 degrees. Owing to the rearward inclination of theupright column 106, the sideways swaying motion performed by theseat 104 can also have a vertical component in addition to a horizontal component, which can make use of gravity action to help maintaining the oscillating movement of theseat 104. - In conjunction with
FIGS. 2-4 ,FIG. 12 is a schematic view illustrating an inner construction of thebase 102. Referring toFIGS. 2-4 and12 , the base 102 can have a rear 102A, a front 102B, and a longitudinal axis B extending centrally from the rear 102A to the front 102B and lying substantially adjacent to the rotation axis Z of theupright column 106. The base 102 can include ashell body 176 in which are arranged abase frame 178 and asupport frame 180. Theshell body 176 can have a bottom surface for providing a stable resting support on a floor, and an upper surface defining theupper surface 103 of thebase 102. Theupper surface 103 has anopening 103A (better shown inFIG. 1 ) through which theupright column 106 protrudes outward. - Referring to
FIG. 12 , thebase frame 178 can be affixed inside theshell body 176, and can be formed by a tubular assembly extending from a rear to a front of theshell body 176. Thebase frame 178 can form a reinforcing structure for thebase 102. - The
support frame 180 can be arranged inside theshell body 176, and can be movably connected to thebase frame 178 for up and down displacement below theupper surface 103 of thebase 102. In one embodiment, thesupport frame 180 can be pivotally connected with thebase frame 178 about a pivot axis P6 near the rear 102A of thebase 102. Thesupport frame 180 may be constructed as a unitary block of a generally U-shape including atransversal segment 180A and twoside segments 180B. The twoside segments 180B can be respectively connected with a left and a right side of thetransversal segment 180A, and can have respective distal ends pivotally connected with thebase frame 178 about the pivot axis P6. Thetransversal segment 180A can be provided withtongues 181 that can rest onabutments 183 assembled with theshell body 176. While thesupport frame 180 is shown as having a specific shape, it will be understood that thesupport frame 180 may also be formed with any shapes in general. - Referring to
FIG. 12 , theupright column 106 can be connected with thesupport frame 180. In one embodiment, theupright column 106 can include ashaft 182 affixed with thesupport frame 180, and asleeve 184 affixed with theseat 104. Theshaft 182 can be fixedly connected to a central region of thetransversal segment 180A, and can define the rotation axis Z of theseat 104. Thesleeve 184 can be affixed with thebottom frame segment 114 at a location between therear end 114A and thefront end 114B thereof (better shown inFIGS. 2-4 ). Theshaft 182 can be assembled through an interior of thesleeve 184, such that thesleeve 184 and theseat 104 are rotatable about the rotation axis Z relative to theshaft 182 and thesupport frame 180 of thebase 102. - A
bar segment 186 can be disposed in theshell body 176 between the twoside segments 180B of thesupport frame 180, and can be affixed with thesleeve 184 adjacent to the rotation axis Z. Since thesleeve 184 is affixed with theseat 104, the bar segment 86 is also affixed with theseat 104. Thebar segment 186 can extend centrally with respect to the seat 104 (i.e., substantially aligned with the longitudinal axis S of theseat 104 shown inFIG. 1 ) and along a radial direction from theupright column 106 toward the rear 104A of theseat 104. - Referring to
FIGS. 1 and12 , thechild motion apparatus 100 can further include a magnetic drive system operable to drive theseat 104 to sway sideways about the rotation axis Z defined by theupright column 106. The magnetic drive system can exemplary include two fixedmagnetic members shell body 176 at two sides of the longitudinal axis B of thebase 102, and anothermagnetic member 188C affixed with a distal end of thebar segment 186 distant from theupright column 106. In one embodiment, one or two of themagnetic members magnetic member 188C affixed with thebar segment 186 can be a permanent magnet. As theseat 104 sways sideways about the rotation axis Z, a magnetic force may be generated between themagnetic member 188C and any of the twomagnetic members seat 104. The swaying motion of theseat 104 can help soothing a child and substantially remain within the footprint of thebase 102, which can reduce the size of thechild motion apparatus 100. - When the swaying motion of the
seat 104 is not needed, it may be further desirable to have a lock mechanism for locking theseat 104 in a centered position relative to the base 102 (i.e., such that the two longitudinal axes S and B are vertically aligned with each other). For example, locking theseat 104 in a centered position relative to the base 102 can facilitate transportation of thechild motion apparatus 100. -
FIGS. 13 and14 are schematic views illustrating a lock mechanism provided in thechild motion apparatus 100 for blocking rotation of theseat 104 about the rotation axis Z. The lock mechanism can include ananchor 190 movably assembled with theseat 104. More specifically, theanchor 190 can be provided as a single part, and can be pivotally connected with thebottom frame segment 114 at a location easily accessible. For example, theanchor 190 can be placed at a location distant from theupright column 106 and adjacent to therear end 114A of thebottom frame segment 114. Theanchor 190 can be movable relative to theseat 104 between a locking position (as shown inFIG. 13 ) where theanchor 190 protrudes across the gap between the bottom of theseat 104 and theupper surface 103 of thebase 102, and an unlocking position (as shown inFIG. 14 ) where theanchor 190 is stowed substantially adjacent to the bottom of theseat 104. - When it is in the locking position, the
anchor 190 protrudes downward from the bottom of theseat 104 and engages with theupper surface 103 of thebase 102. More specifically, theanchor 190 can engage apocket 192 that is formed on theupper surface 103 at a location substantially aligned vertically with the longitudinal axis B of thebase 102. Thepocket 192 can be placed between theupright column 106 and the rear 102A of thebase 102, in a region with a relatively smaller distance between the bottom of theseat 104 and theupper surface 103 of thebase 102. The engagement of theanchor 190 with thepocket 192 can provide an anchorage that is located adjacent to the rear of the seat 104 (in particular adjacent to therear end 114A of the bottom frame segment 114) and is substantially aligned vertically with the longitudinal axis B of thebase 102. In this manner, theseat 104 can be rotationally locked with the base 102 at a centered position on the base 102 (i.e., the respective longitudinal axes B and S of thebase 102 andseat 104 as shown inFIG. 1 are substantially aligned with each other). - Referring to
FIG. 14 , when it is pivoted to the unlocking position, theanchor 190 is disengaged from thepocket 192 of theupper surface 103 so as to allow rotation of theseat 104 about the rotation axis Z relative to thebase 102. Theanchor 190 in the unlocking position can be conveniently stowed adjacent to therear end 114A of thebottom frame segment 114, e.g., it can be received and substantially concealed in a cavity provided in thebottom frame segment 114. - It will be appreciated that the anchorage for preventing rotation of the
seat 104 about the rotation axis Z may also be implemented with an anchor that is assembled with the base 102 rather than with theseat 104.FIGS. 15 and16 are schematic views illustrating another embodiment of a lock mechanism provided in thechild motion apparatus 100 for blocking rotation of theseat 104 about the rotation axis Z. The lock mechanism shown inFIGS. 15 and16 can include ananchor 194 movably assembled with thebase 102. More specifically, theanchor 194 can be provided as a single part, and can be pivotally connected with theshell body 176 of thebase 102. Theanchor 194 can be placed at a location that is between theupright column 106 and the rear 102A of thebase 102 and is substantially aligned with the longitudinal axis B. Theanchor 194 can be movable relative to the base 102 between a locking position (as shown inFIG. 15 ) where theanchor 194 protrudes across the gap between theupper surface 103 of thebase 102 and the bottom of theseat 104, and an unlocking position (as shown inFIG. 16 ) where theanchor 194 is stowed substantially adjacent to theupper surface 103 of thebase 102. - When it is in the locking position, the
anchor 194 protrudes upward from theupper surface 103 of thebase 102 and engages with the bottom of theseat 104. More specifically, theanchor 194 can engage a pocket that is formed on thebottom frame segment 114 at a location near therear end 114A thereof. The engagement of theanchor 194 with thebottom frame segment 114 can provide an anchorage that is adjacent to the rear of theseat 104 and is substantially aligned vertically with the longitudinal axis B of thebase 102. In this manner, theseat 104 can be rotationally locked with the base 102 at a centered position on thebase 102. - Referring to
FIG. 16 , when it is pivoted to the unlocking position, theanchor 194 is disengaged from thebottom frame segment 114 so as to allow rotation of theseat 104 about the rotation axis Z relative to thebase 102. Theanchor 194 in the unlocking position can be conveniently stowed adjacent to theupper surface 103 of thebase 102, e.g., it can be received in a cavity formed on theupper surface 103. - Advantages of the structures described herein include the ability to provide a child motion apparatus that can be conveniently operated for collapsing its rigid frame structure. Moreover, the child motion apparatus can have an anchor easily accessible for locking the seat of the child motion apparatus in a centered position for facilitating its transportation.
- Realizations of the child motion apparatus has been described in the context of particular embodiments. These embodiments are meant to be illustrative and not limiting.
Claims (15)
- A child motion apparatus (100) comprising:a base (102) having an upper surface (103);an upright column (106) connected with the base (102), protruding upward through the upper surface (103 and disposed below the seat (104);a seat (104) pivotally supported by the upright column (106) above the upper surface (103) of the base (102), the seat (104) being disposed at a top of the upright column (106) and being rotatable relative the base (102) about a rotation axis (Z) defined by the upright column (106); andan anchor (190, 194) movably assembled with either of the seat (104) and the base (102) at a position distant from the upright column (106), the anchor (190, 194) having a locking position where the anchor (190, 194) extends across a gap between a bottom of the seat (104) and the upper surface (103) of the base (102) and blocks rotation of the seat (104) about the rotation axis (Z), and an unlocking position allowing rotation of the seat (104) about the rotation axis (Z).
- The child motion apparatus (100) according to claim 1, wherein the base (102) has a front (102B), and a rear (102A), and a longitudinal axis (B) extending centrally from the front (102B) to the rear (102A), the anchor (190, 194) when in the locking position being substantially aligned with the longitudinal axis (B).
- The child motion apparatus (100) according to claim 2, wherein the anchor (190, 194) when in the locking position is located between the rear (102A) of the base (102) and the rotation axis (Z).
- The child motion apparatus (100) according to claim 1, 2 or 3, wherein a distance between the upper surface (103) of the base (102) and a bottom of the seat (104) is greater at a front (104B) of the seat (104) than at a rear (104A) of the seat (104), and the anchor (190, 194) is configured to rotationally lock the seat (104) with the base (102) at a location adjacent to the rear (104A) of the seat (104).
- The child motion apparatus (100) according to any of claims 1 to 4, wherein the seat (104) includes a bottom frame segment (114) and a seatback frame segment (116), the bottom frame segment (114) being connected with the top of the upright column (106) and having a rear end (114A) connected with the seatback frame segment (116), and the anchor (190, 194) being configured to rotationally lock the seat (104) with the base (102) at a location adjacent to the rear end (114A) of the bottom frame segment (114).
- The child motion apparatus (100) according to any of claims 1 to 4, wherein the anchor (190) is assembled with the seat (104) and is movable to selectively engage and disengage the upper surface (103) of the base (102), the anchor (190) being engaged with the upper surface (103) to block rotation of the seat (104) about the rotation axis (Z), and the anchor (190) being disengaged from the upper surface (103) for allowing rotation of the seat (104) about the rotation axis (Z).
- The child motion apparatus (100) according to claim 6, wherein the upper surface (103) of the base (102) has a pocket (192), the anchor (190) engaging with the pocket (192) in the locking position and disengaging from the pocket (192) in the unlocking position.
- The child motion apparatus (100) according to claim 6 or 7, wherein the anchor (190) protrudes downward from a bottom of the seat (104) in the locking position, and is stowed adjacent to the bottom of the seat (104) in the unlocking position.
- The child motion apparatus (100) according to claim 6, 7 or 8, wherein the seat (104) further includes a bottom frame segment (114) that is located above the upper surface (103) of the base (102) and is connected with the top of the upright column (106), the anchor (190) being connected with the bottom frame segment (114).
- The child motion apparatus (100) according to any of claims 6 to 9, wherein the anchor (190) is pivotally assembled with the seat (104).
- The child motion apparatus (100) according to any of claims 1 to 4, wherein the anchor (194) is assembled with the base (102) and is movable to selectively engage and disengage a bottom of the seat (104), the anchor (194) being engaged with the bottom of the seat (104) to block rotation of the seat (104) about the rotation axis (Z), and the anchor (194) being disengaged from the bottom of the seat (104) for allowing rotation of the seat (104) about the rotation axis (Z).
- The child motion apparatus (100) according to claim 11, wherein the anchor (194) protrudes upward from the upper surface (103) of the base (102) in the locking position, and is stowed adjacent to the upper surface (103) of the base (102) in the unlocking position.
- The child motion apparatus (100) according to claim 11 or 12, wherein the seat (104) further includes a bottom frame segment (114) located above the upper surface (103) of the base (102) and connected with the top of the upright column (106), the anchor (194) engaging with the bottom frame segment (114) in the locking position and disengaging from the bottom frame segment (114) in the unlocking position.
- The child motion apparatus (100) according to any preceding claim, wherein the upright column (106) is tilted rearward from a vertical direction, the seat (104) further includes a surrounding frame (112) defining a region where a fabric material (110) is stretched to form a seating support for receiving a child, the surrounding frame (112) being affixed with two lateral limiting pads (134) made of a rigid material, the two lateral limiting pads (134) being disposed near a shoulder height of a child and respectively projecting from a left and a right side of the surrounding frame (112) toward a central region of the surrounding frame (112).
- The child motion apparatus (100) according to claim 14, wherein the surrounding frame (112) is pivotally connected with a bottom frame segment (114) extending from a front (104B) to a rear (104A) of the seat (104), and a seat pan (132) is affixed with the bottom frame segment (114) above the top of the upright column (106), the seat pan (132) having a left and a right sidewall (132A) rising upward.
