Abstract

Substantially rectangular piece of roof covering for arranging on a substantially flat roof surface, comprising a watertight, substantially rectangular piece of flexible material and a fastening layer arranged on the underside of the piece of flexible material and extending over at least a part of the surface area of the piece of flexible material, and configured for attachment to fastening means arranged on the roof surface, characterized in that the fastening layer extends over less than half the surface area of the piece of flexible material.

Description

  • The invention relates to a piece of roof covering according to claim 1. Such a piece of roof covering can be arranged on a roof surface provided with pieces of fastening material, wherein a sufficiently great fastening force is obtained so as to comply with most regulations in respect of attachment, although this piece of roof covering can also be used for fastening by means of for instance glue, by weighting with ballast or by mechanical attachment.
  • The watertight layer can be formed by bitumen, plastics or by a mixture of both components.
  • According to a preferred embodiment, the fastening layer comprises fastening material provided with loops. This fastening material is suitable for attachment of fastening material provided with hooks or mushroom hooks to roof surfaces.
  • In order to keep costs low it is recommended that the fastening material provided with loops is formed from non-woven material.
  • It is also recommended that the fastening material is meltable, that the fastening layer is arranged over a large part of the surface area and that the fastening layer is made inactive by being melted over at least half the surface area thereof. A layer extending over substantially the whole surface area of the piece of roof covering is hereby formed which can not only be fastened at the position of the loops but which is also suitable for adhesion at the position of the removed loops, for instance by means of glueing.
  • It is noted that because the fastening layer has been melted over a part of its original surface area this fastening layer is no longer intact.
  • In respect of production and arrangement it is attractive for the piece of roof covering to be elongate and for the fastening layer to be arranged in bands extending parallel to the longitudinal direction of the piece of roof covering.
  • In order to distribute the forces as well as possible it is recommended that the fastening layer is provided with two bands and that the bands extend in the vicinity of the side edges of the piece of roof covering.
  • In order to obtain a good seal between adjacent bands it is recommended that the band extends at a distance from the side edge of the strip of roof covering on at least one of the side edges of the piece of roof covering.
  • The invention likewise relates to a substantially rectangular piece of roof covering arranged on a substantially flat roof surface, wherein the fastening layer is attached to fastening means arranged on the roof surface, wherein the fastening means comprise pieces of fastening material provided with hooks and extending in the longitudinal direction of the piece of roof covering.
  • The fastening layer of the piece of roof covering is preferably arranged in bands and each of the bands is in engagement with a piece of fastening material provided with hooks and arranged on the roof.
  • In order to keep the number of bands as small as possible it is recommended that the pieces of fastening material arranged on the roof are in engagement with bands of different pieces of roof covering.
  • According to another preferred embodiment, the pieces of roof covering whose bands are in engagement with the same piece of fastening material overlap each other.
  • The invention will be elucidated hereinbelow with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
  • Figure 1
    is a cross-sectional view of a first embodiment of a piece of roof covering according to the invention;
    Figure 2
    is a bottom view of the embodiment shown in figure 1;
    Figure 3
    is a bottom view of a second embodiment;
    Figure 4
    is a bottom view of a third embodiment;
    Figure 5
    is a cross-sectional view of a fourth embodiment of the piece of roof covering in a situation in which it is placed on a roof surface; and
    Figure 6
    is a cross-sectional view corresponding to figure 5 of the first embodiment in a situation in which it is placed on a roof surface.
  • The piece of roof covering 1 shown in figure 1 comprises a piece of flexible material 2 manufactured from plastic, from bitumen or from a mixture. Arranged under the piece of material 2 are two bands of fastening material 3a, 3b provided with loops and extending parallel to the longitudinal direction of the piece of roof covering. These bands 3a, 3b are formed by initially arranging a wide strip of fastening material which extends over the whole width of the two bands and the space between them, connecting this strip to the piece of flexible material 2 and then removing or rendering inactive the fastening material between the two bands 3a, 3b. In order to remove or render inactive the piece of fastening material between the bands use is preferably made of local heating. The use of meltable material for the fastening material makes it possible to melt the material by local heating, whereby it becomes inactive, is converted to a different layer or disappears. Figure 1 shows a situation in which the original fastening layer between bands 3a, 3b has been converted to an inactive layer 4. This same embodiment is shown in figure 2 as a bottom view. Also shown here is that a strip 5, which is wholly free of fastening material, is present along the right-hand side edge (in the drawing) of the elongate piece of roof covering. No layer is present here between the piece of flexible material and the underside of the piece of roof covering. The purpose of this strip is elucidated with reference to figure 6.
  • Figure 3 shows an embodiment which differs from the embodiment shown in figures 1 and 2 only in the smaller width of bands 3a and 3b and the thus resulting greater width of space 4 between the two bands 3a and 3b. It is otherwise also possible to provide the embodiment shown in figure 3 on both sides with a strip free of fastening material. It is after all then also possible to achieve a good attachment of the overlapping part.
  • The embodiment shown in figure 4 comprises three bands 3a, 3b and 3c which are distributed evenly over the width of the piece of roof covering. Also absent in this embodiment is strip 5. The intermediate space is divided into two smaller intermediate spaces 4a and 4b by middle band 3c.
  • Figure 5 shows the situation in which a fourth embodiment, which is provided with two bands 3a, 3b, is fastened to fastening strips 7a, 7b arranged on roof surface 6 and extending in the longitudinal direction of the piece of roof covering. These pieces of roof covering are attached in abutting manner so that means have to be provided for covering the seam between adjacent pieces of roof covering.
  • Finally, figure 6 shows a cross-sectional view corresponding to figure 5 of the first embodiment. Use is made here of wide fastening strips 7a, 7b arranged on roof surface 6. Band 3a is brought into engagement with a part of fastening strip 7a and band 3b of the piece of roof covering 1 is brought into engagement with a part of fastening strip 7b. Band 3b of a second piece of roof covering is also brought into engagement with that part of fastening strip 7 a which is not covered by band 3b of the first piece of roof covering. The free part 5 of the first piece of roof covering extends over the adjacent edge of the second piece of roof covering. Free part 5 can be connected watertightly to the underlying strip of the second piece of roof covering by means of fusion through heating.
  • It will be apparent that diverse measures from the shown embodiments can be combined with each other.
