Definitions
- the present invention relates to a method for managing transaction information related to an electronic transaction in an electronic payment solution and a network node for managing transaction information related to an electronic transaction in an electronic payment solution.
- a POS (Point of Sales) system is usually tied to the electronic payment solution.
- a common name for the cash register is the English name POS, Point of Sales.
- the POS system initiates the electronic transaction.
- the POS system transfers the information of the amount of the purchase to the electronic payment solution in which the electronic transaction is performed.
- the electronic payment solution can be a mobile payment solution, an Internet-based payment solution or another electronic payment solution.
- the electronic transaction is usually between an account at the merchant's bank and the consumer's card issuing bank.
- the electronic transaction can also be linked to an account at a mobile payment solution.
- a further problem with today's electronic payment solutions is that e.g. business travellers needs to manage physical receipts at bookkeeping and accounting of expenses, instead of direct being able to use of a digital receipt.
- An object of the present invention is to solve or reduce at least one of the above problems.
- a first embodiment of the present invention provides a network node for managing transaction information related to an electronic transaction in an electronic payment solution.
- the network node comprises a receiver configured to receive transaction information related to an electronic transaction, wherein the transaction information comprises a unique identifier associated with said electronic transaction.
- the receiver is further configured to receive a request for the transaction information including the unique identifier.
- the network node also comprises processing means configured to find the transaction information by using the unique identifiers and a transmitter configured to send the transaction data and the unique identifier.
- An object of the present invention thus obtained by receiving transaction information related to an electronic transaction.
- the transaction information can, for example include the goods that were paid with the electronic transaction.
- the transaction information comprises a unique identifier associated with the electronic transaction
- the transaction information later can be retrieved using the unique identifier.
- a request including the unique identifier is received from the electronic payment solution.
- the transaction information and the identifier are sent to e.g. the electronic payment solution that can present transaction information in e.g. a customer's account statement.
- the customer is then given the opportunity to e.g. see what goods that have been paid for with a particular transaction.
- a second embodiment of the present invention provides a method for managing transaction information related to an electronic transaction in an electronic payment solution.
- the method comprises the steps of: receiving transaction information related to an electronic transaction, the transaction information includes a unique identifier associated with the electronic transaction; receive a request for the transaction information including the unique identifier; find the transaction information using the unique identifier, and send the transaction information and the unique identifier.
- An advantage of the present invention is that the transaction information can be accessed by e.g. the electronic payment solution and be presented in the buyer's credit card statement.
- a further advantage of the present invention is that the transaction information can be accessed by the customer, for example a business traveller, where the transaction information is automatically integrated with existing systems for accounting and expense reporting.
- Another advantage of the invention is that it provides an opportunity to collect transaction information from a wide variety of electronic payment solutions and make it available to different stakeholders.
- a further advantage is that the transaction information recorded in the cash register is made available to the electronic payment solution.
- Another advantage is that the transaction information recorded in the cash register is made available to the electronic payment solution without the need for consumer card number or other identification of the consumer. Further advantages and features of embodiments of the present invention are listed in the following detailed description.
- Fig. 1 shows a schematic block diagram of an electronic payment solution.
- Fig. 2 shows a schematic block diagram of an example of a network node according to the present invention.
- Fig. 3 shows a flow diagram according to an embodiment of the present invention.
- Figure 1 shows a method for performing an electronic transaction in an electronic payment solution 100.
- a step 101 the goods a customer buys e.g. in a store is registered in a cash register 102.
- the electronic payment solution 100 is not limited to only handle electronic transactions related to a purchase in a physical store.
- the electronic payment solution 100 can also manage electronic transactions related to e.g. purchase of goods or services on the Internet.
- electronic payment solutions 100 is the cash register 102 directly linked to e.g. a card terminal 105.
- the card terminal 105 gets information about the amount of the electronic transaction related to purchase directly from the cash register 102.
- the cashiers manually enter the amount of the electronic transaction in the card terminal 105.
- step 103 the consumers card number, PIN number, expiration date and purchase amount is sent to e.g. a bank 106. If the bank 106 approves the electronic transaction, a confirmation is sent, in step 104, from the bank 106 to the card terminal 105 or cash register 102.
- the consumer receives a receipt from the cash register 102 if the purchase is a purchase in a physical store. If the purchase is made on the internet for some solutions a receipt is sent directly to the terminal or the computer which the buyer used to complete the purchase.
- FIG. 2 shows a network node 200, according to the present invention, for managing the transaction information related to an electronic transaction in an electronic payment solution.
- the network node 200 is described in connection with the above described electronic payment solution 100, but the network node 200 is not limited to interaction with only the electronic payment solution 100.
- the network node 200 may also interact with many other types of electronic payment solutions, such as mobile payment solutions and Internet-based electronic payment solutions.
- the network node 200 includes: a receiver 210 configured to receive transaction information related to an electronic transaction.
- the transaction information may e.g. be what goods or services that were paid for with the electronic transaction.
- the transaction information comprises a unique identifier associated with the electronic transaction.
- the unique identifier can include for example information that is created by any part of the electronic payment solution 100 and be information already submitted in the electronic payment solution 100. Since the unique identifier includes information that is already used by the electronic payment solution 100 the network node 200 can easily be used with various electronic payment solutions without that these need to be modified.
- the unique identifier includes at least a first identifier that identifies an equipment of the payee, RRN, Retrieval Reference Number, in ISO 8583 and a time stamp for the electronic transaction.
- RRN is a reference created by the equipment of the payee.
- RRN may also be a reference which is unique to each terminal in e.g. a shop for a certain period of time.
- RRN can also be a unique number for an electronic transaction set by the party that initiates the electronic transaction, such as a payment terminal.
- the unique identifier comprises at least a first identifier that identifies a device of the payee, RRN, Retrieval Reference Number in ISO 8583 and a time stamp for the electronic transaction
- the electronic transaction is identified by parameters already sent in electronic payment solutions.
