Description
"STRUCTURAL PROFILE MEMBER HAVING LIGHTING FUNCTION"
DESCRIPTION
Field of the invention
The present invention relates to a profiled structural member of the type suitable for providing support and guidance of one or more equipment or machine parts and, more specifically, to a profiled member with structural function of supporting and guiding the equipment supported onto the same, and having also a lighting function.
State of the Art
As today is widely known to use structural profiled members made of aluminum and alloys thereof, for the making of structures or supporting frames for equipment and/or machines. Typically, such structures are presented as an assembly of structural profiles of different shapes and sizes, and joined together by connecting members. After assembling the profiles, there are obtained structures that serve as the support for different types of equipment that interact with each other.
Such structural profiled members may have different cross section shapes and depending on the use for which they are intended, but all shapes of existing sections are functional. In fact, the shape of the cross section of a structural profile allows to provide a plurality of anchoring seats for fastening devices or to support guiding members, angular locking devices, and the like, as well as the positioning of locking seats for the equipment.
Typically, such seats for housing and locking members provided on the structural profiles are constituted by a plurality of grooves or longitudinal grooved guides having trapezoidal cross section shape, and which are suitable to house the head of a threaded bolt, or a bolt, or a locking member for fixing an apparatus. For example, to provide lighting to a particular working area, there is provision for illuminators that are blocked onto a part of a profiled member and within the said grooves or guides and by means of locking jaws or bolts or the like.
This solution adopted up to now has the drawback of having to provide for a further body which is external to the structure (i.e. the illuminator itself) which must be placed at the area to be illuminated, and that obviously causes the bulk of the overall sizes due to the presence of the illuminator itself.
According to another drawback of the state of the art structures, in the case where it is necessary to illuminate in a specific manner large areas of the structure, it will be necessary the use of two or more illuminators and the relevant bulk due to the use itself. Sometimes it is not possible simple adding more illuminators to the present structure, as the formers can interfere with the overall dimensions of the apparatus
present on the structure, therefore it is necessary to provide further additional structures for the illuminator itself.
Brief description of the invention
The aim of the present invention is to solve the above drawbacks by providing a profiled structural member that has both the functions of supporting and guiding the apparatuses mounted thereon, and the function of illuminating the area where the profiled member is arranged.
According to the present invention, there is provided a structural aluminum profile member for the framing of automated machines and other equipments, which incorporates in the grooves thereof special lighting members, and that comprise strips of printed electronic circuit with high-luminescence LEDs, and which allows the technical solution aimed to provide illuminated profiles without creating further bulkiness, and by using the standard procedure for installing profiles allowing the lighting of particular working areas, thereby rendering safer the machining areas and increasing the productivity thereof by providing better lighting also in critical places.
According to the present invention, there is provided a structural aluminum profile member with which it is possible in addition to provide excellent lighting and making visible what in the state of the art conditions could seem hidden, and further having the function of giving consent to the apparatuses mounted on the whole structure, allowing the operator to work in a perfect safety condition during handling and controlling operations.
According to the present invention, there is provided a structural aluminum profile having an additional lighting function, and which can be assembled on any kind of structure or on board to a machine, in moving and/or operating environments.
Therefore, the present invention provides a structural profiled member substantially according to the appended claims.

Figure 4 is a partial perspective view of a part of a profiled member that
incorporates a lighting device according to the present invention;
Figure 5 is a partial front view of the cross section of a part of a profiled member that incorporates a lighting device according to the present invention;
Figure 6 is a perspective view of a component part of the profiled member according to the present invention;
Figure 7 is another perspective view of the component part of Figure 6;

Figure 9 illustrates in perspective a lighting device that is a component part of the profiled member according to the present invention;
Figure 10 illustrates in perspective another component part of the lighting device of Figure 9.
With reference now to Figure 1 , it shows a portion of a structure realized with a plurality of structural profiled members 10 and a structural profiled member 1 of the present invention.
As can be noted in the figure, according to the present invention the profiled member 1 is perfectly integrated within the structure, since it is geometrically identical to other state of the art structural profiled members 10 which are normally used, as well as the same also incorporates the function of the lighting device without increasing overall dimensions nor presenting added structural lighting members as in the case of the state of the art (better illustrated here below).
With reference now to Figure 2 it is illustrated therein a profiled member 1 according to the present invention, and having the function of a lighting device. As can be seen in the figure, the profiled member incorporates a housing 2 which encloses all the electronics is an integral component part of the profiled member 1 itself.
In addition and as is evident in Figure 2, the housing 2 has two seats 20 for accommodating respective bolts or fasteners 21 for the connecting of the housing 2 to the member 1. Here it should be noted that the housing 2 can also provide the function of connecting one end of the a first profiled member 1 with a further part or ends of another profiled member of a frame in a manner per se already known, namely through connecting bolts (not shown). In this way, it is possible to achieve the connection between two structural profiled members using also the housing 2.
With particular reference now to Figures 6 and 7, the housing 2 contains all the electronics suitable for the controlling of the electronic components of the lighting device within the profiled member 1 of the present invention, the housing 2 being an integral part of the profiled member 1. Inside the housing 2 there is provided a circuit board and some components suitable for the controlling of the lighting device 4
arranged within the member section 1 (better illustrated hereinafter). Furthermore, the housing 2 is externally provided with a connector 22 of the standard type adapted to provide power to the electronic components contained within the housing 2 and to the lighting device 4 when the latter is connected to said components (better illustrated hereinafter).
With reference now to Figure 3, therein is illustrated the a cross-section of a generic structural profiled member and for illustrative sake.
As can be understood in the figure, the structural member 1 typically has a plurality of guiding and supporting grooves 3 for allowing the connection between other structural parts and equipments in a manner per se already known. Moreover, it is good to remember here that normally the shape of cross section of the grooves 3 is dictated by the use to which the profiled member 1 is addressed, that is to provide the support and anchoring of respective fasteners equipment (the latter not being illustrated in figures).
With reference now to Figures 4 and 5, there is illustrated therein the particular application of a lighting device 4 embedded in said grooves of the profiled member 1 according to the present invention.
As can be understood in the figures, for the generic use of the structural profiled member 1 (which is an integral part of a supporting structure 10 for an apparatus and which is partially illustrated in the figures), there is provided a lighting device 4 inserted therein and consisting of a rigid strip 5 containing a plurality of light sources 6 consisting of a plurality of LEDs 6, the device 4 being completely housed within a respective slot or groove 3 of the profiled member 1 and in a clear manner, i.e. by cooperating with the shapes and dimensions of the grooves 3 which are formed on the structural profiled member 1.
More precisely, the rigid strip 5 is constituted by a rigid member preferably made of metal and having a cross section with a shape which is complementary to the shape of the cross section of the groove 3 within the structural profiled member 1. Inside of the rigid member 5 it is formed a region 51 for containing a plurality of printed circuit boards mounted in a fixed manner and each of them incorporating a LED 6 preferably of the high luminescence type.
With particular reference now to Figure 9, there is illustrated the rigid member 5 in perspective, the member 5 containing a single printed circuit incorporating a LED 6.
With particular reference now to Figure 10, there is illustrated a printed circuit incorporating a LED 6 and apt to be mounted in a fixed manner onto the rigid member 5 (the latter not shown in the figure). The printed circuit board has the LED 6 centrally positioned and a pair of connectors 61 for the power supply to the LED 6.
With reference again to Figures 4 and 5, the lighting device 4 thus constituted, once inserted into the profiled member 1 is electrically connected through connector 40 to a power supply and control unit contained in the housing 2 (the latter not in figure).
Figures 8A to 8C illustrate the steps to be carried out for inserting and positioning the lighting device 4 inside a groove 3 of a structural profiled member according to the present invention.
As can be understood from the figures, the shape of the cross-section of the rigid member 5 allows to the former to be easily inserted within a respective groove 3 of a profiled member 1 without having to undergo to disassembling or modifications to the latter. The insertion of the lighting device 4 inside the groove 3 is done by rotating the device 4 and inserting progressively one edge and then the rest of the body of the former. Once inserted the body 5 of the lighting device 4 inside the groove 3, the former is fixed within the groove 3 through fastening screws (not shown in the figures).
As evident in the figures, the lighting device 4 once assembled within the profile member 1 do not show external dimensions (virtually no existing further bulk) and it is completely included within the outer shape of the profiled member 1.
It will appear immediately apparent to those skilled in the art that in the case of lighting applications for supporting structural frames of machines or the like, the present invention allows to radically eliminate the bulkiness of external housings relevant to the state of the art lighting devices, thus obtaining a remarkable versatility of assembly and reduction in bulk.
In particular, it is necessary to highlight here below the many advantages that the present invention presents:
1) The incorporating of one or more special lighting devices consisting of "strips of printed electronic circuit with high luminescence LED" within a structural aluminum profile used for construction of automatic machines and various equipments, allows to give a technical solution aimed at making the profile fully lighted without creating bulkiness, and using the standard mounting program for mounting profiles, and allowing the lighting of particular machining areas.
2) This method of construction aimed to render a profile member completely lighted without creating further bulkiness, causes the machining to be safer where the profile member it is applied and increases productivity thereof, by rendering the access thereof brighter and more visible even in critical arrangements.
3) According to a particular application of the profile 1 and the device 4 of the present invention, it is advantageously provided also the function of giving consent to the equipment through appropriate signalling devices and/or with different colours depending on the type of messages/lighting consent that has to be given (for example,
it is possible to report a fault or a machine stop providing LEDs with specific colorations activated remotely), and may allow the operator to work in perfect safety during handling and controlling.
4) With the modules specifically designed, the device 4 of the present invention can be mounted in any kind of structural profile both on the apparatuses and in moving and operating environments.

6) According to another advantageous aspect of the present invention, the rigid member 5 for supporting the plurality of LEDs has a shape which is perfectly complementary to the shape of the groove 3 wherein it is inserted. This allows that once the rigid member is fixed to the groove, it functions as a heat dissipater for the heat produced by the lighting device 4.
7) According to a further advantageous aspect of the present invention, each LED 6 has a pair of connectors 61 to create the light chain of LEDs 6 interconnected in series one to each other.
8) According to another advantageous aspect of the present invention, the housing 2 encloses also a low voltage power supply (12/24 Volt) which can be programmed according to the number of LEDs 6 to be installed.
9) According to another advantageous aspect of the present invention, the electronic components enclosed within the housing 2 can be operated / controlled also remotely via a remote control unit (such as a PC, PLC, or the like) positioned remotely to the structure which incorporates the profiled members 1 having the lighting function, and in such a way as to obtain a remote control in real time and/or timing the control for both the function of giving consent to the equipment through appropriate signalling devices and / or with a different colours depending on the type of message / consent light that has to be given, and the lighting to the machines and to the structure by the profiled members 1 with lighting function connected to said remote control unit.
10) The present invention provides a solution aimed at high energy savings, maintenance savings (average life of 60,000 hours per LED), and zero waste.
