Description
- The invention, as established in the title, relates to a mountable storage bed made from previously upholstered pieces, understanding by storage bed as a hard padded basis on which mattress is supported in a bed and that leaves a lower hollow space that serves as a place for storage of things.
- The storage bed as support of mattresses are formed by a box comprising a bottom and four lateral sides on which a usually fold-away top is available by one of their ends that allows access to the inside of the box.
- It characterizes the present invention the fact that the storage bed object of the invention can be mounted in situ, i.e. in the place of location, from the previously upholstered pieces, having the parts a size that allows transport and assembly by a single operator.
- Therefore, the present invention is confined within the scope of the storage bed for mattresses, and, in particular from those formed from several pieces.
- The storage bed, as previously indicated, is formed by a box and a top, and is generally being assembled at the factory and brought already mounted, either jointly or separately. In either case, transport of the box and top, either jointly or separately, is a difficult work because of the high weight and volume of the parts, which requires the intervention of at least two persons, what increases the supplying costs of the storage bed.
- There are different solutions of mountable storage bed in situ, as described in the Spanish Utility model
ES 1024481 U - On other occasions, is not possible the mounting of a storage bed in a room by the impossibility of access of the top and the box to the room. It could be a solution to mount in situ the different pieces that form the box, but however, this would not be possible without damaging the upholstery previously done to the storage bed pieces, or using non-upholstered panels. In addition always exists a problem with the top, which due to their size and weight would also require the participation of at least two persons for transport and assembly.
- Therefore, it is object of the present invention to design a storage bed which allows on site mounting from the parts that comprise it, and that can be transported and assembled by a single person, where the final quality of the upholstery is not influenced by the mounting in situ, and where also the internal free space for storage is not reduced.
- The invention relates to a mountable storage bed from previously upholstered pieces of a size and weight that can be handled, transported and mounted by a single person, allowing configuring an upholstered storage bed with a maximum interior space.
- To achieve the objective sought the storage bed comprises:
- A divided bottom
- Four lateral sides, two headpieces and two lateral sides which together with the bottom and together make up a top opening box
- A divided top
- A compass with hydraulic piston
- Characterized because the top is divided into two parts and that the four lateral sides and the two parts of the top are upholstered before mounting, lateral sides are joined to headpieces through a system of union which leaves no visible free edge of the upholstery, where also the two parties that make up the top are joint through the compass with hydraulic piston so that they operate as a single piece.
- In a possible embodiment of the invention, the lateral sides are joined by a union of pins and eccentrics, where in addition, the union system comprises a bushing that can accommodate the eccentric and the pin pass, and a rabbet on the side of the hole in the wood hosting the bushing that accommodates the eccentric, and a cap that covers the whole, being the fabric edges tucked and retained in the space between the walls of the rabbet and the bushing that accommodates the eccentric.
- The top is divided into two parts separated by a cut which direction is transversal to the direction of the longer length of the storage bed. The two parts of the storage bed are not symmetrical, even though they might be, to encourage the lifting and lowering of the top, preferably leaving the larger part of the top next to the articulation point, while the other part would be at the extreme part of the top when the top is lifted.
- In order to join the two parts of the top and link them with the rest of the storage bed set so that it can be manipulated as a single piece, both parties are joint through the upper bar that the compass with hydraulic piston has, being the compass with hydraulic piston used for lifting and lowering the top. The upper bar of the compass with hydraulic piston has a clearly greater length than the lengths of similar bars, in order to support and being able to be joint to the most extreme part of top, which allows lifting and lowering the top as a single piece.
- Thanks to the system described is accomplished the transportation and installation of a storage bed from previously upholstered individual pieces that can be transported, handled and assembled by only one person, without damage to upholstery and without reducing the interior free space of the box of the storage bed.
- To complement the description that will be made below and for the purpose of aiding to better understand the features of the invention according to a preferred practical embodiment thereof, a set of drawings is attached as an integral part of this description in which the following has been depicted with an illustrative and non-limiting character.
-
Figure 1 shows a representation in perspective of the storage bed. -
Figure 2 shows a detail of the compass with hydraulic piston used in the storage bed of the invention. -
Figure 3 , shows the underside of the top, showing the longitudinal reinforcement plate. -
Figure 4 shows the union between the lateral sides and the headpieces, previously upholstered. -
Figure 5 is a constructive detail how upholstery is hosted and retained in the rabbet in the wood of the lateral sides. -
Figure 6 shows view from the top of the box and top of the storage bed and the view by section AA. - In
Figure 1 we can observe how the storage bed comprises: - A divided bottom (3)
- Four lateral sides, two headpieces (4) and (5) and two longitudinal sides (6) and (7) that jointed with the bottom and together comprise a top opening box (1).
- A top (2)

- Where the top (2) is divided into two parts (8) and (9) that are previously upholstered and the two lateral sides (6) and (7) and the headpieces (4) and (5) are upholstered before mounting.
- The top (2) is divided into two parts (8) and (9) through a cut that is transversal to the largest dimension of the storage bed, preferably being the longest part of the top (8) next to the articulation point, while the part (9), which is the highest when the top (2) is open, has lower dimension.
-
Figure 2 , shows the compass with hydraulic piston (10) used for lifting the top, which comprises a lower bar (11) attached to a lateral side, an upper bar (12) attached to the two parties (8) and (9) of the top, leaving both bars, lower and upper, joined by two bars of elbow joint (13) and a hydraulic piston (15). - The top bar (12) presents the particularity of having enough length to serve as support and mean of union of the two parties (8) and (9) that comprise the divided top, and as it shown in
Figure 3 . -
Figure 4 shows two sides (5) and (7) joined at their ends through a union of pin and eccentric covered by a cap (18). -
Figure 5 shows how the upholstery is arranged, showing a rabbet (17) that, helped by outer surface of a bushing (19) which serves to accommodate the eccentric, retains the free ends (21) of the upholstery (20), leaving the whole inserted into a hole (23). The detail shown below shows the bushing (19) which contains the eccentric and that has a hole (22) that serves to leave out the pin for the purpose of union with the eccentric. - Finally,
Figure 6 shows the view from the top of the box (1) of the storage bed, which is composed of a headboard (4), footboard (5) and two sides (6) and (7). - Also section AA is shown in detail, showing how the lower edge of the sides joints on the bottom.
- Sufficiently described the nature of the present invention, as well as how to put it into practice, it is noted that, within its essentiality, it may be brought to the practice in other forms of embodiment that could differ in detail of the indicated as example, and will reach to which also the protection that is claimed, provided that it do not alter, change or modify its fundamental principle.
