Schaltgerät 1 geeignet für einen Gleichstrombetrieb umfassend zumindest eine erste Strombahn 2 und eine zweite Strombahn 3, die jeweils einen ersten Anschluss 4, 4' und einen zweiten Anschluss 5, 5' aufweisen, wobei die ersten Anschlüsse 4, 4' an einer ersten Seite des Schaltgeräts 1 und die zweiten Anschlüsse 5, 5' an einer zweiten Seite des Schaltgeräts 1 angeordnet sind, je Strombahn 2, 3 zumindest ein Kontaktpaar 7, 7', 8, 8', das einen ersten Kontakt 9, 9', 10, 10' und einen zweiten Kontakt 18, 18', 19, 19' aufweist, wobei zumindest der zweite Kontakt 18, 18', 19, 19' auf einem zum ersten Kontakt 9, 9', 10, 10' beweglichen Schaltstück 15, 15' angeordnet ist und wobei im eingeschalteten Zustand des Schaltgeräts 1 die beiden Kontakte 9, 9', 10, 10', 18, 18', 19, 19' miteinander in Kontakt sind, je Kontaktpaar 7, 7', 8, 8' mindestens eine Löscheinrichtung 21, 21', 22, 22' zum Löschen eines zwischen den Kontakten 9, 9', 10, 10', 18, 18', 19, 19' auftretenden Lichtbogens, wobei die Löscheinrichtungen 21, 21', 22, 22' der beiden Strombahnen 2, 3 in einer Richtung von den ersten Anschlüssen 4, 4' zu den zweiten Anschlüssen hintereinander und zumindest teilweise in Überdeckung zueinander angeordnet sind.
