Die Blöcke 3, welche auch als Dammblöcke 3 bezeichnet werden können, sind untereinander durch Verbindungsteile (bzw. -stücke oder -anordnungen) 5 verbunden und dienen zur seitlichen Abdichtung, insbesondere gegenüber flüssigem Metall des Bands oder des Strangs 2. Durch die Kette 1 verläuft ein Kühlmittelkanal 7. Dieser Kanal 7 verläuft dabei bevorzugt sowohl durch die Blöcke 3 als auch durch die Verbindungsteile 5. Innerhalb der Blöcke 3, kann der Kanal zwecks besserer Kühlung kammerartig ausgeweitet sein. Ferner können Kühlrippen innerhalb der Blöcke 3 zum besseren Wärmeaustausch mit dem Kühlmittel vorgesehen werden. Insbesondere können die Verbindungsteile 5 im Wesentlichen die Form eines Rohrs aufweisen, dessen Querschnitt sowohl rund als auch eckig ausgebildet sein kann oder aber auch je nach Anwendung gänzlich andere Querschnitte besitzen kann. Das Verbindungsteil 5 ist durch Kugelgelenke mit den angrenzenden Blöcken 3 verbunden. In der dargestellten Form umfassen die Verbindungsteile 5 an ihren (den Metallblöcken 3 zugewandten) Enden jeweils einen Kugelgelenkkopf 9, wobei der Kanal 7 bevorzugt auch durch diesen Kopf 9 bzw. durch das Rohr verläuft. Ferner umfasst das Kugelgelenk im Allgemeinen eine Gelenkpfanne 11 bzw. eine Gelenkschale 11, in der der Gelenkkopf 9 drehbar lagerbar ist. Insbesondere können das Rohr, der Gelenkkopf 9 und die Schale bzw. Pfanne 11 das Verbindungsteil 5 bilden. Figur 2 zeigt zudem eine bevorzugte Ausführungsform, gemäß der die Verbindungsteile 5 zweiteilig zum Separieren in Längsrichtung ausgebildet sind. Die Möglichkeit, das Verbindungsteil 5 bzw. das Rohr zwischen den Kugelgelenken bzw. den Metallblöcken 3 teilen zu können, erleichtert einen Austausch einzelner Glieder der Kette 1 bzw. den Austausch einzelner Kugelgelenke. Bevorzugt können auch die Metallblöcke 3 derart mehrteilig ausgebildet werden, dass diese zu öffnen sind und so Verbindungsteile 5 samt Lager bzw. Pfanne 11 zu entnehmen sind. Die Gelenkpfannen bzw. -schalen 11 sind bevorzugt gegenüber den Blöcken 3 und/oder den Gelenkköpfen 9 durch Dichtungen abgedichtet. Auch die abgebildete Kugelgelenkpfanne 11 kann einen größeren/oder kleineren Bereich eines Gelenkkopfes 9 umfassen bzw. abdecken als dargestellt. Bevorzugt sind die Metallblöcke 3 aber nur um weniger als 15°, vorzugsweise weniger als 10° gegeneinander zu neigen. Gelenkköpfe 9 und -pfannen 11 können den maximal benötigten Neigewinkeln entsprechend ausgebildet werden. Wenn das Verbindungsteil 5 entlang seiner Achse teilbar ausgebildet ist, können bei Bedarf die beiden Teile des Verbindungsteils in Richtung seiner Längsachse getrennt werden, sodass einer der beiden Teile samt Gelenkschale 11 ausgetauscht werden kann oder nur eine Gelenkschale 11 ersetzt werden kann oder aber auch einer der Teile samt Kugelkopf 9 ausgetauscht werden kann. Claims (13)

  1. A device for lateral sealing of a plant for casting a metal strip or metal strand (2), comprising the following:
    at least one chain (1) which comprises at least two successive metal blocks (3) for lateral sealing of the plant, which blocks form links of the at least one chain (1);
    at least one connecting part (5) for connecting two successive metal blocks (3); and
    a channel (7) which extends not only through the at least two metal blocks (3), but also through the at least one connecting part (5) and which is fillable with a coolant,
    characterised in that
    the connecting part (5) is formed from metal and the device additionally comprises ball joints for connecting the at least two metal blocks (3) with the connecting part (5) connecting them.
  2. The device according to claim 1, wherein the ball joints each comprise a ball-joint head (9) and a ball-joint socket (11) and the connecting part (5) has substantially the form of a tube which has at each of the two ends thereof a respective ball-joint had (9) connected with the tube.
  3. The device according to claim 2, wherein the connecting part (5) comprises at least one of the ball joints and a ball-joint socket (11) is movably mounted on the ball-joint head (9) thereof.
  4. The device according to claim 3, wherein the ball-joint socket (11) movably mounted on the ball-joint head (9) is mechanically positively connected with the corresponding metal block (3) for acceptance of tension forces acting along the chain (1).
  5. The device according to claim 2, wherein at least one of the metal blocks (3) comprises the ball-joint socket (11) of at least one of the ball joints.
  6. The device according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein two successive blocks (3) are respectively formed from at least two detachably interconnected components and that the connecting part (5) connecting the two successive blocks (3) is removable from the two successive blocks (3) when the components are released from one another.
  7. The device according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein the connecting part (5) is constructed to be divisible between its two ends.
  8. The device according to claim 1, wherein the connecting part (5) has substantially the form of a tube which comprises a respective one of the ball joints at each of its two ends.
  9. The device according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein the chain (1) comprises a plurality of metal blocks (3) and connecting parts (5) for connecting successive metal, blocks (3) and the device further comprises at least one chainwheel around which the chain (1) is arranged to circulate.
  10. The device according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein the at least one chain (1) is constructed for running together with the cast strip or strand (2).
  11. The device according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein the ball joints comprise seals for sealing the ball joints relative to coolant conducted in the channel (7).
