Definitions
- the technical field of the invention is charging systems for electrical energy storage elements.
- Estimating the end of charge time of a battery represents important information for the users of this type of energy storage device. This information facilitates for example a better use of the waiting time of the battery charge for the user. This information also allows embedded systems to better manage the use of energy in an electric or hybrid vehicle to increase the vehicle's range.
- An object of the invention is to accurately estimate the end of charge time of a battery.
- Another object of the invention is to estimate the end of charge time of a battery subjected to aging.
- a system for estimating the end of charging time of a battery connected to a battery charger in a motor vehicle comprises means for determining the state of charge of a battery, a means for determining the charging power of the battery charger and a means for determining an end of charge moment.
- State of charge means the ratio between the current load and the maximum load.
- the determination system has the advantage of taking into account the differences between start and end of charge in determining the remaining charging time.
- the means for determining an end-of-charge instant may comprise means for determining a charging start duration and means for determining an end of charge duration.
- the system may include means for correcting the end of charging time as a function of the aging of the battery connected at the output of the means for determining an end of charging moment and able to modify the end of charge time as a function of the aging state of the battery.
- the means for determining an end-of-charge instant may comprise a battery modeling means and a means of modeling the end of charge moment.
- the battery modeling means makes it possible to take into account the physical characteristics of the battery which are nonlinear in order to improve the estimation of the end of charge moment.
- the determination system then has the advantage of faster tuning and greater adaptability to different batteries.
- the modeling means of the end of charge instant can be able to determine the end of charge time according to a stored model, coefficients received from a battery modeling means, a value of maximum charge of the battery received from a memory, a measurement of the state of charge, a measurement of the charging power, and a measurement of the temperature of the battery received from a temperature sensor drums.
- the system may include means for determining the aging of the battery connected between the memory and the means for determining the end of charging time.
- the system may include a filter downstream of the battery state of charge determining means and the battery charger charging power determining means for attenuating measurement noise.
- Such a system for estimating the moment of end of charge can be integrated in a device for controlling a battery or in a device for controlling a motor-vehicle powertrain connected to a battery.
- the end of charging time can be determined according to a model, a stored maximum charge value, a measurement of the state of charge, a measurement of the charging power, and a measure of the temperature of the battery.
- a load state determining means 1 connected via a connection 2 to a means 3 for determining the load start time, and a branch 4 of the connection 2 to a means 5 for determining the load start time can be seen. the end of charge time.
- a means 6 for determining the power of the battery charger is connected by the connection 7 to the means 3 for determining the charging start time, and by a bypass 8 of the connection 7 to the determining means 5 of the end duration. charge.
- An adder 10 is connected by a connection 9a to the determination means 3 of the charge start time, and by a connection 9b to the determination means 5 of the charging end time.
- a connection 12 is connected at the output of the adder 10.
- a means 11 for determining the end of charging time comprises the adder 10, the means 3 for determining the charging start duration, and the means 5 for determining the end of charge duration.
- the estimation of the end of charge time is based on an empirical method, using two maps.
- the estimation of the charging time depends on the charging power and the state of charge of the battery.
- the maps used are therefore maps comprising two inputs and one output.
- a full charge corresponds to the charge of a battery having a state of charge equal to 0% of the total charge to a state of charge equal to 100% of the total charge.
- a first phase corresponds to a phase during which the charging power is constant.
- a second phase corresponds to a phase during which the power is reduced in stages.
- the mapping corresponding to the first phase is included in the determination means 3 of the charge start time.
- the map corresponding to the second phase is included in the means for determining the end of charge duration.
- the adder 10 realizes the sum of the durations obtained at the output of the determination means 3 of the charging start duration and the means of determining the end of charge duration.
- the batteries As they age, the batteries have a decrease in their capacity, and therefore in their charge time.
- the maps included in the determination means 3 of the charging start duration and in the end of charging duration determination means are established for complete charges corresponding to new batteries.
- the state of charge measured for an aging battery therefore does not correspond to the state of charge of a new battery.
- the determined charging time is thus wrong without a correction due to aging.
- a state of charge is expressed as a ratio between the current load and the maximum load of the battery.
- a means for correcting the end of charging time according to the aging of the battery can be inserted downstream of the determination means 1 of the state of charge.
- the determination means 1 of the state of charge is able to determine the aging state of the battery. It is also able to modify the value of the state of charge determined by the state of charge determination means 1 so that the value of the state of charge transmitted to the destination of the determination means 3 of the state of charge charge start time and charge end duration determination means includes a correction of the aging condition.
- the correction of the state of aging can be for example a multiplicative factor of the measured state of charge.
- the multiplicative factor can be derived from the ratio between the total charge of an aging battery and the total charge of the same new battery.
- the factor can also be derived from a law comparing the evolution of the state of charge of an aging battery to a new battery.
- a means 11 for determining the end of charging time comprising a modeling means 16 of the battery and a means 28 for estimating the end of charging time.
- a means 1 for determining the state of charge is connected by a connection 13 to a first filter 14.
- the filter 14 is connected at the output to the modeling means 16 of the battery, itself connected at the output to a connection 17.
- a branch 18 is also connected to the connection 15.
- a memory 19 is connected by the connection 20 to a means for determining the aging of the battery 21, itself connected at the output to a connection 22.
- a means 6 for determining the power of the battery charger is connected by a connection 23 to a second filter 24, itself connected at the output to a connection 25.
- Temperature determining means 26 is outputted to a connection 27.
- the means 28 for estimating the end of charging time is connected at the inputs to the connections 17, 18, 22, 25 and 27.
- a third filter 30 is connected at the input by the connection 29 to the estimation means 28. end of charging and output at a connection 31.
- the means 28 for estimating the end of charge moment makes it possible to model very precisely the physics involved in charging a battery. It saves memory resources and time on the development of a system to estimate the end of charge time of a battery, compared to a system that would use maps to characterize the charging time depending on each possible operating point, that is, for a series of preset temperatures, predefined service lives, predefined load powers, and predefined load states.
- the means for determining the aging of the battery 21 can be eliminated, in which case the means 28 for determining the end of charge instant takes into account directly the value stored in the memory 19.
- the second embodiment employs a physical model of charging and discharging the battery to determine the end of charging time.
- the physical model characterizes the duration of full charge depending on battery temperature, battery charging power, charge status and battery aging.
- the state of charge of the SOC battery is expressed as a function of the battery current I bat , the temperature of the battery T, the capacity of the new battery Q 0 bat, max and the capacity of the battery Q bat, max (T, t) at time t and at temperature T.
- DSOC dt I beats Q beats , max T t
- the no-load voltage and the internal resistance of the battery are either derived from empirical mappings, or functions derived from the theory of battery electrochemistry, or from a combination of the two.
- I beats - U 0 T SOC + U 0 T SOC 2 + 4 ⁇ P ch ⁇ R T SCO 2 ⁇ R T SOC
- the vacuum voltage versus charge state curve has two inflection points defining three distinct zones. It is estimated that in each of these areas, the no-load voltage varies linearly with the state of charge. We can associate an index k with each of the three intervals.
- the same reasoning can be applied to the variation of the internal resistance R as a function of the state of charge of the battery.
- the internal resistance R varies according to an inverse polynomial relationship and comprises two zones in which the rate of change is different.
- the abscissa of the terminal between the two zones is different from the abscissae of the terminals separating the zones relating to the no-load voltage.
- the coefficients ⁇ k , ⁇ k , ⁇ k and ⁇ k are determined so as to approach the relations of the no-load voltage and the internal resistance by linear functions. In addition, the coefficients may vary depending on the temperature and the type of battery.
- the estimate of the final charging time passes through a succession of steps.
- the index ki corresponding to the current state of charge is first determined.
- the index ki is between 0 and 3.
- Equation 12 is then applied by replacing the values of the resistance and the unladen tension of equation 9 by the expressions linear equations 10 and 11, taking care to choose the coefficients corresponding to the index ki determined.
- the coefficients of these equations are previously determined.
- the determination system can be integrated in the main powertrain calculator or in the battery computer.
- An application of the second embodiment of the system for estimating the end of charge instant is to optimize the charging strategy of the battery.
- the charging time of the battery is reduced when the determination system is used. Indeed, the determination system minimizes the charging time of the battery while minimizing the dispersion of the battery charge. Minimizing the dispersion of the battery charge is achieved by maximizing the power accepted by the battery during charging. This is facilitated by the analytical expression of the model of the determination system.
- t ch f f I SOC f T P beats , max with P bat, max: the maximum power that can accept the battery without compromising its lifespan.
- ⁇ soc the dispersion of the SOC state of charge.
- the dispersion of the value of the state of charge of the battery is dependent on the dispersion of the current ⁇ I , itself dependent on the temperature T and the current I.
- the charge time decreases.
- the more the current decreases the more the dispersion of the state of charge decreases, and the longer the stress on the lifetime of the battery is respected.
- Another application of the second embodiment of the system of estimating the end of charge moment is to optimize the charging times of the vehicle interactively with the user to improve the durability, autonomy and reliability of the vehicle. vehicle availability.
- the system makes it possible to improve the autonomy of the vehicle as well as its availability for the user.
- the user Via a man-machine interface, the user can be informed of the remaining charge, the charging time required for a full charge and the prediction of a recharge time.
- the user can also receive this information in a synthetic manner within a satellite-assisted navigation application (eg GPS) or any other route planning program.

figure 2 .

- k : un indice variant entre 0 et 2 et désignant l'une des trois zones ; on peut bien sûr découper la courbe de tension à vide en plus de trois zones ;
-
- k : un indice variant égal à 0 ou à 1 et désignant l'une des deux zones ; on peut bien sûr découper la courbe de résistance interne en plus de deux zones ;
