Abstract
Description
- The present invention relates to a fitted bed sheet to be arranged on and covering a bed mattress, in particular an alternating pressure air mattress, which is used for healing of and preventing bedsores, wherein the fitted bed sheet has a non-slip upper surface and glide flaps to make the upper surface slipping so that e.g. a turnsheet can be used on the upper surface.
- It is known to use such non-slip bed sheets which are fitted around the bed mattress and are locked together on the lower side of the mattress by means of e.g. Velcro tape and bed sheets formed as a holster that are dragged onto the bed mattress from one shorter side of the mattress, so that the upper as well as the lower side of the mattress is covered by the bed sheet. These types of non-slip bed sheets are difficult or often impossible to fit on the mattress without removing the patient from the bed. Non-slip bed sheets that are formed as traditional bed sheets which are locked to the mattress by means of elastic straps around the corners of the mattress are also known but these bed sheets are not stably locked to the mattress and tend to move when the patient is handled, such as turned, on the bed sheet.
- The present invention relates to a fitted bed sheet for covering a bed mattress and having an upper non-slip surface, the sheet being provided with glide flaps, which selectively can be arranged to cover a part of the upper non-slip surface of the sheet, so that an object, such as a turnsheet, placed on top of the sheet may glide against the glide flaps, wherein the bed sheet is provided with corner parts, which are suited to be arranged over the corners of the mattress. The corner parts which are generally non-elastic ensure that the bed sheet is held stably to the mattress, also when a patient placed on top of the bed sheet is handled, such as turned on top of the bed sheet, and the corner parts makes it possible and easy to change the bed sheet while the patient is still in the bed.
- It is particularly preferred that the corner parts of the part of the sheet which faces one end, preferably the foot end of the mattress are equipped with adjustable openings so as to enable an adjustment of the fitting of the sheet to the mattress.
- The fitted bed sheet according to the invention is in an advantageous embodiment provided with side flaps along both longer sides of the rectangular sheet, so that the side flaps can be inserted between the mattress and a bed base on which the mattress is placed, whereby the bed sheet is kept in place during handling of the patient in the bed. The side flaps are preferably provided with non-slip surfaces at least on the side facing a bed base.
- The no-slip upper surface of the bed sheet constitutes preferably a section of the upper surface of the sheet made from a material which has non-slip properties and is more elastic than the material the remaining of the bed sheet is made from, so that the upper surface of the bed sheet is more apt to follow the change in volume of an alternating pressure air mattress during the cyclic change of pressure inside the mattress.
- It is furthermore preferred that the fitted bed sheet has an opening for providing access to a CPR tag for emergency deflation of the mattress in case the patient in the bed suffers cardiac arrest that requires cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) to be performed on the patient which requires the mattress to be deflated rapidly.
- The bed sheet is in a further preferred embodiment provided with locking means for locking each of the glide flaps in the position where they cover a part of the upper non-slip surface of the sheet.
- An embodiment of the present invention is illustrated by means of the enclosed drawing of which
-
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a fitted bed sheet according to the present invention when fitted onto a mattress, -
Fig. 2 is a bottom view of the bed sheet ofFig. 1 , -
Fig. 3 is a detail of one corner part of the bed sheet ofFig. 1 , -
Fig. 4 is another perspective view of the bed sheet ofFig. 1 , and -
Fig. 5 is yet another perspective view of the bed sheet ofFig. 1 . - An embodiment of a fitted
bed sheet 1 according to the present invention is illustrated in the enclosed drawing. Thebed sheet 1 is provided with an uppernon-slip surface part 2, 2' on which the patient in the bed is placed. The surface part may selectively be covered by threeglide flaps 3 which each cover a section of theupper surface part 2, 2'. InFig. 5 , the three sections of theupper surface part 2, 2' that each may be covered by aseparate glide flap 3 are indicated, where the section 2' supporting the back of the patient is placed to the right in the figure and the part supporting the legs are placed to the right with the part supporting the lumbar region is placed in the middle. Theglide flaps 3 may be locked in the position where they cover each a section of the non-slipupper surface 2, 2' by locking means 5. With the non-slipupper part 2, 2' of thebed sheet 1 and theglide flaps 3, it is possible to adjust the properties of the surface supporting the patient according to the handling operation of the patient. Thebed sheet 1 is provided withcorner parts 4, 4' that are suited for being arranged around the corners of the bed mattress so that thecorner parts 4, 4' lock thebed sheet 1 firmly in place on the mattress. The corner parts 4' at thefoot end 6 of the mattress are provided withopenings 7 of an adjustable size so that the extent of the corner parts 4' may be fitted to the actual mattress, whereby the bed sheet can be made to fit the mattress more snugly and thus be locked more firmly in place to the mattress. - The
openings 7 of the corner parts 4' may also be used for accommodatingair supply hoses 11 for the mattress as shown inFig. 3 . - The
bed sheet 1 is along the longer sides of the mattress and thus thelonger sides 8 of therectangular bed sheet 1 provided withside flaps 9 to be fitted in between the lower side of the mattress onto which thebed sheet 1 is arranged and a bed base that supports the mattress so as to lock the bed sheet further in place. Theside flaps 9 are at least on the side facing the bed base provided with a non-slip surface. - In order to provide accessibility to a CPR tag of an inflatable air mattress which enables an emergency deflation of the mattress in case of e.g. a cardiac arrest of the patient, the
bed cover 1 is provided withsuitable openings 10.REFERENCE NUMBERS 1 Fitted bed sheet 2, 2' Non-slip upper surface section of bed sheet 3 Glide flaps 4, 4' Corner parts of the bed sheet 5 Lockers for locking the glide flaps 6 Foot end of mattress 7 Adjustable openings in corners at foot end 8 Longer sides of bed sheet 9 Side flaps 10 Opening for CPR tag 11 Air supply hose for mattress
