Description

A WASHER COMPRISING A CONDUCTIVITY AND TEMPERATURE SENSOR
  • The present invention relates to a washer comprising a sensor that provides the physical features of the washing environment to be measured.
  • In washers, particularly in dishwashers and washing machines, the values of the physical features relating to the environment in the washing tub such as the temperature of the environment in the washing tub, the amount of the gas in the environment, the amount of dirt in the washing liquid, the amount of cleaning agent in the washing liquid, etc. are measured and the washing process is controlled by the control unit such that the best result is obtained. Detecting the said physical features inaccurately decreases the washing performance. On the other hand, for fulfilling the safety conditions, the sensor, which provides the said physical conditions to be measured by contacting directly the washing environment or the washing liquid, should be electrically insulated from the other electronic elements of the washer. Depending on the increase in the number of the sensors used in washers, the individual electrical insulation of each sensor causes an increase in the costs. For this reason, in the state of the art, various solutions have been developed for the said problems.
  • In the state of the art Patent Application No. WO2007/134765, a washer is described which comprises a sensor package that performs conductivity and temperature measurements at the same time.
  • In the state of the art Patent Application No. WO2007/077170, a washer is described wherein the temperature of the washing liquid is detected by monitoring the current drawn by a heater used for heating the washing liquid.
  • The aim of the present invention is the realization of a washer wherein the temperature of the washing liquid is accurately measured.
  • The washer realized in order to attain the aim of the present invention and explicated in the claims, comprises a detection means which provides the physical features of the washing liquid to be detected by contacting the washing liquid in the washing tub and a temperature sensor that measures the temperature of the electrode of the detection means, which contacts the washing liquid, without contacting it. By means of the contactless measurement of the temperature of the electrode in addition to the physical feature detected through the electrode which contacts the washing liquid, the temperature of the washing liquid is also measured and two different physical features relating to the washing liquid are detected through the same electrode. The temperature sensor is placed near, in the vicinity of the end of the electrode that extends outside the washing tub. The end portion of the electrode outside the washing tub is open and is situated in the detection field of the temperature sensor. Thus, the temperature of the end of the electrode that remains outside the washing tub is measured by the temperature sensor in a contactless way. Thus, the temperature of the washing liquid contacted by the end of the electrode that extends into the washing tub is indirectly measured.
  • In an embodiment of the present invention, a thermopile is used as the temperature sensor.
  • In an embodiment of the present invention, the conductivity value of the washing liquid is measured by the detection means. The measurement is performed by means of two electrodes that extend into the washing tub. One end of the one of the electrodes extends into the washing tub and the other end outside the washing tub. The electrical insulation between the electrodes and the detector circuit is provided by means of a transformer.
  • In another embodiment of the present invention, the end of the electrode that extends outside the washing tub and through which the temperature measurement is performed, is painted with a dark color paint. Thus, measurement stability is provided.
  • In another embodiment of the present invention, the detection means is placed on the washing tub so as to remain outside the washing tub.
  • The washer of the present invention is suitable for being used as a dishwasher or washing machine.
  • By means of the present invention, in washers, electrical safety is effectively and practically provided by means of the temperature sensor, which provides the temperature measurement to be performed in a contactless way through the electrode of the detection means that contacts the washing liquid, while the detection means used for detecting one of the physical features of the washing liquid contacts the washing liquid and is insulated electrically.
  • A washer realized in order to attain the aim of this invention is illustrated in the attached figures, where :
  • Figure 1 – is the schematic view of a washer.
  • Figure 2 – is the schematic view of a detection means and a temperature sensor.
  • The elements illustrated in the figures are numbered as follows:
    1. Washer
    2. Washing tub
    3. Detection means
    4. Control unit
    5. Electrode
    6. Detector circuit
    7. Carrier
    8. Temperature sensor
    9. Transformer
  • The washer (1) of the present invention comprises a washing tub (2) wherein items to be washed are placed, a detection means (3) which provides the physical features of the washing liquid in the washing tub (2) to be detected and a control unit (4) which controls the washing program according to the values of the physical features of the washing liquid measured by the detection means (3) (Figure 1 and Figure 2).
  • The detection means (3) comprises at least one electrode (5) extending into the washing tub (2) and which contacts the washing liquid during the washing process, a detector circuit (6) which evaluates the data coming from the electrode (5) and an electrically isolated carrier (7) which is placed outside the washing tub (2) and whereon the electrode (5) and the detector circuit (6) are situated.
  • One end of the electrode (5) extends into the washing tub (2) and the other end (A) extends outside the carrier (7), towards the environment outside the washing tub (2).
  • The washer (1) comprises a contactless temperature sensor (8) which is placed so as to face the end (A) of the electrode (5) that extends outside the carrier (7), towards the environment outside the washing tub (2) and which detects the temperature of the end of the electrode (5) from the thermal radiation generated by the end of the electrode (5).
  • The detection means (3) provides direct contact with the washing liquid by means of the electrodes (5) and the physical features of the washing liquid are detected through the electrodes (5). The detected values are transmitted to the control unit (4) by the detector circuit (6). The detection circuit (6) is electrically insulated from the control unit (4). In addition to the measurement made by the detection means (3), by means of the temperature sensor (8), the temperature value of the washing liquid is measured by detecting the temperature of the electrode (5), that is the thermal radiation generated by the electrode (5) one end of which contacts the washing liquid and the other end (A) which remains open outside the washing tub (2). Since the temperature sensor (8) does not contact the washing liquid, it is electrically connected directly to the control unit (4), thus there is no need of insulation.
  • In an embodiment of the present invention, the temperature sensor (8) is a thermopile.
  • In an embodiment of the present invention, the detection means (3) detects the conductivity values of the washing liquid. The detection means (3) comprises two electrodes (5) having a distance therebetween and both of which extend into the washing tub (2). The detection means (3) furthermore comprises a transformer (9) which provides the electrical insulation of the detector circuit (6). Electrical insulation is provided between the electrodes (5) that are connected to the secondary winding of the transformer (9) and the detector circuit (6) that is connected to the primary winding of the transformer (9).
  • In an embodiment of the present invention, the end (A) of the electrode (5) that extends outside the carrier (7), towards the environment outside the washing tub (2) is painted with a dark color paint. The electrodes (5) are produced from a metal and glossy material. By painting the end (A) whereat the temperature measurement is performed by the temperature sensor (8) is painted with a dark color paint and hence measurement stability is provided.
  • In an embodiment of the present invention, the detection means (3) is placed on the washing tub (2) so as to remain outside the washing tub (2).
  • In an embodiment of the present invention, the washer (1) is a dishwasher.
  • In an embodiment of the present invention, the washer (1) is a washing machine.
  • By means of the present invention, in washers (1), electrical safety is effectively and practically provided by means of the temperature sensor (8), which provides the temperature measurement to be performed in a contactless way through the electrodes (5) of the detection means (3) that contact the washing liquid, while the detection means (3) used for detecting one of the physical features of the washing liquid contacts the washing liquid and is insulated electrically.
  • It is to be understood that the present invention is not limited to the embodiments disclosed above and a person skilled in the art can easily introduce different embodiments. These different embodiments should also be considered within the scope of the claims of the present invention.
