Description

    REFRIGERATOR WITH COOLED MACHINE ROOM
  • The present invention relates to a refrigerator wherein the heat transfer from the machine room to the refrigerator is reduced.
  • During the refrigerant cycle carrying out in the refrigerator, the heat received from the refrigerating and freezing compartments is discharged to the outer environment by means of the condenser. In conventional refrigerators, the static type condenser that functions with the natural heat convection principle is preferred and in no-frost refrigerators, the coil type condenser that operates with enforced heat convection principle is preferred. In no-frost refrigerators, the compressor and the condenser are the “hot” components of the refrigerant cycle and operate in the machine room which is called cabin base region and which is generally situated at the bottom portion of the refrigerator body. By means of a fan in the machine room, the heat is provided to be discharged to the outer environment from the condenser and the compressor is provided to be cooled. Since the compressor and the condenser increase the temperature of the machine room, the refrigerating compartment and the freezing compartment that are adjacent to the machine room are also affected by this high temperature and the need of cooling and hence energy consumption increase.
  • In the Japanese Patent Application No. JP2006138609, a refrigerator wherein the compressor and the condenser which operate in the machine room are provided to be cooled by means of an axial fan placed between the compressor and the condenser is explained.
  • The aim of the present invention is the realization of a refrigerator wherein the heat transfer towards the portions of the refrigerating compartment and the freezing compartment close to the machine room is reduced by insulating the machine room wherein the compressor and the condenser operate.
  • The refrigerator realized in order to attain the aim of the present invention, explicated in the first claim and the respective claims thereof, comprises a machine room which is situated at the rear bottom of the body thereof and wherein the compressor and the condenser operate, and the compressor and the condenser are provided to be cooled by means of an axial fan. A divider plate which extends from the axial fan onto the condenser and the compressor is situated in the machine room, and there is a gap between the divider plate and the walls of the machine room. Since the divider is positioned a little below the tip portion of the fan blades, the air blown from the blade tips of the fan enters the gap between the divider and the machine room wall and an efficient heat insulation is provided in this region by providing air flow in the gap. Thus the heat transfer from the compressor and the condenser, which are the “hot” components of the machine room, towards the machine room walls is reduced substantially, and the temperature of the machine room walls is kept at almost the ambient temperature level.
  • In an embodiment of the present invention, the diameter of the fan is selected such that the level of the blade tips exceeds the level of the compressor and the condenser, in other words a fan with a greater diameter compared to the known embodiments is used. Thus by placing a, for example rectangular shaped, flat divider plate on the compressor and the condenser, the air blown from the blade tips of the fan is directly delivered to the gap.
  • In another embodiment of the present invention, the divider is produced from plastic, and by means of the low thermal conductivity characteristic of the plastic material the heat transfer towards the machine room walls is reduced.
  • In another embodiment of the present invention, the refrigerator comprises a horizontal top wall which extends vertically from the rear - bottom part of the body thereof to the inside and the joint edges of which have a curved structure, a vertical inner wall and the divider placed in the machine room by being bent so as to be parallel to the walls.
  • In another embodiment of the present invention, the refrigerator comprises an extension in curvilinear or inclined form which extends from the divider towards the center of the fan by bending and which directs the air blown from the tip portion of the fan blades to the gap. The inclination angle of the extension is determined to be suitable for the angle the air flow in the airflow-outof the fan makes with the horizontal fan axis.
  • In another embodiment of the present invention, the fan is operated at low speed in the stop periods of the compressor and the condenser.
  • In the refrigerator of the present invention, the heat transfer from the condenser and the compressor towards the walls surrounding the machine room and hence to the refrigerating compartment and the freezing compartment is reduced and energy saving is provided.
  • The refrigerator realized in order to attain the aim of the present invention is illustrated in the attached figures, where:
  • Figure 1 - is the rear schematic view of the refrigerator of the present invention.
  • Figure 2 - is the rear schematic view of the refrigerator in another embodiment of the
  • present invention.
  • Figure 3 - is the side schematic view of the refrigerator of the present invention.
  • The elements illustrated in the figures are numbered as follows:

  • The refrigerator (1) comprises a body, one or more than one refrigerating compartment or freezing compartment (2) located inside the body, a compressor (3) providing the refrigeration cycle to be performed, a condenser (4) providing the refrigerant fluid to be condensed, a machine room (5) situated preferably at the bottom portion of the body and which is also called cabin base region, wherein the compressor (3) and the condenser (4) operate, one or more than one wall (6, 106) which separates the machine room (5) and the compartment (2), and an axial-type fan (7) situated in the machine room (5) which sucks the air in the outer environment from the airflow-in and which provides the condenser (4) and the compressor (3) to be cooled by blowing air thereon in the horizontal direction from the airflow-out.
  • The refrigerator (1) of the present invention comprises a divider (8)
  • - one end of which extends towards the fan (7) and the other end of which extends towards the upper side of the condenser (4) and the compressor (3) in the machine room (5),
  • - which at least partially surrounds the condenser (4) and the compressor (3) such that there is a gap (G) between the divider (8) and the wall (6, 106),
  • - separates the air flow in the axial direction formed by the fan (7) into two parts and directs one part of the air flow towards the gap (G) and the other part towards the condenser (4) and the compressor (3) .
  • The divider (8) is positioned at a level lower than the tip (T) of the fan (7) blade at the upper most position compared to the base and provides air to be blown from the portions close to the tips (T) of the fan (7) blades to the gap (G) and from the middle portion of the fan (7) to the condenser (4) and the compressor (3) by dividing the air flow in the axial direction into two.
  • In the refrigerator (1) of the present invention, the cooling air blown from the airflow-out of the fan (7) onto the condenser (4) and the compressor (3) is divided into two by the divider (8), and one part of the air flow is delivered to the gap (G) between the divider (8) and the walls (6,106) surrounding the machine room (5) while the other part of the air flow is delivered directly onto the condenser (4) and the compressor (3). Since the divider (8) is situated at a level between the tip (T) portion of the fan (7) blades and the fan (7) center, the air blown by the tip (T) portions of the fan (7) blades is directed to the gap (G) and the air blown from the middle portions of the fan (7) blades close to the center is directly directed to the condenser (4) and the compressor (3). The gap (G) serves as an efficient heat insulation region wherein air flow occurs between the condenser (4) and the compressor (3), and the walls (6, 106).
  • In an embodiment of the present invention, the refrigerator (1) comprises a fan (7) the diameter of which is determined such that the level of the blade tip (T) thereof exceeds the level of the uppermost points of the condenser (4) and the compressor (3). In this embodiment, the fan (7) with a greater diameter compared to the known embodiments is used such that the level of the tip (T) of the fan (7) blades compared to the base exceeds the level of the condenser (4) and the compressor (3) (Figure 1).
  • In another embodiment of the present invention, the divider (8) is produced from plastic plate, and by means of the low thermal conductivity characteristic of the plastic material the heat transfer from the condenser (4) and the compressor (3) towards the gap (G) and hence from the gap (G) towards the walls (6, 106) is reduced.
  • In another embodiment of the present invention, the refrigerator (1) comprises a horizontal top wall (6) which extends vertically from the rear and bottom portions of the body thereof to the inside and the common (joint) edges of which have preferably a curved structure, a vertical inner wall (106), and the single piece divider (8) which is placed in the machine room (5) by being bent so as to be parallel to the top wall (6) and the inner wall (106) and there remains a gap (G) therebetween and which covers the top and rear sides of the condenser (4) and the compressor (3) (Figure 3).
  • In another embodiment of the present invention, the refrigerator (1) comprises an extension (9) in curvilinear or inclined form which is situated on the portion of the divider (8) extending towards the fan (7) and which extends from the divider (8) towards the center of the fan (7) by bending and which directs the air blown from the tip (T) portion of the fan (7) blades to the gap (G) (Figure 2). In this embodiment, by taking advantage of the fact that the air flow in airflow-out of the fan (7) in the axial direction also proceeds in the radial direction by “opening”, the inclination angle of the extension (9) is determined to be suitable for the angle the air flow in the airflow-out of the fan (7) makes with the horizontal fan (7) axis. In this embodiment, differently from the embodiment explicated in Claim 2, the level of the tip (T) of the fan (7) blades compared to the base is not required to exceed the level of the condenser (4) and the compressor (3), and hence a fan (7) with a smaller diameter compared to the fan (7) explicated in Claim 2 can be used.
  • In another embodiment of the present invention, the fan (7) is operated in the refrigerator (1) stop periods during which the compressor (3) and the condenser (4) do not operate and the walls (6, 106) are prevented from heating by means of the natural heat convection from the compressor (3) and the condenser (4). In the stop periods of the compressor (3) and the condenser (4), the fan (7) is operated at a lower speed compared to the normal operation period of the refrigerator (1) and energy saving is provided.
  • In the refrigerator (1) of the present invention, the heat transfer from the condenser (4) and the compressor (3) towards the walls (6, 106) surrounding the machine room (5) is reduced, the temperature of the surfaces of the walls (6, 106) facing the machine room (5) is kept at almost the ambient temperature level, and thus a saving of 5% is provided in energy consumption by preventing the increase of temperature in the walls (6, 106) and hence in the compartment (2).
  • It is to be understood that the present invention is not limited by the embodiments disclosed above and a person skilled in the art can easily introduce different embodiments. These should be considered within the scope of the protection disclosed by the claims of the present invention.
