Claims (5)

  1. System for renting equipment or vehicles (10) formed by:
    - an authorising box (15) which is fastened to said equipment or vehicle (10) and which is connected to an arrangement for preventing the operation of the equipment or vehicle, which arrangement is adapted to be capable of preventing use of said equipment or vehicle, the authorising box being adapted to transmit a preventing signal to the preventing arrangement in the event of an intrusion being detected,
    - at least one console (30) which is separate from the equipment or vehicle and which is adapted to give access to a rental management server (40),
    - at least one security memory carrier (20),
    the security memory carrier being adapted to be connected alternatively to said authorising box (15) to allow the equipment or vehicle to be used or to the console (30) for the updating of the use of said equipment or vehicle,
    characterised in that the authorising box is provided with at least one first intrusion detecting device (95) which is adapted to detect an intrusion into said authorising box and which is connected to at least one second intrusion detecting device (96) which is adapted to detect an intrusion into the equipment or vehicle.
  2. System for renting equipment or vehicles according to claim 1, characterised in that the memory carrier (20) is a smart card.
  3. System for renting equipment or vehicles according to claim 1 or 2, characterised in that said console (30) is connected to the rental management server (30) via the internet (35).
  4. System for renting equipment or vehicles according to one of claims 1 to 3, characterised in that said authorising box (15) supplies said preventing signal if said memory carrier has not been updated.
  5. System for renting equipment or vehicles according to one of claims 1 to 4, characterised in that said updating of the memory carrier comprises verifying with the management server (40) whether payment for and/or maintenance of the equipment or vehicle has in fact been carried out.
