Abstract
Description
- This invention relates to a lock, which can typically be installed in a door. In particular, the invention relates to the lock body and bolt of the lock.
- It is known that a lock comprises a lock body and a front shield on the front side of the lock. The front side is the side of the lock, which remains in sight, when the lock is installed. The front shield has a hole for the bolt and possibly also for the control wedge, as well as for the function mode selector of the lock. In addition, the front shield comprises holes for attachment elements, such as screws.
- Attempts are made to manipulate locks to open it in an abnormal manner, i.e. in practice, an attempt is made to open the lock by means other than using a key. One manner of manipulation is to use a thin metal strip, which is pushed inside the lock body from the gap between the edge of the bolt hole on the front shield and the bolt. Using a metal strip that has been pushed inside, an attempt is made to manipulate the deadbolt elements of the bolt to open the lock, wherein the bolt is free to shift inside the lock body.
- One known means of preventing/hampering the penetrating of a metal strip is to form a recess to the side surface of the bolt. In this case, the metal strip penetrating into the lock body stops at the recess, nor is it free to advance deeper into the lock body. Although this solution prevents manipulation of the lock relatively well, it can be possible that a metal strip does not stop at the recess of the bolt.
- The object of the invention is to provide a solution, which prevents manipulation of a lock body through the bolt hole more effectively in comparison to known solutions. The object is achieved in the manner presented in the independent claim. The dependent claims present various embodiments of the invention. The idea of the invention is that a metal strip to be pushed inside the lock body is not free to advance into the lock body, even if it were to receive support from the side surface of the bolt or the side surface of the lock body. Advance of a metal strip or other strip pushed freely into the edge of the bolt or bolt hole is also prevented in the invention. In the embodiment according to the invention, there are projections both on the side of the bolt and on the side of the lock body. The projections face towards each other and settle against each other at least then, when the bolt is extended from the lock body.
- In the following, the invention is described in more detail by means of the accompanying figures, in which
- Fig. 1
- shows an example of a lock arrangement according to the invention,
- Fig. 2
- shows a detail of the example of
Fig. 1 , - Fig. 3
- shows an example of an embodiment according to the invention in a sectional view,
- Fig. 4
- shows another sectional view of the example of
Fig. 3 , and - Fig. 5
- shows another example of another embodiment according to the invention.
-
Fig. 1 shows an embodiment of a lock arrangement according to the invention, comprising alock body 1,front shield 2 andbolt 3. The front shield comprises abolt hole 4, through which thebolt 3 is moveable outwards from the lock body. When the lock is installed, for example, in a door and the bolt is in the exterior position, the bolt locks the door into the frame structure of the door acting as the counterpart of the door. When the bolt is not deadlocked, the bolt is free to shift inside the lock body, i.e. the door can be opened. As can be observed from the example ofFig. 1 , the lock body can also comprise acontrol wedge 2C, afunction mode selector 2D of the lock andholes 2E for attachment elements. Thefront shield 2 ofFig. 1 is shown in cross-section on the other side of thebolt hole 4, in order that the features of the invention can better be seen. -
Fig. 2 shows more specifically details of the embodiment ofFig. 1 . At least theother side 5 of a lock body according to the invention comprises afirst projection arrangement 6 facing towards theside surface 7 of the bolt, immediately behind thefront shield 2 at the site of thebolt hole 4, more specifically, at the site of the edge of the bolt hole. Theside surface 7 of the bolt comprises asecond projection arrangement 8 facing towards theside 5 of the lock body. Theprojection arrangements bolt 3 is extended from thelock body 1. - The
first projection arrangement 6 of the embodiment shown inFigs. 1 and 2 comprisesfirst projections 6 side-by-side in the vertical direction of thelock body 1, and thesecond projection arrangement 8 on theside surface 7 of the bolt comprises second side-by-side projections 8 in the vertical direction of the lock body. Directional line A shown inFig. 1 illustrates the vertical direction of the lock body. The second projections settle between the first projections at least then, when thebolt 3 is in the extended position. - Because both the
side surface 7 of the bolt and theside 5 of the lock body comprise a projection arrangement, which settle against each other, they efficiently prevent the penetrating of a metal strip inside the lock body. The metal strip is not free to advance along theside surface 7 of the bolt, the inside surface of the lock body of theside 5 of the lock body or freely in the gap between the edge of the bolt hole and the side surface of bolt, as it strikes against at least one or the other of the projection arrangements. - In addition, from the embodiment of
Fig. 1 , it can be observed that thefirst projections 6 are longitudinal projections in the longitudinal direction of thebolt 3. Directional line B shown inFig. 3 illustrates the longitudinal direction of the bolt. However, theprojections 6 of the side of the lock body do not need to be longitudinal, rather they can also be short in the longitudinal direction of bolt (for example, as long as their width), wherein they are then, as a whole, in the immediate vicinity of thefront shield 2. -
Fig. 3 shows a sectional view of thebolt 3 and thelock body 1. The bolt is often thicker at the tip part, which can be extended. The front surface of the bolt is generally also bevelled. Theback part 3A of the bolt, which is inside the lock body, is ordinarily thinner, i.e. lighter in structure than thetip part 3 of the bolt. Thus, material is saved. The sectional view ofFig. 3 is taken of theside 5 of the lock body at the site of theprojection 6.Fig. 2 shows a corresponding sectional view of thebolt 3 at the site of theprojection 8. InFigs. 1, 2 ,3 and 5 , the bolt is in the extended position, into which it can be locked using the dead-bolting means of the lock (not shown in the figures). -
Fig. 5 shows another embodiment according to the invention, in which thefirst projection arrangement 6A is the edge of theside 5 of the lock body against theback surface 2A of the front shield, which edge is bent. The edge is alongitudinal projection 6A in the vertical direction of the lock body. The projection faces towards thebolt 3 at the site of the bolt hole. Thesecond projection arrangement 9 is also a longitudinal projection on the side of thebolt 3 in the vertical direction of the lock body. - Although
Figs. 3, 4, and 5 show such embodiments, in whichprojection arrangements longer side 7 of thebolt 3 and on its opposite side of the lock body, it is also possible that the projection arrangements are also on theother side 7A of the bolt and on the other side of the lock body. It is also possible that on the other side of the bolt is a projection arrangement according toFigs. 3 and 4 and on the opposite side of the bolt is a projection arrangement according toFig. 5 . - In addition, it is also possible that the
projection arrangement 6A is the edge on theside 5 of the lock body against theback surface 2A of the front shield according toFig. 5 , but in which projections are side-by-side in the vertical direction of thelock body 1 at the site of the bolt hole, i.e. thebent edge 6A ofFig. 5 resembles a cogged edge (in the manner ofFig. 2 ). Thesecond projection arrangement 8 in the bolt comprises second side-by-side projections in the vertical direction of the lock body according toFigs. 2 and4 . - In light of the examples described above, it is obvious that the invention can be implemented in various ways within the scope of the claims.
