Definitions
- the present invention relates to a door for a household cooking appliance, particular an oven. More in particular, the invention relates to a door of this sort having concealed handle device, provided with a mechanism of a push-push type. Background of the invention
- These known handle devices basically comprise a handle body, which is hinged to a corresponding supporting structure so as to turn about an axis generally parallel to the axis of rotation of the door.
- the push-push mechanism Associated to the handle device is the push-push mechanism, which is able to assume a locking condition and a release condition.
- the handle body In the locking condition of the mechanism, the handle body is substantially flush with the front surface of the door.
- the push-push mechanism occurs, and hence passage thereof to the release condition, which enables the handle body to assume a respective open condition: in said condition, the handle body can be gripped by a user of the household appliance with his or her hand, in order to open the door.
- the handle devices provided with a push-push mechanism are in general complex from a constructional standpoint, as well as relatively problematical and expensive to assemble and install. Said devices of a known type prove moreover far from suited for applications in which the handle body must extend almost the whole width of the door.
- the object of the present invention is basically to overcome one or more of the aforesaid drawbacks, and in particular to provide a door for a household cooking appliance, in particular an oven, provided with a handle device that is simple and inexpensive to produce, reliable in operation, and extremely simplified to install.
- a further object of the invention is to provide a door of the above sort in which the handle device extends almost throughout the whole width of the door, at the same time guaranteeing a precise and reliable operation.
- Figures 3 and 4 are views similar to those of Figures 1 and 2, but with the handle device in the closed condition;
- FIG. 5 is a partially exploded view of the door of Figures 1-4;
- FIG. 6 is a rear view in elevation of a frame of the door of Figures 1-5;
- FIG. 7 is an exploded view of a handle device of a door according to the invention, for example the door of Figures 1-5;
- FIG. 9 is a further exploded view of the handle device of Figure 7;
- FIG. 12 is a further partial exploded view of the handle device of Figures 7 and 9;
- Figures 14 and 15 are a rear view in elevation and a view from above, respectively, of a component of the handle device of Figures 7, 9 and 12;
- FIG. 17 is a cross section, at an enlarged scale, according to the line XVII-XVII of Figure 14.
- references to "an embodiment” or “one embodiment” in the framework of this description is meant to indicate that a particular configuration, structure, or characteristic described in relation to the embodiment is comprised in at least one embodiment.
- phrases such as “in an embodiment” or “in one embodiment” and the like that may be present in different points of this description do not necessarily all refer to one and the same embodiment.
- the particular configurations, structures, or characteristics can be combined in any adequate way in one or more embodiments.
- the references used in what follows are only provided for convenience and do not define the sphere of protection or the scope of the embodiments.
- FIG. 1 designated as a whole by 1 is a door for a household cooking appliance according to the present invention.
- the door 1 is provided at the opening of a cooking chamber or muffle of a domestic oven.
- the door is hinged in a bottom region thereof to the structure of the oven so as to turn about a substantially horizontal axis.
- the door 1 comprises a door frame, designated as a whole by 2, which has a structure that comprises two vertical sides 3 and 4, connected at the respective ends via two transverse elements 5 and 6.
- the frame 2 substantially defines a mounting frame for a closing panel, designated as a whole by 7.
- the panel 7, which is preferably a panel made of tempered glass, is fixed to the frame 2.
- the frame 2 has a body made of plastic material to which the glass panel 7 is fixed via gluing.
- a handle device Associated to the frame 2, in an upper part thereof, is a handle device, designated as a whole by 10 in Figure 5.
- the handle device 10 comprises a supporting body, designated as a whole by 20, which is to be mounted on the frame 2 above the panel 6.
- the handle device 10 further comprises a handle body, designated as a whole by 30, which is mounted movable on the supporting body 20 in order to be able to assume a closed position and an open position.
- the handle body 30 projects from a front plane of the door, for example the plane defined by the front surface of the panel 6, so that it can be gripped by a user.
- Shown, instead, in Figures 3 and 4 is the closed position of the handle body 30, in which the body itself cannot be gripped.
- a corresponding covering panel is applied, designated by 40.
- this panel 40 is made of glass and, in the closed condition of the handle body 30, the panel 40 is substantially flush with the panel 6, as may be clearly appreciated, for example, from Figure 4.
- the handle device 10 comprises a catch mechanism, described hereinafter, substantially of a push-push type, i.e., one that can be switched between respective conditions of locking and release via a slight pressure of the handle body 30 towards the respective closed position.
- the device 10 moreover includes elastic means, described hereinafter, mounted so as to bias the handle body 30 constantly towards the respective open position.
- the handle body 30 has, in the rear face thereof, i.e., its own face generally facing the supporting body 20, at least one contrast element, designated by 31 in Figures 9, 10, 14, 16 and 17.
- the contrast element 31 is substantially configured as a projection projecting from the aforesaid rear face of the handle body 30.
- the projection that provides the contrast element 31 is made integrally in the body itself, which is preferably made of a single piece of thermoplastic material obtained by moulding.
- the contrast element 31 has a head 31a generally enlarged with respect to a corresponding stem. In the example illustrated, this head 31a includes two opposite inclined surfaces.
- the supporting body 20 has, in its own front face, i.e., its own face generally facing the handle body 30, at least one seat for receiving a catch mechanism of a push-push type.
- the aforesaid seat designated as a whole by 21 for example in Figures 8, 12 and 13, is designed to receive the casing of a respective catch mechanism, designated in the aforesaid figures by 22.
- the seat 21 is defined integrally in the supporting body 20, which is preferably also made of a single piece of moulded thermoplastic material.
- the casing of the mechanism 22 is designated by 23.
- the casing 23 of the mechanism 22 and the corresponding receiving seat 21 are configured for mutual engagement, in particular a snap-action engagement.
- the casing 23 has, on two opposite walls, a respective engagement tooth, only one of which is visible, designated by 23a, designed to engage in a corresponding slit 21a - see Figure 8 - made in a homologous wall of the seat 21.
- the casing 23 has a generally parallelepipedal shape, open at the front end and closed at the rear end, and the seat 21 has a respective cavity having a cross section substantially complementary to the cross section of the casing 23.
- the shape of the casing 23 and of the seat 21 may be different from the one exemplified, it being understood that, preferentially, the type of engagement between the two parts in question is an engagement of a fast-coupling type.
- the catch mechanism 22 includes a pair of arms 22a, generally shaped like a jaw, preferably projecting from the front from the casing 23.
- the arms 22a are mounted with respect to the corresponding casing 23 in such a way that, in the release condition of the mechanism 22, the arms themselves are in a wide apart configuration, so as to be able to receive freely the head 31a of the corresponding contrast element 31 between them; in the locking condition of the mechanism 22, the arms 22a are, instead, in a generally mutually approached condition, adapted for withholding the head 31a of the contrast element 31 between them.
- the mechanism 22 also comprises a movable body 22b, partially housed within the casing 23 in such a way that its front part is accessible on the front of the casing itself.
- the movable body 22b is biased by an elastic element (not visible) towards the outside of the casing 23, or in any case into a position such that the top of the head 31a of the contrast element 31 can press thereon.
- the movable body 22b basically has the function of controlling approach or recession in rotation of the two arms 22a.
- the two contrast elements 31 and the two seats 21 are preferably defined in opposite lateral regions of the handle body 30 and of the supporting body 20, respectively.
- This arrangement guarantees a good balance in engagement and a good alignment of the handle body 30, when it assumes the respective closed position.
- the presence of a pair of mechanisms 22 is particularly useful in those embodiments in which, as in the case exemplified here, the concealed handle of a door for an electrical household cooking appliance - i.e., the supporting body 20 and the handle body 30 - have a length at least equal to the minimum distance between the two vertical sides 3 and 4 of the door frame 2.
- the handle device has as a whole a length substantially equal to the width of the panel 7.
- the front face of the supporting body 20 includes at least one generally hollow region, open at the front, and it is within this portion that a corresponding seat 21 is defined.
- the position of the mechanism 22 is generally set back with respect to the general plane of the handle body 30 when it is in the closed position, and this enables, in a simple way, the body itself to be "hidden away” in said position; i.e., the panel 40 is substantially flush with the panel 7.
- the front face of the supporting body 20 includes a main wall 24, which is substantially plane and extends between two generally hollow regions, designated by 25.
- each hollow region 25 has a respective end wall 25a (see, for example, Figures 8 and 11) that is in a position generally set back with respect to the wall 24.
- a respective seat 21 defined in each hollow region 25 is a respective seat 21.
- the seats 21 are formed integrally with the end wall 25a, but other embodiments are evidently possible. In any case, preferably, the seats 21 are in a position set back with respect to the front surface of the main wall 24, for the reason previously explained.
- the handle body 30 is hinged to the supporting body 20 so as to turn about a respective axis of rotation, not indicated.
- the axis of rotation of the handle body 30 is substantially parallel to the axis of rotation of the door 1 , the frame 2 of which - as has been said - is hinged in a bottom region of its own, with means in themselves known, to the body of the cooking appliance (here not represented).
- each hollow region 25 is delimited laterally by an outer wall 25b of the supporting body 20.
- This wall 25b is preferentially generally perpendicular to the main wall 24, and formed therein is a through hole 26 for receiving a respective pin 27 for rotation of the handle body 30.
- the handle body 30 has also two opposite side walls, designated by 32, which are generally perpendicular to the front face of the body 30, which is substantially plane, designated by 30a.
- a substantially cylindrical hollow housing open towards the external part of the body 30, designated by 33 for example in Figures 7, 9 and 12.
- a bushing 34 (just one of which is represented) is designed to be received, having a respective axial cavity 34a in which a respective rotation pin 27 is partially inserted.
- the bushing 34 is preferentially made of a resilient material and basically has the function of exerting friction on the movement of rotation of the handle body 20, in particular when this passes from the closed position to the open position, under the action of the elastic means described hereinafter.
- the handle device 10 has means constituting an end-of-travel for the movement of opening of the handle body.
- a projection 35 is provided, generally projecting towards the supporting body 20.
- the projection 35, or else each projection 35 has at the end a respective stop element 35a, projecting from the corresponding projection 35 in a direction substantially perpendicular with respect to the wall 32 of the handle body 30.
- a slit is formed, designated as a whole by 28 for example in Figures 8 and 11.
- the side walls 32 of the former are generally parallel to the outer walls 25b of the latter, with the stop elements 35a that are constrained in a movable way within a corresponding slit 28, i.e., in such a way as to enable the movement of rotation of the handle body 30 with respect to the supporting body 30 about the hinge axis determined by the pins 27.
- each stop element 35 a is able to co-operate at least with the end of the slit 28 facing the handle body 30, in order to determine a mechanical end-of-travel of the latter in its open position.
- at least one of the projection 35 is elastically deformable, in order to enable insertion of the corresponding stop element 35a within the corresponding slit 28.
- the aforesaid end-of-travel means comprise a plurality of teeth or projections in relief, defined in an upper region of the body 30, preferably in an intermediate position with respect to the housings 33, said teeth or projections in relief coming into contrast with the upper edge of the supporting body 20 when the body 30 is in its position of complete opening.
- the main wall 24 of the supporting body 20 integrally defines housing means for the elastic means that constantly bias the handle body 30 towards the respective open position.
- housing means for the elastic means that constantly bias the handle body 30 towards the respective open position.
- Each housing 29 is configured such that the corresponding spring 50 is constrained inside it so as to extend axially substantially in the same direction as the axis of rotation of the handle body 30.
- the spring 50 has an end 50a designed to come into contrast with the supporting body 20, whilst the other end 50b is designed to come into contrast with the handle body 30.
- a slidable point of constraint for the end 50b of the spring 50 may, for example, be obtained via two small vertical walls, designated by 51 in Figure 16, which extend parallel to define between them a space for receiving and guiding the end 50b of the spring 50.
- a corresponding covering panel 40 fixed to the front face of the handle body 30, in particular via gluing, is a corresponding covering panel 40.
- This panel 40 which is clearly visible for example in Figures 7 and 9, has a generally narrow and elongated configuration, and is conveniently made of glass, so as to be homogeneous from a design point of view with the panel 7.
- both the supporting body 20 and the handle body 30 are entirely made of thermoplastic material and can be obtained via moulding.
- the aforesaid bodies have appropriate passages, necessary for positioning and movement of die slides forming part of the moulding equipment, for example necessary to form the possible undercut elements.
- the door frame 2 is made of plastic material.
- Figure 6 illustrates the face of the frame 2 generally facing the inside of the cooking appliance, i.e., the face opposite to the one partially visible in Figures 1-5.
- holes are provided, designated by 2a, via which the supporting body 20 can be fixed to the frame 2 via threaded members, for example screws.
- the supporting body 20 has corresponding through holes, designated by 56 in Figures 11-13.
- the solution according to the present invention is extremely advantageous in so far as it simplifies considerably and facilitates production of the handle device 10, and hence of the door 1 as a whole.
- the catch mechanisms 22 are configured as individual components, and are basically commercially available components. The fact that they can be mounted in corresponding seats 21 facilitates assembly of the handle device considerably, as compared to known solutions, and this advantage is further enhanced in the preferred case of a snap- action engagement of the casing 23 of the mechanisms in the corresponding seats 21.
- the seats 21 can be obtained integrally in the supporting body further simplifies production of the device, reducing the overall cost thereof. Similar considerations obviously apply in relation to the fact that other functional elements of the handle device 10 are preferentially obtained integrally in the body 20 or in the body 30, during the operations of moulding of the bodies themselves, such as the contrast elements 31, the end-of-travel means represented by the projection 35 and the slits 28, the housings 29 for the springs 50, etc.
- the solution illustrated, with two lateral contrast elements 31 and two seats 21 for respective mechanisms 22, is particularly advantageous in applications in which the handle body 20 extends for the most part of the width of the door, as, precisely, in the case exemplified. In this way, a precise engagement in the two opposite areas of the handle body 30 is guaranteed.
- the alignment and balancing of the handle body 30 is evidently enhanced also thanks to the fact that two distinct elastic elements are provided, represented by the springs 50.
- the assembling of the bodies 20 and 30 is extremely simple.
- the mechanisms 22 and constrained in the housings 29 are the corresponding springs 50.
- the bushings 34 are inserted in the corresponding housings 33.
- the bushings 34 have a peripheral relief (not visible in the figures), designed to engage in an axial groove (visible for example in Figure 12, not indicated) defined in the housing 33 so as to prevent rotation of the bushings thereof.
- one or both of the projections 35 are deformed elastically in order to be able to insert the arrest elements 35a within the grooves 28.
- the rotation pins 27 are then driven with interference fit in the holes 26, care being taken that an axially extensive portion thereof is inserted in the axial passage 34a of the bushings 34.
- applied on the front surface 30a of the handle body 30 is the covering panel 40, for example via gluing.
- the supporting body 20 is then fixed to the front-upper part of the frame 2, exploiting the presence of the holes 2a of the frame and the holes 56 of the body 30.
- self-tapping screws can be used, which are screwed starting from the holes 2a, from the back of the frame 2, and are designed to form an internal screw within the holes 56.
- the body 20 could also be fixed to the frame 2 before coupling of the handle body 30 thereto, in which case the self-tapping screws may be screwed starting from the holes 56, from the front of the body 30, to form an internal screw within the holes 2a.
- the handle body 30 is angularly movable with respect to the supporting body 30.
- the handle body could be mounted, by guide means, so as to slide linearly with respect to the supporting body, for example via guides made in the side walls, or else the top and bottom walls, of the supporting body and of the handle body.
- elastic means will be provided for biasing the handle body into the corresponding open position, these means possibly being for example represented by helical or leaf springs.
- contrast elements will be provided functionally similar to the ones previously designated by 31.
- the seats 21 for the mechanisms 22 will be made; also in an embodiment of this sort, preferentially, said seats will be in a position generally set back with respect to the position assumed by the rear face of the handle body when it is in the closed condition.
