Abstract

An oven for cooking food comprises a cooking compartment (2) and a door (3) providing access to the cooking compartment (2), the door (3) being able to move between a first position in which it allows access to the cooking compartment (2) and a second position in which it prevents access to the cooking compartment (2), the door (3) comprising: - a first plate (31); - a second plate (32) which is substantially parallel with the first plate (31); - a frame (33) connected to the first plate (31), at least partly interposed between the first and second plates (31, 32) and comprising retaining means (330) for the second plate (32); - a locking profile (34) for the second plate (32) which is in contact with the second plate (32) and which, operating in conjunction with the retaining means (330), allows positioning of the second plate (32); - means (35) for connecting the profile (34) to the frame (33). The profile (34) has a main direction of extension and following said main direction of extension it extends along a stretch of a perimetric edge (36) of the door (3).

Description

"COOKING OVEN"
DESCRIPTION
This invention relates to a an oven for cooking food.
There are prior art cooking ovens comprising a door with a frame having the shape of an inverted "U" and extending between a first end and a second end of the inverted "U". At least when the door is closed the concavity is pointing downwards. Inside the concavity formed by said inverted "U" several quadrilateral panels are inserted parallel with each other. In particular, the panels are inserted in the frame passing through the space interposed between the first end and the second end (through the open side of the frame having the shape of an inverted "U"). Inside the frame, three sides of the panels rest on suitable supporting guides. At the two ends of the frame having the shape of an inverted "U", corresponding locking elements are coupled, which secure the panels, preventing them from coming out of the frame. The locking elements support the weight of the panels, acting only at two ends of a lower side of the panels.
In this context, the technical purpose which forms the basis of this invention is to provide a cooking oven which allows improvement of the structural stiffness of the door, at the same time keeping door assembly simple and easy.
The technical purpose and aims specified are substantially achieved by a cooking oven and a method for obtaining it comprising the technical features set out in one or more of the appended claims.
Further features and advantages of the invention are more apparent in the non-limiting description which follows of a preferred non-exclusive embodiment of a cooking oven illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:

This invention relates to an oven 1 for cooking food. The oven 1 comprises a cooking compartment 2 and a door 3 providing access to the cooking compartment 2 (known as a muffle to experts in the field). The door 3 can move between a first position (shown by way of example in Figure 1) in which it allows access to the cooking compartment 2 and a second position in which it prevents access to the cooking compartment 2. In the second position the door 3 is substantially vertical. The oven 1 comprises a casing 20 forming the cooking compartment 2. The door 3 is connected to the casing 20 and in the second position the door completely occludes an access opening to the compartment 2.
The door 3 comprises:
- a first plate 31 which advantageously has at least one at least partly transparent portion;
- a second plate 32 which is substantially parallel with the first plate 31 and which advantageously has at least one at least partly transparent portion. The expression "an at least partly transparent portion" refers to a portion of material which allows a user to see through it at least in a particular oven 1 operating configuration (for example, when the light in the cooking compartment 2 is switched on).
With the door 3 in the second position, the second plate 32 at least partly faces the cooking compartment 2. The first plate 31 is towards the outside of the oven 1.
The thickness of the door 3 extends in a direction at a right angle to the first plate 31 or to the second plate 32. The thickness of the door 3 substantially extends between the first and second plates 31, 32. The first and second plates 31, 32 allow a user to monitor the cooking of a dish (for example, if they are at least partly transparent).
The door 3 comprises a frame 33 connected to the first plate 31 , the frame being at least partly interposed between the first and second plates 31, 32. Advantageously, the frame 33 is practically completely interposed between the first and second plates 31, 32. Advantageously, the first plate 31 is irremovably connected to the frame 33. The first plate 31 is preferably glued to the frame 33. The frame 33 comprises retaining means 330 for the second plate 32. For example, the retaining means 330 comprise at least one hook 3410. The retaining means 330 preferably comprise a plurality of hooks 3410.
The second plate 32 is a quadrilateral plate and comprises a first, a second, a third and a fourth side 311, 312, 313, 314. The terms first, second, third, fourth side 311 , 312, 313, 314 refer not only to a portion of the surface of the second plate 32 whose thickness extends between a first and a second flat surface of the plate 32, but also to a corresponding portion of an imaginary perimetric border lying on the first and on the second surfaces of the second plate 32 and extending between the first and second plates 31 , 32. The frame 33 at least partly faces the first, second, third and fourth sides 311, 312, 313, 314. In particular, the first, second, third and fourth sides 311, 312, 313, 314 are in contact with the frame 33. The second and fourth sides 312, 314 are interposed between the first and third sides 311, 313. When the door 3 is in the second position, the first side 311 is the lower side. Therefore, it is lower down (relative to the physical vertical) than the second, third and fourth sides 312, 313, 314.
Advantageously, the retaining means 330 act on the first and/or on the second and/or on the third side and/or on the fourth side 331, 332, 333, 334 of the second plate 32.
The hook 3410 obstructs movement of the second plate 32 according to a vector which from the centre of the second plate 32 (when the second plate 32 is positioned on the door 3) is directed towards the third side 313.
In the preferred embodiment, the retaining means 330 (in particular the hook or the hooks 3410) also help to obstruct movement of the second plate 32 away from the frame 33.
The retaining means 330 advantageously comprise a first and a second contact element 331, 332 (see for example Figure 13). The first contact element 331 comprises a first projection extending away from the frame 33 and is designed to make contact with the second side 312 of the second plate 32. The first contact element 331 obstructs movement of the second plate 32 according to a vector which from the centre of the second plate 32 (when the second plate 32 is positioned on the door 3) is directed towards the second side 312. The second contact element 332 comprises a second projection extending away from the frame 33 and is designed to make contact with the fourth side 314. The second contact element 332 obstructs movement of the second plate 32 according to a vector which from the centre of the second plate 32 (when the second plate 32 is positioned on the door 3) is directed towards the fourth side 314. The retaining means 330 may also comprise a third and/or a fourth contact element 333, 334. The third contact element 333 comprises a third projection extending away from the frame 33 and is designed to make contact with the first side 311 of the second plate 32. The third contact element 333 obstructs movement of the second plate 32 according to a vector which from the centre of the second plate 32 (when the second plate 32 is positioned on the door 3) is directed towards the first side 31 1. The fourth contact element 334 advantageously comprises the features described above with reference to the third contact element 333. In the embodiment illustrated by way of example, without thereby limiting the scope of the invention, the first contact element 331 forms a single part with the third contact element 333. Similarly, the second contact element 332 forms a single part with the fourth contact element 334. In that case the assembly comprising the first and third contact elements 331, 333 forms, for example, an "L"-shaped body. Similarly, the assembly comprising the second and third contact elements 332, 333 may form an "L"-shaped body. The door 3 comprises a locking profile 34 for the second plate 32 which, operating in conjunction with the retaining means 330, allows locking of the second plate 32. The door 3 also comprises means 35 for connecting the profile 34 to the frame 33. The connecting means 35 are preferably of the removable type, to facilitate at least partial disassembly of the door 3 components, for example to allow maintenance, substitution or cleaning of the plates. For example, they comprise threaded element and, if necessary (light) interference fit couplings. Advantageously, the threaded connections comprise two connecting screws located at opposite ends of the profile 34. Even more advantageously, at opposite ends of the profile 34 there are two groove elements 397 which receive with an interference fit corresponding tongue elements 398 shaped to match the groove element and made on the frame 33, giving greater strength to the connection between the profile 34 and the frame 33. The profile 34 has a main direction of extension. In particular, the profile 34 following the main direction of extension extends along a stretch of a lateral edge 36 of the door 3. Said stretch of the lateral edge 36, at least with the door 3 in the second position, is the lower edge of the door 3. Advantageously, the profile 34 itself forms the stretch of the lateral edge 36. Moreover, the profile 34 faces the first side 311 of the second plate 32.
The frame 33 is made as a single part. In particular, the frame 33 forms a border closed on itself. Said border extends without interruptions. The frame 33 (or border) comprises two uprights 335, 336 and two crosspieces 337, 338 (see for example Figure 3). When the door 3 is in the second position the two uprights 335, 336 are substantially vertical. The two crosspieces 337, 338 connect the two uprights 335, 336 and are interposed between them. The two crosspieces 337, 338 normally always remain horizontal in the various configurations adopted by the door 3. The frame 33 is made of plastic material. Advantageously, the frame 33 is made of plastic material by means of a moulding process, which is economically advantageous.
The profile 34 comprises first and second gripper means 342a, 342b for the second plate 32, a portion of the second plate 32 being partly interposed between the first and second gripper means 342a, 342b.
The oven 1 comprises a condensation collection channel 344 below the second plate 32 when the door 3 is in the second position. The condensation collection channel 344 is designed to collect the condensation which forms on the second plate 32 and runs down due to gravity.
The door 3 comprises a hollow space 37 for the passage of a fluid (normally having a slight overpressure). The fluid is usually air. It has a cooling action on the door 3, to minimise the risk that the user will be burnt if he touches the first plate 31. The hollow space 37 is at least partly interposed between the first and second plates 31, 32 and extends between a fluid inlet section 371 into the door 3 and a fluid outlet section 372 from the door 3.
There is a first imaginary plane passing through the first plate 31 and integral and parallel with the first plate 31. There is also a second imaginary plane passing through the second plate 32 and integral and parallel with the second plate 32. The locking profile 34 comprises a first deflector 340 positioned at the fluid outlet section 372 from the door 3 for giving the fluid a trajectory comprising a motion component directed from the second plane towards the first plane. In this way, the airflow exiting the hollow space 37 will be directed towards the free space in front of the front part of the oven 1 , minimising contact with any furniture placed below the oven 1. A single component (the profile 34), in addition to having structural functions, has important fluid dynamic functions. This allows optimisation of the costs and simplification of the structure of the door 3 of the oven 1.
The oven 1 comprises movement means for the fluid.
The casing 20 comprises a fluid outlet slot 200 from the casing 2. The fluid inlet section 371 into the door 3, at least when the door 3 is in the second position, is towards the casing 20. In particular, the fluid inlet section 371 into the door 3, at least with the door 3 in the second position, is opposite the outlet slot 200. The door (3) comprises a second deflector 341 for diverting the fluid arriving from the outlet slot 200, channelling the fluid into a portion of the hollow space 37 interposed between the first and second plates 31 , 32. The second deflector 341 causes a 90° diversion of the fluid. In particular, the fluid which arrives from the slot 200 following a substantially horizontal trajectory is diverted downwards by the second deflector 341. The second deflector 341 delimits the hollow space 37 immediately downstream of the inlet section 371. The inlet section 371 is formed by the combination of the second deflector 341 and the second plate 32. The movement means are outside the door 3 and are made in the casing 20. For example, the movement means are a fan which draws the fluid (air) from outside the oven. After being conveyed inside the casing 20, the fluid exits the casing 20 through the outlet slot 200 (inside the casing 20 said fluid is advantageously used for cooling the oven 1 electronics). The fluid exiting the casing 20 therefore enters the door 2 through the inlet section 371. With reference to the door 3 in the second position, the inlet section 371 is above the second plate 32.
Inside the hollow space 37 the fluid moves from the top downwards.
The door 3 may comprise an intermediate plate 38 (which advantageously has a portion that is at least partly transparent) which is interposed between the first and second plates 31, 32. Advantageously, the first plate 31 and/or the second plate 32 and/or the intermediate plate 38 are at least partly made of glass.
At least a perimetric portion 381 of the intermediate plate 38 is:
- in contact with the frame 33 and the profile 34;
- interposed between the frame 33 and the profile 34.
Appropriately the door 3 comprises locking means 380 for the intermediate plate 38. The locking means 380 for the intermediate plate 38 comprise supports 382 which prevent the intermediate plate 38 from moving towards the first plate 31 (see for example Figure 13). Moreover, the frame 33 comprises an edging portion 383 which surrounds the intermediate plate 38, preventing the latter from moving parallel with the plane in which it lies (the edging portion 383 being part of the locking means 380). The locking means 380 comprise retainers 384 which prevent the intermediate plate 38 from moving away from the first plate 31.
The retainers 384 comprise a stop 385 which is part of the profile 34 (see Figure 11).
The retainers 384 operate in conjunction with the supports 382 to lock the intermediate plate
38 in position.
The retainers 384 also comprise at least one locking tooth 386. The at least one tooth 386 is an integral part of the frame 33 (see for example Figure 8) and acts along the perimeter of the intermediate plate 38 (appropriately, it acts on one side of the intermediate plate 38, separate from that on which the stop 385 which is part of the profile 34 acts; when the door is in the second position the stop 385 acts on the lower side of the intermediate plate 38, while the tooth 386 acts on the upper side of the intermediate plate 38).
Appropriately, the intermediate plate 38 is in contact with the frame 33. Advantageously, all of the sides of the intermediate plate 38 (usually a quadrilateral) rest on and are in contact with the frame 33.
If an intermediate plate 38 is present, the hollow space 37 is interposed between the intermediate plate 38 and the second plate 32.
Appropriately, the door 3 comprises a first part 39 of the door lock designed to interact with the second part 39a of the door lock which is integral with the casing 2. The door lock prevents accidental opening of the door 3 during at least some steps of cooking of dishes (preventing the user from being struck by steam or hot gases exiting the cooking compartment 2) and/or during high temperature operating cycles, such as an oven self- cleaning pyrolytic cycle.
The first part 39 of the door lock (see for example Figures 3 and 12) comprises a threaded blind hole 390 and is connected to the frame 33 by at least one connecting screw 391 which engages in the threaded blind hole 390.
The frame 33 comprises at least one flap 339 interposed between the first plate 31 and the first part 39 of the door lock, the flap 339 comprising at least one through hole 392 having a first end 393 abutting the blind hole 390 and a second end 394 blocked by the first plate 31 (in this way the through hole 392 is not immediately visible from the outside; if necessary, the first plate 31 at that zone could comprise silk-screen printing or other coverings which make the through hole 392 invisible from the outside). Inserted in said at least one through hole 392 is the connecting screw 391 which engages in the corresponding threaded blind hole 390 of the door lock 39, the connecting screw 391 comprising a threaded shank 395 and a head 396. At a right angle to the main direction of extension of the screw 391, the head 396 is larger in size than the shank 395, part of the frame 33 flap 339 remaining interposed between the first part 39 of the door lock and the head 396. The head 396 remains positioned inside the through hole 293. Advantageously, there are two connecting screws 391 which engage in corresponding blind holes 390 in the first part 39 of the door lock, passing through two through holes 392 in the frame 33 flap 339.
In a different embodiment the first part 39 of the door lock could advantageously be made as a single part with the frame 33.
The door 3 also comprises a handle 4. The handle 4 is gripped by the user for moving the door 3 between the first and second positions.
The handle 4 comprises means 40 for connecting with at least one hole 41 made in the frame 33 (see for example Figure 2). The connecting means 40 comprise at least one insert 42 which passes through a suitable through opening 310 made in the first plate 31 (see Figure 3).
In the preferred embodiment, the handle 4 has a main longitudinal extension and is connected to the frame 33 at two opposite ends 43, 44. At said opposite ends 43, 44 the connecting means 40 comprise two corresponding inserts 42 which, passing through the first plate 31, are inserted in two corresponding holes 41 made in the frame 33. Advantageously, on the frame 33 there is a plurality of holes 41 for allowing the connection of handles 4 of different lengths. There are usually two or more pairs of holes 41 which are aligned along a straight line. The holes 41 of each pair are grouped one in a first zone 45 of the frame 33 and one in a second zone 46 of the frame 33, the second zone 46 of the frame 33 being spaced from the first zone 45 of the frame 33. Preferably, depending on the handle 4 length selected, corresponding through opening 310 must be made in the first plate 31.
The frame 33 also comprises two cavities in which it is possible to insert corresponding supporting brackets 53, 54 for a hinge 50 for connecting the door 3 to the remaining parts of the oven 1. The two cavities are made at the lower portion of the two uprights 335, 336 of the frame 33.
This invention also relates to a method for making a door 3 for an oven 1 for cooking food. The oven 1 has one or more of the technical features described above. In particular, the method comprises the following steps:
- connecting a first plate 31 (which advantageously has at least one partly transparent portion) to a supporting frame 33;
- resting a second plate 32 (which advantageously has at least one partly transparent portion) against the supporting frame 33, this step comprising connecting the second plate 32 to retaining means 330 which are part of the frame 33, the frame 33 remaining at least partly interposed between the first and second plates 31, 32;
- locking the second plate 32, this step coming after the step of resting the second plate 32 against the frame 33.
The step of locking the second plate 32 comprises the step of connecting to the frame 33 a locking profile 34 for the second plate 32, said profile 34 having a mainly linear extension and extending along an edge 36 of the door 3.
Before the step of connecting the first plate 31 to a supporting frame 33, the method comprises connecting a first part 39 of a door lock in a suitable recess in the frame 33, the first part 39 being designed to interact with a second part 39a of the door lock which is located on the casing 2. The step of connecting the first part 39 of the door lock in the recess in the frame 33 is carried out by inserting a connecting screw in a through hole in the frame 33 and screwing it into a threaded blind hole in the first part 39 of the door lock.
The connecting screw is inserted in the through hole by inserting it from one end of the hole which is subsequently blocked by connecting the first plate 31 to the frame 33. The step of applying the first plate 31 to the frame 33 comprises gluing the first plate 31 to the frame 33. For that purpose adhesive connecting means are distributed in various zones of the frame 33. This allows an improved grip between the first plate 31 and the frame 33. The method also comprises the step of inserting in two cavities in the frame 33 corresponding supporting brackets 53, 54 for a hinge for connecting the door 3 to the remaining parts of the oven 1.
The method also comprises connecting to the frame 33 a handle 4 for opening and closing the door 3.
The step of connecting the handle 4 comprises inserting connecting means 40 which are integral with the handle in at least one suitable hole 41 made in the frame 33 through a through opening 310 in the first plate 31 , said first plate 31 remaining interposed between the frame 33 and the handle 4. Preferably, the step of connecting the handle 4 comprises inserting at least two projections integral with the handle 4 in corresponding holes 41 in the frame 33, passing through corresponding through openings 310 in the first plate 31, said first plate 31 remaining interposed between the handle 4 and the frame 33.
After connecting the first plate 31 to the frame 33, but before resting the second plate 32 against the frame 33, the method may comprise the step of resting an intermediate plate 38 against the frame 33.
The method then comprises fixing the intermediate plate 38 in position. The step of fixing the intermediate plate 38 in position comprises the step of connecting the locking profile 34 for the second plate 32 to the frame 33. Said profile 34 allows both the intermediate plate 38 and the second plate 32 to be locked in position. In this way, the intermediate plate 38 remains partly interposed between the locking profile 34 and the frame 33.
In particular, the step of locking the second plate 32 comprises connecting the profile 34 to the frame 33 (using removable connecting means such as threaded or snap-on means). During connection of the profile 34 to the frame 33, the second plate 32 (in particular a portion of the first side 31 1) is inserted between two portions 342a, 342b of the profile 34. Then the hinges are used to connect the door 3 to the remaining parts of the oven 1.
This invention brings important advantages.
First, it allows easy assembly of the oven door. Second, it allows an oven door with a simple construction to be obtained.
It shall be understood that the invention described above may be modified and adapted in several ways without departing from the scope of the inventive concept. Moreover, all the details of the invention may be substituted by other technically equivalent elements. Further, the embodiments of the invention may be made in any size, depending on requirements.

Claims

1) An oven for cooking food comprising a cooking compartment (2) and a door (3) providing access to the cooking compartment (2), the door (3) being able to move between a first position in which it allows access to the cooking compartment (2) and a second position in which it prevents access to the cooking compartment (2), the door (3) comprising:
- a first plate (31);
- a second plate (32) which is substantially parallel with the first plate (31); - a frame (33) connected to the first plate (31), at least partly interposed between the first and second plates (31, 32) and comprising retaining means (330) for the second plate (32);
- a locking profile (34) for the second plate (32) which is in contact with the second plate (32) and which, operating in conjunction with the retaining means (330), allows positioning of the second plate (32);
- means (35) for connecting the profile (34) to the frame (33); characterised in that the profile (34):
- has a main direction of extension;
- following the main direction of extension it extends along a stretch of a perimetric edge (36) of the door (3).
2) The oven according to claim 1 , characterised in that the connecting means (35) are of the removable type. 3) The oven according to claim 1 or 2, characterised in that the first and second plates (31, 32) both have a portion which is at least partly transparent.
4) The oven according to any of the foregoing claims, characterised in that the frame (33) is made in a single body of plastic material and forms a border which is closed in a loop. 5) The oven according to any of the foregoing claims, characterised in that the profile (34) comprises first and second gripper means (342a, 342b) for the second plate (32), a portion of the second plate (32) being partly interposed between the first and second gripper means (342a, 342b).
6) The oven according to any of the foregoing claims, characterised in that the profile (34) comprises a condensation collection channel (344) located below the second plate (32) when the door (3) is in the second position. 7) The oven according to any of the foregoing claims, characterised in that the second plate (32) is a quadrilateral and comprises a first, a second, a third and a fourth side (311, 312, 313, 314), the frame (33) at least partly facing the first, second, third, fourth sides (311, 312, 313, 314), the first side (311) also facing the locking profile (34). 8) The oven according to any of the foregoing claims, characterised in that the door (3) comprises a hollow space (37) for the passage of a fluid, the hollow space (37) being at least partly interposed between the first and second plates (31, 32) and extending between a fluid inlet section (371) into the door (3) and a fluid outlet section (372) from the door (3); the second plate (32) with the door in the second position (3) at least partly facing the cooking compartment (2), the first plate (31) facing towards the outside of the oven (1); there being a first imaginary plane passing through and integral and parallel with the first plate (31) and a second imaginary plane passing through and integral and parallel with the second plate (32), the locking profile (34) comprising a first deflector (340) positioned at the fluid outlet section (372) from the door (3) for giving the fluid a trajectory comprising a motion component directed from the second plane towards the first plane.
9) The oven according to claim 8, characterised in that the casing (20) comprises a fluid outlet slot (200) from the casing (2); the fluid inlet section (371) into the door (3), at least with the door (3) in the second position, being opposite the outlet slot (200); the door (3) comprising a second deflector (341) for diverting the fluid arriving from the outlet slot (200), channelling the fluid into a portion of the hollow space (37) interposed between the first and second plates (31, 32).
10) The oven according to any of the foregoing claims, characterised in that the first plate (31) is irremovably connected to the frame (33).
11) The oven according to any of the foregoing claims, characterised in that the door (3) comprises an intermediate plate (38) interposed between the first and second plates (31, 32). 12) The oven according to claim 1 1, characterised in that the intermediate plate
(38) comprises at least one perimetric portion (381) which is in contact with and interposed between the frame (33) and the profile (34).
13) The oven according to claim 11 or 12 when it depends directly or indirectly on claim 8, characterised in that the hollow space (37) is interposed between the intermediate plate (38) and the second plate (32).
14) The oven according to any of the foregoing claims, characterised in that the door (3) comprises a first part (39) of a door lock designed to interact with a second part (39a) of the door lock which is integral with the casing (2); the first part (39) of the door lock comprising a threaded blind hole (390) and being connected to the frame (33) by at least one connecting screw (391) which engages in the threaded blind hole (390), the frame (33) comprising at least one flap (339) interposed between the first plate (31) and the first part
(39) of the door lock, the flap (339) comprising at least one through hole (392) having a first end (393) abutting the blind hole (390) and a second end (394) blocked by the first plate
(31), the connecting screw (391) being inserted in said at least one through hole (392) and engaging in the corresponding threaded blind hole (390) of the first part (39) of the door lock, the connecting screw (391) comprising a threaded shank (395) and a head (396), at a right angle to the main direction of extension of the screw (391), the head (396) being larger in size than the shank (395), part of the frame (33) flap (339) remaining interposed between the first part (39) of the door lock and the head (396). 15) A method for making a door (3) for an oven (1) for cooking food comprising the following steps:
- connecting a first plate (31) to a supporting frame (33);
- resting a second plate (32) against the supporting frame (33), this step comprising connecting the second plate (32) to retaining means (330) which are part of the frame (33), the frame (33) being at least partly interposed between the first and second plates (31, 32);
- locking the second plate (32), this step coming after the step of resting the second plate (32) against the frame (33);
characterised in that the step of locking the second plate (32) comprises the step of connecting to the frame (33) a locking profile (34) for the second plate (32), said profile (34) having a mainly linear extension and extending along an edge (36) of the door (3).
16) The method according to claim 15, characterised in that, after connecting the first plate (31) to the frame (33), but before resting the second plate (32) against the frame (33), the method comprises the step of resting an intermediate plate (38) against the frame (33); the step of connecting the second plate (32) locking profile (34) to the frame (33) also locking the intermediate plate (38) which remains at least partly interposed between the locking profile (34) and the frame (3).
