Abstract

A sealing device (1,101) for sealing a frame (such as a window frame) which is slidably mounted on a main frame (6), which sealing device comprises a sealing strip (8) comprising a first abutting member (9) and a second abutting member (10), and in use is positioned in an use position in which; the first abutting member abuts against a first abutment surface (12) provided on the frame or the main frame, the second abutting member abuts against a second abutment surface (13) provided on the frame or the main frame, and the sealing strip, the first abutment surface and the second abutment surface define a space (14) enclosed by said sealing strip, first abutment surface and second abutment surface.

Description

  • The invention relates to a sealing device for sealing a frame (such as a window frame) which is slidably mounted on a main frame, which sealing device comprises a sealing strip comprising an abutting member which in use abuts against an abutment surface provided on the frame or the main frame.
  • The object of the invention is to provide an improved or at least an alternative sealing device.
  • The object is achieved by a sealing device for sealing a frame (such as a window frame) which is slidably mounted on a main frame, which sealing device comprises a sealing strip comprising a first abutting member and a second abutting member, and in use is positioned in an use position in which;
    • the first abutting member abuts against a first abutment surface provided on the frame or the main frame,
    • the second abutting member abuts against a second abutment surface provided on the frame or the main frame, and
    • the sealing strip, the first abutment surface and the second abutment surface define a space enclosed by said sealing strip, first abutment surface and second abutment surface.
  • The first abutting member abutting against the first abutment surface and the second abutting member abutting against the second abutment surface such that the above mentioned space is formed provides the sealing device according the invention a high degree of insulation. More specifically, a high degree of thermal insulation and acoustic insulation is achieved by the sealing device according the invention.
  • In an embodiment the sealing device according to the invention comprises the features of any the enclosed claims.
  • The invention further relates to a closing device (such as a window) comprising a main frame, a frame slidably mounted on the main frame and a sealing device according to the invention.
  • The invention further relates to a closing device (such as a window) comprising a main frame, a frame slidably mounted on the main frame, and a sealing device which comprises a sealing strip comprising a first abutting member and a second abutting member, and is positioned in an use position in which;
    • the first abutting member abuts against a first abutment surface provided on the frame or the main frame,
    • the second abutting member abuts against a second abutment surface provided on the frame or the main frame, and
    • the sealing strip, the first abutment surface and the second abutment surface define a space enclosed by said sealing strip, first abutment surface and second abutment surface.
  • In an embodiment the closing device according to the invention comprises the features of any the enclosed claims.
  • The invention further relates to a use of a sealing device according to the invention.
  • The invention further relates to a use of a closing device (such as a window) according to the invention.

  • Figure 1 shows a first embodiment of a closing device 2 (more specifically a window) and sealing device 1 according the invention. The window 2 comprises a main frame 6, a frame 4 (more specifically a window frame) and a further frame 5 (more specifically a further window frame). The window frame 4 carries a pane 30 and the further window frame 5 carries a further pane 31. The window frame 4 and the further window frame 5 are slidably mounted on the main frame 6. The window frame 4 is slidable in the direction of arrow 32 and the further window frame 5 is slidable in the direction of arrow 40. The further window frame 5 is slidable through an opening 33, more specifically a groove, provided in the main frame 6.
  • In an alternative embodiment according the invention, the window 2 can be a different type of closing device 2, such as a door comprising a door frame slidably mounted on a main frame.
  • The sealing device 1 is located in a use position 11 between the window frame 4 and the main frame 6. The sealing device 1 is in the use position 11 fully substantially enclosed by the window frame 4 and the main frame 6. The window frame 4 and the main frame 6 substantially fully cover the sealing device 1. As a result of this, the sealing device 1 located in the use position 11 is invisible for a person located outdoors 36 or indoors 37.
  • The further sealing device 101 is located in a use position 11 between the further window frame 5 and the main frame 6. The further sealing device 101 is in the use position 11 substantially fully enclosed by the further window frame 5 and the main frame 6. The further window frame 5 and the main frame 6 substantially fully cover the further sealing device 101. As a result of this, the further sealing device 101 located in the use position 11 is invisible for a person located outdoors 36 or indoors 37.
  • The window 2 shown has a first removed part 34 and a second removed part 35 to obtain a clear sight on the sealing device 1 and the further sealing device 101, respectively.
  • Figure 2 shows a view in cross section along line II-II of the window and sealing device of fig 1. The sealing device 1 comprises a sealing strip 8 comprising a first abutting member 9 and a second abutting member 10. In the use position 11 the sealing device 1 is positioned such that;
    • the first abutting member 9 abuts against a first abutment surface 12 provided on the window frame 4,
    • the second abutting member 10 abuts against a second abutment 13 surface provided on the window frame 4, and
    • the sealing strip 1, the first abutment surface 12 and the second abutment surface 13 define a space 14 enclosed by said sealing strip 1, first abutment surface 12 and second abutment surface 13.
  • The space 14 is fully enclosed by the sealing strip 1, first abutment surface 12 and second abutment surface 13.
  • The sealing device 1 comprises a further sealing strip 18 forming the first abutment surface 12 and the second abutment surface 13. The sealing strip 8 is attached to the main frame 6 and the further sealing strip 18 is attached to the window frame 4.
  • In an alternative embodiment, the sealing strip 8 may be attached to the window frame 4 and the further sealing strip 18 may be attached to the main frame 6.
  • In an alternative embodiment, the sealing device 1 comprises a sealing strip 8 attached the main frame 6 or the window frame 4 and the first abutment surface 12 and second abutment surface 13 are formed by the window frame 4 or the main frame 6, respectively.
  • The further sealing strip 18 comprises an engage member 39 for attaching the further sealing strip 18 to the window frame 4 by placing the engage member 39 in an opening 38, more specifically a slit, provided in the window frame 4.
  • Figure 3 shows an enlarged view of the sealing device of fig 1. In the use position 11 the sealing strip 8, first abutment surface 12 and second abutment surface 13 form a shaft 15 defining the space 14.
  • In the use position 11 the sealing strip 8 and the further sealing strip 18 are positioned in contact with each other such that the first abutting member 9 abuts against the first abutment surface 12 and the second abutting member 10 abuts against the second abutment surface 13 and the sealing strip 8 and the further sealing strip 18 define the space 14 enclosed by said sealing strip 8 and further sealing strip 18.
  • The space 14 comprises a longitudinal space axis 16 and the sealing strip 8, first abutment surface 13 and second abutment surface 14 in the use position 11 fully surround the longitudinal space axis 16.
  • The first abutment surface 12 and the second abutment surface 13 in the use position 11 extend substantially parallel to the longitudinal space axis 16.
  • The sealing strip 8 comprises a base structure 20 and the first abutting member 9 and the second abutting member 10 are constructed and arranged to be movable relative to the base structure 20. The first abutting member 9 and the second abutting member 10 are constructed and arranged to be pivotable relative to the base structure 20. The first abutting member 9 is pivotable about a first pivot axis 21 and the second abutting member 10 is pivotable about the a second pivot axis 222. The first abutting member 9 and the second abutting member 10 are at least partly formed from an elastic material.
  • The first abutment surface 12 and the second abutment surface 13 in the use position 11 extend between the first abutting member 9 and the second abutting member 10. The first abutment surface 12 and the second abutment surface 13 are formed by a surface member 24 which in the use position 11 extends between the first abutting member 9 and the second abutting member 10. The first abutment surface 12 and the second abutment surface 13 are located at opposite sides of the surface member 24.
  • The sealing device 1 is constructed and arranged such that in the use position 11 at least one of the first abutting member 9 and the second abutting member 10 is forced against its first or second abutment surface 12, 13 respectively by an overpressure outside 28 said space 14.
  • The sealing device 1 is constructed and arranged such that in the use position 11 at least one of the first abutting member 9 and the second abutting member 10 is forced against its first or second abutment surface 12, 13 respectively by an overpressure inside 29 said space 14.
  • Figure 4 shows a further view in perspective of the closing device and sealing device of fig 1. The sealing strip 8 comprises a longitudinal strip axis 17 and in the use position 11 the first abutting member 9 and the second abutting member 10 extend substantially parallel to the longitudinal strip axis 17. The longitudinal strip axis 17 and the longitudinal space axis 16 in the use position 11 extend substantially parallel to each other. The sealing strip 8 has a substantially constant cross sectional profile along the longitudinal strip axis 17.
  • The sealing strip 8 is constructed and arranged to in the use position 11 allow movement of the sealing strip 8 relative to the first and the second abutment surface 12, 13 in the direction of the longitudinal space axis 16.
  • In the use position 11 the sealing strip 8 and the further sealing strip 18 are positioned substantially parallel to each other. The further sealing strip 18 comprises a further longitudinal strip axis 19 which in the use position 11 extends substantially parallel to the longitudinal space axis 16. The further sealing strip 18 has a substantially constant cross sectional profile along the further longitudinal strip axis 19.
  • The figure 5 and 6 show a view in perspective of the sealing strip and the further sealing strip of the sealing device of fig 1, respectively. Each of the sealing strip 8 and the further sealing strip has a length L. In the use position 11 the first abutting member 9 and the second abutting member 10 abuts against the first abutment surface 12 and the second abutment surface 13, respectively, along the length L. The first abutting member 9 and the second abutting member 10 abuts against the first abutment surface 12 and the second abutment surface 13, respectively, along the full length L.
  • Figure 7 shows a view in cross section of a second embodiment of the closing device and sealing device according the invention. The first abutment surface 12 and the second abutment surface 13 are formed by the further sealing strip 18 connected to the main frame 6. The first abutment surface 12 and the second abutment surface 13 are positioned in line with each other. The first abutment surface 12 and the second abutment surface 13 extend through one fictive plane. In an alternative embodiment, the further sealing strip 18 is left out and the first abutment surface 12 and the second abutment surface 13 are formed by the main frame 6.
  • Figure 8 shows a view in cross section of a third embodiment of the sealing device according to the invention. The first abutting member 9 and the second abutting member 10 in the use position 11 extend between the first abutment surface 12 and the second abutment surface 13. The first abutment surface 12 is formed by a first surface member 24, the second abutment surface 13 is formed by a second surface member 25. The first abutting member 9 and the second abutting member 10 in the use position 11 extend between the first surface member 24 and the second surface member 25. The first abutment surface 12 and the second abutment surface 13 are facing each other.
  • The figures 9A-H show views in cross section of eight alternative embodiments of the sealing device according to the invention.
  • In the embodiment of fig. 9A, the first abutting member 9, the second abutting member 10, the first abutment surface 12 and the second abutment surface 13 are made of a rigid material.
  • In the embodiment of fig. 9B, the first abutting member 9 and the second abutting member 10 are made of an elastic material.
  • In the embodiment of fig. 9C, the first abutting member 9 and the second abutting member 10 are made of an elastic material. Ribs 41 are provided on the the first abutting member 9 and the second abutting member 10. The first abutment surface 12 and the second abutment surface 13 are made of a rigid material.
  • In the embodiment of fig. 9D, the first abutting member 9 and the second abutting member 10 which are pivotable about a first pivot axis 21 and a second pivot axis 22, respectively, are made of a rigid material.
  • In the embodiment of fig. 9E, in each of the first abutting member 9 and the second abutting member 10 the base is made of an elastic material and the end part is made of a rigid material.
  • Further embodiments of the sealing device, closing device and the use thereof according the invention are defined by the following clauses.
    1. 1. Sealing device for sealing a frame (such as a window frame) which is slidably mounted on a main frame, which sealing device comprises a sealing strip comprising a first abutting member and a second abutting member, and in use is positioned in an use position in which;
      • the first abutting member abuts against a first abutment surface provided on the frame or the main frame,
      • the second abutting member abuts against a second abutment surface provided on the frame or the main frame, and
      • the sealing strip, the first abutment surface and the second abutment surface define a space enclosed by said sealing strip, first abutment surface and second abutment surface.
    2. 2. Sealing device according to clause 1, wherein in the use position the sealing strip, first abutment surface and second abutment surface form a shaft defining the space.
    3. 3. Sealing device according to clause 1 or 2, wherein the space comprises a longitudinal space axis and the sealing strip, first abutment surface and second abutment surface in the use position surround the longitudinal space axis.
    4. 4. Sealing device according to any of the preceding clauses, wherein the sealing strip comprises a longitudinal strip axis and in the use position the first abutting member and the second abutting member extend substantially parallel to the longitudinal strip axis.
    5. 5. Sealing device according to any of the preceding clauses, wherein the sealing strip has a length L and in the use position the first abutting member and the second abutting member abuts against the first abutment surface and the second abutment surface, respectively, along the length L.
    6. 6. Sealing device according to clause 4 or 5, wherein the longitudinal strip axis and the longitudinal space axis in the use position extend substantially parallel to each other.
    7. 7. Sealing device according to any of the clauses 3-6, wherein the first abutment surface and the second abutment surface in the use position extend substantially parallel to the longitudinal space axis.
    8. 8. Sealing device according to any of the clauses 4-7, wherein the sealing strip has a substantially constant cross sectional profile along the longitudinal strip axis.
    9. 9. Sealing device according to any of the clauses 3-9, wherein the sealing strip is constructed and arranged to in the use position allow movement of the sealing strip relative to the first and the second abutment surface in the direction of the longitudinal space axis.
    10. 10. Sealing device according to any of the preceding clauses, wherein the sealing device comprises a further sealing strip forming the first abutment surface and the second abutment surface.
    11. 11. Sealing device according to clause 10, wherein in the use position the sealing strip and the further sealing strip are positioned in contact with each other such that the first abutting member abuts against the first abutment surface and the second abutting member abuts against the second abutment surface and the sealing strip and the further sealing strip define the space enclosed by said sealing strip and further sealing strip.
    12. 12. Sealing device according to clause 10 or 11, wherein in the use position the sealing strip and the further sealing strip are positioned substantially parallel to each other.
    13. 13. Sealing device according to any of the clauses 10-12, wherein the further sealing strip comprises a further longitudinal strip axis which in the use position extends substantially parallel to the longitudinal space axis.
    14. 14. Sealing device according to clause 13, wherein the further sealing strip has a substantially constant cross sectional profile along the further longitudinal strip axis.
    15. 15. Sealing device according to any of the clauses 10-14, wherein the further sealing strip has a length L.
    16. 16. Sealing device according to any of the preceding clauses, wherein the sealing strip comprises a base structure and the first abutting member and the second abutting member are constructed and arranged to be movable relative to the base structure.
    17. 17. Sealing device according to clause 16, wherein the first abutting member and the second abutting member are constructed and arranged to be pivotable relative to the base structure.
    18. 18. Sealing device according to any of the preceding clauses, wherein the first abutting member and the second abutting member are formed from an elastic material.
    19. 19. Sealing device according to any of the preceding clauses, wherein the first abutment surface and the second abutment surface in the use position extend between the first abutting member and the second abutting member.
    20. 20. Sealing device according to any of the preceding clauses, wherein the first abutment surface and the second abutment surface are formed by a surface member which in the use position extends between the first abutting member and the second abutting member.
    21. 21. Sealing device according to clause 20, wherein the first abutment surface and the second abutment surface are located at opposite sides of the surface member.
    22. 22. Sealing device according to clause 20 or 21, wherein the surface member extends substantially parallel to the further longitudinal strip axis.
    23. 23. Sealing device according to any of the preceding clauses, wherein the first abutting member and the second abutting member in the use position extend between the first abutment surface and the second abutment surface.

Sealing device according to any of the preceding clauses, wherein the first abutment surface is formed by a first surface member, the second abutment surface is formed by a second surface member, and the first abutting member and the second abutting member in the use position extend between the first surface member and the second surface member.
    25. 25. Sealing device according to clause 23 or 24, wherein the first abutment surface and the second abutment surface are facing each other.

Sealing device according to any of the preceding clauses, wherein the sealing device is constructed and arranged such that in the use position at least one of the first abutting member and the second abutting member is forced against its first or second abutment surface respectively by an overpressure outside said space.
    27. 27. Sealing device according to any of the preceding clauses, wherein the sealing device is constructed and arranged such that in the use position at least one of the first abutting member and the second abutting member is forced against its first or second abutment surface respectively by an overpressure inside said space.
    28. 28. Sealing device according to any of the clauses 1-18, 26, 27, wherein the first abutment surface and the second abutment surface are positioned in line with each other.
    29. 29. Sealing device according to any of the preceding clauses, wherein the sealing strip is constructed and arranged to in the use position be connected to one of the frame or the main frame.
    30. 30. Sealing device according to clause 29, wherein the further sealing strip is constructed and arranged to in the use position be connected to the other of the frame or the main frame.
    31. 31. Closing device (such as a window) comprising a main frame, a frame slidably mounted on the main frame, and a sealing device which comprises a sealing strip comprising a first abutting member and a second abutting member, and is positioned in an use position in which;
      • the first abutting member abuts against a first abutment surface provided on the frame or the main frame,
      • the second abutting member abuts against a second abutment surface provided on the frame or the main frame, and
      • the sealing strip, the first abutment surface and the second abutment surface define a space enclosed by said sealing strip, first abutment surface and second abutment surface.
    32. 32. Closing device according to clause 31, wherein the closing device comprises the features of any of the clauses 1-30.
    33. 33. Closing device according to clause 31 or 32, wherein the sealing device in the use position is located between the frame and main frame.
    34. 34. Closing device according to any of the clause 31-33, wherein the sealing device in the use position is substantially fully enclosed by the frame and the main frame.
    35. 35. Closing device according to any of the clause 31-34, wherein the frame and the main frame substantially fully cover the sealing device.

Claims (15)

  1. Sealing device for sealing a frame (such as a window frame) which is slidably mounted on a main frame, which sealing device comprises a sealing strip comprising a first abutting member and a second abutting member, and in use is positioned in an use position in which;
    - the first abutting member abuts against a first abutment surface provided on the frame or the main frame,
    - the second abutting member abuts against a second abutment surface provided on the frame or the main frame, and
    - the sealing strip, the first abutment surface and the second abutment surface define a space enclosed by said sealing strip, first abutment surface and second abutment surface.
  2. Sealing device according to any of the preceding claims, wherein the sealing device comprises a further sealing strip forming the first abutment surface and the second abutment surface.
  3. Sealing device according to claim 2, wherein in the use position the sealing strip and the further sealing strip are positioned in contact with each other such that the first abutting member abuts against the first abutment surface and the second abutting member abuts against the second abutment surface and the sealing strip and the further sealing strip define the space enclosed by said sealing strip and further sealing strip.
  4. Sealing device according to claim 2 or 3, wherein in the use position the sealing strip and the further sealing strip are positioned substantially parallel to each other.
  5. Sealing device according to any of the claims 2-4, wherein the further sealing strip comprises a further longitudinal strip axis which in the use position extends substantially parallel to the longitudinal space axis.
  6. Sealing device according to claim 5, wherein the further sealing strip has a substantially constant cross sectional profile along the further longitudinal strip axis.
  7. Sealing device according to any of the claims 2-6, wherein the further sealing strip has a length L.
  8. Sealing device according to any of the preceding claims, wherein the sealing strip is constructed and arranged to in the use position be connected to one of the frame or the main frame.
  9. Sealing device according to claim 8, wherein the further sealing strip is constructed and arranged to in the use position be connected to the other of the frame or the main frame.
  10. Closing device (such as a window) comprising a main frame, a frame slidably mounted on the main frame, and a sealing device which comprises a sealing strip comprising a first abutting member and a second abutting member, and is positioned in an use position in which;
    - the first abutting member abuts against a first abutment surface provided on the frame or the main frame,
    - the second abutting member abuts against a second abutment surface provided on the frame or the main frame, and
    - the sealing strip, the first abutment surface and the second abutment surface define a space enclosed by said sealing strip, first abutment surface and second abutment surface.
  11. Closing device according to claim 10, wherein the closing device comprises the features of any of the claims 1-30.
  12. Closing device according to claim 10 or 11, wherein the sealing device in the use position is located between the frame and main frame.
  13. Closing device according to any of the claim 10-12, wherein the sealing device in the use position is substantially fully enclosed by the frame and the main frame.
