    DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT
  • FIGS. 1 to 4 show an adjustable exercise device, by example, in the form of a dumbbell. The adjustable exercise device can also be e.g. a barbell.
  • The dumbbell or adjustable exercise device 1 comprises a handle 10 including a hand grip 11 having two ends 12 and a compartment 14. Two carriers 20 each include a tube 21 attached to the ends 12 of the handle 10 with a pin 15, an inner anchor plate 22 having an outer diameter greater than that of the tube 21, and one or more (such as three) notches or cut-off portions 23 for forming a non-circular or triangular cross section. The carriers 20 each include a chamber 24 (FIG. 1), and one or more slots 25 located in the cut-off portion 23 and communicative with the chamber 24, the pins 15 are engaged with the anchor plate 22 (FIGS. 3, 6) for securing the tubes 21 of the carriers 20 to the handle 10.
  • A latch 30 includes a shank 31 engaged into the tube 21 and having a bore 32 (FIGS. 1, 4-5) for receiving the handle 10, and one or more (such as two opposite) grooves 33 for engaging with the pin 15 and for limiting the latch 30 to rotate relative to the carrier 20 and the handle 10. The latch 30 includes a knob 34 at one end or outer end of the shank 31 and having an outer diameter greater than that of the shank 31, and having an outer contour similar to that of the tube 21 of the carrier 20 (FIGS. 2-3, 8), and the latch 30 is rotatable relative to the carrier 20 and the handle 10 to an interlock or crisscross position (FIGS. 6-7, and 9).
  • The latch 30 includes one or more (such as three) rows of tongues 35 aligned with the slots 25 of the carrier 20 for selectively extending out through the slots 25 of the carrier 20 (FIGS. 6, 9), or engaged in the tube 21 of the carrier 20 (FIGS. 3, 8). A number of weights 40 each include an opening 41 formed in the central and having a non-circular or triangular cross section similar to that of the tube 21 for engaging with the tube 21 and for preventing the weight 40 from being rotated relative to the carrier 20 and the handle 10.
  • In operation, the required weights 40 (FIGS. 3, 8) may be engaged onto or disengaged from the carrier 20 when the knob 34 of the latch 30 is aligned with the tube 21 of the carrier 20 and when the tongues 35 of the latch 30 are engaged in the tube 21. After the required weights 40 are engaged onto the carrier 20, the knob 34 of the latch 30 may be rotated relative to the carrier 20 and the handle 10 to the interlock position (FIGS. 6-7, 9), and the tongues 35 of the latch 30 are extended out through the slots 25 of the carrier 20 and engaged with the weights 40 for locking the weights 40 to the carrier 20 and the handle 10. As shown in FIG. 10, the length or dimension of the handle 101 and/or the weights 40 may be enlarged to form and to act as a barbell.
  • A vibrating device 50 includes a motor 51 engaged in a receptacle 52 or directly engaged into the compartment 14 of the handle 10, and one or more power sources or batteries 53 engaged in the receptacle 52 or directly engaged into the handle 10, and a button 55 engaged in the shank 31 and extended out of the knob 34 for actuating the motor 51 to generate a vibration to the weight carrier or handle 10 or the adjustable dumbbell 1 or the user.
