Definitions
- the invention concerns a brick cover comprising a first and a second bowl, wherein the second bowl is arranged to be inserted in the first bowl, which second bowl is provided with corner elements which are mounted in at least two corner points inside the second bowl, in each of which corner elements is mounted a gripper member which is provided to allow engagement of a lifting member in order, by means of the lifting member, to lift the second bowl out of the first bowl.
- Such brick covers are generally known and i.a. used to create access to sewers or utility pipes located in the ground. Inside the second bowl are placed bricks, other paving stones or flooring elements so that in this way the brick cover does not disrupt the structural unity of the road or floor in which it is applied.
- the second bowl is lifted by means of the lifting member, which engages in the gripper member.
- One disadvantage of the known brick cover is that lifting the second bowl out of the first bowl is a laborious operation. Because the gripper member and the lifting member are formed by a T-key which must be screwed into the corner element, first a cap bolt, which is screwed into the corner element to avoid forming an obstacle for traffic, must be removed and then the T-bar screwed in, whereby the second bowl can be lifted out of the first. By removing the cap bolt, dirt can enter the corner element which makes it more difficult to screw in the T-bar.
- the object of the invention is to produce a brick cover whereby lifting the second bowl out of the first bowl is simple and more reliable.
- a brick cover according to the invention is characterised in that the gripper member is formed by a bolt which is applied in the corner element, which bolt has a head part that is provided with a through bore made in a direction substantially perpendicular to the axis of the bolt, and wherein the lifting member is mountable in the through bore. Because the bolt has a through bore, the lifting member can easily be pushed through this bore and hence the second bowl can be lifted out of the first in a reliable manner.
- a first preferred embodiment of a brick cover according to the invention is characterised in that the bolt has a screw thread and can be screwed into the corner element over its entire length. In this way the bolt can project over a suitable length and still remain firmly seated when it is partly unscrewed to expose the bore.
- a second preferred embodiment of a brick cover according to the invention is characterised in that corner elements are mounted such that they open into a top surface of the second bowl. As a result the head of the bolt comes to lie in the top surface and is easy to access. In addition the bolt can be fully sunk into the corner element, protecting it against vandalism.
- a third preferred embodiment of a brick cover according to the invention is characterised in that the lifting member is formed by a bar which can be mounted sliding in the through bore.
- a bar as a lifting member constitutes a simple, economic and reliable means which can be pushed through the bore and thus forms a suitable instrument for lifting the second bowl out of the first.
- a fourth preferred embodiment of a brick cover according to the invention is characterised in that the lifting member furthermore contains a lifting tool which can be applied about the bar. By using a lifting tool, lifting is further facilitated for the user and the necessary forces can be better distributed over the second bowl.
- the lifting tool is formed by a rope which has at least two loops, whereby each of the loops can each time be laid about a bar.
- the loops form a suitable engagement on the gripper member.
- the invention also relates to an assembly of a brick cover and a lifting member, which brick cover comprises a first and a second bowl, whereby the second bowl can be inserted in the first bowl, which second bowl is provided with corner elements which are mounted in at least two corner points on the inside of the second bowl, in each of which corner elements a gripper member is attachable, which gripper member is intended to allow engagement of a lifting member in order by means of the lifting member to lift the second bowl out of the first.
- An assembly according to the invention is characterised in that the gripper member is formed by a bolt held in the corner element, which bolt has a head part which is provided with a through bore made in a direction substantially perpendicular to the axis of the bolt and whereby the lifting member is mounted in the bore.
- Fig. 1 a top view of a brick cover according to the invention
- Fig. 2 a cross section along line H-Il 1 of the brick cover according to fig. 1 ;
- Fig. 4 an embodiment of the lifting tool attached to the brick cover.
- the same or similar elements have the same reference numerals.
- the brick cover 1 according to the invention shown in Fig. 1 comprises a first bowl 2 in which is mounted sliding a second bowl 3.
- the first and second bowls are for example made of aluminium, but it will be clear that other materials can also be used such as for example steel or plastic.
- the first bowl is provided with a first edge 4 (see Fig. 2) which is mounted on the inside of the first bowl and extends substantially over the entire inner periphery thereof.
- the first edge 4 is recessed down from the top edge of the first bowl, for example over a distance of between 2 and 5 mm, preferably 3 mm.
- the second bowl is provided with a second edge 5 which extends almost completely over the entire outer periphery of the second bowl.
- the second edge 5 forms a projection in relation to the outer case of the second bowl.
- the first and second edges are designed such that when the second bowl is inserted in the first bowl, the second edge 5 rests on the first edge 4 and the second bowl is completely lowered into the first, whereby the top edge of the first and second bowl lie substantially in the same plane. This ensures that the first and second bowls do not form an obstacle to traffic if they are placed in a ground or road.
- a good seal is achieved between the first and second bowls to counter substantially the penetration of water and dirt along the interface between the first and second bowls.
- the second bowl 3 is furthermore provided on its underside with a U-shaped profile 7 in which is mounted a seal 6.
- the profile with seal rests on the inner edge of the first profile which furthermore has an open base part. This furthermore prevents the infiltration of water to the space covered by the brick cover.
- the second bowl furthermore has a base plate 8 and thus forms a closed bowl.
- the second bowl is provided with at least two corners with corner elements 9 which are mounted on the inside of the second bowl.
- the corner elements preferably form a structural whole with the second bowl.
- the corner elements are mounted at diagonally opposed corners.
- the corner elements 9 extend substantially over at least half the depth of the second bowl in order firstly to reinforce the structure of the second bowl and secondly to form sufficient mass for a bolt 10 to be mounted therein as described below.
- the corner elements are preferably triangular in order thus to connect well with the corner and take up a small as possible a volume of the second bowl.
- the corner elements are furthermore preferably mounted such that they open into a top surface of the second bowl and thus form no obstacle to traffic on use of the brick cover.
- the corner elements 9 are provided in order to each time apply a gripper member 10 formed by a bolt.
- the corner element is preferably provided with an internal screw thread by means of which the bolt can be screwed in and out. Because the corner element preferably extends over at least half the depth of the second bowl, the bolt can also be screwed in and out over at least the same distance whereby a rigid construction is obtained.
- the bolt on its lowest end has a stop element 15, such as for example a nut, which avoids unscrewing the bolt to prevent it being completely removed from the corner element and thus being able to be lost.
- the stop element contacts the underside of the corner element rendering further unscrewing impossible, and hence the bolt remains seated in the corner element and cannot be lost. Furthermore it is ensured that the bolt can be screwed out sufficiently to serve as a gripper member.
- the invention is not restricted to the use of a bolt with a screw thread as an embodiment of the gripper member.
- the latter can also be formed by a bolt which is mounted telescopically in the comer element and which can be locked by means of a bayonet closure in two positions, lowered and extended.
- a bolt with screw thread For the sake of simplicity in the description below reference is made merely to a bolt with screw thread.
- the gripper member 10 is designed to allow a lifting member to grip in order, by means of this lifting member, to lift the second bowl out of the first.
- the bolt in its head part 12 is provided with a through bore 13 which extends in a direction substantially perpendicular to the axis, in particular the screw axis, of the bolt.
- the lifting member is preferably formed by a bar 14 (Fig. 3) which can be inserted in the bore.
- the bolt head of the bolt is provided with a slot 11 which is intended to allow engagement of a screwdriver for screwing the bolt in and out more easily.
- the screwdriver is inserted in the slot 11.
- the bar serving as a lifting member is provided at one end with a screwdriver head in order to be able to use the bar as both a lifting member and a screwdriver.
- the bar is inserted in the bore and the second bowl can be lifted out of the first bowl by means of the bar and the bolt. Also the bar and bolt are used to place the second bowl again into the first.
- the lifting member furthermore has a lifting tool 16 (see Fig. 4) which can be placed on the bar 14. It is noted that the lifting tool can also be used without the bar and attached to the gripper member in a different manner, such as for example with a knob or clamp.
- the lifting tool is preferably formed by a rope or woven strap.
- the rope or strap preferably has at least a first loop 17 and a second loop 18 which each form one end of the strap or rope. The loops are then laid around the bar 14 so that the loops extend on either side of the bolt 10.
- the lifting tool has a third loop 19 which forms a handle.
- the user can thus place the lifting tool by means of the first and second loops about the bar and bolt, and place his hand in the third loop. Then by means of the third loop the user can pull on the lifting tool to lift the second bowl out of the first.
- the loops are obtained by using the material of the strap or rope itself. Two strap or rope parts are then stitched together over a specific distance between 5 and 10 cm, preferably 7 cm. This gives a rigid connection which is resistant to the weight of the brick cover.
