Description

Mounting system for a flexible information carrier, method for placing/removal of this information carrier, and the information carrier itself
The present invention relates to a mounting system for mounting a flexible information carrier, typically a printed banner of large size, in a plane with a left and right-hand bottom corner and a left and right-hand top corner. The invention further relates to a method for placing or removing an information carrier in or from such a mounting system and an information carrier for use in such a system.
According to a known conventional system, information carriers of large size are adhered in various parts against a hoarding mounted for instance against a public building. Such a system has the drawback that many manual operations are required at different positions and at a height which is generally difficult to reach. Systems further exist in which a banner is tensioned in a frame using elastic straps. According to yet another known system, the banner is fastened to a horizontal profile which can move up and downward between two vertical profiles. Finally, systems also exist which operate with a zip fastening along the periphery of the information carrier.
The present invention has for its object to provide a simple mounting system which allows a flexible information carrier to be arranged or removed with a relatively few operations, wherein an operator needs to move as little as possible along the surface on which the banner must be mounted.
According to an embodiment of the invention, the mounting system according to the preamble is distinguished substantially in that the mounting system comprises:
- first guide means extending substantially between the left and right-hand bottom corner for the purpose of guiding a bottom side of the information carrier;
- second guide means extending substantially between the left-hand bottom corner and the right-hand top corner for the purpose of guiding a top side and a left-hand side of the information carrier;
- a side profile with an upper end which can be guided in the second guide means from roughly the left-hand bottom corner to the right-hand top corner, and with a lower end which can be guided in the first guide means and can be uncoupled, this side profile being connectable to the right-hand side of the information carrier;
- side profile displacing means for moving the side profile horizontally between the first and second guide means when the side profile is in a substantially vertical position between the first and the second guide means .
The whole flexible information carrier can in this way be placed by an operator situated close to the left-hand bottom corner. This is possible because, from the left-hand bottom corner, the operator can connect the right-hand side of the information carrier to the side profile, couple the top and left-hand side of the information carrier to the second guide means and couple the bottom side of the information carrier to the first guide means, after which the side profile can be moved upward along the second guide means and the lower end of the side profile can be coupled to the first guide means. Using the displacing means the side profile can then be moved fully to the right for the purpose of tensioning the information carrier.
According to an advantageous embodiment, the second guide means consist substantially of
- an arcuate part at the position of the left-hand top corner;
- a substantially vertical part between the left-hand bottom corner and the arcuate part;
- a substantially horizontal part between the arcuate part and the right-hand top corner.
Such an embodiment of the second guide means allows the top side and left-hand side of the flexible information carrier to be guided smoothly from the left-hand bottom corner to the right-hand top corner. Note that the embodiments described above and in the text hereinbelow describe a mounting system which allows an information carrier to be mounted from a left-hand bottom corner of the system. It will however be self-evident that a similar symmetrical system, wherein the information carrier can be mounted from a right-hand bottom corner, also falls within the scope of protection of the invention. In order to enhance readability of the description only the left-hand variant is however described.
According to a preferred embodiment of the invention, the mounting system further comprises an auxiliary profile which can be connected to the left-hand upper end of the information carrier, this' such that the auxiliary profile forms a vertical leg which, in the mounted situation of the information carrier, extends in line with the vertical part of the second guide means substantially into the left-hand top corner. The auxiliary profile can for instance be guided along the substantially vertical part of the second guide means .
According to a possible embodiment, the first and the second guide means are formed in each case by a guide rail in which a set of sliding elements or rollers is received. These sliding elements or rollers are intended to be connected to corresponding mounting points on the top side, left-hand side and bottom side of the information carrier. The side profile can further be embodied similarly to a guide rail in which a set of sliding elements or rollers is received which are connectable to the right-hand side of the information carrier. A similar structure is possible for the auxiliary profile.
According to another variant, the side profile could be provided with a number of fixed connecting points at a mutual distance for connecting to a corresponding number of points at the same mutual distance on the right-hand side of the information carrier. The same applies for the auxiliary profile.
According to a possible embodiment, the side profile displacing means consist of a cable system with at least one cable for moving the side profile from left to right, and vice versa. According to a possible embodiment of the cable system, one continuous cable is provided, which runs from the right-hand top corner along the second guide means to a position beyond the left-hand bottom corner and is guided under the first guide means to a position below the right-hand bottom corner, and then runs along the first guide means to a position in the vicinity of the left-hand bottom corner and is subsequently guided upward to the right-hand top corner, this such that a movement of the cable in a first direction moves the side profile to the left and in a second, opposite direction moves the side profile to the right.
Note that, in the context of the present patent application, the term "cable" must be interpreted broadly and refers to any type of rope or cord or other cable suitable for use in a mounting system according to the invention.
According to a further developed embodiment, the mounting system comprises auxiliary profile displacing means for moving the auxiliary profile upward/downward between the left-hand bottom and top corners. The auxiliary profile displacing means can likewise consist of a cable system with at least one cable. This can be one continuous cable extending along the vertical part of the second guide means, wherein the movement of the cable in a first direction causes the auxiliary profile to move upward and the movement of the cable in a second, opposite direction causes the auxiliary profile to move downward.
According to another further developed embodiment, the side profile and the auxiliary profile displacing means take an integrated form, for instance in the form of a cable system with one continuous cable for moving the auxiliary profile upward/downward as well as moving the side profile to the left/right.
According to an embodiment of the method for arranging or removing a flexible information carrier in or from a mounting system according to the invention, an operator moves into the vicinity of the left-hand bottom corner and from this position couples or uncouples the information carrier to or from the first and second guide means, wherein the side profile is displaced to the left and is uncoupled at least at the bottom from the first guide means .
The invention further relates to an information carrier adapted for use in a mounting system according to the invention.
According to a preferred embodiment, the information carrier is provided with connecting points with indicator means to facilitate the connection to the first and second guide means. The carrier can for instance be provided at its periphery with connecting points, such as for instance holes with eyes, arranged at a mutual pitch distance, wherein the colour of the connecting points can for instance differ for the front and rear side of the information carrier.
According to another option, a set of indicators (for instance markings in a determined colour) can be co-printed on the banner in order to indicate where the sliding elements or rollers of the guide means must be connected to the banner, wherein for instance each sliding element or roller is for instance provided with a clamping means in which the edge of the banner can be clampingly received.
The invention will now be further elucidated on the basis of a number of by no means limitative exemplary embodiments, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Figure 1 is a schematic view of a first embodiment of a mounting system according to the invention;
Figures 2-4 illustrate three successive positions during removal of the information carrier from the mounting system of figure 1; Figure 5 is a schematic view of a second embodiment of a mounting system according to the invention, wherein the displacing means are omitted;
Figure 6 is a schematic view of a third embodiment of a mounting system according to the invention, wherein the displacing means are omitted;
Figure 7 shows a fourth variant of the mounting system according to the invention for a non-rectangular information carrier, wherein the displacing means are omitted.
Figure 1 illustrates a first embodiment of a mounting system according to the invention, in a situation where the different elements of the mounting system are located at a position corresponding to a situation in which the information carrier is mounted in the system. Note that the information carrier itself is not drawn in order to show all components of the mounting system.
In the embodiment of figure 1 it is the intention that a rectangular information carrier extends in a rectangular plane with a left-hand top corner 11, a left-hand bottom corner 12, a right-hand top corner 13 and a right-hand bottom corner 14. Mounting system 10 comprises first guide means 1 which extend roughly between left-hand bottom corner 12 and right-hand bottom corner 14 and which are intended to guide the underside of the information carrier. Second guide means 2 are further provided, which run upward from left-hand bottom corner 12 to a position in the vicinity of left-hand top corner 11, there pass through a bend and continue running horizontally to right-hand top corner 13. These second guide means 2 are intended for the purpose of guiding the top side and the left-hand side of an information carrier.
The first and second guide means are for instance embodied as guide rails in which sliding elements or rollers are arranged. These sliding elements or rollers can be connected to the information carrier. For this purpose the information carrier can be provided along its periphery with reinforced holes at a mutual pitch distance. In the embodiment of figure 1 a set of sliding elements or guide rollers 19 are provided in first guide rail 1 and a set of sliding elements or guide rollers 17 in second guide rail 2.
Situated between the first and second guide means is a side profile 3 which is likewise provided with a set of sliding elements or guide rollers 18. Side profile 3 has an upper end which can be guided in rail 2 and a lower end which can be guided in rail 1. As will be further elucidated with reference to figure 3, the lower end of side profile 3 can be uncoupled from rail 1. Further provided is an auxiliary profile 4 which can be connected to the left-hand upper end of the information carrier via connecting means 20. Auxiliary profile 4 forms a vertical leg in line with the vertical part of guide rail 2.
In the illustrated embodiment use is made of guide rails with sliding elements or rollers. The skilled person will however appreciate that any guiding system which is suitable for use in a mounting system according to the invention can also be employed. It is thus possible to envisage for instance guide means consisting of a rod over which a set of rings can be guided.
The first embodiment of figure 1 is further provided with displacing means for moving side profile 3 horizontally (see arrows A and B in figures 2 and 3) between the horizontal part of second guide rail 2 and first guide rail 1. These displacing means consist of a cable system 5 with one continuous cable 26 connected at a first location 27 to the upper end of the side profile and connected at a second location 28 to the lower end of the side profile. Cable 26 can more particularly be attached to a pivot point which can be guided in the first guide means and which is connected to the upper end, and to pivot 28 which can be guided in the second guide means and is connected to the lower end of side profile 3. Cable 26 is guided from right-hand top corner 13 along second guide rail 2 and to a position below left-hand bottom corner 12, where cable 26 is guided via a guide wheel 22 to a position below right-hand bottom corner 14. Cable 26 is here fed back along first guide rail 1 via a guide wheel 23 and then carried back via guide wheels 24 and 25 to right-hand top corner 13. Displacing means are further also provided for auxiliary profile 4. These consist of a cable system 6 with a continuous cable 32 which runs along two guide wheels 30, 31 placed one above the other, wherein guide wheels 30, 31 are located close to respectively left-hand bottom corner 12 and left-hand top corner 11. An operator close to left-hand bottom corner 12 can then easily move cables 26 and 32 upward or downward so as to obtain the desired displacement of side profile 3 and auxiliary profile 4. The displacing means illustrated in the embodiment of figure 1 have the advantage that they can be manually operated and are very simple. It will however be apparent that many other displacing means can be envisaged which fall within the scope of the invention. The displacing means can be manually controllable or motorized.
Figures 2-4 illustrate successive positions of the different elements of the mounting system of figure 1 during removal of an information carrier. As can be seen in figure 2, in a first step the side profile is moved to the left using displacing means 5. Sliding elements 17 in the horizontal part of guide rail 2 and sliding elements 19 in guide rail 1 hereby slide against each other, wherein the information carrier acquires many folds. In a second step illustrated in figure 3, the lower end of the side profile is uncoupled from guide rail 1 (see arrow C in figure 3) and sliding elements 17 are moved into the arcuate part of guide rail 2. Finally, in a third step illustrated in figure 4, auxiliary profile 4 is moved downward whereby all sliding elements 17, 18, 19 can be reached from the left-hand bottom corner. Note that it is already possible in the second step to uncouple a number of sliding elements 19 from the information carrier. Uncoupling of the sliding elements from the information carrier can take place at any time from the moment the operator can reach them from his position close to the left-hand bottom corner.
Also note that it would be possible according to a variant to connect side profile 3 fixedly to the information carrier.
Instead of using an auxiliary profile 4, the left-hand top corner of the information carrier can for instance be provided with a corner profile for tensioning the information carrier in the left-hand top corner. Other alternatives to the use of an auxiliary profile are discussed below with reference to figures 5-7.
Figure 5 illustrates a second embodiment of a mounting system according to the invention, in which the displacing means are not shown. This system can be coupled to the displacing means of the embodiment of figure 1, but also to a random set of other suitable displacing means. No auxiliary profile 4 is used in the embodiment of figure 5, and the arcuate part of second guide means 102 is embodied differently. The vertical part of guide means 102 extends into the left-hand top corner, where the arcuate part begins. Sliding elements 117 and the corresponding attachment locations on the information carrier must then be embodied such that a guide 117 is situated in the left-hand top corner and beyond the arcuate part in the horizontal part of second guide means 102. As for the embodiment of figure I7 the system further comprises lower guide means 101 and a side profile 103.
Figure 6 shows yet another embodiment wherein an additional guide rail 204, which is placed adjacently of the vertical part of second guide rail 202, is provided instead of auxiliary profile 4. The system is further the same as the embodiment of figure 1, wherein random displacing means can once again be used. This additional guide rail 204 is provided with a number of sliding elements 220 which are intended for connection to the left-hand upper end of an information carrier.
Finally, figure 7 shows a fourth variant intended for the purpose of illustrating that the information carrier can take a random form. Figure 7 shows a mounting system for a more or less oval information carrier. The mounting system of figure 7 comprises first guide means 301, second guide means 302 and a side profile 303. The function of these guide means and the side profile is the same as the function described with reference to figures 1-3, and will not be further elucidated here.
The skilled person will appreciate that many modifications can be made to the exemplary embodiments given above, and that the scope of protection is defined solely by the appended claims. Lighting can for instance thus be provided in the mounting system, which lighting can be arranged around the information carrier or behind the information carrier, in accordance with the desired effect. The displacing means can further be made particularly user- friendly by for instance making use, in the case of a cable system, of cables in different colours. The information carrier can further be made user-friendly, wherein a different colour is for instance used for the eyes in the information carrier on the front and rear side. It is further possible to provide a border which conceals the displacing means and/or the guide rails. These and other refinements do of course fall within the scope of the present invention.
