an activation unit (48), and a reservoir assembly (12) including a reservoir containing material to be dispensed,
the reservoir assembly (12) removably coupled to the activation unit (48) for replacement by a similar reservoir assembly (12),
an electromagnetic radiation waveguide (64; 184; 200) having an inlet and an outlet and providing a path (64; 264) for transmission of electromagnetic radiation from the inlet to the outlet, the waveguide comprising a frangible portion
the electromagnetic radiation sensor (56; 72; 256; 356) carried by the activation unit (48) sensing electromagnetic radiation from the waveguide (64; 184; 200) via an outlet,
at least part of the waveguide (64; 184; 200) carried by the reservoir assembly and removable therewith, and
a control mechanism to permit operation of the dispenser system (10) only when the electromagnetic radiation sensed by the sensor appropriately correlates to a pre-selected electromagnetic radiation profile,
wherein removal of the reservoir assembly (12) from the activation unit (48) breaks the frangible portion.
