Definitions

  • the present invention relates to a trainer, and more particularly to an elliptical trainer for arms that fully exercises an exerciser's arms.
  • a conventional exercising device for arms has two opposite sides and a base and two handlebars connected pivotally to the sides.
  • an exerciser stands or sits on the base, grips and moves the handlebars back and forth to exercise arms.
  • a motion path of arms led by the exercising device is simple, monotonous and limited in a narrow spatial range so cannot entirely exercise and train all of the muscles of the arms such as biceps and triceps.
  • the motion path of arms guided by the exercising device is not customizable so the arms cannot move smoothly and easily, which decreases exercising efficiency of the arms.
  • the present invention provides an elliptical trainer for arms to mitigate or obviate the aforementioned problems.
  • the main objective of the invention is to provide an elliptical trainer for arms that fully exercises an exerciser's arms.
  • An elliptical trainer for arms in accordance with the present invention comprises a frame, a resistance-wheel assembly and a driving assembly.
  • the resistance-wheel assembly is mounted on the frame and is capable of providing resistance against an exerciser.
  • the driving assembly is connected to the frame and the resistance-wheel assembly and has two crank arms and two bar linkage assemblies connected pivotally. Each bar linkage assembly has a handlebar and a linking bar connected pivotally. Because the elliptical trainer guides exercisers' arms in an elliptical motion path, muscles of the arms are fully exercised and trained.
  • a first embodiment of an elliptical trainer for arms in accordance with the present application comprises a frame 1, a resistance-wheel assembly 2 and a driving assembly 3.
  • the frame 1 may have a base 10, a supporting frame 11, a seat 12 and a cushion 13.
  • the supporting frame 11 is mounted on the base 10.
  • the seat 12 is mounted on the base 10 and is separated from the supporting frame 11 at a predetermined distance to allow free movement of arms of an exerciser when the exerciser is sitting on the seat 12.
  • the cushion 13 may be made of resilient material and is mounted on the seat 12.
  • the resistance-wheel assembly 2 is mounted on the supporting frame 11 of the frame 1, is capable of providing resistance against the exerciser's exercise on the elliptical trainer and may have a resistance-wheel 20, a driving wheel 21 and a transmission member 22.
  • the resistance-wheel 20 is mounted rotatably on the supporting frame 11 and has an axle and a driven member 201.
  • the axle is mounted centrally on and connects the resistance-wheel 20 on the supporting frame 11.
  • the driven member 201 is mounted securely on the axle.
  • the driving wheel 21 is mounted rotatably on the supporting frame 11, located above the resistance-wheel 20 and has an axle 211.
  • the axle 211 is mounted rotatably on the supporting frame 11 and mounted through the driving wheel 21.
  • the transmission member 22 is connected between the resistance-wheel 20 and the driving wheel 21 so that the resistance-wheel 20 is rotated in response to rotation of the driving wheel 21 and provides suitable resistance against the rotation of the driving wheel 21 to resist movement of the exerciser during exercise.
  • the resistance-wheel 21 may combine a magnetic assembly to adjust the resistance against the driving wheel 21 to allow the exerciser to exercise with different levels of effort.
  • the transmission member 21 may be a resilient transmission belt mounted around the driving wheel 21 and the driven member 201 of the resistance-wheel 20.
  • the driving assembly 3 is connected to the supporting frame 11 of the frame 1 and the resistance-wheel assembly 2 and has two crank arms 30 and two bar linkage assemblies 31.
  • crank arms 30 are connected pivotally and oppositely on the frame 1, may be mounted securely and oppositely on the axle 211 of the driving wheel 21 to pivot on the supporting frame 11, extend oppositely over and each crank arm 30 has a mounting end and a connecting end.
  • the mounting end is connected pivotally to the frame 1 and may be mounted securely on the axle 211 of the driving wheel 211.
  • the bar linkage assemblies 31 are connected to the supporting frame 11 of the frame 1, are connected respectively to and correspond to the crank arms 30 and each bar linkage assembly 31 has a handlebar 32 and a linking bar 33.
  • the handlebar 32 is connected to a corresponding crank arm 30 and has a gripping end 321, an intermediate section 322 and a joining end 323.
  • the gripping end 321 allows the exerciser to grip the gripping end 321 and pivot the handlebar 32 elliptically to exercise his/her arms and may have a hand grip formed on and protruding outwardly from the gripping end 321 for gripping purposes.
  • the intermediate section 32 is connected pivotally to the connecting end of the corresponding crank arm 30.
  • the linking bar 33 has two ends. One end of the linking bar 33 is connected pivotally to the joining end 323 of the handlebar 32 and the other end is connected pivotally to the supporting frame 11 of the frame 1.
  • the exerciser grips and pivots the driving assemblies 30 to rotate the driving wheel 21 against the resistance of the resistance-wheel 20 and his/her arms move substantially along an elliptical motion path A to fully exercise and train all muscles of the arms.
  • a second embodiment of the elliptical trainer in accordance with the present application is similar to the first embodiment, modifies the handlebars 32 and may have a seat 12 and a cushion 13.
  • Each handlebar 32 further has an extension bar 325 and a pedal 326.
  • the extension bar 325 is formed on and protrudes down from the joint end of the handlebar 32.
  • the pedal 326 is mounted pivotally on the extension bar 325 and allows the exerciser to step on the pedals 326 to simultaneously exercise his/her legs during arm exercise.
  • a third embodiment of the elliptical trainer in accordance with the present invention is similar to the first embodiment and modifies the driving assembly 3.
  • the driving assembly 3 further has two stabilizing assemblies 34.
  • the stabilizing assemblies 34 are connected to the supporting frame 11, are connected respectively to and correspond respectively to the handlebars 32 and each stabilizing assembly 34 has a first stabilizing bar 35 and a second stabilizing bar 36.
  • the first stabilizing bar 35 is connected pivotally to the supporting frame 11.
  • the second stabilizing bar 36 is connected pivotally to the first stabilizing bar 35 and a corresponding handlebar 32 at a pivoting section 324 between the gripping end 321 and the intermediate section 322 of the corresponding handlebar 32.
  • a fourth embodiment of the elliptical trainer in accordance with the present invention is similar to the third embodiment and further has the extension bars 325, pedals 326, seat 12 and pad 13 to provide exercisers with leg exercising functions.
  • the exerciser When using the first embodiment of the elliptical trainer as shown in Figs. 4 and 5 , the exerciser sits on the seat 12 and grips the handgrips 321 to exercise the arms based on the elliptical motion path A.
  • the resistance-wheel assembly 2 provides sufficient resistance against the motion of arms so that the exerciser is able to do more heavy-duty exercise to expend more calories.
  • the exerciser sits on the seat 12, grips the handgrips 321 and steps on the pedals 326 to exercise the arms based on the elliptical motion path A and legs based on another elliptical motion path B.
  • the elliptical trainer guides exercisers' arms in the elliptical motion path A, muscles of the arms are fully exercised and trained. Furthermore, the elliptical trainer is capable of exercising both exercisers' arms and legs to provide advanced exercising effect.
