Abstract
Description
- The present invention relates to a connection device, particularly for door and window frames.
- As is known, window, door, window-door frames and the like are conventionally made either of a wood material or of steel or aluminium and alloys thereof, in normal or contoured section members, or also of a plastics material.
- The elements constituting the movable part of a window or door frame are butt connected to one another thereby defining an angle of 90° therebetween.
- The most conventionally used connecting system, mainly as the door and window frames are constituted by wood sections, is the so-called tenon and mortise connection system, in which a mortise, constituted by a recess formed at an end portion of an element, engages therein a tenon, or male element, formed on the other portion to be connected.
- The aim of the present invention is to provide a tenon and mortise connection system, particularly suitable for making door and window frames, which is much more strong and reliable than conventional door and window frame connecting systems.
- Within the scope of the above mentioned aim, a main object of the invention is to provide such a connecting device which may be made by already existing processing machines.
- Another object of the present invention is to provide such a connecting device, which owing to its specifically designed constructional features, is very reliable and safe in operation.
- According to one aspect of the present invention, the above mentioned aim and objects, as well as yet other objects, which will become more apparent hereinafter, are achieved by a connecting device for door and window frames, characterized in that said connecting device comprises mortise means formed on a head portion of a first element, and tenon means formed on a head portion of a second element to be associated with said first element, said mortise and tenon means having a substantially T shape.
- Each said mortise and tenon means comprise a stem and a first wing merging with a second wing, said first wing having an extension slightly larger than that of said second wing, both said wings extending in succession with one another substantially along a same middleline.
- Both said wings are merged or fitted to said central stem through respective curved surfaces.
- Further characteristics and advantages of the present invention will become more apparent hereinafter from the following detailed disclosure of a preferred, though not exclusive, embodiment of the invention which is illustrated, by way of an indicative, but not limitative, example in the accompanying drawings, where:
-
Figure 1 is a perspective view showing the end portions of two elements to be connected, including the connecting device according to the present invention; -
Figure 2 is a partially longitudinally cross-sectioned front view showing the two elements to be connected offigure 1 , in a separated position; -
Figure 3 is a partially longitudinally cross-sectioned front view showing the two elements to be connected offigure 2 , in a connected position; -
Figure 4 is yet another front view showing the two elements to be connected offigure 3 , in a separated position; -
Figure 5 is a front view, similar tofigure 4 , but showing the two elements to be connected offigure 3 , in a connected or joined position;
and -
Figure 6 is a front view of a window or door frame made by using the connecting device according to the present invention. - With reference to the number references of the above mentioned figures, the connecting device according to the present invention, which has been generally indicated by the
reference number 1, comprises amortise 2, formed on ahead 3 of afirst element 4, and atenon 5, formed on the head 6 of asecond element 7 to be associated with thefirst element 4. - According to the present invention, said
mortise 2 andtenon 5 are correspondingly contoured as to define a substantially T shape configuration. - More specifically, the
mortise 2 comprises astem 23 and afirst wing 21 merging with asecond wing 22. - The
first wing 21 has an extension slightly larger than that of thesecond wing 22, both said wings extending in a cascade relationship substantially along the same middleline. - In particular, the
first wing 21 is merged or fitted to thestem 23 through afirst bend 24, whereas thesecond wing 22 is fitted to thestem 23 through asecond bend 25. - Correspondingly, the
tenon 5 comprises atenon stem 53 and afirst tenon wing 51 merging or fitting with asecond tenon wing 52. - The
first tenon wing 51 has an extension slightly larger than that of thesecond tenon wing 52; both said tenon wings extending in a cascade relationship substantially along the same middleline. - The
first wing 51 is fitted to thestem 53 through afirst bend 54, whereas thesecond wing 52 is fitted to thestem 53 through asecond bend 55. - The
wings mortise 2 andtenon 5 substantially extend along that portion which may be called the bottom orbase portion 10 of thecontoured element - Said contoured element has a complex configuration, the components of which substantially comprise a main
longitudinal body 11 associated with thebase body 10. - The
stem longitudinal body 11, - The T-shape of the
mortise 2 andcorresponding tenon 5 provides a perfect restraining between the twoelements - The fitting by bends between the wings and stem, both of the
tenon 5 and themortise 2, in addition to facilitating the making of these elements, facilitates a proper distribution of the shear stress, thereby providing an improved connection mechanical strength. - It has been found that the invention fully achieves the intended aim and objects.
- In fact, the invention has provided a connection device, of a tenon and mortise type, particularly suitable for coupling constructional elements of a door or window frame, which connecting device is both operatively and constructionally improved with respect to conventional connecting systems and which, moreover, may be made in an advantageous manner from the economic and constructional standpoint.
- In practicing the invention, the used materials, as well as the contingent size and shapes, can be any, according to requirements.
