Abstract
Description
- The invention refers to sound reproduction systems and comprises a speaker with air powered feedback mechanism.
- There are three different types of speakers: The closed-type box (cabinet), box with open rear side, box with phase inverter, passive radiator etc.
- The drawbacks of some of these speakers and specifically with the closed-type box, is that a large size box is required for reproduction of low frequencies. Respectively, in systems using relatively small size boxes, electromagnetic feedback, active filters and correction with the use of a computer are required. This increases the complexity and cost of a system and requires more amplifier power. Phase inversion systems tend to synchronize, which worsens the width/frequency output ratio.
- The advantage of this invention is that the speaker's box size is small, it is able to reproduce low frequencies with high performance, does not synchronize and additional devices such as active filters, special amplifiers, computers, etc. are not required.
- Air powered feedback is implemented to eliminate the drawbacks for this invention.
- The dynamic loudspeaker is installed in the box and a flexible rubber adaptor (bellows) is installed at the center of the front side of the cone-shaped membrane. One side of the bellows is attached to the cone-shaped membrane of the loudspeaker and the other to the end of a section of the pipe. Pipes are attached to the side holes of the pipe section, which end up at the holes on the front side of the speaker box.
- The front side of the pipe section may be open or closed with a lid. The bellows is made of the same material as the rubber support of the cone-shaped plastic membrane of the loudspeaker.
- The entire air powered feedback arrangement is constructed in such a manner as to allow air movement from inside the closed speaker box to the bellows and vice versa through the pipes. The bellows expand and compress respectively during this procedure.
- Air powered feedback air allows a smaller box size up to the dimensions of the loudspeaker and creates a good width-frequency ratio.
- The invention is detailed below with reference to the attached drawings.
-
Drawing 1 shows the side view of the speaker with air powered feedback. -
Drawing 2a shows the front view of the speaker with air powered feedback andDrawing 2b shows the plan view section of the speaker with air powered feedback. - To the loudspeaker (5) is installed inside the box (7). A flexible rubber adaptor (bellows) (1) has been installed at the center of the front side of the loudspeaker's cone-shaped membrane (6).
- One side of the bellows (1) is attached to the cone-shaped membrane of the loudspeaker (6) and the other to the end of a section of the pipe (2).
- The front side of the pipe section (2) may be open or closed with a lid (4).
- Pipes (3) are attached to the side holes of the pipe section (2) which end up at the holes on the front side of the speaker box (7).
- The pipe system (2)(3) is at a fixed distance from the front side of the box (7) so that the loudspeaker's cone-shaped membrane movement can trigger compression or expansion of the bellows (1).
- The dimensions of pipes (2)(3) and bellows (1) differ from this system accordingly.
- Movement of the loudspeaker's (5) cone-shaped membrane towards the front (6) causes thinning of the air inside the box (7) and the flexible rubber adaptor (bellows) (1) is therefore compressed, pushing the air that is inside the bellows outwards; part of this air enters the box (7) through the pipes (3) (2) and equalizes the air pressure inside the box, thus reducing the resistance to the cone-shaped membrane (6) and increasing the width of movement of the cone-shaped membrane (6). This increases the performance of the loudspeaker - woofer.
- Movement of the loudspeaker's (5) cone-shaped membrane (6) towards the back causes increased air pressure in the box (7), i.e. air compression. At that moment the bellows (1) expands and absorbs the air from the box (7) through the pipes (3)(2), and thus decreases air pressure in the box (7). The reduction of the resistance of the movement of the cone-shaped membrane (6) and the increase in the width of movement of the cone-shaped membrane (6) improve the performance.
- Where the lid (4) is installed and the entire system is air-tight (no exchange of air from outside the box), it is possible to draw air (partial evacuation) from the box, which will decrease resistance to the movement of the plastic cone-shaped membrane (6) and increase the system's performance.
Claims (3)
- Speaker with air powered feedback, consisting of a dynamic loudspeaker (5), speaker box (7), flexible rubber adaptor (bellows) (1), pipe section (2) and pipes (3), characterized in that the air powered feedback arrangement is constructed so as to move the air from inside the closed box (7) through pipes (2)(3) to the bellows (1) and vice versa during movement of the cone-shaped membrane (6) of the loudspeaker (5) in order to equalize pressure inside the box (7) and reduce air resistance during movement of the cone-shaped membrane of the loudspeaker (6). Air powered feedback consisting of a bellows (1) and pipe system (2)(3). One side of the bellows (1) is attached to the center of the front side of the cone-shaped membrane (6) of the loudspeaker (5) and the other to the end of a pipe section (2). Pipes (3) are attached to the side holes of the pipe section (2) which end up at the holes on the loudspeaker box (7). The pipe system (2)(3) is at a fixed distance from the front side of the box (7) so that the loudspeaker's cone-shaped membrane movement can trigger compression or expansion of the bellows (1).
- Speaker with air powered feedback, that according to claim 1, characterized in that the front side of the pipe section (2) may be or open or closed with a lid (4).
- Speaker with air powered feedback, that according to claim 1 and 2, characterized in that when the lid (4) is installed the entire system is air-tight (no exchange of air from outside the box), it is possible to draw air (partial evacuation) from the box.
