Abstract

The invention relates to a method for operating an LED arrangement for illumination, backlighting, irradiation or signaling, which comprises one or more light-emitting diode I, which are operated with switched DC voltage. In order to enable a reduction in the power consumption of the LED array at the lowest possible brightness, each LED I of the LED array is connected via its associated switching element E to the power source D during a power-on state and is disconnected during a subsequent off state again, by means of a control circuit F such a clock frequency is set greater than 100 Hz, that either the illuminance in the clocked operation of that in the untimed operation with the predetermined for the LED I characteristic operating current deviates by more than 5% or that, at least two LEDs I, always only one Part of the LEDs I is turned on and in two successive switch states each other LEDs I are turned on.
