Abstract
Description
- The present invention refers to a modular device for manually unwinding a film wound on a core.
- The main field of application for such devices regards manual packaging of palletized goods.
- Various devices that enable manually unwinding of a film wound on a core to perform the abovementioned function, are available in the market.
- Generally, such prior art devices consist of a first portion that can be forcedly inserted into the core of the reel to be unwound and in a second sleeve portion, which is extended laterally outside the core.
- The use of such devices is very simple and consists of manually imparting a rotation to the sleeve so as to arrange various layers of film around the product to be packaged.
- However, though commonly used, such prior art devices reveal some drawbacks.
- A first drawback lies in the fact that varying the tensioning of the film during unwinding thereof is quite complex.
- Actually, currently there is only one way for varying the tensioning of the film during unwinding thereof, with the aim of wrapping the goods to be covered to the utmost, consisting in manually holding the film with the ensuing risk of damaging it.
- In the latter case, i.e. in case of even partial tearing of the film, the step of unwinding the film is extremely jeopardised and difficult to reposition to the initial conditions due to the characteristics of the film which, in case of tearing, tends to divide into small strips very easily.
- Furthermore at the moment, disadvantageously, such tearing occurs often due to inadvertent falling or impacts the reels are subjected to.
- An object of the present invention is that of providing a modular device for manually unwinding a film wound on a core capable of overcoming the previously mentioned drawbacks of the prior art in an extremely simple, inexpensive and particularly functional manner.
- Another object is that of providing a modular device for manually unwinding a film wound on a core in which the tensioning of the film can be varied manually during unwinding thereof without being exposed to the risk of locally damaging or tearing the film.
- A further object is that of providing a modular device for manually unwinding a film wound on a core which allows avoiding damaging or tearing the same due to inadvertent fall and/or possible impacts the same device might be subjected to.
- These objects, according to the present invention, are attained by providing a modular device for manually unwinding a film wound on a core as described in claim 1.
- Further characteristics of the invention are outlined in the subsequent claims.
- Characteristics and advantages of a modular device for manually unwinding a film wound on a core according to the present invention shall be clearer from the following exemplifying and non-limiting description, with reference to the attached schematic drawings, wherein:
-
figure 1 is a perspective view of an embodiment of a modular device for manually unwinding a film wound on a core according to the present invention; -
figure 2 is a perspective view of the device offigure 1 ; -
figure 3 is a cross-sectional view of the device offigure 2 ; -
figure 4 is a perspective view of an element of the device offigure 1 ; -
figure 5 is a top view of the element offigure 4 ;figure 6 is a cross-sectional enlarged detail of the element offigure 4 ; -
figure 7 is a perspective view of a second element of the device offigure 1 ; -
figure 8 is a perspective view of a third element of the device offigure 1 ; and -
figure 9 is a cross-sectional view of the device offigure 8 . - With reference to the figures, a modular device for manually unwinding a
film 11 wound on a core is shown with 100. - Such
modular device 100, as observable infigure 1 , consists of two half-reel elements 10 which can be associated to the opposite ends of the core on which thefilm 11 to be unwound is wound. - Generally, both the core and the
film 11 can be of any known type/material. - Each of the two half-
reel elements 10, whose assembled example is visible infigures 2 and 3 , comprises an element for supporting the core of thecylindrical hub 12 type and atubular element 13. - In a preferred embodiment the
cylindrical hub element 12 comprises tapered surfaces so as to define a frusto-conical shape in which, with the device assembled, the larger base is oriented and coupled by interference inwards the cylindrical core supporting thefilm 11. Obviously, in such case even thetubular element 13 has a corresponding conical geometry. - In particular, the
cylindrical hub element 12 can be coupled integral with the core while the conicaltubular element 13 is arranged inside the cylindrical/frusto-conical hub element 12 and serves as a handgrip portion of the device during unwinding of thefilm 11. - According to the invention, as observable in the section shown in
figure 3 , the conicaltubular element 13 is locked axially, i.e. it cannot slip off, on the cylindrical/frusto-conical hub element 12, but it is rotatable with respect thereto. - Thus, during use, the user, solely by manually gripping the inner surface of the conical
tubular element 13, rotates it with respect to the cylindrical hub element, thus allowing the unwinding of thefilm 11 from the relative core constrained on the conicaltubular element 13. - It is clear that the unwinding operation, due to the device of the present invention, is extremely easy, given that it does not require the user to manually rotate any element, but solely to operate on the handgrip with the palm of the hand on the inner surface of the conical
tubular element 13. - Furthermore, the
cylindrical hub element 12 comprises a widenedhead portion 14 for selective manual gripping, in particular, with the thumb of the hand which operates on the inner surface of the conicaltubular element 13, for integrally joining the cylindrical/frusto-conical hub 12 with the conicaltubular element 13 during unwinding. - Thus, simultaneously operating manually on the conical
tubular element 13 and on thecylindrical hub 12 allows stopping the relative rotation and thus blocking the unwinding of thefilm 11. - Preferably, as mentioned above, such simultaneous action can be carried out in an extremely simple manner, by operating with the palm of the hand on the inner portion of the conical
tubular element 13 and with the thumb of the same hand againsthead portion 14 of the cylindrical/frusto-conical hub element 12. - This allows varying the tensioning of the
film 11 during unwinding of the same at will, without the risk of locally damaging or tearing it. - As described previously, the frusto-
conical hub element 12 integrally supports the core on which thefilm 11 is wound. - In order to guarantee such integral coupling, the cylindrical/frusto-
conical hub element 12 comprises acylindrical portion 15 provided, on the outer surface thereof, with constraint means 16 integral with the core. - In the illustrated example, such integral constraint means 16 comprise rectangular-shaped projecting
portions 16 arranged along thecylindrical portion 15. Preferably, as mentioned previously, thecylindrical portion 15 of thehub element 12 can be tapered so as to define a frusto-conical shape in which, with the device assembled, the larger base is oriented and coupled by interference inwards the cylindrical core supporting thefilm 11. - Such solution is extremely advantageous given that in such manner, the
anchoring fins 16 ensure high interference on the inner diameter of the cylindrical core on which theplastic film 11 is wound. - Actually, in such case the assembly step can be carried out by forcedly inserting the
fins 16 which, due to an elastic return, are secured onto the inner surface of the core, usually made of cardboard. - Thus, contrary to the prior art devices, the
radial anchoring fins 16 ensure an ideal interference even in case of wear of the cylindrical core supporting thefilm 11. - Lastly, according to such embodiment, the hub element 12-core coupling supporting the
film 11 is both guaranteed and maintained over time due to the combined effect of the geometric interference of thehub 12 on the core and due to the presence of thefins 16 arranged tangentially on the frusto-conical surface 15. In particular, these projectingportions 16 interfere with the outer surface of the core bearing the film, so as to prevent any relative rotation between the core and the cylindrical/frusto-conical hub element 12. Preferably, as shown infigure 7 , also the tubular element comprises ahead portion 17 which can be coupled inside the widenedhead 14 of the cylindrical/frusto-conical hub element 12. - In the shown embodiment, the coupling of the cylindrical/frusto-
conical hub 12 with the conicaltubular element 13 is of the forced and removable type and it occurs through the snap-insertion of an annularperipheral portion 18 of thehead portion 17 of the conicaltubular element 13 into aseat 19 provided inside the widenedhead 14 of the cylindrical/frusto-conical hub element 12. - As shown in
figure 6 , theseat 19 is defined by thebase 20 andside 21 portions of the widenedhead 14 of thecylindrical hub element 12 and by arib 22 parallel to thebase 20. - Thus, the conical
tubular element 13, snap-inserted into theseat 19, is locked axially with respect to the cylindrical/frusto-conical hub element 12, but rotatable with respect thereto. - A
side element 30 for protecting theouter surface 21 of the widenedhead 14 of the cylindrical/frusto-conical hub element 12 can be provided according to the invention for facilitating the tensioning of thefilm 11 during unwinding thereof. - An example of such
protective element 30, shown infigures 8 and 9 , consists in an internally C-shaped ring element 30, preferably made of rubber plastic material with high coefficient of friction, in whichsuch ring element 30 is constrained integral with the widenedhead 14 of the cylindrical/frusto-conical hub element 12. - Such constraint can for example be obtained by snap-inserting at least one
end 31 of thering element 30 into acorresponding seat 40 obtained on the widenedhead 14 of the cylindrical/frusto-conical hub element 12 and theother end 32 above therib 22. - According to such last preferred embodiment, the tensioning of the film occurs by manually operating simultaneously with the conical
tubular element 13, for example with the palm of the hand, and with thering 30 constrained to the cylindrical/frusto-conical hub element 12, for example with the thumb of the same hand. - Thus, operating with the palm of the hand on the inner portion of the conical
tubular element 13 and with the thumb of the same hand against thering 30, allows an improved tensioning of thefilm 11 during unwinding thereof, due to the high friction material which thering element 30 is made of, without the risk of locally damaging or tearing thefilm 11. - Furthermore, such ring 30 - due to the plastic rubber material thereof and arrangement thereof on the peripheral portion of the
device 10, in case of inadvertent falling and/or possible impacts the device is subjected to - prevents the risk of locally damaging or tearing thefilm 11. - It has thus been observed that the modular device for manually unwinding a film wound on a core, according to the present invention attains the previously outlined objects.
- The modular device for manually unwinding a film wound on a core of the present invention thus conceived can be subjected to numerous modifications and variants, all falling within the same invention concept; furthermore, all details can be replaced by technically equivalent elements. In practice, the materials used, as well as dimensions thereof, may be of any type according to the technical requirements.
