Description

  • The present invention relates to a security lock.
  • A security lock according to the preamble of claim 1 is disclosed in document EP 0 942 125 A1 .
  • Security locks are known comprising a European cylinder which constitutes the recognition member for the key and, by means of this latter, the member by which the lock mechanism is operated.
  • In the case of security locks operable from both sides, for example to be installed in armour-plated doors, the cylinder comprises two rotors accessible from both sides of the lock and a single stator which houses the two rotors, and the relative notching pins. The axial and overall length of the European cylinder is greater than the lock thickness, such as to cause it to project from both sides of the lock. To achieve an acceptable security level, the projecting parts must be protected by armour (defenders) consisting of a cylindrical block secured to the lock, which is fixed to the lock holder plate welded to the external sheet metal of the armour-plated door.
  • This block, which is generally fixed to the lock by screws applied from the inside, has the drawback, being also projecting, of being able to be engaged by any tubular member (for example an Innocenti tube) and be withdrawn together with the cylinder.
  • The object of the invention is to provide a security lock which enables it to be ascertained whether the defender has been tampered with and, if this is the case, to maintain the bolts engaged in the door jamb.
  • This object is attained according to the invention by a security lock as described in claim 1.
  • The present invention is further clarified hereinafter with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
  • Figure 1
is an interrupted exploded view of a lock according to the invention,
    Figure 2
is a front view thereof without the cover, in the condition in which the bolts are not engaged,
    Figure 3
shows it in the same view as Figure 2, in the configuration with the bolts engaged,
    Figure 4
is a perspective view thereof, shown in the same configuration as Figure 3,
    Figure 5
shows it in the same view as Figure 3, in the configuration with the bolts blocked following tampering,
    Figure 6
is an exploded perspective view of the bolt blocking member and its control pin,
    Figure 7
is a cross-section through the lock, and
    Figures 8, 9 and 10
show a further stop device for the bolt blocking member.
  • As can be seen from the figures, the lock of the invention is indicated overall by 2 and comprises, within a casing 4 fixable to the armour-plated door (not shown), a plate 6 for supporting the bolts 8 and a mechanism for manipulating said plate with said bolts.
  • The lock comprises a traditional cylinder 10 with a plug 12 into which a key (not shown) can be inserted axially to release the plug, enabling it to be rotated together with a pawl rigid with it.
  • An L-shaped counteracting element 20 is hinged to the structure 16 supporting the cylinder 10 on a pin 18, and has its free end 22 hook-shaped with a seat 24.
  • The distance between the hinge pin 18 and the horizontal portion of the L-shaped element 20 corresponds to the distance between the pin 18 and the shoulder 26 of the bolt support plate 6 when the bolts have emerged from the lock and are inserted in their seat in the door jamb.
  • A spring 28 acts on the element 20 to rotate it clockwise (observing the figures) about the pin 18, the rotation being opposed by the engagement of a control pin 30 in the seat 24 of the L-shaped element 20.
  • In particular (see Figures 6 and 7), the control pin 30 comprises an annular flange 32 presenting two cylindrical pieces 34, 36 respectively, with the end of the piece 36 inserted into a corresponding circular hole provided in the wall of the casing 4.
  • In this configuration in which the cylinder 34 is engaged in the seat 24, the flange 32 elastically compresses a solenoid spring 40, this configuration being maintained stable by the counteracting action of a defender 42, applied to protect the cylinder 10 and prevent the pin 30 from moving axially.
  • The invention also provides for the use of a further blocking member 44 (see Figures 8-10) the function of which is to prevent rotation of the element 20 with the bolts projecting and with the defender 42 not applied to the cylinder 10, for example during verification of correct lock operation.
  • This member 44 consists of a slide provided with a rib 46 which, following the elastic action of a spring 48, acts against a recess 50 provided in the horizontal portion of the support 20 such as to prevent its rotation under the force of the spring 28 if the defender is not applied.
  • One end of the slide is housed in a slotted hole 52 through which screws pass for securing the defender to the lock.
  • The result is that when the defender is applied to the lock, inserting a screw 54 into the slotted hole 52 causes the slide 44 to travel, against the elastic action of the spring 48, in the sense of disengaging the rib 46 from the seat 50 of the L-shaped support (see Figure 10) and allowing only the pin 30 to act as the blocking element when the defender is applied.
  • The lock operation is traditional in the sense that, when in the normal state (see Figure 2):
    • the bolts 8 are in their withdrawn position,
    • the L-shaped element is disengaged from the slide,
    • the L-shaped element is disposed in the configuration urged by the spring 28 but blocked by the counteraction offered by the shoulder 26 and by the pin 30 inserted into the seat 24.
  • At the moment in which the user rotates the key to engage the bolts, the plate 6 moves towards the left (observing Figures 3 and 4) to release the L-shaped element, which however does not rotate as it is still blocked by the insertion of the pin 30 in the seat 24.
  • At the moment in which a suspicious character attempts to tamper with the defender, removing this latter has the effect of causing the pin, previously compressed by the spring 40, to emerge through the hole, with consequent disengagement of the L-shaped element which rotates, urged by the spring 20, to be positioned in the configuration shown in Figure 5.
  • In this configuration the element 20 acts against the shoulder 26 to prevent it travelling rearwards, and consequently to maintain the bolts inserted in their seat.
