Abstract
A lid assembly (1) of a container includes a lid engaging device (10), a transmission assembly (20) mounted on the lid engaging device, and a lid (30) including a first pivotal section (31) and a second pivotal section (32) disposed opposed to each other. The first and second pivotal sections define an imaginary axis "A" extended therebetween, and the first and second pivotal sections are mounted on the lid engaging device. The first pivotal section is engaged with the transmission assembly. The lid is pivoted automatically by the transmission assembly. The lid is pivotal about the imaginary axis "A" and is moveable between an open position that enables items to be put in the container and a closed position in which the lid prevents items to be put in the container.
Description
- The present invention relates to a container including a lid which can be opened and closed automatically.

M317423 - The present invention is, therefore, intended to obviate or at least alleviate the problems encountered in the prior art.
- According to the present invention, a lid assembly for a container includes a lid engaging device, a transmission assembly mounted on the lid engaging device, and a lid including a first pivotal section and a second pivotal section disposed opposed to each other. The first and second pivotal sections define an imaginary axis "A" extended therebetween, and the first and second pivotal sections are mounted on the lid engaging device. The first pivotal section is engaged with the transmission assembly. The lid is pivoted automatically by the transmission assembly. The lid is pivotal about the imaginary axis "A" and is moveable between an open position that enables items to be put in the container and a closed position in which the lid prevents items to be put in the container.
- The lid includes a first portion and a second portion on two sides of the imaginary axis "A". The first portion has a first weight and the second portion has a second weight, respectively. Additionally, the first weight is equal to the second weight. Thus, the pivoting of the lid is stable and balanced.
- In the preferred embodiment, the first portion has the same dimension as the second portion. The imaginary axis "A" extends transversely to an imaginary axis "B" and crosses at an intersection. The imaginary axis "B" extends between first and second points on the circumferential edge of the lid. The intersection is spaced from the first point at a first radial distance and is spaced from the second point at a second radial distance, respectively. Additionally, the first radial distance is equal to the second radial distance.

Fig. 11 is an extended cross-sectional view ofFig. 10 and shows the lid is in a fully opened position. - Referring to the drawings, a container in accordance with the present invention includes a
lid assembly 1 and areceptacle 2. Thereceptacle 2 includes acompartment 21 formed therein, and thecompartment 21 has an open end and a closed end, and items are adapted to be put in thecompartment 21 of thereceptacle 2 through the open end. - The
lid assembly 1 includes a lidengaging device 10 mounted on thereceptacle 2. The lidengaging device 10 includes ahole 11 extending therethrough, and thehole 11 is in communication with the open end of thereceptacle 2 after engagement of the lidengaging device 10 with thereceptacle 2. In this embodiment, thehole 11 has a substantially circular cross section. The lidengaging device 10 also includes awall 111 delimiting thehole 11. In the preferred embodiment, thewall 111 has a substantially circular cross section. Furthermore, thewall 111 is utilized to pivotally connect with alid 30. Thelid 30 has a cross sectional area corresponding to that of thewall 11 and is adapted to be moved between an open position that enables items to be put in thereceptacle 2 through thehole 11 of thelid engaging device 10 and a closed position in which thelid 30 prevents items to be put in thereceptacle 2. Specifically, thewall 111 includes a firstpivotal connection 12 and a secondpivotal connection 13 opposite to the firstpivotal connection 12, thelid 30 includes a firstpivotal section 31 and a secondpivotal section 32 extending from a circumferential edge thereof and disposed opposite to each other, and the firstpivotal section 31 is mounted on the firstpivotal connection 12 and the secondpivotal section 32 is mounted on the secondpivotal connection 13, respectively. - The
lid 30 is pivoted automatically by atransmission assembly 20. Thetransmission assembly 20 is mounted on anengaging section 15 of the lidengaging device 10. Theengaging section 15 extends outward from an outer perimeter of thewall 111 to anouter perimeter 101 of the lidengaging device 10. Thetransmission assembly 20 includes acircuit board 21. Thecircuit board 21 is electrically connected to an electricity supply 3. The electricity supply 3 is also mounted on theengaging section 15. Thetransmission assembly 20 also includes amotor 22 connected to thecircuit board 21, atransmission member 23 driven by themotor 22 and a sensor. Thetransmission member 23 includes ashaft 231 rotatably moved by themotor 22 and engaged in anengaging hole 33 formed in the firstpivotal section 31. Thus, thelid 30 is adapted to be moved between the open position and the closed position under rotation of theshaft 23. In this embodiment, theshaft 231 includes a plurality ofteeth 232, and theengaging hole 33 includes a plurality of recess engaged with the plurality ofteeth 232 respectively to allow the pivoting of thelid 30 under rotation of theshaft 23. Additionally, the sensor is utilized to transmit electric signals to thecircuit board 21 so that thecircuit board 21 controls a rotational direction of themotor 22 and a rotational direction of thelid 30. The sensor may be a heat-sensing device, touch-sensing device, a movement-sensing device. It is understood that all sensors are within the scope of the limitation. - In addition, the
lid 30 includes aprotrusion 34 formed on the secondpivotal section 32. A positing-limitingmember 35 is engaged with theprotrusion 34. Specifically, theprotrusion 34 includes a connectingend 341, and the positing-limitingmember 35 includes acoupling section 351 including anaperture 354 in which the connectingend 341 is engaged in order to connect the position-limitingmember 35 with theprotrusion 34. As thelid 30 is pivoted, the position-limitingmember 35 is rotated concurrently. Furthermore, the positing-limitingmember 35 includes a first limitingedge 352 and a second limitingedge 353 extending radially from thecoupling section 351, with the first limitingedge 352 extending in a first direction and the second limitingedge 353 extending in a second direction. Thelid engaging device 10 includes astopper 16 selectively engaging with the first limitingedge 352 and the second limitingedge 353. Furthermore, the first limitingedge 352 is engaged with thestopper 16 as thelid 30 is in the closed position, while the second limitingedge 353 is engaged with thestopper 16 as thelid 30 is in the open position. - The container also includes a
protection cap 40 mounted on thelid engaging device 10. Theprotection cap 40 is adapted to conceal thetransmission assembly 20 and to protect thetransmission assembly 20 free from dust and against an external damage. Theprotection cap 40 includes a bottom edge fitted along theouter perimeter 101 of thelid engaging device 10 and a top edge fitted along the outer perimeter of thewall 111. The top edge includes an opening 42 having a cross sectional area greater than that of thelid 30 in order to enable thelid 30 to be moved to the open position without being interfered by theprotection cap 40. Theprotection cap 40 further includes two holdingsections 41, with one of the holdingsections 41 retained on theshaft 231 and the other of the holdingsections 41 retained on theprotrusion 34 in order to prevent disengagement of theprotection cap 40 from thelid engaging device 10. - The
lid engaging device 10 also includes a blockingmember 14 extending from and disposed within the outer perimeter of thewall 111. The blockingmember 14 is engagable with thelid 30 to stop rotation of thelid 30.Fig. 10 shows that the blockingmember 14 is engaged with thelid 30 when thelid 30 is in the closed position, whereas the blockingmember 14 is disengaged from thelid 30 when thelid 30 is in the open position. Additionally, thelid engaging device 10 includes a retainingmember 17 disposed in proximity to thestopper 16. The retainingmember 17 is utilized to prevent disengagement of the position-limitingmember 35 from theprotrusion 34. - Referring to
Figs. 8 through 11 , thelid 30 is pivotal about a longitudinal imaginary axis "A". The imaginary axis "A" extends between the first 31 and second 32 pivotal sections. Likewise, the imaginary axis "A" extends between theshaft 231 and theprotrusion 34. Accordingly, theshaft 231 is coaxial with theprotrusion 34. Additionally, a longitudinal imaginary axis "B" extends between first and second points on the circumferential edge of thelid 30 and transverse to the imaginary axis "A". The imaginary axes "A" and "B" cross at an intersection. The intersection is spaced from the first point at a first radial distance and is spaced from the second point at a second radial distance. Preferably, the first and second radial distances are equal to L. - Furthermore, the
lid 30 has a first portion and a second portion on two sides of the imaginary axis "A". The first portion has a first weight, and the second portion has a second weight. It is an aspect of the present invention that the first weight equals to the second weight in order to enable the pivoting of thelid 30 stable and balanced. It is noticed that the first portion has the same dimension as the second portion in order to make the pivoting of thelid 30 stable and balanced. - Moreover, the
transmission assembly 20 is not subject to a high load and a high torque in order to pivot thelid 30. Therefore, thetransmission assembly 20 is energy saving. Additionally, thetransmission assembly 20 is reliable and not liable to become damaged. - While the specific embodiments have been illustrated and described, numerous modifications come to mind without significantly departing from the spirit of invention and the scope of invention is only limited by the scope of accompanying claims.
Claims (14)
- A lid assembly (1) for a container comprising:a lid engaging device (10);a transmission assembly (20) mounted on the lid engaging device;a lid (30) including a first pivotal section (31) and a second pivotal section (32) extending from a circumferential edge thereof and disposed opposed to each other, with the first and second pivotal sections defining an imaginary axis "A" extended therebetween, with the first and second pivotal sections mounted on the lid engaging device, and with the first pivotal section engaged with the transmission assembly; andwherein the lid is pivoted automatically by the transmission assembly; andwherein the lid is pivotal about the imaginary axis "A" and is moveable between an open position that enables items to be put in the container and a closed position in which the lid prevents items to be put in the container.
- The lid assembly (1) as claimed in claim 1 wherein the lid (30) includes a first portion and a second portion on two sides of the imaginary axis "A", with the first portion having a first weight and the second portion having a second weight, and with the first weight equaling to the second weight.
- The lid assembly (1) as claimed in claim 2 wherein the imaginary axis "A" extends transversely to an imaginary axis "B" and crosses at an intersection, with the imaginary axis "B" extending between first and second points on the circumferential edge of the lid (30), with the intersection spaced from the first point at a first radial distance, with the intersection spaced from the second point at a second radial distance, and with the first and second radial distances equaling to each other.
- The lid assembly (1) as claimed in claim 1 wherein the transmission assembly (20) includes a circuit board (21), a motor (22) connected to the circuit board, and a transmission member (23) driven by the motor and engaged with the first pivotal section (31).
- The lid assembly (1) as claimed in claim 4 wherein the first pivotal section (31) includes an engaging hole (33), with the transmission member (23) including a rotatable shaft (231) engaged in the engaging hole and rotatably moved by the motor (22), and with the lid (30) pivoted under rotation of the shaft.
- The lid assembly (1) as claimed in claim 5 wherein the shaft (231) includes a plurality of teeth (232), with the engaging hole (33) including a plurality of recess engaged with the plurality of teeth (232) respectively.
- The lid assembly (1) as claimed in claim 4 wherein the transmission assembly (20) includes a sensor for transmitting electric signals to the circuit board (21) so that the circuit board controls a rotational direction of the motor (22) and a rotational direction of the lid (30).
- The lid assembly (1) as claimed in claim 1 wherein the lid (30) includes a protrusion (34) formed on the second pivotal section (32), with the protrusion engaged with a positing-limiting member (35), with the positing-limiting member rotatable with the lid (30) and including a first limiting edge (352) and a second limiting edge (353) extending radially in two directions respectively, with the lid engaging device (10) including a stopper (16) selectively engaging with the first limiting edge and the second limiting edge, with the first limiting edge engaged with the stopper as the lid is in the closed position, and with the second limiting edge engaged with the stopper as the lid is in the open position.
- The lid assembly (1) as claimed in claim 1 further comprising a protection cap (40) mounted on the lid engaging device (10), with the protection cap concealing the transmission assembly (20) and including an opening (42) having a cross sectional area greater than a cross sectional area of the lid (30) in order to enable the lid to be moved to the open position without being interfered by the protection cap.
- The lid assembly (1) as claimed in claim 1 wherein the lid engaging device (10) includes a hole (11) extending therethrough and a wall (111) delimiting the hole (11), with the lid (30) pivotally connected on the wall, with the wall including a first pivotal connection (12) and a second pivotal connection (13) opposite to the first pivotal connection, and with the first pivotal section (31) mounted on the first pivotal connection, and with the second pivotal section (32) mounted on the second pivotal connection (13).
- The lid assembly (1) as claimed in claim 10 wherein the lid engaging device (10) includes a blocking member (14) extending from and disposed within an outer perimeter of the wall (111), with the blocking member engagable with the lid (30) in order to stop rotation of the lid, with the blocking member engaged with the lid when the lid is in the closed position, and with the blocking member disengaged from the lid when the lid is in the open position.
- The lid assembly (1) as claimed in claim 7 wherein the sensor is a heat-sensing device.
- The lid assembly (1) as claimed in claim 7 wherein the sensor is a touch-sensing device.
- The lid assembly (1) as claimed in claim 7 wherein the sensor is a movement-sensing device.
