Definitions
- the invention relates to a wall tie having a supporting function for an insulation material to be installed in a wall cavity.
- Such a wall tie is known, for example from Dutch patent No. 160, 901 .
- the known wall tie comprises a flat first end part, which can be anchored in a joint of an outer cavity wall, as well as a flat second end part, which can be placed in a glued joint of an inner cavity wall.
- Said wall tie is suitable for relatively soft and easily pierced insulation materials, such as glass wool blankets, for example.
- relatively hard insulation materials such as panels of insulation material
- problems occur, since the first end part is too wide and cannot easily cut through the insulation material.
- the known wall tie may even buckle in that case. Furthermore it has been found in practice that personnel can easily injure themselves on the first end part when carrying out this operation.
- the object of the invention is to obviate the drawbacks of the prior art, that is, to propose a wall tie which can be anchored between the inner and outer cavity walls in a safe, simple and/or easy manner and which is capable of optimally supporting in particular comparatively hard insulation materials in the wall cavity.
- a longitudinal, central bore is formed by a longitudinal central recess or groove in the plug body.
- the insulation material which is for example plate-shaped and comparatively hard, is placed and positioned on the inner cavity wall. Following that, several boreholes are formed in the insulation material and in the inner cavity wall for accommodating the plugs.
- the insulation material is then fixed in position by inserting the plugs through the insulation material and into the boreholes in the inner cavity wall.
- the pins are inserted into the respective longitudinal bores in the plugs. The pins are thus anchored in the outer cavity wall near their ends remote from the inner cavity wall.
- the present wall ties are anchored between the inner and outer cavity walls in a simple and easy manner, whilst the installation material is firmly and reliably installed in the wall cavity.
- the ribs are (preferably elastically) deformed in such a manner that a clamped fit between the plug and the inner cavity wall is already realised.
- the pin which is for example provided with a screw thread
- the ribs will deform even further and engage the material surrounding the pre-drilled hole even more firmly.
- the wall tie i.e. the plug and the pin turned into said plug, is thus capable of withstanding practically any force attempting to drive it out.
- the ribs may be fitted with barbs or other means that provide an improved grip in the material surrounding the pre-drilled hole.
- the plug is provided with a radially outwardly oriented edge near one end thereof.
- Said upright edge functions to prevent the insulation material from being moved off the plug body and is collar-shaped.
- a separate ring is moved over the plug body, into abutment with the edge thereof, so as to minimise the risk of the insulation material being displaced with respect to the body.

- the present wall ties 1 are thus anchored between the inner and outer cavity walls 6, 9 in a simple and easy manner, whilst the insulation material 7 is firmly and reliably installed in the wall cavity 10.
- the body 3 is provided with radially outwardly extending ribs 11 along part of its length, which ribs deform in the holes 8.
- the body 3 is further provided with a radially outwardly oriented collar 12 near an end remote from the inner cavity wall 6. Said collar 12 functions to prevent insulation material 7 from being moved off the body 3.

Description
- The invention relates to a wall tie having a supporting function for an insulation material to be installed in a wall cavity.
- Such a wall tie is known, for example from Dutch patent No.
160, 901 - The object of the invention is to obviate the drawbacks of the prior art, that is, to propose a wall tie which can be anchored between the inner and outer cavity walls in a safe, simple and/or easy manner and which is capable of optimally supporting in particular comparatively hard insulation materials in the wall cavity.
- In order to accomplish that object, a wall tie of the kind referred to in the introduction is disclosed by claim 1.
- It is noted that within the invention a longitudinal, central bore is formed by a longitudinal central recess or groove in the plug body. After the inner cavity wall has been erected, the insulation material, which is for example plate-shaped and comparatively hard, is placed and positioned on the inner cavity wall. Following that, several boreholes are formed in the insulation material and in the inner cavity wall for accommodating the plugs. The insulation material is then fixed in position by inserting the plugs through the insulation material and into the boreholes in the inner cavity wall. Before the outer cavity wall is erected, the pins are inserted into the respective longitudinal bores in the plugs. The pins are thus anchored in the outer cavity wall near their ends remote from the inner cavity wall. Thus, the present wall ties are anchored between the inner and outer cavity walls in a simple and easy manner, whilst the installation material is firmly and reliably installed in the wall cavity.
- When the plug is pressed into a pre-drilled a hole in the inner cavity wall, for example, the ribs are (preferably elastically) deformed in such a manner that a clamped fit between the plug and the inner cavity wall is already realised. When subsequently the pin, which is for example provided with a screw thread, is turned or driven into the central bore of the plug, the ribs will deform even further and engage the material surrounding the pre-drilled hole even more firmly. The wall tie, i.e. the plug and the pin turned into said plug, is thus capable of withstanding practically any force attempting to drive it out. The ribs may be fitted with barbs or other means that provide an improved grip in the material surrounding the pre-drilled hole.
- According to the invention, the plug is provided with a radially outwardly oriented edge near one end thereof. Said upright edge functions to prevent the insulation material from being moved off the plug body and is collar-shaped. Preferably, a separate ring is moved over the plug body, into abutment with the edge thereof, so as to minimise the risk of the insulation material being displaced with respect to the body.
- According to the invention, the body narrows towards an insertion end of the plug. This facilitates the installation of the plug, for example in a pre-drilled hole in the inner cavity wall.
- According to the invention, at least some of the ribs have a diameter larger than that of a bore in the inner cavity wall. As a result, the ribs can be securely fitted in the boreholes in the inner cavity wall under deformation, for example by means of a few light hammer strokes, whilst any tolerances in the borehole dimensions can be readily compensated by said deformation.
- In another preferred embodiment of a wall tie according to the invention, the plug is at least substantially made of plastic material. The pin is preferably at least substantially made of a metal.
- According to the invention, the pin has a diameter larger than or equal to that of the bore in a part of the plug body that faces the insertion end.
- The invention will now be explained in more detail with reference to figures illustrated in a drawing, in which
-
Figures 1 and2 are schematic, perspective views of a wall tie according to the invention, in which parts are shown in assembled condition (figure 1 ) and in mutually detached condition (figure 2 ); -
Figure 3 is a schematic, perspective view of the wall tie offigure 1 in (partially) installed condition; and -
Figures 4 and 5 are schematic, cross-sectional views of the wall tie offigure 1 in (partially) installed condition. - As
figures 1 and2 show, the wall tie 1 is made up of at least two separate parts, viz. aplastic plug 2 to be inserted through the insulation material and into an inner cavity wall, which plug comprises a pin-shapedbody 3 having a longitudinal, central bore, recess orgroove 4 in the (elastically) deformable part of theplug 2, as well as asteel pin 5 to be anchored in an outer cavity wall, which pin can be inserted into thebore 4 in thebody 3 of theplug 2. - Referring now to
figures 3 ,4, 5 , first the brickinner cavity wall 6 is built. Then panels ofinsulation material 7 are installed on theinner cavity wall 6 andholes 8 are drilled through the panels ofinsulation material 7 and into theinner cavity wall 6. The panels ofinsulation material 7 are then fixed to theinner cavity wall 6 by insertingseveral plugs 2 through theinsulation material 7 and into theholes 8 in theinner cavity wall 6. Before the brickouter cavity wall 9 is built, several pins 5 are first turned or driven into the corresponding bores 4. Thepins 5 are to that end provided with screw thread. Finally, the brickouter cavity wall 9 is built, with thepins 5 being anchored in theouter cavity wall 9 near their ends remote from theinner cavity wall 6. The present wall ties 1 are thus anchored between the inner andouter cavity walls insulation material 7 is firmly and reliably installed in thewall cavity 10. - With reference to
figures 1 and2 , thebody 3 is provided with radially outwardly extendingribs 11 along part of its length, which ribs deform in theholes 8. Thebody 3 is further provided with a radially outwardly orientedcollar 12 near an end remote from theinner cavity wall 6. Saidcollar 12 functions to preventinsulation material 7 from being moved off thebody 3. Aseparate ring 13 may be moved over thebody 3, into abutment with thecollar 12, so as to prevent theinsulation material 7 from being displaced with respect to thebody 3. - In conclusion it is noted that the
pin 5 has a diameter smaller than or equal to the (projected) diameter of the bore, recess orgroove 4 in the first part of theplug 2 facing thecollar 12, which was designed not to deform (elastically), and that thepin 5 has a diameter larger than or equal to the diameter of the bore, recess or groove in the second part of theplug 2 facing the insertion end, which was designed to deform (elastically). The invention is not limited to the illustrated embodiment, but it also covers other variants falling within the scope of the appended claims.
