Description
- The present invention relates to a fireproof door the purpose of which is to separate one room from the next one and to stand a particular minimal temperature for a certain period of time whereas the shape and measurements of the door remain unchanged.
- Fireproof doors are designed to close the door opening reliably and tightly in case of fire and to prevent fire and smoke to extent to another living compartments by limiting the air supply into the room possessed by fire. Special requirements are determined subject to the use of the door: the door should be in conformance with special class of resistance to fire, which should secure a reliable barrier against fire for a certain period of time. Commonly fireproof doors used in commercial and dwelling-houses consist of rectangular metal frame coated with laminated metal plates with thermo and sound insulation installed in between. The design of such door is described in document
US2003/033786 . - The basic and substantial drawback of such fireproof door is that under the influence of high temperature the door leaf is deformed. It is related to the phenomenon that the metal sheet of the door leaf being heated expands, whereas the opposite side of the door leaf, which is not affected by fire, does not change its measurements. Therefore the door leaf warps forming a gap across the middle of the door leaf (in case the door of the room occupied by fire swings inward) or at the top and bottom of the door leaf (in case the door swings outward). Thus the door looses its hermetic characteristics and opens the way for the air supply to the room possessed by fire as well as for heat, smoke and fire expansion to the adjacent rooms.
- The present invention relates to a fireproof door, resistant to thermo and mechanical deformations. Otherwise than a standard fireproof door consisting of a perimetric frame and two peripheral metal sheets with thermo-insulation in between, the door of the present invention consists of a single metal sheet installed within a perimetric door frame. Additionally, the door is reinforced by a lattice construction consisting of plurality of rectangular tray-shaped profiles arranged horizontally and gradually over each other and fixed symmetrically to a metal sheet from both sides thereof, the profiles being linked up by several vertical metal ribbons which are connected to upper and lower door frame rails and to each tray-shaped profile. The chambers formed on both sides of the sheet by the sheet itself, trays and ribbons are packed with a thermo-insulating material.
- The whole door construction is covered from both sides with any chosen decorative cover fixed to the door frame.
- It was unexpectedly discovered that such simple at first glance door construction containing a single metal sheet arranged within a door frame demonstrates rather high resistance to temperature deformation. It is due to, that in the door of such construction fire flames coming from any side of the door first encounter with a protective thermo-insulating layer which protects constructional metal sheet being beyond the insulation from excessive heating and, hence, from temperature deformation. The testing results show, that the door of such cosntruction fully performs the barrier functions, when ordinary fireproof door was already loosing its hermetic characteristics. Additionally, extra installed lattice construction provides the door with special mechanical strength and makes the door hardly deformable.
- Further the invention will be described in detail with reference to the drawings, wherein:
-
Fig.1 is a front view of the door construction without decorative cover; -
Fig.2 is a perspective view of the door construction with a truncated door angle, disclosing a lattice construction of the door in more detail; -
Fig.3 is a perspective view of the door of the present invention packed with thermo-insulation. - As seen in
fig.1 andfig.2 thedoor 1 consists of arectangular frame 2 surrounding arectangular metal sheet 3 installed within and in the middle of theframe 2. In general case themetal sheet 3 is welded peripherally to aframe 2. - Additionally the
door 1 is reinforced from both sides of asheet 3 by a lattice construction consisting of plurality of rectangular tray-shaped profiles 4 installed horizontally and gradually over each other and welded symmetrically by their lateral surfaces to both sides of ametal sheet 3.Profiles 4 with their opposite lateral surfaces are connected tovertical metal ribbons 5, which are in turn connected to upper andlower rails door frame 2. Such lattice construction makes thedoor 1 extremely rigid and highly resistant to mechanical deformation. - Internal chambers formed on both sides of a
sheet 3 by asheet 3,profiles 4 andribbons 5 are packed with an appropriate thermo-insulating material, for example rock wool 6, as shown infig.3 . Finally, an aesthetic exterior view of the door could be formed using decorative panels of any material fixed to both sides of a frame 2 (not shown in the drawings). As it was mentioned above thedoor 1 of such construction characterizes by extremely high resistance both to mechanical and thermo deformation. Since both sides of thedoor sheet 3 are covered with protective thermo-insulating layer 6, the sheet remains geometrically unchanged for a time period sufficient to either quench the fire inside the room or the fire source to burn out. The testing results showed that under the same temperature conditions the door of the present invention remained in practice unwarped, whereas the common double-sheet fireproof door with internal thermo-insulation had warped and opened the way for flame and smoke. - The fireproof door of the present invention could be manufactured either using a
continuous metal sheet 3 orseparate segments frame 2 and interconnected by adjacent relative edges by welding to rectangular tray-shaped profiles 4. Such construction of the door allows to considerably reduce the manufacturing costs without changing in practice its fire protection and mechanical characteristics.
