Definitions
- the present invention relates to an improved ball game racket, in particular a tennis, squash, racquetball, badminton or paddle tennis racket.
- Such clubs usually have a frame with a head portion and a club shaft. At the end of the club shaft is usually provided a handle portion for holding the racket. Depending on the use, the club head may be solid or suitable for receiving a clothing.
- the choice of material for the racquet frame is crucial.
- the geometry of the racket or of the racket frame is of enormous importance, since with the help of these targeted influence on the bending and torsion properties of the racket can be taken.
- the present invention provides a ball game racket, in particular a tennis, squash, racquetball, badminton or paddle tennis racket, having a club head and a club shaft, the club shaft having a substantially cross-sectional profile curved about its entire circumference, in which a plurality in the longitudinal direction the club shaft extending indentations are provided.
- the curved cross-sectional profile is to be understood such that the club shaft without the indentations has a cross-sectional profile curved over its entire circumference, e.g. oval or circular.
- a plurality of indentations extending in the longitudinal direction of the club shaft are formed.
- Particularly preferred are circular or oval cross-sectional profiles of the club shaft. But it is also conceivable curved cross-sectional profiles, which differ from a circular or oval cross-sectional profile.
- the club shaft has two arms and the indentations extending in the longitudinal direction of the club shaft extend around the curved cross-sectional profile of the two arms.
- said properties of the stem are to be understood as referring either to a one-piece stem or to the two arms of a two-piece stem.
- the said preferred circular or oval cross-sectional profiles of the club shaft in the case of a two-part shaft are to be understood so that the two arms of the shaft preferably have a circular or oval cross-sectional profile.
- a club shaft is considered with circular or oval cross-sectional profile in which a plurality of extending in the longitudinal direction of the club shaft indentations are provided, since such a club shaft has a relatively high bending stability or flexural rigidity with simultaneous torsional softness.
- a Torsionsflexzone is created in the club shaft, so that no or only insignificant torsional deformations occur in the clubface.
- a soft area is provided in the racket shaft, in which torsional stresses can be selectively reduced, avoiding that the striking surface is affected by torsional deformations.
- the bending stiffness of the club shaft is sufficiently large, so that a high momentum transfer can be achieved on the club head and a sufficient resistance to breakage is provided.
- the oval cross-sectional profile is preferably arranged such that the longer axis of the oval is substantially perpendicular to a clothing plane of the shuttle and the shorter axis of the oval is substantially in or parallel to one direction the clothing plane of the racket runs.
- the ratio of the longer axis of the oval to the shorter axis of the oval is preferably in the range between 1 and 2.5, preferably between 1.1 and 2 and particularly preferably between 1.2 and 1.5. Too large ratios between the long axis and the short axis can have a negative effect on the bending stiffness, so that generally oval cross-sectional profiles are preferred that do not deviate too much from a circular cross-sectional profile.
- the recesses are provided around the circumference of the club shaft substantially equally spaced from each other. Alternatively, however, an uneven or asymmetrical arrangement of the recesses may be provided around the circumference of the club shaft.
- the racket shaft of the example racket according to the invention has at least four indentations on the racket shaft. It is particularly preferred to provide at least six indentations, and most preferably, at least eight indentations on the club shaft. While an even number of indentations may be advantageous for reasons of symmetry, an odd number of indentations (eg, at least five indentations) nonetheless fall within the scope of the present invention.
- all indentations are formed substantially the same. Alternatively, however, several indentations may differ from each other. For example, indentations of different lengths or different depths can be provided. Alternatively or additionally, the different indentations may have a different cross section. It indentations are preferred, which are formed in the cross-sectional direction substantially U-shaped or semicircular. However, it is also possible for some or all indentations to have a different shape and, for example, to be V-shaped.
- each indentation may be constant along the length of the indentation or vary over the length. It is particularly preferred that at least some of the recesses have transition sections in which the indentations are gradually deeper from the otherwise substantially circumferentially curved cross-sectional profile. These transition sections are preferably provided on a striker head-side section of the shaft and / or on a grip-side section of the shaft. In the transition sections, the profile preferably increases or decreases in depth, either continuously or continuously.
- the indentations are formed substantially only in an area between the club head and the grip portion. Alternatively, however, some or all indentations can extend into the grip section and / or pass into an area of the club head.
- the recesses preferably have a length of 60 mm to 150 mm, more preferably from 80 mm to 120 mm, and / or a width of 2 mm to 8 mm, particularly preferably from 3 mm to 6 mm, and / or a depth of 0 , 5 mm to 5 mm, more preferably from 1 mm to 3 mm.
- FIG. 1 shows a front view of a ball game racket according to the invention in the form of a squash racket 1 with a club head 2 and a club shaft 3, which has a handle portion 4 and a arranged between club head 2 and handle portion 4 section 5.
- a plurality of recesses 6 extending in the longitudinal direction of the club shaft 3 are shown.
- the recesses 6 are formed substantially equal and arranged uniformly spaced from each other around the circumference of the club shaft.
- the club shaft 3 of the squash racket according to the invention opposite transition portions 7a and 7b, in which the indentation in each case gradually from the otherwise substantially curved around the entire circumference cross-sectional profile.
- FIG. 5 The cross-sectional profile of the in the FIGS. 1 to 4 shown racket is in FIG. 5 to see schematically.
- the cross-sectional profile of the club shaft 5 of a racket according to the invention is compared with the oval cross-sectional profile of a racket shaft 5a of a conventional racket. How out FIG. 5 becomes apparent, corresponds to the Heavy line of the cross section of a club shaft according to the invention essentially an oval.
- the cross-sectional profile of the club shaft 5 according to the invention can be understood such that additional indentations 6 are formed in a substantially oval cross-sectional profile. Only in these recesses 6, the cross-sectional profile deviates from an oval cross-sectional profile.
- FIG. 5 profile shown is merely exemplary understood.
- the cross-sectional profile without indentations may be generally curved, so it must not be oval or circular.
- the recesses 6 formed therein can be formed, for example, wider or deeper than in FIG. 5 is shown. Alternatively, a different number of recesses is conceivable.
- the shape of the indentations in FIG. 6 may be formed relatively flat, may be clearly U-shaped or semicircular. Even if curved indentations are preferred, an example V-shaped shape of the indentations is also possible.
- a racket shaft with a substantially curved over its entire circumference cross-sectional profile, in which a plurality of extending in the longitudinal direction of the racket shaft recesses are provided, proves to be particularly advantageous.
- FIG. 6c illustrated cross-sectional profile, which is used in a known Prince bat (Prince Air Drive 140) compared.
- the boundary conditions were set so that the club shaft could oscillate freely at both ends.
- the normal modes were calculated for the first bending vibration (that is, in the racket plane), for the second bending vibration (that is, perpendicular to the racket plane), and for the first torsional vibration.
- the natural frequencies of the corresponding normal modes for the three shaft geometries are shown in the following table: shaft geometry Dimensions 1. bending mode (in racket level) 2. Bending mode (perpendicular to the racket plane) 1.Torsionsmode Conventional shaft ( Fig.
- the natural frequency of the first torsional vibration in the case of a club shaft according to the invention is about 30% lower than a shaft with an oval cross-section.
- the club stock according to the invention is significantly torsion-softer than a conventional club stock.
- the natural frequency of the first bending vibration is only slightly lower and that of the second bending vibration is even higher than the corresponding natural frequencies of a conventional club shaft with an oval cross-section.
- a racket with a racket shaft according to the invention is substantially as stable with respect to bends as a conventional racket.
- the second bending vibration which is essential for momentum transfer, a club according to the invention surprisingly behaves stiffer than a conventional club.
- the Prince bat with his in FIG. 6c Although also shown deviating from an oval cross-sectional profile also has a significantly reduced Torsionseigenfrequenz of 5003 Hz, but has the disadvantage that at the same time the natural frequencies of the first and second bending vibration are also drastically reduced. Accordingly, the well-known Prince bat is indeed very torsionally soft, but at the same time also flexible soft what can be detrimental. In particular, in the plane perpendicular to the racket plane, the shaft of the Prince racket is about 20% more flexible than the bow shaft according to the invention. As a result, the momentum transfer from the club head to the ball upon impact of the ball on the club head is significantly affected because the club head mitigated during impact due to bending softness and thus a part of the impact force is consumed for deformation of the racket.
- a racket with a club shaft according to the invention has the extraordinary property of having on the one hand a shaft with a torticeflex zone, on the other hand the shaft being essentially at least as flexurally stable as a conventional racket.
- This combination was described by test players, especially squash players, as particularly pleasant. This can probably be explained by the fact that the provision of a Torsionsflexzone in the racket shaft is avoided that the club head and thus the striking surface significantly curved or distorted. This allows improved ball control and thus generally better playability of the racket according to the invention.
- FIG. 9 a tennis racket 1 according to the invention is depicted according to a further preferred embodiment.
- the racket 1 has a club head 2 and a handle portion 4, which is connected via two arms 8 with the club head 2. That is, the one-piece shaft portion 5 of the club shaft 3 of the embodiment of FIGS. 1 to 4 is in the embodiment of FIG. 9 replaced by a two-part shaft with two arms 8.
- the racket 1 on both arms 8 in the longitudinal direction of the club shaft extending indentations 6. These extend in this embodiment around the entire circumference of both arms 8.
- the cross-sectional profile of the arms 8 corresponds to, for example, the in FIG. 5 shown cross-sectional profile of the one-piece club shaft.
- the two arms 8 can each have some or all of the characteristics of the one-piece shaft of the embodiment described above.
- opposite transition sections are provided, in which the indentation in each case gradually from the otherwise substantially curved around the entire circumference profile profile gradually.
Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to an improved ball game racket, in particular a tennis, squash, racquetball, badminton or paddle tennis racket. Such clubs usually have a frame with a head portion and a club shaft. At the end of the club shaft is usually provided a handle portion for holding the racket. Depending on the use, the club head may be solid or suitable for receiving a clothing.
The mechanical requirements that such a racket frame must be able to cope with are manifold. For example, the club head must withstand the force resulting from the clothing and the club shaft must be able to transfer the striking power applied by the player from the grip area to the head area. On the one hand, a certain stability is required in order to ensure resistance to breakage, and on the other hand, it must be ensured that certain bending and torsion properties are provided in order to enable controlled, powerful and, at the same time, joint-gentle play. Among other things, the vibration behavior of the racquet itself is important, i. its natural frequency, damping properties, etc. Furthermore, such a racket should be as light as possible and at the same time provide the prerequisites for the highest possible transfer of momentum to the ball.
In order to meet as many of the mentioned requirements, on the one hand, the choice of material for the racquet frame is crucial. Thus, for example, with carbon fiber-reinforced clubs at a relatively low weight, a great stability can be achieved. On the other hand, the geometry of the racket or of the racket frame is of enormous importance, since with the help of these targeted influence on the bending and torsion properties of the racket can be taken.
However, the problem of bending and torsion properties is extremely complex and requires, depending on the application, that is, depending on the player and the ball game, in some ways optimized conditions. Therefore, there continues to be a need for optimized racquets for ball games, in particular tennis, squash, racquetball, badminton or paddle tennis racquets, which have improved racquet performance, play better and more controlled, are less prone to breakage and are targeted to the game Needs of the player are tailored.
This object is achieved with a ball game racket with the features of the independent claims. In the dependent claims preferred embodiments of the example racket invention are described.
The present invention provides a ball game racket, in particular a tennis, squash, racquetball, badminton or paddle tennis racket, having a club head and a club shaft, the club shaft having a substantially cross-sectional profile curved about its entire circumference, in which a plurality in the longitudinal direction the club shaft extending indentations are provided. In this case, the curved cross-sectional profile is to be understood such that the club shaft without the indentations has a cross-sectional profile curved over its entire circumference, e.g. oval or circular. In this curved cross-sectional profile, in addition to the inherent curvature, a plurality of indentations extending in the longitudinal direction of the club shaft are formed. Particularly preferred are circular or oval cross-sectional profiles of the club shaft. But it is also conceivable curved cross-sectional profiles, which differ from a circular or oval cross-sectional profile.
According to a preferred embodiment, the club shaft has two arms and the indentations extending in the longitudinal direction of the club shaft extend around the curved cross-sectional profile of the two arms. Throughout the application, said properties of the stem are to be understood as referring either to a one-piece stem or to the two arms of a two-piece stem. Thus, for example, the said preferred circular or oval cross-sectional profiles of the club shaft in the case of a two-part shaft are to be understood so that the two arms of the shaft preferably have a circular or oval cross-sectional profile.
As a particularly preferred a club shaft is considered with circular or oval cross-sectional profile in which a plurality of extending in the longitudinal direction of the club shaft indentations are provided, since such a club shaft has a relatively high bending stability or flexural rigidity with simultaneous torsional softness. As a result, a Torsionsflexzone is created in the club shaft, so that no or only insignificant torsional deformations occur in the clubface. Accordingly, a soft area is provided in the racket shaft, in which torsional stresses can be selectively reduced, avoiding that the striking surface is affected by torsional deformations. At the same time, however, the bending stiffness of the club shaft is sufficiently large, so that a high momentum transfer can be achieved on the club head and a sufficient resistance to breakage is provided.
If the club shaft has a substantially oval cross-sectional profile, the oval cross-sectional profile is preferably arranged such that the longer axis of the oval is substantially perpendicular to a clothing plane of the shuttle and the shorter axis of the oval is substantially in or parallel to one direction the clothing plane of the racket runs. The ratio of the longer axis of the oval to the shorter axis of the oval is preferably in the range between 1 and 2.5, preferably between 1.1 and 2 and particularly preferably between 1.2 and 1.5. Too large ratios between the long axis and the short axis can have a negative effect on the bending stiffness, so that generally oval cross-sectional profiles are preferred that do not deviate too much from a circular cross-sectional profile.
It is particularly preferred that the recesses are provided around the circumference of the club shaft substantially equally spaced from each other. Alternatively, however, an uneven or asymmetrical arrangement of the recesses may be provided around the circumference of the club shaft. According to a preferred embodiment, the racket shaft of the example racket according to the invention has at least four indentations on the racket shaft. It is particularly preferred to provide at least six indentations, and most preferably, at least eight indentations on the club shaft. While an even number of indentations may be advantageous for reasons of symmetry, an odd number of indentations (eg, at least five indentations) nonetheless fall within the scope of the present invention.
In a preferred embodiment, all indentations are formed substantially the same.
The cross-sectional profile of each indentation may be constant along the length of the indentation or vary over the length.
It is preferred that the indentations are formed substantially only in an area between the club head and the grip portion. Alternatively, however, some or all indentations can extend into the grip section and / or pass into an area of the club head. The recesses preferably have a length of 60 mm to 150 mm, more preferably from 80 mm to 120 mm, and / or a width of 2 mm to 8 mm, particularly preferably from 3 mm to 6 mm, and / or a depth of 0 , 5 mm to 5 mm, more preferably from 1 mm to 3 mm.

As is apparent from the above table, the natural frequency of the first torsional vibration in the case of a club shaft according to the invention is about 30% lower than a shaft with an oval cross-section. This means that the club stock according to the invention is significantly torsion-softer than a conventional club stock. At the same time, the natural frequency of the first bending vibration is only slightly lower and that of the second bending vibration is even higher than the corresponding natural frequencies of a conventional club shaft with an oval cross-section. In other words, a racket with a racket shaft according to the invention is substantially as stable with respect to bends as a conventional racket. With respect to the second bending vibration, which is essential for momentum transfer, a club according to the invention surprisingly behaves stiffer than a conventional club.
In summary, it can be said that a racket with a club shaft according to the invention has the extraordinary property of having on the one hand a shaft with a torticeflex zone, on the other hand the shaft being essentially at least as flexurally stable as a conventional racket. This combination was described by test players, especially squash players, as particularly pleasant. This can probably be explained by the fact that the provision of a Torsionsflexzone in the racket shaft is avoided that the club head and thus the striking surface significantly curved or distorted. This allows improved ball control and thus generally better playability of the racket according to the invention.

As already stated, the two
Although the present invention in the preferred embodiments in In connection with a squash or tennis racket has been described, it is understood that the indentations according to the invention can be applied in an analogous manner to other racquet types, for example, paddle tennis, badminton or Racquetballschlägem.
