Abstract

An ergonomic bathtub comprises a specially shaped back- support portion and a variably shaped surface of the side and bottom portions, wherein one shorter sidewall comprises a convex portion constituting a support for the lumbar region (1), which at the bottom passes into a hollow portion, designed to accommodate the pelvis (2) and situated below the bottom level of the tub (3), and the longer sidewalls comprise hollow portions to accommodate the feet (4, 5).

Description

  • The subject of the invention is an ergonomic bathtub that facilitates retaining correct spinal curvature and proper pelvis position (as well as facilitates rest and relax during taking a bath).
  • Therefore, the invention relates to the sphere of preventive treatment of spinal diseases. The modern man, spending long hours daily in the sitting position, runs a risk of having problems with the musculoskeletal system, especially with the spine. It is believed that it is the sitting position which is responsible for pandemic dimension of spinal diseases.
  • A bathtub is a place where men wash themselves, rest and relax, mostly in the sitting position, frequently spending a lot of time there. The traditional half-sitting position in the bathtub is detrimental and strenuous for the user's spine, because it forces large bends in the hip joints, which fosters an incorrect pelvis position and, by the same, makes the physiological lumbar lordosis shallower.
  • Bathtubs produced to date have been provided with various shapes of both the tub itself and the places where relaxing nozzles influencing the user's body are mounted.
  • The prior art knows specially shaped bathtubs of the company SANPLAST, which comprise specially shaped elbowrests that facilitate standing up inside the tub, and nozzles seated in the sidewalls and in the bottom surface of the tub. Examples of such solutions are also disclosed in patent descriptions US 20020289910 and US 20000544268 .
  • Document US 4 466 141 A discloses in figure 5 a bathtub having a back-support section reflection the anatomic shape of a human spine. This document is the closest prior art and shows the preamble of the independent claim.
  • The application WO 98/33423 describes a multi-purpose bathtub. Said bathtub comprises a specially shaped sitting surface raised above the bottom surface of the tub and it also comprises specially shaped foot supports facilitating a comfortable position for the feet.
  • The European application EP 1 279 360 also discloses a bathtub solution comprising a specially shaped bottom surface and functionally shaped sidewalls. The bathtub shown there comprises at one end a section, which is convexly shaped with respect to the vertical plane, designed to provide support to the user's back, and at the other end it comprises a rising bottom surface that provides support to the user's feet, thus allowing an ergonomic position of the pelvis.
  • Moreover, the French document FR 1593588 discloses a bathtub having a sloping wall with convex and concave sections to accommodate the back and support the neck of the lying user. In this solution, the opposite wall comprises projections that constitute the support for the user's feet.
  • Another French document FR 2702645 discloses an adaptable bathtub constituting a basin, which comprises in the side walls, directly opposite the head walls that form a protrusion towards the inside, supports on which the user should naturally place their feet when their legs are stretched along the bottom of the basin. These supports formed in the side walls of the basin on the protrusion are symmetrical to the middle plane of the basin. Each head wall is connected with two identical supports designed on each of the sidewalls at the same distance from the head wall. The supports designed in the side walls extend to these walls to the distance of maximum half, preferably close to one third of the height of the walls.
  • Moreover, the document DE 3703276 discloses a bathtub with a variable bottom surface comprising a part for washing in the standing position and a part for lying down, which are separated by an elevation constituting a stool.
  • The subject solution is based on the obtaining during a bath of the generally known and scientifically recognisable anatomic pattern of physiological spinal curvatures by means of proper positioning of the pelvis in a special hollow portion below the bottom level of the bathtub. Said hollow merges with the support for the spine and the pelvis. In order to stabilise the pelvis in the hollow portion there are provided two hollow portions in the side walls of the bathtub for the feet.
  • The support for the lumbar region reaches the end of the sacrum and provides support not only for the lumbar region but also for the sacrum and the pelvis, which conditions proper, anatomical spinal curvature. Simultaneously, said hollow portion meets the support at a point in such a manner that it prevents harmful backward rotation of the pelvis, which is the major reason for the occurrence of L5 S1 disc herniation.
  • The invention applied for makes it possible to obtain proper pelvis position during taking a bath.
  • According to the invention, an ergonomic bathtub has a specially shaped back-support portion, sides and a base of the bathtub. One shorter sidewall comprises the back-support section having a convex portion constituting a support for the lumbar region, which at the bottom passes into a hollow portion designed to accommodate the pelvis and situated below the bottom level of the tub, and the longer sidewalls comprise hollow portions to accommodate the feet.
  • The subject solution is based on the obtaining during a bath of the generally known and scientifically recognisable anatomic pattern of physiological spinal curvatures by means of proper positioning of the pelvis in a special hollow portion below the bottom level of the bathtub. Said hollow portion meets in an innovative manner at point the support for the spine and the pelvis. In order to stabilise the pelvis in the hollow portion there are provided two hollows portions in the side walls of the bathtub.
  • Novelty and non-obviousness of the solution lies in that the portion supporting the lumbar region comprises a recess relieving the spinous processes.
  • Along the recess relieving the spinous processes, on both sides of it and below it, there is placed a set of nozzles, preferably comprising nine or more nozzles.
  • Moreover, the support for the lumbar region is lengthened to also constitute a support for the thoraco-cervical and cervical regions.
  • According to an embodiment, the bathtub comprises in its hollow portion curved toward the ground section for the pelvis an additional recess to accommodate the ischial tuberosities.
  • In its most preferable embodiment, the hollow portion for the pelvis is lined with a resilient, waterproof material, possibly silicone or other resilient materials.
  • The hollow portions for the feet placed on the sidewalls of the tub are preferably placed at a distance of 70 to 90 cm from the point of connection of the lumbar region support with the hollow portion for the pelvis in the bottom of the tub.
  • In a preferable embodiment the bathtub comprises on its bottom surface small convex anti-slip points.
  • The ergonomic bathtub facilitates retaining correct spinal curvature and a proper pelvis position. The ergonomic bathtub comprises a support for the lumbar region, and a hollow portion curved toward the ground section in the bottom of the tub coexisting with the support for the lumbar region, due to its shape facilitating a correct pelvis position and relieving tender ischial tuberosities. The hollow portions on the sidewalls serve as the supporting points for the right and/or left foot. The foot support closes the muscle chain, which facilitates stabilisation of the pelvis and, therefore, proper position of the spine.
  • The bathtub is used in household conditions as well as in balneology to treat spine problems and other diseases. Proper position of the pelvis and the spine prevents spine troubles and provides conditions to treat them.
  • The subject of the invention in a preferable embodiment is shown in the drawing, in which fig. 1 presents a lateral cross-section of the ergonomic bathtub along the longer sidewall, fig. 2 - a top view of the ergonomic bathtub, and fig. 3 - a lateral cross-section of the ergonomic bathtub along the shorter sidewall.
  • The ergonomic bathtub in a preferable embodiment comprises a specially shaped back-support section, sides and a base of the bathtub, wherein the back-support section is on one shorter sidewall and comprises a convex shape toward the inside of the bathtub section (8) constituting a support for the lumbar region (1), at the bottom merging into a hollow portion designed to accommodate the pelvis (2) situated below the bottom level of the tub (3), and the longer sidewalls of the tub comprise hollow portions to accommodate the feet (4, 5).
  • The support for the lumbar region (1) comprises a recess (6) relieving the spinous processes. Along the recess (6) relieving the spinous processes, on both sides of it and below it, there is placed a set of nozzles (7), preferably comprising at least nine nozzles. The support for the lumbar region (1) is lengthened to include a support (8) for the cervical (11) section curved slightly toward the back of the bathtub.
  • The bathtub comprises in the hollow portion for the pelvis an additional recess (9) to accommodate the ischial tuberosities. The hollow portions to accommodate the feet (4, 5) are placed in the sidewalls at a distance of 70 to 90 cm from the point of connection (10) cf the lumbar region support with the hollow portion for the pelvis situated below the bottom level of the tub.
  • In the most preferable embodiment, the hollow portion for the pelvis is lined with a resilient, waterproof material, possibly silicone or other resilient material.

Claims (6)

  1. An ergonomic bathtub having a specially shaped back-support section (1, 8, 11) reflecting the anatomical shape of a human spine, sides (12) and a base of the bathtub (13), the back-support section (1, 8, 11) being on one shorter sidewall comprising a convex portion as support for the lumbar region, the portion for the lumbar region being extended to further support the thoraco-cervical and cervical regions, the inner surface of the bathtub providing supports for the feet, and the convex portion supporting the lumbar region (1) merging into a hollow portion situated below the base of the bathtub (3), designed to accommodate the pelvis (2),
    characterized in that the portion supporting the lumbar region (1) comprises a recess (6) relieving the spinous processes and the longer sidewalls of the bathtub comprise hollow portions for the feet (4, 5).
  2. An ergonomic bathtub according to claim 1, characterized in that the hollow portion for the pelvis (2) comprises an additional recess (9) to accommodate the ischial tuberosities.
  3. An ergonomic bathtub according to claim 1, characterized in that the hollow portion for the pelvis (2) is lined with a resilient, waterproof material, preferably silicone.
  4. An ergonomic bathtub according to claim 1, characterized in that along the recess (6) relieving the spinous processes, on both sides of it and below it, there is placed a set of nozzles (7).
  5. An ergonomic bathtub according to claim 4, characterized in that the set of nozzles (7) comprises at least nine nozzles.
  6. An ergonomic bathtub according to claim 1, characterized in that the hollow section s for the feet (4, 5) are placed at a distance of 70 to 90 cm from the point of connection (10) of the lumbar region support with the hollow portion for pelvis situated below the bottom level of the tub.
