Description
- The present invention relates to a support for planar objects, such as compact discs, formed from a laminar template, such as a template made of cardboard or the like, which can adopt a folded position in order to be used as a case containing and protecting the planar object, and an unfolded position in order to be used as a display support for said planar object.
- Planar objects, for example compact discs or the like, are displayed by means of supports with a generally rigid constitution, which are large, have a relatively high cost and the sole function of which is that of being used as a display means.
- When planar objects can deteriorate through contact with other objects and even with the hand, as occurs with compact discs, it is necessary to arrange them in protective cases which are not used as display means.
- In other words these types of planar objects are displayed and protected by means of different devices.
- The object of the present invention is a support for planar objects formed such that it fulfills a dual function. On one hand it is used as a protective container for the planar object, which is the typical function of any case, and on the other hand it can be used as a display support, a function in which the planar object is in a vertical position, virtually completely exposed, such that it is perfectly visible to possible purchasers or users, further being easily removable from the case in this exposed position without any effort. Another aspect of the invention relates to a case comprising several support-display mechanisms therein.
- According to the invention, the support is formed by a laminar part, made of cardboard or the like, which part has two cutting lines perpendicular to one another, crossing at their central point and having different length. The laminar part further has a transverse fold line coinciding with the shorter cutting line, this fold line running between opposite edges of the laminar part. The longer cutting line defines the diagonal of a square which is formed by means of peripheral fold lines, said square being inscribed in the laminar part. The shorter cutting line is extended at both ends by means of inner fold lines reaching the adjacent vertices of the previously mentioned square. The cutting lines and inner and peripheral fold lines determine four central portions which are linked to one another two by two through the inner fold lines. These portions are progressively folded towards the inside upon folding the laminar part on the fold line coinciding with the longer cutting line.
- The ends of the shorter cutting line and the inner fold lines extending with said cutting lines are separated by an intermediate window.
- There can be a rhomboidal shaped window partially penetrating the square demarcated by the peripheral fold lines between the outer end of the inner fold lines and the adjacent end of the transverse fold line of the laminar part.
- The perpendicular cutting lines can be defined by grooves with increasing width from the outer end towards the cross point of the two grooves.
- The laminar part can take on any configuration, being able to consist of a template with a rectangular contour defining a protective cover upon being folded on the transverse fold line.
- The laminar part can also consist of a template with a square contour, which is folded according to a central line perpendicular to two of its opposite edges in order to determine two rectangular halves placed against one another, an inner half and another outer half, which in turn are folded in the same direction according to the central transverse line of the two halves in order to determine four identical quarters which can be placed against one another, two quarters in the outer half and two quarters in the inner half. The inner half has the previously mentioned cutting lines and fold lines from the central point and in coincidence with its axes, the longer cutting line coinciding with the longitudinal axis of the inner half of the template and having a length equal to or less than the transverse axis of said half, whereas the shorter cutting line runs according to the shorter axis of the inner half of the template.
- The attached drawings show an embodiment with the aid of which the constitution of the case, the features thereof and the way to assemble the planar object will be better understood.
In the drawings: -
Figure 1 shows a plan view of a support formed according to the invention from a laminar part. -
Figure 2 shows a perspective view of the laminar part ofFigure 1 , slightly folded according to a mid transverse line. -
Figure 3 is a view similar toFigure 2 , with a planar part assembled on the support. -
Figure 4 shows an execution variant of the support, formed from a template with a square contour. -
Figures 5 and 6 show the support ofFigure 4 , with a disc assembled depending on the display. -
Figure 6 shows a perspective view of the support ofFigure 4 in an intermediate folded position to form a case containing the planar object. -
Figure 1 shows a laminar part, made of cardboard or the like, withreference number 1 and which can have two parallellongitudinal edges 2. - Two
cutting lines laminar part 1. These cutting lines can be formed by grooves with increasing width towards the central cross point. Afold line 5 coinciding with the shorter cutting line III and running between thelongitudinal edges 2 of the laminar part is also made in thelaminar part 1. - The
longer cutting line 4 defines the diagonal of a square which is formed byperipheral fold lines 6 and which is inscribed in the laminar part. - The
shorter cutting line 3 is extended at both ends by means ofinner fold lines 7 coinciding with thetransverse fold line 5 of the laminar part. - The
peripheral fold lines 6, theinner fold lines 7 and thecutting lines central portions 8 linked to one another two by two through theinner fold lines 7. Theseportions 8 are progressively folded towards the inside upon folding thelaminar part 1 on thetransverse fold line 5, as can be seen inFigure 2 . - The ends of the
shorter cutting line 3 are separated from theinner fold lines 7 byintermediate windows 9. - The inner vertex of the
central portions 8 is finished by means of abevel edge 10. -
Rhomboidal windows 11 can be made in coincidence with theinner fold lines 7, between the latter and the edge of thelaminar part 2, in coincidence with the ends of thetransverse fold line 5. - With the described constitution, the
central portions 8 can be partially raised, as a result of theperipheral fold lines 6 andinner fold lines 7, the cutting lines orgrooves laminar part 12, such as a compact disc for example, which will be supported at its edge on the outer edge of thewindows 9. Therhomboidal windows 11 will facilitate, together with the fold and cutting lines, the partial raising of thecentral portions 8 to receive and hold thedisc 12. - The
rhomboidal windows 11 can be retracted with respect to thelongitudinal edges 2 of the laminar part. - The
laminar part 1 can take on any configuration, for example a square contour configuration, as shown inFigure 4 , with acentral fold line 13 which is perpendicular to two of the opposite edges and determining, upon folding the template on said line, two superimposed halves, aninner half 14 and anotherouter half 15 which, once placed against one another, are folded on the mid transverse line corresponding to thetransverse fold line 5 of the laminar part ofFigures 1 and 2 . On theinner half 14, thecutting lines Figure 1 , as well as theperipheral fold lines 6 andinner fold lines 7 and thewindows Figures 1 and 2 is configured which allows assembling adiscoid part 12 on theshorter cutting lines 3, until being supported against the outer edge of thewindows 9, the template being used in this position as a display support. - A case is obtained by folding the template from the position of
Figure 5 on thefold line 5, which case is partially closed inFigure 6 , thecovers 16 and 17 of which will be used as protective means for thedisc 12. - Otherwise, in
Figure 4 , the same cutting lines, fold lines, etc. are indicated with the same reference numbers as inFigure 1 . - Although in the described example the planar object has been depicted as a compact disc, it could be another article, also having a planar structure, even though it has a different contour.
- The support of the invention can likewise include a single set of cutting lines and fold lines, as has been depicted, or two or more in order to contain an identical number of planar articles.
