Abstract

A starter having a motor circuit having a resistor element limiting electric current flowing through a motor at an early stage of energizing the motor, and an auxiliary contact connected to the resistor element in parallel thereto. An auxiliary electromagnetic switch, operative to open or close the auxiliary contact, is fixedly mounted on at least one of a housing or an end frame of the motor via a mounting member in an area close proximity to the outer circumferential periphery of the motor. A main electromagnetic switch is fixedly mounted on the housing by means of a plurality of bolts in the area close proximity to an outer circumferential periphery of the motor.
