Abstract

A household washing machine, in particular a dishwasher, is described which comprises: a wash tub adapted to wash crockery through washing means comprising sprayers adapted to spray a washing liquid, in particular water, to which at least two different types of washing agents are added during the wash, said at least two different types of washing agents comprising a multiphase preparation; heating means adapted to warm up said washing means in said wash tub; means for managing and controlling the operation of the washing machine, comprising a control system, in particular electric or electronic type, implementing at least one wash programme or cycle. The invention is characterized in that said wash cycle is implemented by said control system independently of the type of washing agent used, and comprises wash steps being so structured that good wash results are ensured with any type of washing agent.

HOUSEHOLD WASHING MACHINE, IN PARTICULAR A DISHWASHER, AND METHOD FOR CONTROLLING THE OPERATION OF SAID WASHING MACHINE"
DESCRIPTION
The present invention relates to a household washing machine, in particular a dishwasher, according to the preamble of claim 1.
Household washing machines, in particular dishwashers, known in the art comprise a wash tub in which crockery is cleaned through washing means comprising washing liquid sprayers and a washing agent; typically, said washing liquid is sprayed onto the crockery to be washed.
Said dishwashers comprise means for managing and controlling the operation of the washing machine, which generally comprise an electric or electronic control system which operates in order to implement wash programmes or cycles. It is known that the control systems of current household dishwashers are designed to execute a plurality of wash programmes or cycles, which typically vary depending on load, type of crockery, degree of dirtiness or rinsing performance required by the crockery to be washed.
Each wash programme of said plurality of wash programmes usually comprises: at least one first dish wash step, wherein a first washing agent, in particular detergent adapted to remove dirt from crockery, is added to the washing liquid supplied from the water main; at least one second dish rinse aid step, wherein a second washing agent, in particular rinse aid, is added to the washing liquid supplied from the water main. Each wash programme of said plurality of wash programmes may also comprise: at least one dish prewash step, which precedes the first wash step and allows to soften the dirt and to remove the most greasy residues from the crockery; at least one intermediate rinse step between the first wash step and the second rinse aid step, which allows the circulating washing liquid supplied from the water main to eliminate the last residues of dirt still present on the crockery as well as the chemical residues produced during the wash step; at least one dish drying step carried out when the wash cycle is over. The chemical industry lias long been marketing different types of washing agents to be added to the washing liquid during the various wash programmes or cycles implemented by known dishwashers.
For instance, powder or liquid washing agents are known in the art; moreover washing agents are provided as tablets containing several active principles which dissolve in the washing liquid supplied to the wash tub of the dishwasher during the various steps of a wash programme or cycle.
Such washing agents, which will hereafter be referred to simply as "multiphase preparations", are usually provided in the form of "tablets" featuring a substantially concentric arrangement of different active principles or components, which tablets are dropped in the wash tub of the dishwasher at the beginning of the programme and are dissolved in the washing liquid during the various steps of an appropriate wash cycle.
Also, each of said components may be coated with a substance adapted to prevent an active principle required for a subsequent step of the wash cycle from dissolving prematurely.
Document No. DE 19957243 discloses a household washing machine, in particular a dishwasher, comprising a control system adapted to allow for the selection of a plurality of wash programmes.
A first portion of said plurality of wash programmes has been conceived for using so- called "traditional" washing agents, such as powder or liquid ones, whereas a second and different portion of said plurality of wash programmes has been specifically conceived for using multiphase preparations.
In particular, those wash programmes specifically conceived for multiphase preparations comprise wash steps having a longer duration and/or a higher temperature than the other wash programmes specifically conceived for "traditional" washing agents, so that the active principles or components of said multiphase preparations can be dissolved properly.
Consequently, the user must necessarily select different wash programmes depending on the type of washing agent that will be used during the wash cycle. The above-described household dishwasher has many drawbacks.
A first drawback of the above-described solution and of the other solutions known in the art is that wash tasks become complex and uncomfortable for the user, who must necessarily select different wash programmes depending on the type of washing agent that will be used during the wash cycle.
Another drawback is that the probability of the user making mistakes when selecting the wash programme is increased, even more so given the high number of wash programmes available to the user, resulting in worsening the results of dish cleaning. A further problem of the above-described household dishwasher is that the user must select the wash programme specifically conceived for using a multiphase preparation through suitable selector means, e.g. keys and/or push-buttons located on a control panel of the dishwasher. This inevitably leads to higher production costs and complexity of the washing machine, in turn resulting in an increasing number of possible faults of the latter.
In this frame, the main object of the present invention is to provide a household washing machine, in particular a dishwasher, which makes wash tasks simpler and easier for a user. It is another object of the present invention to provide a washing machine which reduces the risk of the user making mistakes when selecting a wash programme, at the same time ensuring a proper washing of the crockery.
It is another object of the present invention to provide a washing machine constructed in a simple and functional manner, thus avoiding any increase in production costs and eliminating the risk of malfunctions of the washing machine.
A further object is to widen the actual versatility of household washing machines, in particular of dishwashers, and to manufacture said washing machines in such a way as to allow for new and manifold utilizations, hi order to achieve these objects, the present invention provides a household washing machine, in particular a dishwasher, incorporating the features set out in the annexed claims, which are intended as an integral part of the present description. Further objects, features and advantages of the present invention will become apparent from the following detailed description and from the annexed drawing, which is supplied by way of non-limiting example and which shows a general diagram of the operation of a wash programme or cycle of a household washing machine, in particular a dishwasher, incorporating the features of the present invention. Said washing machine comprises: a wash tub adapted to wash crockery through washing means comprising a washing liquid, in particular water, to which at least two different types of washing agents are added during the wash, said at least two different types of washing agents comprising a multiphase preparation; - heating means adapted to warm up said washing liquid in said wash tub; means for managing and controlling the operation of the washing machine, comprising a control system, in particular electric or electronic type, implementing at least one wash programme or wash cycle.
It is clear that said at least two different types of washing agents may also comprise, in addition to said multiphase preparation, a powder and/or liquid washing agent of a type known in the art.
According to the present invention, said at least one wash cycle is implemented by said control system independently of the type of washing agent used, so that the washing machine can operate properly with any type of washing agent. As aforesaid, Fig. 1 shows a general diagram of the operation of a wash programme or cycle of a washing machine incorporating the features of the present invention; the X axis indicates the duration t (not shown in scale) of the wash cycle, whereas the Y axis indicates the Celsius temperatures T (shown in scale) of said wash cycle.
After having loaded the crockery in the washing machine, the user puts a washing agent, which may be without distinction a powder, a liquid or a multiphase preparation, in said wash tub of said washing machine .
Preferably, said washing agent is placed in a suitable dispenser device adapted to release the washing agent into the wash tub when appropriate.
The wash cycle according to the present invention comprises at least one first dish wash step A, wherein a first portion of said washing agent is added to the washing liquid, in particular said first portion being suitable for washing crockery.
During said first step A, the heating means of the washing machine warm up the washing liquid and said first portion of washing agent to a first temperature Tl of about 55°C. Said first temperature Tl allows to obtain optimum results when using either a powder or liquid washing agent or a multiphase preparation.
As a matter of fact, multiphase preparations known in the art typically comprise a first active principle adapted to clean crockery, which active principle is dissolved and provides a cleaning action which is especially effective at said first temperature Tl. Moreover, said first step A has a duration At1 preferably comprised between thirty and forty minutes. During said first step A, said washing agent is preferably dispensed into the wash tub at a temperature T2 of about 35°C, in particular by opening the dispenser device containing it.
The wash cycle according to the present invention comprises at least one second dish rinse aid step B, wherein a second active principle, in particular rinse aid, is added to the washing liquid.
During said second step B, the heating means of the washing machine warm up the washing liquid and said second active principle to a temperature T3 between 60°C and 700C, preferably about 67°C. Said second step B has a duration Δt2 preferably comprised between thirty and forty minutes.
Said first temperature T3 and said duration Δt2 allow to obtain optimum results when using either powder or liquid rinse aid or a multiphase preparation. In fact, multiphase preparations known in the art typically comprise a second active principle used as rinse aid, which is coated with a layer of protective material, usually wax, dissolving properly at said temperature T3.
Therefore, the measure which makes unnecessary the differentiation of the programmes according to the type of washing agent used unnecessary is the selection of the values Tl /At1 and, most importantly, T3/Δt2. The wash cycle according to the present invention may also comprise at least one dish prewash step P, which precedes said first dish wash step A.
During said prewash step P, washing liquid, in particular water from the main, is supplied into the wash tub at a temperature TP of about 15°C. Said prewash step P has a duration Δtp between ten and twenty minutes, so that the dirt can be softened and the most greasy residues can be removed from the crockery. The wash cycle according to the present invention may also comprise at least one intermediate rinse step R between the first wash step A and the second dish rinse aid step B. During said rinse step R, the washing liquid has a temperature TR between 15°C and 48°C. In particular, when washing crockery including glassware, said temperature TR is preferably about 46°C and the heating means of the washing machine are turned on intermittently in order to prevent the glassware from suffering any damage during the wash cycle.
Said rinse step R has a duration Δtp between seven and fifteen minutes.
Finally, the wash cycle according to the present invention may comprise at least one dish drying step FA started at the end of the wash cycle.
The features of the present invention, as well as its advantages, are apparent from the above description.
In particular, the fact that the household washing machine, in particular a dishwasher, according to the present invention is so conceived as to implement at least one wash cycle which is independent of the type of washing agent used allows to obtain a household washing machine which makes wash tasks simpler and easier for a user. A further advantage of the household washing machine according to the present invention is that, since the wash cycle is not dependent on the type of washing agent used, it allows to reduce drastically the risks of the user making mistakes when selecting a wash programme, at the same time ensuring that the crockery will always be washed properly. An additional advantage of the household washing machine according to the present invention is that it can be manufactured in a simple and functional manner, thus avoiding any increase in production costs or problems due to malfunctions of the washing machine and widening the actual versatility of household washing machines. The household washing machine described herein by way of example may be subject to many possible variations without departing from the novelty spirit of the inventive idea; it is also clear that in the practical realization of the invention the illustrated details may have different shapes or be replaced with other technically equivalent elements. It can therefore be easily understood that the present invention is not limited to the above-described washing machine, but may be subject to many modifications, improvements or replacements of equivalent parts and elements without departing from the inventive idea, as clearly specified in the following claims.

Claims

1. Household washing machine, in particular a dishwasher, comprising: a wash tub adapted to wash crockery through washing means comprising a washing liquid, in particular water, to which at least two different types of washing agents are added during the wash, said at least two different types of washing agents comprising a multiphase preparation; heating means adapted to warm up said washing liquid in said wash tub; means for managing and controlling the operation of the washing machine, comprising a control system, in particular electric or electronic type, implementing at least one wash programme or wash cycle; said washing machine being characterized in that said at least one wash cycle is implemented by said control system independently of the type of washing agent used, and comprises wash steps being so structured that good wash results are ensured with any type of washing agent.
2. Household washing machine according to claim 1, characterized in that said wash cycle comprises at least one first dish wash step (A), wherein a first portion of said washing agent is added to the washing liquid, said first portion of said washing agent being suitable for washing crockery.
3. Household washing machine according to the previous claim, characterized in that during said first step (A) said heating means allow to warm up the washing liquid and said first portion of washing agent to a first temperature (Tl) of about 55°C.
4. Household washing machine according to claim 2, characterized in that said first step (A) has a duration (Δtl) between thirty and forty minutes.
5. Household washing machine according to claim 2, characterized by comprising a dispenser device adapted to dispense said washing agent into the wash tub at a second temperature (TZ) of about 35°C.
6. Household washing machine according to claim 1, characterized in that said wash cycle comprises at least one second dish rinse aid step (B), wherein a second active principle, in particular rinse aid, is added to said washing liquid.
7. Household washing machine according to claim 6, characterized in that during said second step (B) said heating means of the washing machine are turned on in order to warm up the washing liquid and said second active principle to a third temperature (T3) between 60°C and 70°C, preferably about 67°C.
8. Household washing machine according to claim 6, characterized in that said second step (B) has a duration (Δt2) preferably comprised between thirty and forty minutes.
5 9. Household washing machine according to claim 2, characterized in that said wash cycle comprises a dish prewash step (P) preceding said first dish wash step (A) and having a duration (ΔtP) between ten and twenty minutes.
10. Household washing machine according to claims 2 and 6, characterized in that said wash cycle comprises at least one intermediate rinse step (R) between said first 0 step (A) and said second step (B).
11. Household washing machine according to the previous claim, characterized in that during said rinse step (R) said heating means are turned on in order to warm up the washing liquid to a fourth temperature (TR) between 15°C and 48°C.
12. Household washing machine according to the previous claim, characterized in 5 that said fourth temperature (TR) is about 460C and the heating means of the washing machine are turned on intermittently during said rinse step (R) for a wash cycle specifically conceived for washing crockery including glassware.
13. Household washing machine according to one or more of the claims 10 to 12, characterized in that said rinse step (R) has a duration (Δtp) between seven and fifteen O minutes.
14. Household washing machine according to one or more of the previous claims, characterized in that said wash cycle comprises at least one dish drying step (FA).
15. Method for controlling the operation of a household washing machine, in particular a dishwasher, comprising:
'.5 - a wash tub adapted for the wash of crockery through washing means comprising a washing liquid, in particular water, to which at least two different types of washing agents are added during the wash, said at least two different types of washing agents comprising a multiphase preparation; heating means adapted to warm up the washing liquid in said wash tub;
0 - means for managing and controlling the operation of the washing machine, comprising a control system, in particular of the electric or electronic type, implementing at least one wash programme or cycle; said method being characterized in that it provides for the implementation of at least one wash cycle comprising steps being so structured that the wash and rinse aid process is carried out effectively independently of the type of washing agent used, thus ensuring good wash results with any type of washing agent.
16. Method according to the previous claim, characterized in that said wash cycle comprises at least one first dish wash step (A) , said first step (A) comprising the following steps: a washing liquid, in particular water, is supplied initially into the wash tub; a washing agent is added to said washing liquid; - the washing liquid and the washing agent are warmed up to a first temperature (Tl) which allows a first active principle of said washing agent to be activated and/or dissolved.
17. Method according to claim 16, characterized in that said first temperature (Tl) is about 55°C and said first step (A) has a duration (Δtl) between thirty and forty minutes.
18. Method according to claim 16, characterized in that said addition of said washing agent to said washing liquid in the wash tub occurs at a second washing liquid temperature (T2) of about 35°C.
19. Method according to claim 15, characterized in that said wash cycle comprises at least one second dish rinse aid step (B) , said second step (B) comprising the following steps: a washing liquid, in particular water, is supplied into the wash tub; a second active principle, in particular rinse aid, is added to said washing liquid; - the washing liquid and the second active principle are warmed up to a third temperature (T3) which allows said second active principle to be activated and/or dissolved.
20. Method according to claim 19, characterized in that said third temperature (T3) is between 60°C and 700C, preferably about 67°C, and said second step (B) has a duration (Δt2) between thirty and forty minutes.
21. Method according to claims 16 and 19, characterized in that said wash cycle comprises an intermediate rinse step (R) between said first step (A) and said second step (B), said rinse step (R) comprising the following steps: a washing liquid, in particular water, is supplied into the wash tub; the washing liquid is warmed up to a fourth temperature (TR) between 15°C and 480C, preferably about 46°C, and said rinse step (R) is carried out for a duration (Δtp) between seven and fifteen minutes.
22. Method according to the previous claim, characterized in that during said rinse step (R) the heating means of the washing machine are turned on intermittently, in particular for a wash cycle specifically conceived for washing crockery including glassware.
23. Method according to any of claims 15 to 22, characterized in that said wash cycle comprises at least one dish drying step (FA).
