Abstract

A locking means for a variable cam phaser (1) comprises a locking pin to maintain a relative angular orientation between a drive (2) and driven (3) members; biasing means (14) being provided for biasing said locking pin (10) to its locked position; a portion of the locking pin (10) being exposed to a chamber (22), said chamber (22) being selectively communicable with a source of pressurised fluid whereby pressurisation of said chamber (22) with high pressure fluid urges the locking pin (11) to its unlocked position; actuating means being provided for selectively placing said chamber (22) in fluid communication with said source of pressurised fluid.
