Description

A WASHING MACHINE WITH OZONE FEED DIRECTLY INTO THE WATER SUPPLY PIPE
[0001] The present invention relates to a washing machine wherein ozonated washing is implemented.
[0002] In washing machines, particularly in laundry washing machines, the basic parameters effective in washing are the mechanical movement, the amount of detergent, the temperature and duration. Decreasing any one of these parameters results in the reduction of washing efficiency or the effect of one of the other parameters has to be increased in order to counteract this effect. For example, when the temperature goes down, the washing duration has to be increased. The critical of these parameters are the amount of detergent and the temperature. When the amount of detergent used is reduced, the amount of chemical waste product is decreased; it is then possible to shorten the washing duration with a lesser amount of water usage. However, reducing the amount of detergent results in profoundly lowering the washing efficiency and it is not possible to regain the same effect by changing the other parameters. Therefore alternative washing methods have been developed in order to increase the washing efficiency wherein the amount of detergent usage is reduced. One of these alternative washing methods is washing with ozone.
[0003] The ozone also has a significant bleaching and soil removal effect besides its disinfection effect. The laundry washed is provided to be whiter and disinfected by means of the ozone gas mixed in with the water received from the main supply in the washing machines. Additionally, since ozone has a soil removal effect, the use of detergents and other washing agents are reduced and savings in energy consumption is realized since the washing is carried out in lower temperatures. With the reduction in detergent usage, washing process can be realized using a lesser amount of water.
[0004] In the state of the art German Patent Application no. DE3232057 explanation is given for the disinfection and/or sterilization effect of ozone being used during the washing process in washing machines and dishwashers. Furthermore, ozone gas is also used during the rinsing process in this application.
[0005] In the state of the art United States of America Patent Application no. US5806120, the explication is given for an ozone generator that provides ozone by ionizing the air and a laundry machine wherein this ozone generator is used.
[0006] In the state of the art Canadian Patent Application no. CA2310864, the description is given while the water is received into the washing machine the water passes through a venturi-type differential pressure injector for injecting ozone gas created by the ozone generator into the water.
[0007] In the state of the art Japanese Patent Application no. JP6277385 a multi-faceted ozonated water generator connected and installed between a water feed valve and a water feed port of the washing tank is explained.
[0008] The stability and water solubility of ozone is quite low. One of the parameters designating the water solubility ozone is the oxidation reduction potential (ORP) value. If the ORP value in the water is 600 mV. - 800 mV. the disinfection of water, and if it is above 800 mV. then sterilization of the water is provided.
[0009] The objective of the present invention is to design a washing machine wherein ozone washing is carried out, enhancing the washing efficiency by increasing the water solubility of ozone.
[0010] In the washing machine designed to fulfill the objective of the present invention, explicated in the first claim and the respective claims thereof, ozone gas is given in the reverse direction of the water flow delivered from the main supply in order to increase the solubility of ozone gas in the water.
[0011] The washing machine comprises a water pipe that allows water to be taken into the tub and an ozone pipe having a discharge end extending into the water pipe such that it is in the reverse direction of the water flow in the water pipe and an entrance end connected to the ozone generator.
[0012] The ozone gas, received from the ozone generator and passing through the ozone pipe extending into the water pipe such that its direction is the reverse of the water flow direction in the water pipe, meets with the water flowing in the water pipe and the ozone gas impacts effectively with water according to the principle of reverse flow and the ozone gas is provided to dissolve in the water.
[0013] The ozone pipe providing transmission of the ozone gas is connected to the water pipe such that there is preferably an angle greater than 90°' there between. As a result of this angle between the ozone pipe and the water pipe, the ozone gas impacts reciprocally with the water flow and thus the water solubility speed of the ozone gas is increased.
[0014] By way of the present invention, the water solubility and the ORP value of the ozone gas is increased. Consequently, the ozone gas can be used in the washing process effectively and in a short time.
[0015] The washing machine designed to fulfill the objective of the present invention is illustrated in the attached figures, where: [0016] Figure 1 - is the schematic view of a washing machine.
[0017] Figure 2 - is the schematic view of an embodiment of the present invention.
[0018] Figure 3 - is the schematic view of another embodiment of the present invention.
[0019] The elements illustrated in the figures are numbered as follows:
1. Washing machine
2. Tub
3. Storage unit
4. Ozone generator
5. Water pipe
6. Ozone pipe
[0020] The washing machine (1) comprises a tub (2) wherein washing is carried out, an ozone generator (4) providing to produce the ozone gas, a water pipe (5) with one end connected to the main supply and the other end extending into the tub (2), providing to deliver the water received from the main supply to the tub (2) and an ozone pipe (6) with one end connected to the ozone generator (4), the other end extending into the water pipe (5), providing to deliver the ozone gas received from the ozone generator (4) into the water pipe (5) almost in the reverse direction of the water flowing in the water pipe (5) such that it is caused to impact and dissolve with the water flowing therein (Figure 1 and Figure 2).
[0021] The ozone pipe (6) providing to transmit the ozone gas received from the ozone generator (4) is connected to the water pipe (5) such that there is an angle greater than 90° there between - preferably closer to 180°. As a result of this angle between the ozone pipe (6) and the water pipe (5), the ozone gas is provided to impact with the water flow and increase the water solubility thereof.
[0022] The water solubility and effectiveness of the ozone gas is increased by delivering the ozone gas received from the ozone generator (4) such that it is sprayed into the water pipe (5) in the reverse direction of the water flow by the ozone pipe (6). By mixing the ozone gas with the water received from the main supply by applying the reverse flow method, a high ORP value is reached in a short while and the ozone gas can be effectively used in the washing process.
[0023] In this embodiment of the present invention, the lengths, diameters of the ozone pipe and the water pipe, the flow rates of the ozone gas and the main water supply are all factors that affect the water solubility of the ozone gas. As the length of the ozone pipe is increased and as the diameter gets narrower, the transmission rate of the ozone gas increases. [0024] In another embodiment of the present invention, the washing machine (1) comprises a storage unit (3) having one or more compartments, wherein the water from the main supply is received and the main water supply is delivered into the tub (2) after passing there through. In this embodiment, the ozone pipe (6) extends into the compartments situated in the storage unit (3) and the ozone gas and the water are constantly being fed. In this embodiment, the number of the compartments, lengths, and the flow rates of the ozone gas and the main water supply affect the water solubility of the ozone gas (Figure 2).
[0025] The washing machine (1) can be a laundry washing machine or a dishwasher.
[0026] In the embodiment wherein the washing machine (1) is utilized as a laundry washing machine, a washing program is implemented having an ozonated wash cycle wherein washing is first carried out with ozone, then after this cycle, a detergent wash cycle wherein only detergent is used in the washing process without applying ozone and following with rinsing and spin drying cycles.
[0027] By means of the present invention, the washing efficiency is increased, and hygiene and sterilization is realized by providing wash water having a high concentration of ozone gas. Furthermore, the bleaching effect of the water with a high ORP value is strong and less detergent is used to achieve a much greater washing efficiency. When less detergent is used, the amount of the rinse water also decreases and relatively the duration of the washing program gets shorter.
