Abstract

The invention relates to covers for a splash-proof electrical utility box, comprising an annular cover frame (1) and a lid element (3, 3') fitting in its opening (2). Beneath the cover frame (1) is fitted a separate water-proofing shield (4), from which extends a splash-proofness indicating mark (5 (IP 44)) onto an external side of the cover frame (1). The covers according to the invention are particularly useful for built-in socket-outlets and power switches.

Description

Covers for a splash-proof electrical utility box
The invention relates to covers for a splash-proof electrical utility box, comprising an annular cover frame and a lid element fitting in its opening, as well as a separate water-proofing shield fitted beneath the cover frame.
It is an object of the invention to provide utility box covers useful for both splash- proof utility boxes and those without splash-proofing.
This object is accomplished by the invention on the basis of characterizing features set forth in claim 1.
Hence, the invention makes use of a separate water-proofing shield, by means of which a dry space utility box can be modified for a splash-proof utility box. In order to confirm, even after the electrical box has been installed, whether the latter is a dry space box or a splash-proof box, the idea in the invention is to provide the water-proofing shield with a splash-proofness indicating mark which extends therefrom onto an external side of the cover frame. Being an integral part of the water-proofing shield, the mark can always be used for confirming that spaces, in which splash-proofness is required, have proper utility box covers installed therein.
Two exemplary embodiments of the invention will now be described in more detail with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which
Rg. 1 shows covers of the invention for a splash-proof socket-outlet in an exploded view and
Hg. 2 shows the socket-outlet covers of fig. 1 in an assembled condition;
Fig. 3 shows power switch covers of the invention in an exploded view and
Fig. 4 shows the covers of fig. 3 in an assembled condition, in which the lid element comprises a flip-flop 3'. In both illustrated exemplary embodiments, the functionally identical elements share the same reference numerals. First, both exemplary embodiments will be described with regard to structural elements identical to each other.
The utility box covers include an annular cover frame 1 and a lid element 3, 31, fitting in its opening. Beneath the cover frame 1 is fitted a separate water-proofing shield 4, from which extends a splash-proofness indicating mark 5 (IP 44) onto an external side of the cover frame.
The utility box covers consistent with the described exemplary embodiments are adaptable to built-in utility boxes. Hence, the water-proofing shield 4 includes a box-encircling ring element 4a, and a collar 4b which encircles an outer end of the latter and is retained between the cover frame 1 and the wall surface as the utility box, along with its covers, is in its installed position.
The exemplary embodiment of figs. 1 and 2 describes covers for socket-outlets. In this case, the lid element 3 has its external side provided with an annular sealing bead 7 resting against an internal side of the cover frame 1. The lid element 3 is provided with recesses for plugs and those are concealed with splash-proof cover flaps.
Figs. 3 and 4 illustrate covers for power switches. The cover frame 1 has its opening 2 fitted with a separate splash-water resistant sealing plate 10. The cover frame 1 is provided with a collar 8, restricting its opening 2 and having on its top surface an annular sealing bead 9, the sealing plate 10 resting thereon or the sealing plate 10 having its edges respond thereto. In the middle of the sealing plate 10 is an opening, by way of which the lid-forming flip-flop 3' is in a mechanical contact with the power switch (not shown).
