Abstract

A connection for comer joints in door and window frames, in particular made of wood and aluminium, comprises two components, one of which is destined to connect the two elements of the joint while preventing relative sliding there-between, while the other component is destined to fix the connection of the elements stably. The first of the components enables a connection of the two elements of the joint positioned at any angle, while the other component exerts between the two elements a traction of adequate strength. In a simplified form of the invention, the two components of the joint are comprised in a single structural assembly comprising screws acting at opposite ends of non-hinged blocks which are anchorable to the two elements of the joint .

Description

Description
Connection Assemblies for Corner Joints for Window and Door Frames.
Technical Field
The invention relates to connection assemblies for corner joints for window and door frames.
Specifically though not exclusively the invention relates to a joint assembly for variable-angle corners in window and door frames made of wood and aluminium.
Background Art
For some time now the prior art has included window and door frame joint manufacturing processes, in particular made of wood and aluminium or PVC, which enable easy assembly or dismounting of the assemblies themselves in order to facilitate repair and maintenance operations, including assembly on site.
In industrial patent no. MO2002A000180, filed in Italy by the same applicant, a process is claimed for manufacturing wood and aluminium or PVC door and window joints, which comprises realisation of fixed and mobile frames using simplified machines having contained production costs, assembly of which is achieved by joining the crossbars and uprights of the frames using metal corner pieces positioned at the four corners of the frame, and frame plates or other traction-resistant elements tensioned about the frames. The above process further includes application of external protection plates made of aluminium or PVC, the terminal sides of which are gripped by pressure force between the metal elements and the wooden frame itself, or between the window-glass gaskets and the wooden frame. The frame assemblies thus obtained exhibit very good aesthetic qualities thanks to the combined use of wood and aluminium for the composition of the structures of the fixed and mobile frames, but fundamentally exhibit the special characteristic of being assembled by removable means and components, in such a way as, if necessary, to be dismountable, thus conserving each component of the frame for future re-assembly. In the above context it is advisable to conduct research for new technical solutions which can improve the above-described characteristic, emphasising the advantages connected to the ease of assembly and dismounting of the frame.
The main aim of the present invention is to provide an assembly for frame corner joints which is extremely effective and easily assemblable and dismountable using means which are very readily available.
A further aim of the invention is to provide a connection for corner joints, in particular in wood and aluminium or PVC which can be applied when the joint elements are used to form variable angles. The above aims and others besides are all achieved by a joint connection for frame joints in wood or aluminium or PVC, or another material, which comprises at least a first and a second component, a first of these components being designed to join the joint elements in a way which avoids relative sliding between the elements, a second of the components being designed to constrain the connection stably. In a preferred embodiment, the first of the components comprises two blocks, respectively removably anchorable to the two joint elements, the blocks being connected to a hinged joint composed of two parts which are joined together by a hinge, while the second of the components comprises two anchor supports, solidly constrained respectively to the two joint elements, the supports affording diametral cylindrical seatings for housing holed pivots in which screws are inserted, which screws screw into a threaded sleeve interpositioned between the two joint elements, in such a way that a traction is exerted between the elements which is sufficient to stably fix the joint. In a further preferred embodiment of the invention, the two components of the joint are part of a single structural assembly in which two blocks which are respectively removably anchorable to the two joint elements are connected, by one side, to a hinged joint composed of two parts joined together by a hinge, while on the other side they are solidly constrained to housing seatings of holed pivots in which screws are inserted, which screws screw into a threaded sleeve interpositioned between the two elements of the joint. In a further and simplified embodiment, the two joint components are once more part of a single structural assembly composed by two blocks respectively removably anchorable to the two elements of the joint, two ends of the blocks being complementarily shaped to enable a reciprocal positioning of the blocks according to a given angle, a screw being used to connect the ends together, the other two ends of the blocks being provided with appendages which enable a connection of the blocks to each other by means of a further, preferably self-tapping screw.
With the first two embodiments, as described above, a stable connection of the joints of door and window frames forming any angle is guaranteed, while the final preferred embodiment is destined to connect elements which are positionable at a predetermined angle. Therefore, while the first two embodiments of the invention offer maximum flexibility of use, with the final embodiment there is a low-cost solution for standard-type configurations, such as those which involve right-angled jointing of elements. In all cases, however, the required characteristic is obtained, i.e. ease of joining which is reliable and which can be performed using ordinary and readily-available tools. Disclosure of Invention
These and other characteristics of the present invention will better emerge from the detailed description of some preferred but not exclusive embodiments of the invention, illustrated purely by way of non-limiting example in the accompanying figures of the drawings, in which: figure 1 is a perspective view, partially sectioned, of a joint for frames which is joined using the connections of the invention in a first embodiment thereof; figure 2 is a perspective view of a joint component of the embodiment of figure 1; figure 3 is an exploded view of one of the components used in the joint of figure 1; figure 4 is a detailed and exploded view of a further embodiment of the connections of the invention; figure 5 is a perspective view in partial section of a joint for frames which is connected using the joints of the invention, in a further embodiment thereof; figure 6 is a sectioned view of the connection of figure 5. With reference to figure 1, 10 denotes in its entirety a joint for frames in which the two elements 11, 12 of the joint, forming between them an angle which is greater than 90 degrees, are stably connected to one another by a first component, 13, illustrated in detail in figure 2, destined to guarantee the union between the two elements 11, 12 and by a second component 14, destined to maintain a stable connection between the elements of the frame. The second component comprises, in particular, means which are resistant to traction and which act between the two elements of the frame, the means being constituted, in this embodiment of the invention, by screws 15, 16 connected at an end thereof to a threaded sleeve 18, and at the other end thereof to anchoring blocks 19, 20, respectively solidly constrained to the two elements 11, 12 of the joint 10.
One of the above-mentioned anchoring blocks 19, 20 is illustrated in detail in figure 3, where, in an exploded view, it can be seen that it is composed of a cylindrical first containment element 21, in which a pivot 22 is diametrally inserted, which pivot 22 affords a through-cavity for housing a head of a screw destined to connect at another end thereof to the threaded sleeve 18. A slotted opening 40 is afforded in the containing element 21, for passage of the screw, which can be inclined at a sufficiently wide angle so as to enable the connection of frame joints whose elements can form any angle between them. The component 13, illustrated in figure 2, guarantees the union between the two elements 11, 12 of the joint 10, and comprises two box-type blocks 23, 24, destined respectively to anchor to the elements 11 and 12 by means of two pivots 25, 26 elastically associated to the blocks 23, 24, the pivots being destined to engage in circular cavities afforded in the metal elements which are external of the frame. The two blocks 23, 24 of the component 13 are respectively connected, by means of screws 27, 28, with the two parts 29, 30 of a cylindrical hinge joint 31, the two parts 29, 30 being, in particular, U- shaped, wherein one of the two arms of the U is shaped while the other is flat, so that when positioning the two parts 29, 30 of the joint specularly, the necessary coplanarity of the screws 27, 28 is guaranteed and therefore the blocks 23, 24 connected thereto are also coplanar. In a further embodiment of the frame joints of the invention, illustrated in figure 4, the two components of the joint are comprised in a single structural assembly, in which the component 13', destined to guarantee the union of the two elements of the joint in order to prevent reciprocal sliding thereof, is structured practically the same as the component 13 of figure 2, and bears, solidly constrained to the two ends thereof, two housings, 41, 42 for pivots 22', which pivots 22' are provided with cavities for housing the heads of the screws 15', 16', destined to constitute the second component of the invention, which is aimed at stably fixing the joints of frames. The housings 41, 42, include semicircular cavities 43, 44, in which the pivots 22' house exactly, and also include slots 45, 46, for permitting passage, at variable angles, of the screws 15', 16', which connect to a threaded sleeve 18', not illustrated in the figures of the drawings, similar to the sleeve 18 of figure 1, thus completing the second component of the joint of the invention. In a further and simplified embodiment of the joint connection for frames of the invention, illustrated in figures 5 and 6, the two components of the connection are once more comprised in a single structural assembly, in which the component 13", destined to guarantee the union of the two elements 11', 12' in such a way as to prevent reciprocal sliding thereof, is composed of two blocks 32, 33, respectively removably anchorable to the elements of the joint, two ends of the blocks 32, 33 being shaped complementarily to enable a reciprocal positioning of the blocks 32, 33 at a given angle; a screw 34, being used to connect the ends together. The other component 14", destined to maintain the connection of the two elements of the joint stable, is made up of a self-tapping screw 35, engaged in appendages 36, 37 of the two blocks 32, 33. In this case too, two pivots 38, 39 are elastically associated to the blocks 32, 33 and are destined to engage in circular cavities present in the metal elements external of the frame in order to guarantee anchoring of the component 13' to the two elements of the frame. In a preferred embodiment of the invention, not illustrated in the accompanying figures of the drawings, the two blocks 32, 33 are no longer connected removably but are solidly joined in a single body to form a fixed subframe. In the various embodiments the joint of the invention is made in two successive stages, easily deducible from the above description.
In a first stage the two elements of the joint are united, by means of the component 13 or 13' or 13", of the joint connection, engaging the two pivots 25, 26 or 38, 39 elastically associated to the component in the respective housings afforded in the metal elements of the two parts of the frame, the engagement of the pivots being possibly performed with the component 13 or 13' or 13" already assembled in its definitive form, or with the two parts of the component separate and thereafter assembled, using the screw 34 or the hinge joint 31 stem. The connection is thus completed by means of the second component 14 or 14", acting, in the case of the component 14, on both screws 15, 16 or 15' and 16' of the component, while, in the case of the component 14", on the single screw 35 which can be self-tapping as illustrated in figures 5 and 6, or can be provided with a nut. In any case, the inherent advantages of the joint connection of the invention are obvious, being simple, immediate and above all having the special characteristic of being dismountable. It is also clear that these advantages and characteristics are safeguarded even where further modifications or variations are made to the above-described embodiments.
The size and shape of the frames assembled using the joint connections of the present invention can be varied.
In particular, the frames assemblable using the connections realised according to the first or the second above-described preferred embodiments can comprise joints having elements forming angles between them of less than 90 degrees. The component 13 or 13', destined to connect the two elements of the junction in such a way as to prevent reciprocal sliding, can obviously comprise hinged joints which are different from the joint 31 described above. The anchoring supports 19, 20 of the screws 15, 16, destined to exert the necessary traction action between the two elements of the joint, can differ from those illustrated both in size and shape, though still enabling an ample angle of inclination of the screws with respect to the supports; the same thing, obviously, can be said also for the anchoring housings 41, 42 of the screws 15', 16' of the embodiment of figure 4.
