Definitions

  • the present invention relates to a recessed handle for door- and window-leaves .
  • the present invention relates to a recessed handle for sliding door- and window-leaves, provided with a bolt activatable transversely to the direction of sliding, and an "anti- false manoeuvre" device linked to the bolt itself.
  • the present invention relates to a recessed handle for a sliding door- or window-leaf, provided with a bolt activatable transversely to the direction of sliding, and a device for controlling the switching of the bolt itself.
  • elongated handles which include a casing provided with a pair of longitudinal sides, installable in an elongated slot formed in one side of the stile of the leaf, transversely to the direction of sliding.
  • This casing is provided with a flat plate which remains on the outer side of the leaf.
  • These handles include a plurality of devices, each of which is connected with a specific function, as appears from US patent 6050617 in the ownership of Ferco.
  • the practice is known of fitting each recessed handle with a pair of clamping members carried between the longitudinal sides in an end position.
  • one of the two clamping members is fixed and the remaining one is movable longitudinally against the action of a retaining spring, which tends to thrust it outwards.
  • These clamping members are carried in proximity to respective end portions of the handle itself in order to grip the ends of the slot in cooperation with the elongated flat body, in such a way as to cause the recessed handle itself to be maintained in position.
  • at least one is movable, and presents an external portion profiled as an inclined plane capable of sliding into the corresponding end of the slot at the fitting stage, during which the retaining spring is momentarily pushed inwards to allow installation.
  • the final position of this clamping member with respect to the casing is determined by the shape and the accuracy with which the corresponding end of the slot housing the handle is made, given that it is this parameter that controls the degree of torsion at rest of the retaining spring which acts longitudinally on the clamping member itself.
  • handles include an "L" or "T” shaped bolt capable of transversely engaging a slit formed laterally in a stile of a fixed portion of the window or door.
  • the bolt is rigidly connected to a slider which is longitudinally movable and usable for switching the bolt between the open and the closed positions, in which the bolt itself is, respectively, free or transversely coupled to a striker carried by the fixed leaf inside the slit.
  • the slider normally has a hollow longitudinal portion usable by the fingertips of one hand for longitudinal activation of the slider.
  • FERCO manufactures a recessed handle provided with a device impeding the switching of the slider from the open to the closed position of the bolt, known in technical parlance as a false manoeuvre.
  • This device includes a movable element carried freely sliding by a transverse seat formed in the movable clamping member against the thrust of a spring.
  • this movable element carries solidly a rebate for a striker element which is rigidly connected to the slider, and is therefore longitudinally movable.
  • the striker element which for practicality may be indicated by the term saddle, is accommodated inside the movable clamping member which houses it longitudinally in the handle casing. The presence of the rebate in the path of the saddle enables prevention of the involuntary alteration of the position of the bolt to the closed position with the leaf open.
  • the saddle presents a pair of prongs R, located symmetrically with respect to a central longitudinal plane, and in a position substantially overlapping the longitudinal sides of the casing itself of the handle.
  • the movable element can be selectively installed with the respective rebate located adjacent to one of the two prongs, depending on whether it is necessary to open the sliding leaf towards the right or towards the left. Taking the leaf from an open position towards the closed position in contact with the fixed portion brings about the activation of the device impeding the switching of the slider, which, as the forward progress of the leaf is completed and the movable element therefore withdrawn, displaces the rebate for the prong located on the stile side and allows the activation of the slider and therefore the closing of the bolt.
  • the rebate is carried by the movable element eccentrically with respect to the longitudinal central plane.
  • the position assumed by the movable clamping member with respect to the handle casing can depend on the longitudinal dimension of the slot, and in the end on the characteristics of the coupling with the stile, and therefore, strictly speaking, only when installation is completed.
  • the arrangement of the two prongs together with the fact that only one of them is effectively- dedicated to impeding the switching of the slider, and therefore of the bolt, from the open position to the closed position, can present a disadvantage.
  • the successive application of stresses to the rebate could, over time, compromise the operation of the device impeding the switching of the slider, and require frequent replacement of the clamping member or at least periodic checking of the condition of the movable element, of the respective rebate and/or of the transverse seat formed in the movable member within which the movable element is free to slide.
  • the solution adopted by FERCO, described above, is therefore only partially satisfactory and ought to be modified.
  • An object of the present invention is to produce a recessed handle for a sliding leaf of a door or window which allows the disadvantages explained above to be resolved.
  • this handle must have a device impeding the switching of the slider, capable of satisfying needs to which, in the present state of affairs, there is no answer. Therefore, through the application of what will be explained here, it will be possible to produce a handle which represents a new and original source of economic advantage, capable of altering the current market for recessed handles .
  • a recessed handle is created whose principal characteristics will be described in at least one of the claims which follow.
  • Fig. 1 is a schematic rear view of the handle according to the present invention, represented in a first operating position;
  • Fig. 2 is a schematic side view, with parts in section and parts removed for clarity, of figure 1;
  • FIG. 3 illustrates an upper portion of figure 1, in a second operating position, and with parts removed for clarity;
  • FIG. 4 illustrates an upper portion of figure 2, in the second operating position, and with parts removed for clarity.
  • no. 1 indicates, in its entirety, a recessed handle, effectively installable on leaves 2 of doors or windows which slide with respect to a fixed leaf / fixed portion 3.
  • leaf 3 has been illustrated in figure 1 only with the portion facing laterally towards leaf 2 by a line of dash-and-2- dots type, purely to indicate its dimensions.
  • such leaves 2 have slots formed for this purpose in respective vertical stiles and usually delimited by annular edges elongated transversely to the direction of sliding which, at their respective ends, are substantially circular.
  • Recessed handles usually engage the respective slots by gripping them by means of clamping members .
  • every handle of this type has a casing 10, which is provided with a flat plate 11 of elongated form substantially similar geometrically to housing slot 4, visible in section in figure 2 only by means of two vertical lines which allow its respective thickness to be shown.
  • handle 1 includes a pair of longitudinal sides 14 which extend from a flat internal face 12 of plate 11 and transversely to it, to delimit laterally a determinate volume of substantially parallelepiped form.
  • the handle also includes two clamping members 15, each of which is housed in an end position between sides 14, and is provided with a projection 17 which cooperates with face 12 of plate 11 to connect it rigidly to the ends of the slot 4 in leaf 2. Solely for simplicity and economy, it has been decided to provide simplified drawings in which leaf 2 is visible only in figure 1, by means of the respective section lines, without this being able to create difficulties of interpretation of what has been and will be described below.
  • Handle 1 has a slider 20, including an elongated body housed between sides 14, for at least half of their length, in longitudinally sliding manner and selectively in contact with face 12 of plate 11.
  • a slider 20 including an elongated body housed between sides 14, for at least half of their length, in longitudinally sliding manner and selectively in contact with face 12 of plate 11.
  • An example of this slider is to be found in the Applicant's Italian patent application no. RA2005A000009, filed on 14 March 2005, to which reference is made for brevity.
  • This slider 20 is movable longitudinally between a first open operating position visible in figures 1 and 2, and a second operative position visible in figures 3 and 4.
  • Slider 20 carries solidly a connecting member 30, which has a transverse seat 32 for a bolt 34 visible only in figure 1, which is retained in position by means of a screw (known and not illustrated) .
  • Bolt 34 has at least one elbow 36 capable of housing a transverse element 38, carried by leaf 3, for retaining sliding leaf 2.
  • Bolt 34 can be L- shaped or T-shaped as in figure 1 in order to be installable indifferently on leaves 2 which open towards the right or towards the left. It should be noted that all that is visible of this transverse element 38 is the transverse section in figures 1 and 3.
  • Handle 1 also includes a control device 40 provided with an elongated member 42 located in line with a median longitudinal plane M through casing 4, and a single rebating member 44 for elongated member 42.
  • This member 44 is activatable transversely with respect to casing 4 itself, between a rest position in which this rebating member 44 is located in line with the median plane M, and a lateral position, visible in figure 3, in which this member 44 is displaced from plane M itself.
  • Member 44 therefore can selectively be made to face a head 43 of elongated member 42 to function as an obstacle to the longitudinal displacement of slider 20/bolt 34 from the open position visible in figure 1 to the closed position visible in figure 2.
  • Device 40 therefore, by means of rebating member 44, is capable in use of selectively impeding the switching of slider 20/bolt 34 to the closed position.
  • elongated member 42 has a single head 43 which lies on plane M and extends upwards at a lower level than slider 20 with respect to face 12 of plate 11.
  • clamping member 15 fitted with member 44 includes a movable interface member 46 having a seat 48, numbered only in figure 2, which houses a pin 49 transverse to plane M against the thrust of an axial spring
  • pin 49 extends transversely to plane M and is attached to rebating member 44 in the direction facing spring 50. In the direction facing leaf 3, pin 49 has a head 51 capable of making contact with a fixed striker
  • rebating member 44 is located at a lower level than head 51 of pin 49, in order to end up facing head 43, and at the same time to avoid interference with the part of pin 49 accommodated within housing 48.
  • pin 49 does not necessarily have to have a circular transverse section, but it is advantageous that seat 48 and pin 49 should have a geometrically similar conformation, to facilitate their relative sliding and maintenance of the position of the axis of the pin with respect to casing 3. Furthermore, the fact that interface member 46 is movable, together with the fact that it is shaped symmetrically in such a way as to be installable as in figure 1 or rotated through 180° in the plane of figure 1, makes device 40 installable indifferently on leaves opening to right or left .
  • transverse element 38 is depicted in a position of potential impact with a head 35 of bolt 34 itself, given that there is a gap between leaf 2 and leaf 3, while in figure 3 transverse element 38 is facing the corresponding elbow 36, leaf 2 being in the closed position, in substantial contact with leaf 3.
  • this handle 1 is easily comprehensible from what is described above, and does not require further explanation.
  • handle 1 described above allows the problems explained above to be effectively resolved by means of control device 40.
  • elongated member 42 and rebating member 44 are shaped and configured to cooperate in rebate exclusively in line with plane M, and therefore allow a very simple solution to the problem of consent for switching slider 20/bolt 34 from the open to the closed position in leaves 2 which are openable indifferently to right or left, following a movement applied in a direction transverse to casing 10.
  • the longitudinal position of the axis of pin 49 is fixed with respect to casing 10, given that this pin 49 is accommodated transversely inside housing 48; the latter is formed internally to interface member 46, which being symmetrical is carried by clamping member 15 in either of two operative positions, chosen on the basis of the side from which pin 49 has to protrude in order to be able to perform its function of consent member for the switching of bolt 34; interface member 46 is therefore rigidly connected to casing 10 itself. Therefore, since the longitudinal position assumed by clamping member 15 with respect to casing 10 is predetermined, given the rigid connection, the longitudinal positioning of rebating member 44 with respect to casing 10/leaf 2 is positively determined for both of the configurations in which interface member 46 can be coupled to clamping member 15.
  • member 44 and more particularly the relative interface member 46, can be installed in association with any member mounted fixed with respect to casing 10, and not necessarily in association with a clamping member 15. Besides, what is important is not the longitudinal location of the support member for interface member 46, but only that member 46 should be rigidly connected to casing 10.
